Ahhhhh…decided to replace my aging 10″ and 12″ skillets, their time had come. I did some research and replaced the 12″ pan with a Cuisinart non-stick with a cover and, with some trepidation, the two 10″ with Member’s Mark non-stick.
Well I’m happy, both are heavy enough to stun a hog and both easily passed the ‘baked on cheese’ test, I’m sure they’ll all outlast me.
We’ll get a good test on Thanksgiving but I’m sure they’re going to work. Happiness is a new fry pan.

I have some older bigger pans, and some 6″ or 8″ pans, but the one that I use the most is a little 3″ or 4″ pan that I can cook one egg in and it doesn’t run all over the place. Problem is, I don’t think I could stun a hog with it.

They don’t seem to make any of them last like the old stuff. My last ones lasted over 25 years and since then it seems I’m lucky to get 3 years out of them. I actually still have one pot from the set that lasted over 25 years that is still usable, it though has only always been used as a pasta pot.

I’ve just bought a new kitchen aid set I found at an outlet store for about half price.

I finally gave in and bought a new 12″ saute pan with glass lid in September. Scanpan (never heard of it). About croaked at the price–$280, on sale for $220. Fortunately DH wasn’t shopping with me. I let him use it a couple of times before I told him how much it cost. By then he liked it so much he didn’t mind. Now I need to replace the 10″ skillet. What to do, what to do? Same brand will probably be $200.

I tried restaurant-grade but found it’s mostly just durable, designed to do for 12 hours a day what I do for 2 – at max. I want heavy and non-stick as I use a lot of things that tend to get sticky at heat.
Czarina just sits back and eats, she’s a survival cook while I and two of my sons are frustrated eaterie owners. Both of them are one-offs and putting any two of us in the kitchen at the same time becomes a show of its own – the replay of our jointly conspiring on a gumbo is still a family story.

Here’s the thing, if you need a 10″ lid most all 10″ (or 12″ for that hatter) pans have lids that interface. I have an old 10″ lid from a long gone granite ware porcelain pot that fits all of my 10″ pots and pans. Stella, I agree with your assessment of Minnesota in the Quick Hits. I spent some time up in northern Minnesota many years ago, in Warroad, on the Lake of the Woods. Such a beautiful place.

Southerners are known for our hospitality and friendliness. I say that the Minnesota folks may surpass us. It’s a shame what has happened to that state.

The people I met there, and dealt with in my work, and later in Wisconsin, were some of the hardest working people I’ve dealt with. They all seemed to enjoy their work, take pride in it, and not a hint of resentment or disinterest ever crept in.

I’m not sure I’d even want to visit there now.

I used to love to read books by a Minnesota author, William Kent Krueger. As his books became best sellers, he inserted his liberal beliefs in more and more. The final straw was when the hero, once a sheriff and later a PI, always in the books involved in dangerous situations, resolved never to carry a gun again. So, in one of the subsequent books he is throwing rocks at the bad guy. Would they guy have been less dead from a rock? would it have been more justified?

The author has a fantastic ability to put you in a scene, to make the landscape almost a character in the book. I haven’t bothered to buy the latest book, not out of political ire, just there is only so much ridiculous posturing you can stand.

I fall into the trap of thinking about the rough and tough people who settled such places, and wondering how in the world their descendants have lost their roots. But then, if you examine the history of each of our states, most of them were settled by some salty individuals.

Judicial Watch Legal Team Back in South Florida Monitoring Election Recount
    November 13, 2018

Nearly a decade after conducting a thorough Florida recount in a heated presidential contest, Judicial Watch is back in Broward and Palm Beach counties monitoring the midterm election fiasco. A legal and investigative team is closely watching the machine recount, which could be followed by a manual recount that could drag the spectacle out into the weekend. Florida law requires a machine recount when the vote margin in a race is less than 0.5 % and that occurred in three key statewide races—for U.S. Senate, governor and agriculture secretary. If results from the machine recount show a 0.25% margin or less, a hand recount will ensue for undervotes and overvotes. An undervote occurs when no candidate is marked in a race. An overvote marks more than one candidate on the same ballot in the same race.

Congrats! I don’t think you can go back to Windows 7. I loved it and hated to give it up when I got a new laptop that came with 10. Microsoft stops supporting any operating system more than 2 numbers back from the current iteration. 10 is significantly different from 7 and I still like 7 much better, but have adapted to 10 ok and I don’t remember it being that difficult. Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
