96 here today for a high and my son’s looking at 18 yesterday in Denver. Then again, I can live with a broken heat pump better here than I could there. Deep Southern Mississippi 1, Denver 0. As if that were the only reason I couldn’t live there.

Very low 40’s and incessant rain in Big D. We are waterlogged.

Going to be 65 and rain today. All the highs are in the 60’s for the next week, and lows in the 40’s, except Sunday night we might go into the high 30’s. Fall has finally arrived after teasing us.
I had to cut the heat on this weekend because we had grandkids here over night. My husband and I still like it cool at night, but the little ones kick the covers off and get cold.

48* here – high expected to be 52*, and not much better until Sunday. It’s here, alright – I’ve been draggin’ my plants back in the house.

AC repair folks are supposed to be here between 3 and 5 today…opne of the problems about being in the sticks. Woke up to light fog and cool weather – hi is supposed to be about 59 today – quite a drop from the 95 yesterday – but humidity’s supposed to be rather icky. From hot and humid to cool and clammy, we love fall.
It’s going to take days to get the humidity out, furniture and fabrics have had days to hydrate, but weather’s supposed to stay below 70 for the week except for one flier later in the week where it’ll hit 80ish.
Can’t believe that untold generations lived this without the civilizing effects of AC – I can’t even remember how we lived this without AC.

I’ll tell you how, we didn’t know any better. I never understood why they made fun in the movies of people in the South sweating. That was all I ever knew. What a shock when I moved to S. Cal. and the humidity was below 30%, sometimes almost 0%.

Yeah, I remember in the Salt Lake Valley when we’d use swamp coolers to add moisture to the air to cool us.
In Florida we’d open the jalousie windows and turn the fans on – that passed for cool. I’m done with reminiscing and counting the minutes until the AC repair guys get here. I’m betting that it’s going to require a part and if Trane’s past record of supplying repair parts still holds it’s gonna be a while longer yet.

One of the things about living in the apartment I live in is that air cond. repair is not a problem. It doesn’t matter what time of the day or night it dies, someone is over here to fix it within 15 min. They may have to call someone at home to come, but even then, it is only a half hour or so. If they need a part they don’t have, they just bring another unit over and replace the whole thing.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Send ’em over here. We’re using a local we’re paying for ourselves as if we used our home-shield repair service it could be a week or more before they get here and if a part’s needed it could be another week or more after they get it in before they get back to fix it.

Well that sucks. Did I ever tell you about the time our break shoes (?) needed to be replaced on a 27 foot Winnebago type vehicle in Thayne Wyoming ? My poor aunt and uncle stuck in the middle of nowhere for 3 or 4 days with me and my friend, me and my friend being 18 and knowing everything. Brave people taking us on that road trip.

Brrrrrr…brought back memories MANY moons ago being stuck in Little America, Wyoming during a blizzard. That was my 2nd most memorable Wyoming memory after being on the I-80 and having a B-52 practicing low level runs pop over the road at OH %$#@!& altitude.

This was summer time, and it was beautiful, my friend and I made many poor decisions in those short few days. Never ever accept alcohol from a bartender if he pulls an unlabeled bottle out from under the bar. It was grain alcohol, likely my uncle would have killed them (likelihood at 99.9999% if anything happened to us other than getting really drunk.

Yup, used to be a law that any empty liquor bottles had to at least have the labels destroyed before being thrown in the trash.
A lot of that pure grain liquor moonshined up from the South was used to refill those bottles – they still sell the flavorings online to make your own booze out of Everclear or whatever.
Stuff packs a kick, doesn’t it%

In ‘Nam the jets used pure alcohol and water injected into the jet’s afterburner to give it a KICK. We’d trade stuff to the line folks and they’d give us jugs of the pure stuff. Being young and naive I poured a shot of 100% into a paper Dixie cup only to watch it evaporate right thru the paper. Burns going down too.
In the old Russian Far Eastern Command they had a lot of their fighter jets on the ‘broken, can’t fly’ list. We wondered why so many were down until someone found out the bored and isolated military at the bases were drinking the hydraulic fluid. Seems they used the alcohol the jets needed to fly for party fodder…how socialist.

Czarina’s aunt and uncle owned a ranch in Wyoming, part of their estate helped pay for our place here. I’d have, as I’ve said before, retired in the West but after that year of drought in Utah – no.
Of course there is Czarina too and she finds any winter temperature less than 70-degrees unacceptable sooooooo…..

Speaking of Wyoming, I’m watching Longmire, marathon style. I’ve never seen it before, and I love it. Takes place in the town of “Durant” in fictional Absaroka County. Actually Buffalo in Johnson County.

