      • Good morning, Sand.

It’s snowing like crazy. I was snow-blowing the alley at about 6:30. I’ll have to do it again in about an hour. I don’t mind, though. I do about six businesses, all the way up to their doors. They don’t pay me for it, but I’ve been doing them for ten years, and I’m not about to stop. For some reason, I just love using the snowblower and shoveling snow for these people. It’s my happy time. They treat me good, though, because they never have to shovel.

Bossman buys these shovels for his businesses that weigh like 40 pounds with no snow on them. Weird contraptions with multiple handles. “Ergonomic”, I think they call these overpriced pieces of garbage. I don’t use his shovels. I bring my own. Mine weighs like a pound or two, cost ten bucks at most, and I can throw some snow with that thing.

That snow this morning was SO heavy, too, because it started last night as rain.

You should see it coming down right now. When I see it, I smell a gas and oil mix. There might be something wrong with me, I’m told.

    • CA has about 30,000 people “working” for their state forest mgmt.

What the heck do they even do? Why do they get paid? I do dish and prep and make ten times less than they make. I made the croutons yesterday, and Chef said they were awesome. And the restaurant ain’t burned down yet.

30,000 people. All getting paid the big gov’t bucks. I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror if I worked for them, watching my state burn to the ground. I’d actually be ashamed to work for the State.

Unfairness is all I think when I see government workers, and what little to bad effect they have on a state. They can’t even remove snow well. They actually suck at it, compared to us plebes who do it far better than them for no money at all.

People wonder why I’m depressed. 30,000 forest workers, in only one state. SMH. They do nothing good. They sure do help themselves, as Credence Clearwater Revival would say.

      • The city workers look at what I do at 6 AM on my block, before they can trash it with tracked vehicles and auger-snoblowers that only get 1″ above the sidewalk, and they ask me if I’m crazy. Yep. Loco. I prefer to do a good job, and make it look good, and safe. Unlike them, who make four times what I make to do a s*&t job.
It’s like the Mexican family that has my boss by the balls, because they’re a package deal, and if one is fired because he or she is lazy, then they all leave. I worked with them for four days, on the line. The daughter asked me “but why?” when I said (I’m just a dishwasher, right?) that you have to plate it so it looks good, and it’s not hard, you just have to practice Culinary Artistry. “Why?”??? If I were the boss, I would fire this whole family. Our customers should, and did before these people were hired, want to take photographs of their plates. They might as well be CA State Gov’t workers. They don’t actually care, at all, about anything but a paycheck.
        THIRTY THOUSAND WORKERS.
And their restaurant is burning down, so to speak. That’s Government work. It makes me sick. I’m washing floor drains, baseboards, walls, and hood vents all the time. What are these 30k workers who each make six times my yearly income doing?
I’d say, “Maybe I need to go into Government work,” but again, like I said, I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror if I did. I’d be ashamed of myself. I’d rather make the croutons and scrub the mop-sink. Even for way less. We have the cleanest kitchen in town, and the best food, and it’s an open kitchen. Everyone can watch us all at work, doing what we do best, whether line, prep, dish, sautee. We’re all on stage. I love it. Just three people, busy as heck for 10 hours, with 4 hours prep in the morning. And we love it. We’ll cater for a 300-person wedding, we love this stuff. The customers prefer, and request, to be seated at the K-bar (kitchen bar), as opposed to the actual bar in the front. It’s a counter (that I epoxied), with bar-stools, 8 of them, where the customers can sit and watch us all work our butts off and make them really good food. They actually want to watch us in action, working. It’s like being on a reality show. Because we rock — all of us, at what we do respectively — and they love watching the show.
Behind ya, Sharp! Behind ya, Hot!, Under ya, sautees. It’s actually a show, and we’re just feeding these people. We understand professionalism. We’re not acting when we say “Behind ya”, though. When you open a lower fridge drawer or a fridge door, you say, loudly, “DOOR OPEN” or “DRAWER OPEN”. You don’t want your friend to break a knee or injure his head.
I taught a 14-year-old kid yesterday to always thank every customer they see leaving our restaurant. Always. Thank you, we appreciate your business. Even if they came in like () at two minutes till closing time. Always thank them as they leave. Even if you’re just a dishwasher. I wish I could teach him to work faster.

Czar, if you drop by this evening, any insights into what’s going on with Russia and the Ukraine?

Next Door is full of loonies who think that Putin is the evilest man on the face of the planet, and we need to go help Ukraine!!!

But I am tired of Europe, all of Europe, and tired of the expectation that America must keep babysitting them, so I think we need to just stay home this time.

