Perhaps you might be interested in sending Christmas cards to troops who are incarcerated at Ft. Leavenworth. If you decide to send cards, don’t put anything in the card as prisoners at Ft. Leavenworth are not allowed to receive any items other than a card or a letter…you can’t even put a letter or leaflet or a prayer card in the envelope along with a Christmas card, though you may write something on the card besides your name.

The following is a slightly edited (by me) email I received from Lt. Col. (Ret.) David Gurfein of United American Patriots….

Christmas is coming up fast – and as you can imagine, this is the toughest time of year for the guys at Fort Leavenworth. When you sign up to serve your Country, you understand that you’ll miss holidays, birthdays, and other special milestones with your family.

But 1LT Clint Lorance didn’t sign up to miss 20 Christmases with his family (see https://www.uap.org/clint-lorance for bio). And SGT Derrick Miller (bio being updated presently) certainly didn’t sign up to sit behind bars, while his little girls experience the magic of the season without him.

Will you send a special Christmas card to Clint and Derrick and Fort Leavenworth?

    Clint Lorance #93197
    1300 N. Warehouse Rd.
    Ft. Leavenworth, KS 66027

    Derrick Miller #89775
    1300 N Warehouse Rd.
    Fort Leavenworth, KS 66027

Nothing compares to receiving a good old-fashioned note in the mail. When I was deployed, we all looked forward to mail day. And there was no better feeling than when your name was called. Especially around the holidays.

So, I know Clint and Derrick will be thrilled to receive your cards – and to know that so many good patriots are fighting to bring them home. All it takes is a few minutes and a $0.50 stamp. Thank you for your support of Clint, Derrick and the other soldiers we represent.

    Semper fi,
David “Bull” Gurfein, LtCol, USMCR (Ret.)
    Chief Executive Officer
    United American Patriots (https://www.uap.org/)
    1800 Diagonal Road, Suite 600
    Alexandria, VA 22314

P.S. We support three Warriors who you may not be familiar with. Here are their addresses:

    John E. Hatley #87613
    1300 North Warehouse Road
    Fort Leavenworth, KS 66027

    Calvin R. Gibbs #89266
    1300 North Warehouse Road
    Fort Leavenworth, KS 66027

Just so we know a bit more here:
Clint Lorance: convicted on 2 counts of 2nd degree murder
Derrick Miller: convicted to premeditated murder
John E. Hatley: convicted of murder sentenced reduced from life to 40 years
Calvin Gibbs: convicted of murder, sentenced to life in prison
Robert Bakles: plead guilty to 16 counts of murder to avoid the death penalty if
      convicted, sentenced to life

To be fair these were killings of civilians or presumed enemy personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan BUT killings well outside of what rules of war we adhere to. The killings were not accidental, they were ordered and a jury found them guilty.

I’m not saying don’t send cards but realize these soldiers were convicted of murder, not shoplifting. I’d have felt a bit more comfortable had the LtCol at least alluded to to their crimes.

I’m sorry you were offended, Czar. It certainly wasn’t my intention to upset anyone.

Lt. Col Gurfein was writing to the organization supporters about two specific men, Lorance and Miller that we were familiar with. My apologies for not giving a rundown on each man mentioned in the email. Everyone who read the post, however, assuredly knows that none of them are at Leavenworth for petty thievery.

I hope that people, if they are so led, will send cards anyway by way of being a simple Christian act at that time of year we specifically celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, whose earthly mission was to express how sins are forgiven and hearts changed.

No, I wasn’t offended, just pointing out that all isn’t what it seems. There are those in the military who believe that we have to be as uncivilized as those we fight, that the rules of warfare don’t apply. These people frequently go out and make convenient representations of events trying to drag people over to their side.

I recognized the style of the email, many of us in military organizations received like ones when the reactionaries were defending the actions of the ‘Leavenworth 10’, a group some of those in the email werre a part of. Note the email doesn’t say what they are in for, a notable omission.
I’m not faulting you, those guys are primarily known by other military, they’re a stain on our honor, and that should be noted by those who pass these kinds of emails. Considering what crime they were found guilty of committing it will have to be God who forgives them as they broke one of His ten cardinal laws. The onus is on the LtCol for not being fully forthcoming.

I have a pic hanging on a wall of a guy in Colorado who travels with his dog, cat and a mouse. He makes spare cash by selling pics of him sitting with the dog, the cat sleeping on the dog and the mouse sleeping on the cat. I’d find a way to post it but he got smart and had it copyrighted.
In truth though, those of us who live with disparate animals know they get along…as long as they’re all well fed.

Mine are weird! The cat is scared to death of the birds, a nipple was involved. The dog wants to hump the cat, they are both spayed females. The cat only wants the dog’s water, hers isn’t good enough. Our little family is delightful, otherwise.

Well there are glitches. One of the cats likes to cuddle with the 40-pound chihuahua, the border collie likes to slime the gray cat, the b&w cat doesn’t want to come in if any dog’s visible and the dog that attacks hogs and water moccasins is scared ****less of the outside cat. They still manage to coexist though.

  7. via AoSHQ:

An elderly couple, who were both widowed, had been going out with each other for a long time. Urged on by their friends, they decided it was finally time to get married. Before the wedding, they went out to dinner and had a long conversation regarding how their marriage might work. They discussed finances, living arrangements and so on.

Finally, the old gentleman decided it was time to broach the subject of their physical relationship.

‘How do you feel about sex?’ he asked, rather tentatively.

‘I would like it infrequently’ she replied.

The old gentleman sat quietly for a moment, leaned over towards her and whispered – ‘Is that one word or two?’

Well it’s mating time in the South and we’ve picked up another pair of river otters in the lake. They should stick around, the lake offers lotsa food and lotsa beaver dens for housing.

Good part about this is that the otters will harass the hell outta the beavers and nutria, maybe even making life so miserable that the rodents will leave. Also, the otters will dine on young and, if the need be, even older beavers and nutria (hakuna matata and all that crap)…so it’s a win-win.

Here’s hoping the otters stay thru the summer and raise their family here. They won’t derodent the lake but will definitely make continued life here miserable for them. Downside is the geese will nest elsewhere.

    The Sunday Night Movie…

If you’ve never seen this film, it’s well worth it even on a small screen. For whatever reason (perhaps copyright issues), the channel proprietor chose to make the view smaller than usual; so you’ll have to enlarge it, or go to full screen.

Alfred Hitchcock’s “Notorious” (1946) – Starring Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman

A friend of mine who worked for Mr. Hitchcock said that in pre-production Hitch laid out every scene and camera angle exactly the way he wanted it. There was no deviation when filming began. That meant no spontaneity on the part of the actors, no dialogue change, no discussions with the cameraman, no alterations in the sets/decorations, nada. Hitchcock had everything planned out in his mind beforehand…obviously a very difficult thing to do…but that’s how he worked.

Some actors couldn’t work that way and were miserable working for Hitchcock…Paul Newman for one, since he liked a collaborative effort. Others were fine with it, like Cary Grant and James Stewart.
