Some truth to that, was reading a trades journal that was discussing new Chinese drones that look and flap like birds in flight. Some East Coast universities are working on drones that mimic insects, flying and crawling, and are quite small.
I understand the Democratic Party has had a program in place to develop political drones and has been quite successful, just look at Chuck Schumer and Jerry Brown.

We use plastic Mardi Gras throw cups, but have jelly jars for company. We’ll set you a place! Czar gets into his “fall soups & stews mode” about now, so we’ll have lots of belly warming food for the next few months. It’s his slavic genes. I plan to make some of that rough dutch oven bread to go with hunks of butter.

She understates the issue. These are not jelly glasses ordinaire, the are the last of the BAMA jelly glasses, a signature series, that came out before the company went to (yuck) plastic jars. Another fine Southern tradition gone as the company’s now owned by carpetbaggers.

Good morning Aus. How is Foxy? My old gal has trouble getting up on the bed and couch now so I have ramps for her. Also I have hard wood floors and she is starting to flip and fall in her old age because she just isn’t as steady on her feet. I’m thinking of putting some call rugs down but I know from experience that the little dog will think they are pee pads and pee on them so they’ll need to just be tossed out soon and the pee will seep down to the hardwood and damage it. Buying new show rugs everyday isn’t an option.
Anyone have any ideas?

If you saw Foxy you wouldn’t know anything was wrong with her. She still bounces along on her walks, sometimes running. The problem is, she is hungry now and won’t eat. I have decided one of the meds she is on is making her sick and she throws up for hours after I give it to her. So, I had to stop it. I will see how she does today without it. She had developed an ulcer from one of the other meds and this was to help that. 🙄
I would buy rugs that can be washed that have a good, heavy rubber backing.

When Stella had her knee surgery, I had to put down rugs everywhere. I bought some large inexpensive rubber-backed rugs that could be laundered. I think I bought them at K-Mart at the time, but Walmart probably has something similar.

I’m going to look for a couple of them, I’ll put one at the front door where she falls when I get home and one in the largest area of my front room. I have a small house so I’m hoping it helps.
Thanks Stella and everyone for your input.

Another possibility is carpet squares that you can get at Home Depot or Lowes. The rugs I bought were very low pile, about 3×5′. They wash really well.

Hmmm I forgot about those. I could put a pee pad under them and if the Iggy pees on them it still won’t get on the floor. Good idea.
LikeLiked by 1 person
You know I just had a thought. Grinner (the faller) really doesn’t like walking on the pee pads. I wonder if I just put a bunch of them down if avoiding them would slow her down enough that she’d quit slipping and falling. I’d still have to try a throw rug by the front door for when I get home but I could pick that up when I got home and before I let the Iggy out.
Wait for it folks a near future issue of Home and Gardens is going to feature my home 😊. Decorating with geriatric dogs in mind!

I don’t want to stick my Iggy in diapers. She really doesn’t need them because she uses her pee pads faithfully.
I had to run out to see a new place of business for someone and I was told right where it was. It should have taken me 40 minutes there and back almost 2 hours later and I’m finally back.
The dress is not on the known map. 🙄. Nor was where I was told it would be.
Anyhow, I walked in the door my Grinner was happy to see me and tried to stand on her hind legs but slipped and fell over 😦 . Maybe she will learn to slow down……

It is getting too cold to take her out but maybe I’ll put one of her coats on and take her out more and that way she’ll have less ammunition to target any rugs I may put on the ground! I learned to make good biscuits some time ago, but they got better when I gave in and tried lard. Also, so much better when I stripped rolling them out and just put gently rolled dough in a cake pan. Now they go up and out, and boy, so tender and good.
We keep on with this conversation and I’ll be making biscuits for lunch.
Going to Ketner’s Mill country fair this weekend. I’ll stock up on molasses, stone ground grits and especially their corn meal. Mmm. I’ve got some squash relish just waiting on a big pot of beans and cornbread.

My Kentucky grandmother kept a 5 gallon bucket of lard in her cupboard, used it in everything. Preferred “leaf” lard (from around the hog’s kidneys) for baking Up here I’ve only seen lard in 1 lb packages. I’ve always made my biscuits with butter, which grandmother declared “too rich”. Will have to give lard a try. You were right on the money Menage, about not rolling out the biscuit dough. What a difference that made!

