Jon McNaughton’s “Crossing the Swamp” is a riff on the classic “Washington Crossing the Delaware,” but replacing George Washington’s crew with members of President Trump’s administration. (Jon McNaughton, jonmcnaughton.com)

    Have a good day folks.

I barely had time to read anything but I saw the election results.

WI elected a scumbag who is going to raise our taxes, a Unionita, a man who allowed pedophiles to remain in the classroom. Disgusting.

We lost the house but retained the Senate. All of the huge money candidates lost. Beto , Gillum, etc so it appears to me that the local elections which were easier to steal were in at least some districts stolen by illegals voting and by vote manipulation.

If they want war they will get war.

    Gotta run.

To be honest, I don’t care. Much was made over Mike Braun winning in Indiana. I don’t trust that fool as I can throw him. He seems to think that he’s allowed to think, and I don’t want him to think. He’s not smart enough to think.

On the other hand, Joe Donnelly, Obamacare voter, lost. Yay. Whatever.

I predicted that Republicans would be shellacked a long time ago. They could not figure out why they were getting elected though they seemed to believe it was because they were Democrat light, not because America wanted them to stop the Democrats. And after enduring 2 years of faux hysteria over imagined Russian meddling that the Reps couldn’t be bothered to put an end to, I see no use for the Republican Party. They are afraid CNN will call them names, and that fear paralyzed them from doing anything to stop or even remotely inconvenience Democrats.

For me, this election was summed up best as, “If only I gave a damn.”

I would do agree with most of what you’ve said Rhea. On a whole. The republicans are surely idiots. But. We have two conservative SCOTUS Justices because of those low life republicans. And President Trump is now unimpeachable at the Senate level because of the number of republicans who are in the senate.

Believe me I understand your feelings 100%. I was ready to simply never vote again if Kavanaugh was not put on the bench.

But the republicans, even the fleas, came through for America.

As for Walker. He is a bought and paid for lowlife, but Evers is worse. My taxes are going up, criminals are going to be emboldened, our schools are going to get worse, the teachers union is going to start oppressing and abusing people again, I could go on…

I have removed my emotions from the vote for republicans. I don’t care that people like Ryan and Walker stabbed me in the back. They are a means. That is all. It is our turn to use them.

Yuck is right. I’m not sure what is happening here in WI. Apparently when the vote for the governorship was so close someone “found” 45,000 votes if they were heavily Evers votes 😏, it will put the vote within 1% and trigger an automatic recount.

I haven’t been around much and I’m not sure what is happening but a friend who is close friends with the Kleefisch family said that she is pushing strongly for a recount.

Like I said I probably shouldn’t even say anything because I’m nowhere knowledgable about what public statements are. Heck for all I know that fleabag Walker may have conceded.

Well, Michigan legalized pot, and to make our election laws more liberal. Both are bad in my opinion. I know Wooly voted to legalize pot, but having another mind altering substance legal will just be passing the problems down to another level, if you ask me.

I guess if getting high is your priority, then you’ll be happy about it. I’m not. I understand it, but I’m not happy about it.

They’re not going to stop until they get pot legal in every state and they will use every trick to do so. Like here getting their medical pot legal, they made sure to put it on the primary ballot instead of general ballot. They tried real hard on legalizing all pot, but got caught forging signatures on their petition.
I will never forget what the potheads, teachers, libertarians and liberal GOP did to our state this year.

I’m working with some folks now on a couple of ballot petitions, one to force schools to hold all property tax elections in an election year on election day. The other is all ballot petitions that make it to a ballot must be on the general ballot.

      • That would be my preference. I voted yes, even though I barely ever smoke (or eat those edible things), for purely pragmatic, money-saving, cop-saving reasons. Love me some cops, wish they were going after meth and coke and opiates and pills and not weed. There is no comparison. Fighting weed is like fighting fried chicken, in comparison. Why would you spend millions of dollars in state funds to fight fried chicken? It’s absolutely stupid. It makes no sense.

I feel the same way about my state, Gil. Dems took the governor and state House. Pubs held onto the Michigan Senate. Bad ballot initiatives passed with big majorities. As usual, my Congressional District will be represented by a Democrat – a member of the Levin family (think Senator Carl Levin). My district has been represented by Sander Levin for decades up until his retirement.

