We’re having a white Monday. It was pretty when I woke up, but it can go away now. I have one grandbaby that is so excited and because PaPa is still a kid at heart he had him out building little snowmen everywhere. The other one is not too impressed, she says it’s cold.

‘Camp’ Fire Day 4 -11 Nov ’18

Forgot about the role of the uninsulated wires on hi-tension lines, though I’ve mentioned them in other contexts. That’s one of the reasons trees are cut back so far on the powerline routes as if the wind blows a branch/tree onto a line you can get a short that causes a fire. Also, the lines are usually spaced so that winds setting up vibrations in the wires doesn’t bring them too close together and cause an arc.
But there’s still the issue of ground litter, the less litter the less fuel there is for a fire to get started. If you do burns you’ll see that grass fires don’t move quickly without a lot of fuel and wind, especially ones in wooded areas that suppress the winds, but if you have lots of fuel the fire can quickly get up into the trees and then it’s a different game. If you clean that forest floor regularly you limit trash buildup and get less of a potential for fire.
I ain’t saying this is THE whole cause but the number of California fires right close to heavily populated areas is curious. There’s also the question of why, in an area that prone to disastrous fires, there isn’t a better fire watch program that will catch them earlier. Remember the days when there were rangers in fire towers keeping watch? I see lots of these towers abandoned and rotting. If I were California I’d be setting up a flight of state-owned tankers ready to fly in an hour’s notice and have an effective fire watch.

These disasters are almost as though they’re planned…just like WDC Dems are planning the defeat of our nation and all the gains we’ve made in the last two years.

To me they’re just too coincidental. This one was in just the right place at just the right weather conditions to foster its spread. Plus we have an easily blamed cause, PG&E.
Those western environmental groups that used to burn down houses, lodges and other developments built in forested areas haven’t been mentioned in years. I don’t think they just slid into retirement overnight. What about those al Qaeda ‘how to’ lists that were published after 911 that told the faithful ones of the good ways to attack the Great Satan was to start forest fires.
Oh well, time to go back and polish up my tin foil hat…

Weather report from up here is downright nasty. We went from fall to winter in one fell swoop; went to bed Saturday night with a yard full of green grass and awoke Sunday morning with 6″ of snow on the ground. It was (and still is) 34 degrees and the whole mess is just sloppy. Drove to church yesterday (slowly) on mostly unplowed roads with people fishtailing and doing 360s everywhere. I can’t believe the idiots who think they can be in a hurry in conditions like this. We lucked out on the way home and were a hundred feet behind a pair of snowplows clearing the way for us. And stayed home once we got here. Now there is just major dripping going on. If the temps suddenly plummet there will be nasty frozen ruts everywhere which graders and plows can’t fix without tearing up the roads. The best timing is a good hard freeze before any snow is on the ground, then snowfall on top of hard frozen ground. Fingers are crossed that that is still achievable. Morning all!

Problems with the septic system I can’t deal with until Czarina gets home so I need to pump off into the woods and downhill. It’s windy, it’s raining, if it were colder this would be rain. I’m watching the pump and my headlamp’s showing yellow and green eyes watching me from the woods and bushes. I hear plaintive mewing and there’s our sodden and cold black and white cat standing on the access hatch wanting me to pick his miserable self up and carry him in. Grey cat is on the porch complaining loudly about my choice of weather, and she comes in two. Gotta take a break and dry them off – as they complain about being dried off.
Now all I have to do is get the dog to come in and dry her off. So much for Monday night.

Good morning, Nyet! The challenge of American life right now is to maintain stability in the face of the monstrous negativity going on daily. So, after I’ve scarfed down that lovely plate of pancakes/fruit, scrambled eggs and bacon, I’m heading to a place where the people are fighting back, where their positive thinking is coupled with action…Budapest….
Upon arrival I’m stopping off at the Budapest Parliament, located on the Pest side with the Danube floating by in front of it…
The Aria Hotel is where I’m domiciled for a few days. They have a huge buffet breakfast which I’ll take full advantage, plus bringing along a baggie to shove a few items into for later…eating out here is beautiful, if not a tad cold this time of year…
Then I’ll be off to the Lake Balaton region just to breathe in the country air…
Have a great trip yourself!

