This is the video of Susan Boyle at Britain’s Got Talent in 2009. It was the first time most of the world knew about her. I can still remember my husband saying the next morning that she came up in the news in every web site he opened. Understandably so.

It is easy to see why Susan Boyle was the talk of entertainment. She had real God given talent

Although Susan has made many recordings since this one was made, none have topped her performance that night. It is a good example of how a “talent” understood their gifts better than the professionals who surrounded and direct them.

Photos from an international panoramic photography contest.

This haunting shot of fog rising around a ghostly swathe of trees was taken by David Thompson in the southern swamps of the U.S. It was entered into the open landscape category

Albert Dros decided to capture colourful tulips carpeting fields in the Netherlands.

The overall winner of the 2018 amateur competition was Nathaniel Merz from South Korea. He said of his winning shot, seen above: ‘Ever since first exploring the mountains here in Korea I have fallen in love with the bonsai-like pine trees clinging to the rocky peaks. This particular tree was always one of my favourites for its tall, regal shape and the fact that it stood alone right on the edge of a cliff. While it is beautiful year round, it looks particularly beautiful covered in just the right amount of frost and snow like I was luckily able to capture [one] morning’

Kiddo had the 2nd developmental eval through his dr today. No add, adhd, odd, autism or its spectrum. She noted some sensory concerns and recommended OT. I won’t have the final report for a couple weeks.
But, on the aptitude testing, he is generally off the charts. She said it isnt a complete IQ test but at least for what she sees in the areas she could evaluate , he will NEED honors or AP classes in a few years.
She also said he is probably acting up at school bc he is bored and its something to do in addition to being immature.
So hes smart and cant process it all at once bc he is trying to, instead of tuning it out?
I have the IEP meeting with the public district next week and I can see if the evals sync up.
I think OT is a good idea. The district might recommend further testing but I dont know what.
After the meeting, Ill know if the school still wants him to leave. I hope the OT makes the difference.

I first heard of OT for children when my older grandson was little. I don’t remember exactly why he needed it, but he loved it and it helped him – that I remember!

PS: He just graduated from high school in June, on the honor roll most semesters! Now he’s in his first semester of college. Doing great!

Hang in there, it will get better.

Do you give your son chores? Responsibilities help develop maturity, self confidence, pride, and discipline. Start young, and build on it. I’m not kidding, this will help.

My husband always said a boy without work is trouble waiting to happen.

        I totally believe you.
I have a responsibility chart with premade magnets. I can change them up and do 7 things per week and he get a smiley face for each completed one. They can progress with difficulty. I started having him set his table also.Mostly make your bed, put toys away, do your homework. Also some for behavior. I think maybe i can get a small rake and have him do a few things like pull weeds.

Sounds great Gil. I’ll bet he loves seeing the smiley faces add up.

The therapists used charts a lot to help my autistic grandson gain control over actions and emotions as they began to work with him. I would have bet the farm that it would not work with him at that time and that young an age and I was very wrong.

I probably shouldn’t interject here, but what if you found something that he could do that made him think he was helping you? I am having trouble coming up with something, maybe setting the table for all of you (I know, that can be dangerous if you have breakable plates. LOL). Raking the yard is, but maybe something more connected to you.

    • My DD was incredibly bored in Kinder and 1rst grade and would get into trouble for talking. After her evals, they started giving her advanced work to keep her busy and things were fine after that. We put her in multi-age classes during 1rst thru 4th grades and she loved it. After 4th grade, she was in the gifted and talented classes and from then on she was happy as could be. I hope it’s a simple fix and that they can get creative and keep him on his toes. Super intelligent kids need to constantly be kept challenged. 😊

I spent most of this afternoon prepping veggies etc. for Thanksgiving. Got the brussels sprouts, all the veg for stuffing, the coleslaw mix (scallions separate) and the butternut squash casserole ingredients prepped and bagged and ready to go! Now I’m going to make turkey stock for gravy, and the mushroom ragu for the appetizers, and gather the ingredients for the corn casserole (easy). Pies tomorrow (derby and pumpkin). My daughter is bringing an apple pie.

I still have to make beds, vacuum and mop the kitchen and bathroom. I’m doing pretty well, I think.

    • In the last 12 years, I’ve spent Thanksgiving dinner, like I will this week, at my former and recently current bossman’s house, or his folks’ house, or his brother’s house about 10 times. One of the other years was at another benefactor’s house, where they had a daughter who was recently Vegan. They hadn’t yet got the art of Vegan cooking down pat yet. It was only memorable because of the people, who I am deeply indebted to.

Our restaurant, which specializes in beef and burgers and more beef, makes some incredible vegan burgers of several varieties including a quinoa burger. I eat them. They’re wonderful. And I’m not even Vegan. I’d rather eat the brined, burnt, ground muscle tissue of an animal, but I went along for the ride that year, because they’re my friends.

Soak your turkey in brine for a couple of days before you cook it. You’ll need a good five-gallon bucket. Never mind basting it. Brine it. Then rub it with spices. Bake it, don’t deep-fry it. That’s dangerous. Light some good mortar fireworks instead, it’s safer, while your turkey cooks in the oven.

I want to say Don’t Go To A Vegan Thanksgiving Dinner, but I know what good vegan food is, so if you do, go to one where people really know how to cook.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In case you can’t read the explanation:

“This blue penguin adult was rescued after being found with a significant head wound and suffering from severe exhaustion due to plastic netting entanglement. After treatment and recovery, it was successfully released 8 days later in its original habitat. It was observed for an hour post-release, and swam strongly out to sea, once past the initial breaking waves. Penguins generally appear wobbly on land, but are in their element under water.

“Ocean conditions are often rough along New Zealand’s coast, with this blue penguin being used to such conditions. Blue penguins are the smallest penguin species in the world, hence the tiny size. The reason this individual was not released near a group of penguins, is that blue penguins are largely solitary at sea, as well as being nocturnal on land.”

  17. My brother could program this computer, the Commodore 64.

If he was alive and heard what they are still doing with it, he’d poop rabbit pellets.

This is a 25 minute song, made with one chip, called the SID chip, on the C=64. My bro was more into the graphics aspect of programming this beast, but he would, if he were alive, if he heard this track, be more into the audio side of the platform. The chip had four FM channels, no stereo, and one of those four channels was White Noise only (good for snares and hi-hats and rides), but you could produce chords on one channel by playing sequences of notes at 128th increment intervals. The SID chip was a work of genius, and the people who still use it, and push it’s limits, are nuts. And I love ’em for that.

Look up Rob Hubbard, and what he did to this chip. The makers of what I posted have far surpassed Rob Hubbard. And he would admit it.

  18. I just figured out that I can open a YouTube video and Pianissmo at the same time.

I can jam to anything on a piano. Besides washing dishes, it’s what I do.

“Hand me that piano!” — George Carlin

And I just realized I can open Audacity in a third window and record me doing that, and that I can get a Soundcloud™ account and show you people what I can do with the ebonies and ivories.

    I will do that soon.

Like I said before, Bobby McFerrin has been my mentor for 25 years.

And I play public pianos for fun and no financial profit. Just because it’s a freakin’ piano!

How could I not play it? Pianos are like a squirrel to a dog for me. Can’t not go play them.

It’s a better voice than my own. And I would jam with Bobby in a second.