I found this article about leaf lard, which I had never heard of.
https://www.thespruceeats.com/what-is-leaf-lard-2216904
Found this on Quora about suet.
Lard is any fat that is rendered from pigs. Leaf lard is a finer grade of fat, from the kidneys and loin of a pig. It has a high smoke point and is very soft at room temperature.
Suet, especially the suet called for in old recipes, is kidney fat from cows. Many modern butchers sell suet which contains fat from other parts of the animal as suet, but it doesn’t act the same way in recipes. Kidney suet is hard and crumbly, and is usually grated when added to recipes. It then melts as the product cooks, leaving behind air pockets which make the dough or pudding light and tender. using lard instead will make the pudding too dense. There is also a vegetable suet you can buy, made by Atora, which contains Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (47%), Wheat Flour, Sunflower Oil (16%), Stabiliser: Pectin.

I knew that leaf lard and suet were from animal kidneys, but didn’t realize that they come from different animals.

Everybody always goes nuts for sausage gravy. I prefer it always made with bacon grease, and I’ll almost always cook some bacon even if we have fried chicken, just for the grease to flavor the gravy.

I don’t like the hard flavor of commercial sausage, it’s as if they put too many preservatives in for liability sake. This bacon we’re making is fresh-off-the-hog belly with the rind still on. There’s a bit of Prague powder in it but the rest is maple syrup, pepper and rice vinegar. Can’t wait to do a BLT with it.

Then there’s the pea-sized Cambodian pepper that’s hotter ‘n the the hinges of Hell but when sliced thinly and allowed to steep in a good quality soy sauce adds a nice zip to rice. Sigh.

I’ve read that cuisines from tropical/subtropical climates are heavy on hot sauce as a way to disguise the taste of quickly rotting meat. (!)

That was a major reason the Europeans went out asearchin’ trade routes as spices did just that. When we lived there things like game were left to ‘ripen’ in cool, covered area to develop that ‘high’ taste. We still like dry cured beef, we have two ‘on sale’ t-bones in the fridge right now aging a bit more. Stores drop their prices to sell ’em quick when they lose that fresh meat neon red quality.
We were told the peppers helped deworm folks in the tropics where internal parasites are endemic. Can’t speak to that but that hot food don’t hang around to chit chat so that may have some merit.

Seems they failed to realize that when you put the delicate electronic control boards directly above the heating elements they tend to…burn out.
Guy who repaired it a year or so ago told us about a service bulletin that said you shouldn’t use the self-cleaning function as it fries the control board. We’ve been doing broiling so I’m betting that fried the control board again.
Could be something in the drain but as it’s GE and from same series as the self-cleaning oven that doesn’t self-clean, so…..

It’s just living where we do. Didn’t have the assortment of tractors and mowers in the city, just put the 20″ push mower in the trunk and drove to the repair shop. A 5000-pound tractor’s a whole nuther critter…and you gotta buy a trailer.
The house stuff’s a pain as the Home Shield program we have has problems getting local concerns to deal with it. There are also concerns with the number of total companies as there are so few area wide that ones from north of us are doing jobs nearly 50 miles south. We get repair services from over 50 miles away who ride circuit thru the area.

For a year or so I had a rip roaring pain dealing with the Home Shield people. I am twenty minutes or so from Chattanooga, but because I am in Georgia the computer kept assigning Atlanta vendors, most of them two hours away. Of course they just ignored the work order, and no human wanted to override the computer!
It would take at least two days to get a supervisor to assign someone. If we didn’t have so much stuff the thing pays off on it wouldn’t be worth keeping it.

Well with the house problems combined with the outdoor element problems you guys are at lucky 7 so I therefore believe the universe has to stop this sh*t right now. There must be some kind of universal “That’s enough! ” law.

Maybe it’s just priming the pump for us to win the Powerball or Megamillion…or for the lotto machine to break so we can’t get that winning number.

I just saw the Megmilllion is either pushing 1/2 a billion or a billion, I think I’ll play. If I win I’m going to hunt down that boat house and it’s home and buy for myself and send you guys all an invitation.

So you gonna dock the houseboat on the Tennessee River where Sand Mountain overlooks it off AL 35?

Here is the boathouse. I haven’t seen the house yet but it doesn’t really matter, if all else fails I’ll stay in the boathouse.

We were looking at retiring in Mentone or up on the Mountain, went up there in the late 90s looking for land. Folks from Chattanooga were sucking up the land at ridiculous prices – we were shown some 30 acres of ‘reclaimed’ coal pit that was off the water lines and where we’d never get a well into for $20,000 an acre. And yes, some fool bought it, prices were obscene.

Wow. Sounds like current California prices.