Apropos of nothin’. Dude on Steam asked me the other day if I like Trump. And nobody in gaming or the entire tech industry likes Trump, so it was a loaded question, because I had just mentioned that I lean slightly to the right of center.
I said “Who cares?” If I hated him or loved him or his policies or style? What the heck am I going to do about it? Poop on a cop car, throw a brick through a bank window, or shoot up a bar? It it going to change who’s POTUS? No. Whether you like or don’t like Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush1, Clinton, Bush43, Obama, or Trump DOES NOT MATTER, BECAUSE YOU CANNOT CHANGE IT.
You can, on the other hand, be friends with your friends. No matter how they voted, or what they did with that other man in the airport bathroom that one time. They’re your friends. Don’t argue politics with them. They’re your friends. Love them.
I voted yes on Prop 1 in MI, legalizing pot to a great degree. It passed, and I’m happy for my friends. I don’t smoke it, hardly at all. It’s not an urge or a hobby for me. Used to be. Almost every hard-working person I know does smoke it, though. And I’m happy for the cops who don’t have to risk their lives on little MJ busts anymore and can concentrate on risking their lives on opiates and meth busts instead. My vote was a pragmatic decision, not an emotional one.
Most of my friends know that I voted yes on 1, no on the rest And Republican down the line.
But we don’t argue those other issues. They all know that I love them, no matter what. I know it’s a lot to think about. My folks are texting me about the concept of nursing homes. What the () am I going to do. I have a bike. All my belongings could fit in the back of a Prius (God forbid.).
All I know is that Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks rock. That’s the good stuff.

What I’m saying is () all this (). We need to go back to CB or HAM radios.
For real. Like Uncle Jesse and Daisy Duke.
That’s what it’s going to come to, but know that you can make an internet with CB. Or FM. Or AM. Or shortwave. It’s just two tones,
A whole separate one. It’d be some slow baud, but still. We need to abandon the kingmakers, somehow. All the ISPs, e’ryone. En masse.
You could make a nascent internet with CB, just with 0 and 1 tones.
Nobody does it, WHY?
i think Dukes of Hazzard was prescient, yo.
LikeLike
You tried to get on CB in the last thirty or so years? A bit noisy/crowded out there and since they dropped the output to 4 watts on AM and 12 on SSB you can get better range by throwing it. The internet’s become the CB radio of the 21st century.

Talked with DH at lunch. His off the top of his head comments were if it was electrical it would most likely be surges which are protected by surge protectors. The other thing he said can kill a computer was if it was hacked. (Maybe that was the hard drive errors you saw.) I went to an unkown, but seemingly reputable website on my old computer, and it “killed” it, so we bought a new computer. We then tried “Fix Me Stick” on the old one, and it works now. We keep it NOT attached to internet for our finances and personal letters. We regularly use Fix Me Stick now on the newer one attached to the web.
Can you check on my Tuesday comment with picture? I know I changed my “name”. Sorry to bother you when you’re having computer difficulty – thanks 🙂

We have a certain fundamentalist strain here that insists it must protect those of us not part of that strain from S-I-N! It steadfastly refuses, even though it lost on the issue of alcohol, to allow folks to have access to medicval marijuana extracts. The issue isn’t medical or extract – it’s the ‘marijuana’ (quotation marks substituting for deep, bass, foreboding vibrato).
If one looks at the Fed records of physician prescriptions in our area you’ll see that opioids are one of the top five in most cases, largely due to the nature of injuries in a rural area and its aging population. The alternatives of organ damaging NSAIDS is the only option left but at non-damaging doses they aren’t all that effective.
Louisiana’s recently allowed selected physicians to prescribe medical marijuana for certain conditions and the meds have to be bought at state licensed stores. but even though my primary medical providers are in Louisiana I can’t get a prescription for a medical marijuana extract as I live in Mississippi. They can prescribe me every other controlled medical substance including opioids but not the evil medical marijuana. I can be prescribed a 6-pak of opiods, keep myself flying like a kite if I wanted but no non-partyable extracts.

Whenever a doc prescribes me any pain med with opiates in it, I tear it up in front of him, and give the shreds back. Every time. I remember my uncle, a very intelligent EMS/Fire guy, getting addicted to them via Durageisc (sp?) patches. I won’t even do Tylenol with Codeine. Nope. I’ve done pot, booze, and for a short period, LSD. No pills. Nothing goes in my nose but my finger is my rule.
There’s an extract of the hemp plant that everyone’s been telling me I should use to quit alcohol, called CBD. It’s actually made from the roots of the plant, not the leaves or the buds. It’s exploding in popularity. I still resist even that. Heck I don’t even do ginsing or yerba mate. Just not into all that hippie s*&t. I don’t want any more addictions. But I’m seriously considering CBD.