Thank you, Lovely. Sara’s awesome. I just pulled my guitar out last night, on a whim. Somehow it’s still in tune. Except for that fifth string, which always goes a bit flat. I couldn’t play it like I wanted to, because I just cut my pinky on a meat slicer — not on the blade, either. On the stupid little hook on the weight. That sucker is sharp! I play with my fingers. Using a pick is foreign to me. It’s like playing with one finger. I can pull chords with all five fingers, and sweep with my middle and ring. I so wish I could make money doing what these people do, instead of working in restaurants.
Not making music, when you know you can, is so depressing. So is crawling around on your knees scrubbing baseboard trim.
“Whoomp, There It Is!” still makes $50k a year in royalties. I can’t write and record an unbelievably stupid song? I can scrub baseboard trim, and floor drains, because nobody else wants to, or can.
I found a cello sound, on a synthesizer called Sakura, the other day. It sounds like a real cello. It feels like one. I fiddled with that thing for two hours on my keys. Anyone outside my apartment would have sworn there was an actual cello in there. I didn’t even add any effects.

Sorry Wooly! I got a phone call from my sweet friend and here we are over an hour later!
You’re moving in the right direction Wooly, touching people’s souls, and bearing the weight of your own world but still finding the simple joys of life making your soul sing even if your mind and body don’t feel it.
I hate the darkness. It is draining and numbing but there is a Light. Solely brighter than a thousand suns even if and when we are shrouded.

An interesting read, in ways reminded me of my old Federal office where we had a flock of ‘programmers’, most of whom were created in-house as they couldn’t pass a real college class. The agency needed the balanced demographic numbers so it had a group who basically never turned their machines on and a group that worked with a lot of competent adult leadership. Those few who were actually skilled were worked to the bone trying to ensure the product actually worked, product that was used on a more-or-less obsolete system.
Issue wasn’t a matter of accurately, quickly and competently serving the taxpaying public but meeting social engineering needs and, in a number of cases, hiring members of prominent local families. The situation got so bad that our agency lost a multi-billion dollar program it built and operated to a civilian company. Our programmers, who for the most part just strung lines of pre-written code together, were so out of it that if you wanted to change the holdings in your account it took weeks to months, they couldn’t write a program to allow you to do it online more quickly though every other civilian investment/401k/IRA company had allowed you to do it for years.
I know just how this guy feels but if Google – as the Federal; government – still feels extraneous concerns are more important than competence in meeting the public’s needs that may just be keeping us from having to pledge allegiance to Google each day when we wake up.

There is a parking spot next to my apartment that most people don’t know is a legal parking spot, but it is, and always has been. The new owner of the store decided to put up a sign, “Parking For Official Vehicles Only”, because he thought it was his spot. He’s a good man, a great man, but it’s not his spot, it’s a public parking spot.
A cop from the town next to us made me laugh out loud when he asked, very politely, “Is it okay if I park here?” WHAT? He was just a youngun. I tilted my head to the side, after laughing, and said, “You’re a cop! You’re asking ME?” Then I looked at the sign, and looked at his vehicle. I said, “Yep, looks pretty official to me! I don’t think SH PD is going to give you a ticket, sir.” No cop has ever asked me if it was okay to park anywhere.
I’ll never forget that.

New Orleans, back in the 90s, had a private uniformed service that gave our parking tickets. They were paid for each ticket given, not each one paid, so they went wild.
We mostly used our private vehicles on duty and had placards for our windshields showing we were on official duty.
Our placards didn’t stop them from ticketing us any more than it stopped them from ticketing any other police car (fire department red-and-white cars and pickups too), marked or unmarked with placards. The department never paid them, they were just piled up and, at intervals, dumped back into the parking bureau to be removed from the system.
It was cheaper for the city to hire a company and pay them per ticket given instead of hiring civil service folks to do it. The sheer stupidity of it was more than compensated for by the city’s cost savings in not having to hire m,ore drones from the local worker base. The city had a mountain of unpaid tickets when Katrina hit – it was a bureaucrat’s/politician’s dream when the storm hit and they could claim the loss of those years-long unpaid tickets was K’s fault.

NOLA’s been trying to tame the Latino immigrants that have come in – NOLA allowed ‘sanctuary sites’ before Katrina and welcomed thousands more in post-K so that the needed reconstruction could get done by workers willing to work and at a reasonable price. Local politics have paid the price too, our first female mayor is not only black but from the Left Coast…something that would be almost impossible before Katrina. The city’s now becoming a more humid version of a major Left Coast city.
I think Moonbeam will be beaten (with Wiffle bats by injured victims of his politics) when the population shift allows a Geraldito Marron to run.

There’s been many changes to our areas as well. Obama got the ball rolling to try and move Texas into the purple and blue column. So many are coming here from Gov. Moonbeams area and I fear they will bring their politics with them.

Back in the late 90s we were looking at the shanty towns popping up all along both sides of the Rio Grande. They’d provide staging areas on the Mex side for illegals to queue up while on the US side they’d provide shelter.
Cartels were also buying/renting/occupying houses in the US areas closeish to the river and land routes to pack the illegals into for staging.
So at some point the Rats will have choked our red and purple states with millions of folks who have Z-E-R-O familiarity with democracy or how the US is supposed to run, few skills of any use and who speak English poorly if at all.
The Clinton’s and Obama’s cartel relations might just work for them after all.