Why is the government risking lives to retrieve the body of John Chau ? He made his choice neither body retrievers or the Sentinelese should have their lives endangered in an attempt, successful or not, to recover his body.

What is the government going to do? Trade Plasma TV’s for Chau’s body? Kill all the Sentinelese?

This is who the Sentinelese are. This is who they have been for thousands of years. This is who they have been allowed to be. If you don’t want them to kill you don’t invade their border.

John Chau chose to be the equivalent of Timothy Treadwell. Bears do bearing well. Sentinelese do Sentinelesing well.

    Leave them alone.

If they weren’t unwittingly isolationists I’d say pay them to guard our southern border.

Sometimes the ludicrousness of reality is just too much.

    SMH

    Have a good evening.

Reading more and perhaps saner minds are putting an end to this folly.

Best quote I’ve seen in weeks. I wish it were true for Western nations.

Sadly it’s if you want lots of free stuff that the natives don’t get, then invade their border.

I have to pay a thousand dollars for a tiny tube of tick-bite Lyme Disease ointment, and Senorita with ten kids gets to have her eleventh kid for free at the hospital I was born in. And then her kids get free stuff for life.

If we couldn’t laugh, we’d all go insane. — Jimmy Buffett.

We either laugh and continue working and paying and suffering, or we commit genocide. Those are pretty much the only two options right now. I’m cracking up laughing.

      • I laugh when I realize that nobody’s asking France, Netherlands, and the UK to go back to colonizing Africa, because those nations need to be more diverse.

It’s all you can do is laugh. And most people in those African nations will admit they were WAY better off under colonial rule. Far better.

Minnesota is screwed. They elected, via lots of fraud, Al Franken, right? I hope they enjoy their diversity and Somali colonists who remain Somali. Good for them. I hope they get more. They will, because their Somalis are actually having kids, while Minnesotans aren’t.

        You just have to laugh.

The irony of my own borders is not lost on me Wooly. Amazing times. Even biblical, that we live in. If history is written about this time, people will shake their heads at the fools who invited their own death in the name of tolerance.

I’ve been rereading Thoreau, what a complete ass the man was. So full of himself and contradictions and yet there are nuggets of truth in his arrogant musings.

I’ve told the AA people I don’t need a new book. I’ve got one already.

Thoreau is one of my dad’s favorites. I have now stopped reading him, what a jerk. I do understand my dad a little better for having delved into Thoreau. (My dad’s not a jerk and I can can see what he likes about Thoreau but *ack* just the same.)

Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith were polar opposites. One kept a whiskey bottle on his fridge to prove he had beaten his demon. The other wouldn’t even attend parties of alcohol was served.

One was a mean horrible person before he became sober and was even more ill tempered once he got sober. One was by all accounts that I remember reading a pretty decent guy.

Now after said all that I have no memory of who kept the whiskey, who was decent, who was the rat or who would not even be in the presence of alcohol.

AA kept me sober from age 43, last drink was Dec 11 1984….messed up Xmas parties that year but they put me to work in the kitchen carving turkeys for the club

34 years of no alcohol, and now I have cirrhosis of the liver and a malignant tumor…but I learned about One Day at a Time there.

results were the gift of a wonderful wife sober with me, and now two grown men from that union. No regrets.

They said expect a miracle….but they also said I had to work to keep it

Doesn’t work for everyone….Bill Wilson sorta explains why. Dr. Bob was weird, IMO

Just don’t give up to hopelessness and disbelief….I had to grow up from that place in 1984

I don’t miss any of it now.

I agree Joshua, I attended AA meetings for a year, it is, or the people in it, are what prompted me in the right direction, my great grandfather was friends with both Dr. Bob and Bill W. He died sober. My grandfather lived and died as a drunk. Sad.

Sobriety for all the bells and whistles around all the different paths to it is in the short of it a choice.

I remember all the old goats in AA always telling me that they spilled more on their shoes than I drank in my lifetime 🙂 ! I told them that they should not have been such sloppy drunks 😁.

Congratulations on the beautiful life that you fought for and won. I am so happy for you. As to the cirrhosis of the liver and a malignant tumor, there is nothing good I can say about that. Sometimes things just suck and that sucks.

Just don’t give up to hopelessness and disbelief

Agreed 100% . When my husband died by suicide leaving me with three young girls one of the worst things people would say to me is “I don’t know how you’re doing it, it would just be too much for me.”

                Really?

Well then go on about your life and I’ll go on about mine because I don’t have a choice but to do it and if I have to do it why she I do it in drudgery and remorse? That is not God’s gift to live in misery, Life’s gift is life itself. What a joy regardless of the horrors some of us must bear.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
