    Wednesday I’ll be working with four chefs… Oh, goodness.
    I hope I shine. It’s a special dinner, usually we’re closed on Wednesday, but it’s a “wine-pairing” dinner, for some charity. But it isn’t just Chef: he’s got three other “guest chefs” working it, too. And me, on dish, prep, and running. And by running, I mean, I hear something required, and I say “Heard.” and I run, and they have it in seconds, because I know where it is. Four chefs, though. That’s pretty intimidating. Got this. It’s what I do. But four chefs… the way I see it, from here, is it’s a lot of opportunity to show four chefs what a real dishwasher/prep guy can do. They’re professional chefs who have probably never seen what a kitchen backup guy can do. Not a real one like me. I don’t mean to brag, but it ain’t braggin’ if you can do it. They are incredible at what they do. They’re chefs. I work on the other end of the kitchen, and with them too, and I kinda got this down, too.
    It says “dishwasher” on my pay stub. Heh.
    There’s no end to how funny that is, so I won’t jump down that rabbit hole.

    Tripod just ran up 15 fire-escape stairs in less than 1 second. Really wanted in, I guess.

    I wish I had video of him doing that. So fast. I only have two legs, so I kind of envy the dude.

    Ever since the Bolsheviks invaded the Ukraine in 1919 the Russians have considered it ‘theirs’. They stole the breadbasket of Europe and, over the next 30ish years, starved millions of Ukrainians to death and ruined much of its soil – BUT it’s always been an important strategic point for Russia as it gives it a huge and relatively safe naval base and protects the Russian’s European southern flank.

    Russia wants its old Bloc back, if not for economic exploitation for a battleground to fight any war from the west there and keep it off of Russian soil, sparing it the destruction it had in WW I and WW II. The Ukraine also provides a forward basing for the Russians to attack NATO’s southern flank if need be and a base to work on its reacquisition of its old Bloc.

    The Ukraine has large natural gas deposits, huge agricultural potential and those vital strategic uses so Russia owning it again is a win-win. There’s also the fact that were the Ukraine to join NATO that would put NATO back on both sides of Sevastopol, completely blocking the Black Sea fleet.

    I believe that one of the reasons Russia ginned up that invasion of the Crimea was that the Ukraine was seriously looking at joining NATO and that would have effectively turned the old Bloc system Russia had used to counter NATO into a NATO Bloc to counter Russia AND would have not only completely surrounded Sevastopol with NATO but literally have put NATO at the Black Sea fleet’s front gate. Recently the Ukraine’s been looking at joining NATO again.

    Russia’s got a sweet deal here, it can gin up incidents to make the Ukraine make a step that would let Russia declare war and make everyone nervous. Europe’s fragmented so comes the question of could the NATO members risk intervention in any Russian/Ukrainian fight, especially with winter coming on and the Russians being able to turn off much of Europe’s gas supply.

    The US would have to decide if it were going to risk a war with a nuclear power, especially one with mobile ICBM units we still have a helluva time tracking. The US is politically split, tired of war after some 18 straight years of it and a lot of our stuff is well used while Russia’s is new and shiney. We’d also have a logistical trail that’s a nightmare, never mind trying to find a host country or two to base our forces and flyover rights to pursue any action. I do believe that many, including NATO members in the area, would be reluctant.

    So by pushing, poking and prodding the Ukraine Russia sets itself up for a number of potential reactions that lead to its goals. As Russia has a few million ethnic Russians already in the Ukraine, many of whom are more loyal to Russia than the Ukraine. That would include more than a few old Communists still there who’d eagerly form a new government were the Russians to pull a Afghanistan-1979 style coup. I’m 99.9% sure the Russians already have ‘opposition’ forces in place as they did in the Crimea, all they need is for the Ukrainian government to move one step over the Russ line and they push that big, red ‘RESET’ button. They hold most of the cards and it’s their game.

        I’m not gonna say I’m tired of the rest of the world demanding US money and protection and then sneering down at us for any or no reason at all, but let’s sit all of Europe’s wars, future, planned, unplanned, or otherwise, out.

        America has it’s own problems. We don’t need to babysit the world anymore.

        That’s something I can’t even guess on, far too many factors of which I have zero knowledge but you can bet State and DoD have response teams putting out game plans on this 24/7.
        One thing I do know is that this effects Europe directly and if the EU/NATO doesn’t respond as if they had a pair we shouldn’t waste American lives and treasure, I think we should follow Europe’s plan.

    I remember when I idolized Ronald Reagan, for a couple of decades as a daily Rush listener. (Both the Canadian band and Limbaugh.) Then 9/11 happened, then more terrorist acts, and I realized that Reagan is a Hollywood Liberal when he didn’t even know that what happened to our Marines in Beiruit was not an isolated, non-afiliated incident to any known entity. Besides the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, from the 19-teens. He’s way older than me, he should know this stuff, even better than me. We could have, as Barney Fife would say, nipped Islam in the bud under Reagan. But no. It was just an isolated incident, regarding nothing whatsoever.

    Reagan was adept at dealing with hecklers and critics, but he was, as are we all, seriously flawed, in not recognizing Islam as the next big threat, and ignoring it entirely.

    Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

    There isn’t, doesn’t exist, a musician I’ve followed as avidly as Bobby McFerrin, for 25 years.

    Bobby is the best musician I know. Owned all his albums, from the start. Watched him make a crowd sing the Ave Maria many times, in many places. It’s fun that his son is a really good beatboxer. Because of course he is.

    Bobby is like a god to me. Nobody does it better.

      I can’t wait to see what Bobby does next. Vocabularies was incredible, then SpiritYouAll was equally incredible. Whatever he does next will be more phenomenal than both of those albums. I own them all on CD. And digitally. And in my head.

      I’d shine Bobby McFerrin’s shoes. I can’t think of anyone in music that I respect more than this guy. Eric Clapton comes close but not above Bobby.
