Good morning, sand! Love trees!
We had a huge Ficus shade tree–tall with a wide trunk and lengthy limbs–in our West Los Angeles front yard. The landlady never had it trimmed. One night there were terrible winds like they’re having there right now fanning the fires. The beautiful fully-leafed limbs began to bounce around like they were made of rubber…then, crrraaaccckkkk! It split down the middle, causing those limbs to fall over our side fence onto a highway, blocking one lane. It had to be cut down entirely. Proper maintenance is a key to so much in life.

I don’t know when this procedure was put in place to do nothing in the forests, but I remember discussions about it and they said that this VERY thing was going to happen. I was there in the 70’s and 80’s, until ’95. They have always had fires in Cal. But, they now affect more people and are so much harder to get under control. This didn’t have to happen.

Last year Governor Brown said that these type of fires are the “new normal” for the state. Obviously that means he’s not truly interested in solving the problem. Here’s a great article which covers just what and why all this has become the “new normal.”

I lived there in the 60’s. The Santa Ana winds come every year! There were also fires every year. There are a LOT more people there now than there was then. I would not live there ever again. Earthquakes, mudslides, fires, high taxes and illegals, Jeesh!

Story of My Life – The Piano Guys

Well, that brought tears.
I mean, I love outdoor pianos. And lightning. I’m sure that’s all it was. 😉
Incredible video and music.

Wooly, after thinking about your possibly asking your work friend for a date, it came to me that perhaps she would appreciate hearing you play the piano. Go for a walk where there’s an outdoor piano, then just sit down and give her a song as a gift. It’s something simple, but those are often the things which bring people happily together. Afterwards buy her an ice cream cone.

That’s the plan. I know where four pianos are within blocks. Five if you count mine in my apartment. Mine sounds best, but my apartment is reprehensible right now. Ice cream is out, as it’s sub-freezing right now, but probably a burger and a beer, where I know the chef and the staff.
I don’t actually work with her. I just did the other day for a few hours, and we clicked. I had just walked in to say hi to the kitchen manager, met her, saw how hard and Joyfully they were working, and grabbed an apron and got to work helping them. It’s what I do.
They’d have been there until midnight if I hadn’t shown up. I didn’t have anything better to do. Give me a scrubbie, and all those oven racks. I got this.
This woman just started there, and talks just enough smack to me that it’s perfect.

At the risk of sounding mean, I’m getting tired of hearing about all these poor celebrities affected by the wildfires. It’s just them, and a few thousand other normal people who don’t have the media to weep on their behalf. 😒

It’s a way to sell papers or of getting clicks. Shallowness completely devoid of empathy.
After the Thousand Oaks bar murders, the actor Ashton Kutcher mentioned that he had his birthday party there. Making it all about yourself is totally show biz.

I love hearing about all those celebrities affected by the wildfires.
It warms my heart. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of people.
I hope these wildfires make them question their habitual use of children, and what they use them for. I doubt they will, though. They’ll just move to another state and bring their immense, monolithic evil there.
I don’t think these fires are tragedy. I think they are divine retribution. I bet many former child actors would agree, and are smiling right now, because they’ve waited for this all their lives.

Wooly, examine your own conscience. Do you intend to become what the left is, hatred defining you? Unless you have proof to paint all these celebrities with the same broad brush you are coming dangerously close to committing the sin of calumny.
I believe in truth and plenty of it. I believe in confronting evil. I also believe in charity in our actions, and yes, I fall way short on that all the time. It’s one of the main reason my seat in the confessional never gets cooled off.
I watched a video yesterday, a wonderful black man who had converted to Catholicism. He has a website, and I stumbled across one of his videos on a topic I don’t really care a lot about, but for some reason I sat through it.
He talked about all the years he was a self proclaimed agnostic, but it sure sounded like he was athiest. And what really got me, the reason I must have waited out the video was at one point he stated why it took him so long to convert to Christianity. He met no martyrs for the faith. He met no one who interacted with him in charitable conviction.