Now a smart Congressional panel would grant him immunity for his truthful testimony and take away his ability to use the 5th. If he then still refused to testify he could be found in contempt and housed in a Federally run/contracted pokey until he decides to cough up the testimony.
A few weeks/months in an innercity Fed pokey (so descriptively named) should loosen him up, I’d even send him commissary money for supplies.

I had to look up maenad: a shrieking, frenzied woman.
Hillary’s defeat caused unimaginable shock. It almost immediately prompted a collective psychological meltdown. The tragedy was not just that an inept Clinton had squandered the gifts of a $1 billion war chest, the deep-state collusion of the Obama administration, and a completely captive and obsequious media. But she had lost to Trump, the reality-TV-show host, the controversial raconteur, the first serious presidential candidate with neither military nor political experience.
Worse still, Clinton had blown a huge lead by foolishly seeking an electoral mandate while Trump, the supposed dunce, outsmarted her analytics and young techies by battering down the blue wall and stealing her Democratic Midwest with a populist nationalist message, part JFK, part Ronald Reagan.
Nothing is more humiliating than to be already doling out White House patronage jobs on Election Day at noon, and by evening suffering a shipwrecked candidacy and the certainty of eight more years of progressive rule incinerated. No wonder progressives were recently reduced to frenzied maenads gnashing their teeth and breaking their fingernails on the closed doors of the Supreme Court.
The whole thing is good. And classic VDH.

To be fair to Hillary, she may yet star on a reality program, I understand ‘The First 48’ may be reserving a slot for her if the investigations pan out.

She’s just parroting a refrain the Rats started under the Chief Rat, FDR (shorthand for: F*** Da Re-public). They’re dying to install their dicktatorship of the proletariat, believing that once they’re coronated as the Uniparty they can control the rabble they’ve used so long for support.

Hey y’all, if you bought a 2018 or 2019 GM product and haven’t received a recall notice ya might wanna call your dealer and find out if your model’s included in the recall. When GM called me tell me I was ready for an oil change (I wasn’t). I called my dealer to see about oil changes and lo, e’re told coincidentally, about this potentially deadly defect.
Seems some of the gas the lines had in them during assembly might still be in them, causing your brakes to fail with no warning. So if you has an 18-or-19 GM vehicle and haven’t been notified you might wanna call your dealer for the free fix.

I just wrote this, but accidentally put it on yesterday’s thread. So, I am repeating it here:
OMG We went to see Gosnell today. What a fantastic movie. It was so well done. They didn’t Hollywood it up……you know, bedroom scenes, cleavage, car chases, etc. My mind is kinda in a jumble because there are so many things I want to say. All of the actors were great. I have so much respect for Earl Billings who played Gosnell. I think it took courage to take the part and he did it so well………….very creepy. And, there was one guy, who played the partner of Woody, the detective. I kept looking at him and know I have had a strong attachment to him for some reason. But, I couldn’t figure out what I had seen him in before. He is Alfonso Rachel……..Zo, from Zonation. No wonder I recognized him.
Nick Searcy was the director, and he played Gosnell’s attorney. He did a really good job of both……….I couldn’t stand him. LOL
One thing I think Dean Kane said in an interview was that when they went on the set the first time and saw all the bags and filth that were strewn around, that they said it had been overdone. So the set people showed the actors actual pictures that they had used to construct the sets and they actually did not put out as much as was in the pictures. If you go, stay through all the credits. They show the actual pictures of scenes in the movie.
I couldn’t believe how many people were in the theater. Probably about 25. This is at noon, so usually there are only a few. When the show was over and the lights came on, nobody spoke. They just filed out of the theater silently.
Very, very well done movie. Too bad it won’t have a chance for an award. 😦

I am not sure I will see it. I think I would have nightmares for the rest of my life. Thank you Aus.

Believe me, I understand. This was filmed to have a PG-13 rating. So, it is not as gory as it could have been. Mostly what you see are bags and boxes, etc. There is one really horrible picture that the prosecutor showed the jury. They did not show it on screen. At the end, they said you could go online to their website, gosnellmovie.com and look at it there. I thought that was very wise of them to do that.

I had to stand off to the side where I couldn’t see the movie screen during The Passion of the Christ. I just can’t handle seeing it. I could still hear it and cried uncontrollably, because I’m sure what was depicted was pretty accurate and just unbearable to witness. He bore it all for us. I’m sure my reaction to this movie will be the same.

I hate most classic rock. I do love organs, though.
I grew up with a double-decker in the house, with bass pedals, and big-a** speakers.
This thing picked up CB Radio in the middle of the night, from the truckers on the highway, even when turned off. So creepy. We don’t know how, but it happened many times.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