I’m trying CBD on my oldest dog, vet says it should help with her arthritis and do less long term damage than the NSAIDS do. They say they’ve taken the fun part out of the CBD and just left the ‘medical’ portions.

I don’t do any NSAIDs either. Those and SSRIs are very bad news for the brain, and the liver, and the kidneys.
I admit that I take Aleve™ every so often for pain.
Do you think I should start taking CBD? Will it miraculously execute my other addictions?
I donno anything about the stuff. Other than it’s made from MJ roots.

Might want to check first with a doc-doc and someone in the herbal business you trust. I’ve tried it for my back/knees and I can’t say it works but there are folks I’ve talked to who swear buy it. As it’s sold openly over the counter through the US they’ve had to take the THC out so as far as being addictive I can’t say for sure but I don’t know anyone mainlining it.

Congressman elect Max Rose (D-NY) is being interviewed by Neil Cavuto and Neil asked him if he will vote for Pelosi. He said no. But, then Neil asked if he wasn’t afraid of retribution and Rose said, “Of course not. We are all adults here.” {{snort}} LOLOLOL Boy, is he in for a surprise. SMH

Seems to me one of the first things Nance said after the election was that the House would now be back in the hands of adults. So he’s already pasted her talking points all over the walls of his deluded little mind.

Why Progressives Can’t Understand How the Corporate Tax Cut is Fueling Our Booming Economy
By William Sullivan – November 12, 2018
George Orwell was correct: “Some ideas are so stupid that only intellectuals believe them.” The corollary, that some ideas are so obviously correct that only intellectuals disbelieve them, is equally true.
Consider these simple facts.

Pray that I get some joy in my life.
There’s a woman at work named Joy that wants me to ask her out, I’m told by a reliable source. I only worked with her for a few hours in the kitchen, and we got along so well it’s like we’d known each other for years. She’s 51, I’m 47. Normally I think about the 20-somethings. But, her name is Joy. I can’t ignore that fact. And she is an absolute joy to work with.
I have until Wednesday, when she works again. I don’t fathom what “go out with” means, even. I work and I sit at home, listen to music and browse these forums. That’s it. I don’t live like a normal person.
My good friend at the liquor store said “just follow your heart”. My heart says do it, but my godforsaken mind gets in the way, and comes up with all manner of excuses why I shouldn’t ask her out. All I know is that she needs a big hug, and so do I. And that she wants a big hug. And her name is Joy.

Ask her out. No expectations other than enjoying each other’s company. Take her to play the piano. Take her to the pier where you take pictures. Stop and eat. But, ask her out.

I’m a dishwasher. I have a bike. All my belongings could fit in the back of her car.
And she wants me to ask her out, for some reason. And her name is Joy.
What.

What aus said. Excellent tips. Don’t ask her out for something like a nice dinner, etc. Do something very casual and fun, then go for coffee if you want to spend more time together talking.

I think I’ll show her the public piano and play it for her. If it’s not covered with snow.
If it is, I’ll show her my piano at home. Pianissimo was a great buy.
We’ll see what happens. I’ve been texting with the kitchen manager, and he just texted me, verbatim, “My Nigga”, when I spoke about talking with this lady,
All I know is that she is cool as heck to work with, and seems familiar. And her name is Joy. Heh. I’m kinda dumbfounded.

We could walk for three blocks and I’d be playing a piano for her, in accompaniment to a giant JBL speaker playing some Chopin or Aurora, or whatever she wants me to jam to. I can work a piano. Give me music. i got this. Not a problem.
Then we could look at the lighthouse in about 2 minutes.
We’ll see what happens. i know she likes me though. For some strange reason.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

“After watching her husband rip into pro-death senators who used Dr. Christine Blasey Ford in attempts to derail the appointment of her husband to the U.S. Supreme Court, Ashley is asking all people of faith to unite in praying Psalm 40, which reads:”
“BE PLEASED, O LORD, TO DELIVER ME, LOOK DOWN, O LORD TO HELP ME. LET THEM BE CONFOUNDED AND ASHAMED TOGETHER, THAT SEEK AFTER MY SOUL TO TAKE IT AWAY. LET THEM BE TURNED BACKWARD AND BE ASHAMED THAT DESIRE EVILS TO ME.”
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen

The motives for Macron’s pathetic insult to Trump over nationalism
By Thomas Lifson – November 12, 2018
The old ironic saying, “No good deed goes unpunished,” helps explain the rude and inappropriate hijacking of a solemn commemoration of the end of World War 1 by French President Emmanuel Macron.