You get up on the brow of the mountain over by Ft Payne/Mentone and those Chattanooga folks just drove the prices shy high. They may have stabilized by now but I doubt it.

Very true. It can be a pain to live out in the sticks but for some of us, the inconvenience is so worth it.

Since I had my eye surgery, I’ve found more crap than I can handle! Cobwebs, pantry moths, dog hair and DUST! I’m looking for help.

I’m sure all that happened after your eye surgery. 🙄

Buy a set of inexpensive dark glasses and a good bottle of wine. All of that stuff will still be there long after you can’t appreciate the wine so why waste irreplaceable lifetime doing something you don’t like. The dust, et al, will wait until you savor the wine.

I bought a sign once (I gave it my mother) that said:
Creative women have cobwebs in their corners, but not in their minds.

Fantastic! I used to live in Ronan, an hour north of Missoula, and worked at the community hospital in Missoula before moving to Alaska 20 years ago. Missoula was a deep blue area in an otherwise red state. Will be interesting to see if more hecklers show up. I was worried he wouldn’t get the usual turnout, but Montanans are used to road trips and will happily drive 4-5 hours from the eastern side of the mountains. So great to have another rally to watch. And one tomorrow. And the next day. And Monday.

Yup, looks like the scenery I remember from norther Utah and western Wyoming back in the day…brownish tan. I can remember the visual shock we had when we drove from east Texas into NW Louisiana at night then done woke up to….GREEN!!!! and HUMIDITY!!!!!! when we moved here.

My mother had just the opposite feeling when she saw the desert, all gold and brown. It was a shock to one who had lived in green FL for so long.

Beautiful picture Stella. Not a lot of color here this year. And while most of our trees still have darker green leaves, it seems that many of the leaves just fall off over night with no change of color.

Too many of ours are fallng off without coloring up first, but it is early yet.

Ours get ratty looking on the edges, then brown up, then fall off when the wind blows hard. A few turn yellow then fall off. A few, like the persimmons, fall off after the fruit finishes, so they are already pretty bare. Amazingly, some leaves hold on all winter then get pushed off when the spring leaves emerge.

Here’s my all time favorite Irish rebel song. My son turned me onto it years ago. When I need a little something (besides Jack) to stir the blood I give it a listen.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

“After watching her husband rip into pro-death senators who used Dr. Christine Blasey Ford in attempts to derail the appointment of her husband to the U.S. Supreme Court, Ashley is asking all people of faith to unite in praying Psalm 40, which reads:”
“BE PLEASED, O LORD, TO DELIVER ME, LOOK DOWN, O LORD TO HELP ME. LET THEM BE CONFOUNDED AND ASHAMED TOGETHER, THAT SEEK AFTER MY SOUL TO TAKE IT AWAY. LET THEM BE TURNED BACKWARD AND BE ASHAMED THAT DESIRE EVILS TO ME.”
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen

I will be so glad when election season is over. Although we all are getting to have a little fun with democrats lately. I think somebody sold them a bad list of cell phone numbers, outdated numbers anyways. I’ve had my number for a few years, but still on occasion get calls for Dr. Appointments, etc. for the person who had the number before. My DH is the same except for him it’s the occasional bill collector for the previous owner of the number. Democrats are calling wanting us to vote X candidate, so far for me anyway each candidate is a teacher in a district that is nowhere near me. They are so sure they can count on my loyal Democrat vote until I bust their bubble.
The funniest though was this evening, we were all sitting around playing board games with our little man and my SIL gets a text. He starts laughing and says he usually hates all the calls for Scott who apparently has a bad drug habit and now he knows he’s obviously a democrat because the message is telling him that democrats need all registered democrats like him to vote for U.S. congressional representative. He starts having fun and when he’s asked what his biggest issue is he writes, “Draining the Swamp!” So they send a text back about all the money this guy received for his town as mayor and all the good things he did with it. He texts back, “Bragging about getting federal money for pet projects is not exactly my idea of draining the swamp. What is he going to do about deporting illegals and building the wall?”
They take forever to respond back and then text, “thank you for your time.”
He texts back, “I take it he doesn’t want to deport illegals or build the wall? How can you expect to count on my loyal vote if he can’t be loyal to our country?”
They finally text back, “I think we had the wrong person, we’re sorry to bother you.”
He texts back, “You’re not bothering me. I would honestly like to know how he plans on draining the swamp and if he’s willing to give our President the money to build the wall and hire more agents to deport all the illegals?”
He never got another text. lol