You are painting with a broad brush here, as Menagerie has pretty clearly stated below. And as I have mentioned before, i have watched people’s live get ruined because someone accused them of child abuse or molestation, without any evidence. It really irritates me when people have no evidence and make those allegations. If you had had to watch the suffering someone who is wrongly accused of harming a child has to go through, with their family, you would think differently about it.
The point that I was trying to make in my comment was this is not about the celebrities. This is about the ordinary, everyday people who have been affected by this, who don’t even register as a blip on the media radar, who are now forced to figure out, “now what? Now that I have lost everything I have worked so hard to earn and keep, what do I do now?’
I could care less about the celebrities. Money isn’t an issue for them. It’s sure as heck an issue, though, for those regular folks who work 40 hours a week for every penny they earn and who are now trying to figure out how to start over. I’m sure most of them have insurance. I’m also sure that when it gets right down to brass tacks, insurance money never goes as far as it needs to when you’re trying to rebuild your whole life.

Holy cow. Read down the comments under this picture on twitter. Chelsea Clinton has a blue check by her name and says something totally unbelievable.

I saw it too, and I don’t think it’s real. No way. I mean, I believe it might be factual and true, but I don’t think that’s actually a Chelsea tweet, nor are the accompanying screenshots real, either. CNN would never report that Michelle has been diagnosed with testicular cancer. Nope. Not ever. I call fake news on that whole entire tweet. Entire Photoshop, that tweet. Has to be.

I wondered what that was all about. There is a blue check, but I guess it can be hacked.

The image on that “tweet” isn’t a tweet. It’s an image, of a tweet. JPG, I think.
It’s a picture.
I still believe Michelle might once have been Michael. But I don’t believe that is an actual Chelsea tweet, nor actual images from news orgs. The fact that someone went through the trouble of photoshopping all of that, just to post it on a Sean Spicier account makes it awesome, though. So ironic, in so many ways.

Noticed how quiet the Usual Rat Suspects were during the months running up to the election? Not a peep, didn’t want to get anywhere near their deeply organized plans to steal seats in Congress….silent as death. Watch them in the runup to 2020, this theft is the warmup, a test run for The Big One and God help us if they win as Puerto Rico and DC will be brought in as states, effectively sealing conservative fate.
I’m also betting they’ll make that FDR move to bump the SCOTUS up to 12 members and they’ll be appointing the new 3. Even though they’ll seal the Court’s fate by being able to appoint justices to the original 9 seats as they become empty but they’ll have a 3 judge buffer just in case.
I don’t think, when they get the bodies in place, that they’ll hesitate to call a Constitutional convention. Why bother piecemeal and potentially reversible deconstruction of the Constitution when you can call a convention and dismantle it wholesale?

Those last two pictures look exactly like the nature trail that follows along the creek in my little town. I love to go walking there. There is a marsh area with a long wooden bridge across. Usually you see turtles sunning themselves on fallen trees, and just there, in the marsh, i sometimes get to see a hawk swoop by. Once he was perched on a limb, looking for an opportunity.
Not too long ago I took pictures of some teensy mushrooms growing by that path. They were not even a half in in diameter, but a little taller than most mushrooms.

When I was a kid there was a pond behind the High School. One day I saw a painted turtle sunning itself on a log in the water, close enough that I thought I could catch it. So I stood on a rock near the edge of the water and started to reach — and then the rock I was standing on started moving. It wasn’t a rock, but a huge snapping turtle!

Although I don’t really dig his art, and wouldn’t hang anything by him in my domicile, the movie about Pollock was incredible, and well-done. The movie is called “Pollock”, so you know.
What a tragic life. Postmodenism can, and tends to, do that to a person. The film did a good job of explaining that, without even dissing him or his fans or even postmodernism. Just that tragedy is the natural result of that culture. If nothing means anything, then tragedy will be the result. Whether painting, writing, or music. The end is always the same when you delete meaning and beauty from the medium.