Sonnet 73 (‘That time of year thou mayst in me behold’)
    William Shakespeare
That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin’d choirs where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou seest the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west,
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death’s second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou seest the glowing of such fire
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the death-bed whereon it must expire,
Consum’d by that which it was nourished by.
This thou perceiv’st which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long.

Meant to put this interesting interpretation into the post…

What is the meaning of “Death’s second self” in line 8 of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 73?
      https://www.enotes.com/homework-help/sonnet-73-what-meaning-deaths-second-self-line-8-16563?%3Fen_action=hh-question_click

Expert Answers: CHARMELLO eNotes educator | CERTIFIED EDUCATOR…”I have long disagreed with the common interpretation of this sonnet. Although I agree that the images of night, bare trees, etc., are symbols for the passing of time, and that “Death’s second self” could simply be a reference to this, I cannot help to think that this poem is about self-love, not the love of another. It is about the sadness of knowing that even the most brilliant of minds can wither and slow down with the passing of time.

Consider these lines as a whole:
“Death’s second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou see’st the glowing of such fire,
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the death-bed, whereon it must expire,
Consumed with that which it was nourish’d by.”

“Death has two states: Its approach and its presence. A mind also only has two states: Thinking and the inability to think. Thinking – his driving life force – marked the speaker’s life. Age slows the mind and even ‘death’ can appreciate a well-used one.”

I’ve got a few cheerful stories from today. I was supposed to have lunch with my friend and another friend of hers asked to go along. I am so glad she did. She has 4 grown children, 3 boys and a girl. Anyway, these boys were a handful, especially one of them. One day, when the boys were around 8 – 11, both parents had to be gone. When they came back, all the windows were broken out of the family room. The boys had played golf in the room and didn’t quit when the first window got broken.

Another time, the boy who seemed to get in trouble all the time, encouraged by his friend who was a troublemaker, stole a piece of gum from the local small store. He was caught, cops called, older sister got a call, went down and talked the cops into turning him over to her, promising that he would be punished. They arranged with the store owner for him to work a week every day after school to pay for the piece of gum. He cleaned the bathrooms, took all the products off the shelves and wiped them down, and cleaned the floors. He was exhausted every day when he finally came home. They didn’t have that problem again.

The other story was, again, when the parents were gone, the boys were playing pool, and decided to write their names on the ceiling with the blue on the end of the pool cue. ALL their names. As punishment for that they had to scrape the popcorn ceiling off and then blow it back on, which is a dirty, messy job and very tiring.

I don’t know how they managed. It seemed to me like they were handling the situations, but these kids kept doing things. LOL

A dear friend of mine, now in his late 80s, had two sons and a daughter. The daughter was no trouble as a teen, all-A student…just a model child who went on to great success in the aviation industry. The sons, however, had an intense sibling rivalry as teens.

One evening my friend and his wife were attending a business function which lasted to the wee hours. They came home to find a portion of their large home with furniture re-arranged and damaged, doors kicked in, broken items placed in the trash. They didn’t know what to make of the mess and went to each son’s room to determine they were OK only to find both were fast asleep.

The next morning the boys fessed up that they’d gotten into a horrible fight which got completely out of hand. There was nothing they could do about the damaged furniture before their parents came home except to try to set it up OK plus clean up the broken lamps, etc. Needless to say, they were grounded for a very long time. There were a few bad arguments after that, but never anything so physical or drastic.

Later, of course, the boys became the best of friends whose love for each other was total.

My older brothers were always fighting. They were fighting each other in their room one day and knocked a huge hole in the wall, this was after a week or so before they broke their bedroom window.
One evening after dinner my Dad told them to come outside and he threw boxing gloves at the two who did the most fighting and were also the two who broke the window and knocked a hole in the wall. He told them if they were going to fight then they were going to do it with those gloves and in the yard. That from now on that was going to be the way they fought. They beat the snot out of each other and I guess got it all out of their system because they quit fighting after that.
They also had to work to pay for the window and the materials to fix the wall they had to repair themselves.