I wish Jackson Pollock and John Cage could have met and talked with Tolkein and Lewis.
All at the same time, over a few pints.
John Cage tried to make random music. He invented machines to make pianos play absolutely random music, with no human hand behind it. It sounded like garbage. Naturally. He was an atheist at the time, but his experiments changed his mind. Why is the universe beautiful? I mean, if it’s all random, when we look up into the sky with a telescope it should look like static on an empty TV station. That’s what Cage’s “random” music sounded like.
But the night sky doesn’t. It all still looks beautiful, and makes sense, even aesthetically.
Cage became the foremost mycologist in the world, after that phase. He said, paraphrasing, that if you applied what I believed at the time to mushrooms and eating them, you’d be dead in a week. You cannot apply randomness to identifying and eating mushrooms.
Beauty and truth and creativity is what all of those people had in common, except Pollock, who disdained all of those things, and crashed his car into a tree, to his demise.
I wonder what happened to Calder, who made all those stupid, ugly Postmodern sculptures in all of our cities? I wonder if he met a similar end. Wouldn’t doubt it.
Happened to Jim Morrison. John Lennon. They both loved making nonsense, intentionally, too, and passing it off as goodness. Whoa, man. Trippy, dude.

22.Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all form of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings,” substituting shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.
The list is in the Congressional Record. They did it. Took them 100 years.

Good grief. He sure was right about the sculptures.
Years ago when my middle son was in high school the first year, before he could drive, we used to go walk downtown around the river before I took him to school. We occasionally walked around the big museum, and all the outdoor sculptures. There are a lot in downtown Chattanooga, down around the river walk.
He used to get all worked up and say that he wanted my husband to start taking the scrap metal cast offs at the shipyard and weld them together in big nonsense pieces. My son was going to adjust his dad’s name to something with a more European pronunciation and he (son) was going to go sell all the “art” and we’d all be rich. He even actually talked to my husband about doing some sculptures which he was going to market in the “hip” shows to get a start.
Guess who now makes a very, very good living in sales? But alas, not selling his dad’s sculpture. That plan got nixed. In the time it took to pop a top and drink a beer, if I remember right. I kinda think the kid could have pulled it off.

That was art. Looney tour group was oohing and aching. My Italian Irish pal mindlessly and not quietly said “What the F* is this sh*t” I had to drag him out of there, but I was laughing so hard because his response was just a spontaneous reaction.

A friend of mine likes to speak of OMMD – Origin, Meaning, Morality, and Destiny.
For a Christian, our Origin is God. Meaning and Morality revolve around loving Him and each other, and a person’s Destiny is either an eternity with Him, or not.
For an atheist, Origin is just random chance; there is no Meaning or Morality, and our Destiny is to decompose.
My view is that if there is no God, then we are utterly insignificant in the universe. If a meteor destroyed the entire planet and all living creatures, the universe would be completely uncaring. If such an occurrence is utterly insignificant, how much more insignificant are the acts of individuals, whether “good” (by whose definition in this scenario?) or “evil”.

Kansas made a song about that. Dust in the Wind. We all know that one. The song is absolutely true if there is no God. Within a couple of years, 3/4 of the band became Christian, and formed a band called A.D. The whole album, Leftoverture, predicted that they would. Listen to the song “The Wall” from the same album, about jumping over a wall, discovering how wonderful it is, and wanting everyone to jump over with them.

Did you ever see the Dr. Who episode with Vincent Van Gogh? I never watched the show but somehow saw the clip of Dr. Who taking Vincent to the Musée d’Orsay to see his paintings.
If ever there was a scene with every single actor performing absolutely perfectly, this was it. I had to go find the episode and watch it. It was awesome. I bet I watched that clip a dozen times.

Today’s painting is a very vibrant autumn painting by Maxfield Parrish. In reading about him, some of his paintings basically are self destructing because of the layers of different paints, varnishes etc, he used to get the vibrant, transluscent colors he is famous for.

https://theoldschoolpatriot.com/combatting-socialism/
This struck me:
“. . . the fundamental premise of socialism is that it purports to believe it can — meaning government can — “guarantee your happiness.” That you, the individual, are incapable of pursuing that on your own volition. And, those who are capable of doing so are demonized, disparaged, and denigrated on the altar of sacrifice to the gods of collectivism.”

I was reading this article and again it just points out how ignorant teachers have become.
This statement is a glaring example of their ignorance.
“Maybe,” she said, “people are not as concerned about the future of public education as we might have thought they were. Maybe it hasn’t hit them in their homes yet.”
People are concerned about public education and all of us would like it to succeed, but it isn’t. Kids are being indoctrinated while public school is failing them when it comes to reading, writing, math, those things school is supposed to be doing. This falls on the shoulders of teachers, whether they want to admit the blame or not. It’s not because they have to teach to a test as they claim, it’s not because they aren’t valued with “professional salaries” as they claim. For years more and more money has been thrown at schools and yet year after year kids are learning less.
There are things that hinder teachers such as students being able to talk to them however they want without being expelled. Students being disruptive in class hindering other students from learning, yet they’re not permanently removed from the classroom. They’re not removed because the school doesn’t want to lose the money that one child brings in. Then there are all the illegal students who don’t speak English. Schools having fewer actual teachers in the classroom because they like to get extra money from the federal government for having crazy positions like homeless liaisons, even when they don’t have one homeless child in the entire district.
Yet, you will never hear teachers who are screaming for more money mention any of this because their unions and administrators tell them speaking of that will hurt their cause.
To quote a very nice lady who loved her job and who was able to manage to teach her students math, which was the purpose of her job said a few weeks ago, “These progressive teachers, which are the majority, took a once highly respected profession and turned it into a profession that people shun as much as prostitution while acting like prostitutes with a gun to your head. Give me what I want or I will harm your children, but once I get what I want I’m going to continue turning your children into good little socialists with no morals.”

Check out this article from a school system about an hour away from me. The administrator clearly considers kids possessions of the public school system, there to rake in money from the government.
http://clevelandbanner.com/stories/dr-james-jones-home-schooling-damaging-polk-county-system,89595?fbclid=IwAR0hG-wbmkZfqkYXdb5ukTWgoZjBOZWXIkpbqjxzMSN8ss6aWY98spZtr1k&comment_result=pending#comments-post
“We lost 70 students (which equates to more than $500,000 in state funding),” Jones said.
Money quote from near the end of the article.
“Over the past five years, there have been new standards, tests and evaluations, which have been tough on our teachers and our school system, ” said Jones. “And, home schooling is causing the bottom to fall out of public education. There is a whole new subculture regarding home school, and no one hates it more than me.”

This warms my heart just like the fires in SoCal do.
I hope they lose more students next year to home and parochial schooling.
I hope their schools don’t exist in five years.
They can cry me a river, and I will drink their tears.

They all consider them possessions for them to mold along with the dollar signs they see on each kid.
They cry and whine all the time about home school, they don’t have testing, oversight, blah…blah… When you point out facts to them that when it comes to ACT/SAT scores home school tests home schooled kids rank higher than most public schooled kids then they resort to all the kids being abused who are home schooled. They take the very small number of those cases and ignore all the numerous cases of abuse including sexual abuse that takes place on a daily basis almost in public schools.
They also hate online public schools, that has been one of their rallying cries around here, especially EPIC, because their test scores are beating theirs and their teachers make way more than brick and mortar public school teachers. Yet, the cost to taxpayers is a fraction of brick and mortar public schools.

Of the home school horror stories I know, the common denominator is the lack of a father. Those would have been public school horror stories, too.

Bad parents come from all stripes, but the Public school system is getting concerned due to the number of families who are removing their children. So as progressives always do they will never let a tragedy go to waste and will make it sound like home school parents abusing their children is an epidemic and there isn’t any oversight.

Sort of on this topic. Back during the teacher strike that offended them when you called it a strike, a man who owns a feed store on his farm made a big post about supporting teachers and if you didn’t then he didn’t want your business. That is the short version of what he wrote on his business FB page, it would have been one thing if he did it on his personal page, but nope because his wife was a teacher he had to shove it down his customers’ throats.
He had been doing really well, so well that he bought some property right outside of town and started breaking ground on a new building. I informed him at the time that we had been a customer for a few years and he could see just how much we had spent with him every month. How we actually drove out of our way to buy feed and hay from him although we had feed stores closer to us who were cheaper than he is, but we did it because we like to support the little guy. I never knew his wife was a teacher and it wouldn’t have mattered, we still would have continued buying feed from him. However, when you post a picture of your wife not doing her job while she is striking so the government will dig into my pocket to give her money and then take it a step farther and say I must think and do as you say or take my business elsewhere, I will oblige you.
He wrote me back a message that said he guessed I was the type of person who didn’t agree with someone’s opinion then I would punish them. He went on about his poor wife and how horrible people like me were and finished with he didn’t need or want my business anyway.
I never replied back and honestly had forgotten all about him, we did what we said and started doing business elsewhere. He posted under his personal page today on a state political group that thanks to Republicans who built a protest movement to put him out of business because of his wife’s profession, his new business was put on an indefinite hold because he had lost so much business he no longer had the finances to build it and was barely keeping his head above water to keep his farm up. His heart is heavy that even neighbors, friends and family have stopped doing business with him. He claimed the movement started on that page, which is a lie, there was never even anything mentioned about him in particular on that page. There were a lot of people who said they were going to stop doing business with businesses that publicly supported the teachers’ strike, but his was never one of those mentioned. They were all mainly businesses in OKC.
I looked him up and sure enough him and his wife are both registered democrats, so of course it’s easier to blame others then except blame for what they did. Nobody would have ever known his wife was a teacher, nobody would have ever known he supported the strike, and nobody would have ever known he didn’t want their business if they didn’t agree with him if he had not taken to social media to tell them so.
I guess others were like me and obliged him in what he told us to do and now he’s finding out that most of his customers are rural folks who tend to be conservative.

Good that his business is suffering. People like him are such idiots. Never a second of introspection always blaming others and pointing fingers.

He could apologize to his customers and ask them to forgive him for telling them to take a hike and admit he made a mistake in not realizing everyone has a right to their opinion and it was a hot button issue that should have been kept separate from his business. He would win back some of his customers, but you don’t win back customers by digging the hole deeper.

His wife will never let him do that. But I’m sure her salary is quite hefty not to mention all the perks she gets. Maybe she can buy him a golden shovel 🙂 !

Probably so, but I’m sure she’s seeing that just her paycheck doesn’t buy as many goodies as her salary plus what they were bringing in. He was doing so well they sold off all their livestock because it was an easier life.

There is a man we do business with, he’s a big time democrat, I’m sure he knows where we stand personally if he’s done any digging at all, but we don’t mix politics with business and his money spends just as good as anyone else. To give him credit, he has his own business and he leaves politics out of it.
Now if he was one of those democrats that acted ignorant then we would have no problem not doing business with him.

I love it but I cannot stand the Amplified Bible. It assumes that most people are idiots, and need simple s*&t explained to them, very very simply.
This might be true, but I don’t like assuming this about most people, even though it’s probably true.

Unfortunately there are too many loonies these days.
I am often amazed at people who say they’re conservative Christians in one breath and argue for abortion in the next. I think those who get to me the most are the ones who say they would have a horrible life if they were born to someone who didn’t want them, so it’s more humane to make it where they won’t suffer. I can’t wrap my head around that kind of crazy.

Ugh… I’m too tired but there is an article or 20 about it on the interwbes. Madness.

Something that always chaps my behind is when a woman gets into a public argument with a man over abortion being constitutional because SCOTUS says so and gets schooled on the Constitution and then resorts to using the Bible to make her argument, because we are not to judge, so Christians shouldn’t be passing judgment on abortion and gets schooled again on the Bible and then resorts to a man who can’t carry a child shouldn’t be telling women what they can do with their body or giving them a life sentence if carrying a baby will kill her. Then claims she’s conservative and a Christian who is pro-life.
I guess science is not a strong suit as well, being as how it takes two to make a baby, even in a lab.
Not to mention men have a right to object to state sanctioned murder of babies.

The real reason black liberals hate Trump

I am sitting here getting ready to freak out. There has been a plane or planes flying low over us. This must be at least the 6th one. It is dark here. They are not little planes, either. I am not too terribly far from a small airport, but rarely hear planes at night. And, never this low.

About three months ago, after midnight and after getting out of work, I had three quadrotor drones in a perfect triangle at the corner of my parking lot, with their lights flashing just as they should be, and another actual WINGED drone flying circles around my whole block. I still have the video. I was so freaked out I went in and got my phone and videoed the whole thing, while talking about it. The video came out too shaky.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

I asked her for a hug today and was soundly rebuffed. She’s gruff like that. We’ll try again tomorrow. This is like trying to befriend a feral Rottweiller. Still I extracted her hood-vent filters, all seven of them, over the flat and the fryers. That’s fun. Trying not to fall onto the flat, or into the fryers, while taking these steel filters out, way over your head.
I know about way over your head. So, no I didn’t ask her out. I just did s*&t for her, like I do, that nobody else in the place could do, or had a clue about how.
