Wunnerful day at the airshow yesterday. It was sunny, not too hot, beautiful clear blue skies and a light breeze off the the lake. Ideal conditions.
The main attraction was the Commemorative Air Force (nee: Confederate Air Force) collection of war birds and a few outsiders. One of the last B-29s flying was there as were a flying B-17 and a B-25 that performed together – the B-17 being a strategic bomber wasn’t as agile and making hi-speed jinking runs like the 25 was but the made a number of go-arounds and really low flyby runs. It was good to hear their engine sounds again, some of them were still in service when I was a kid and the sound of any radial engine is unique and music to a plane lever’s ears.
They also had a few single-seater fighters, one being the P-51, and they flew them in mock combat. The pilots wrung them out for the crowds with steep dives and low-level, hi-speed, ground-hugging zooms right close to the crowd.
High point was seeing about a dozen WWII vets there, most in wheelchairs, with one we saw being a B-29 crewman. Not many left.
My C-47 was there, didn’t get to tour it as by the time we got there it was being prepped for a flight and after landing it had to cool down and get readied for its next flight. It did do low-level flyovers and a number of pylon turns close by – the latter being evocatory as the AC-47s used that turn as their attack profile when they were saving our asses as they flew over and dumped some 6000 rounds per minute out of each of the 3 GE miniguns onto the heads of unlucky VC or NVA. Sigh…50 years ago but those engine sounds still resonate…
Jr didn’t get to go – a bad week for him at home and school – but next week there’s a smaller show over at Hammond and he’s going to have to do something like poach a Congressman to be prevented from going to this one. For one thing they’re going to have a flying JU-87 Stuka there, though I think it’s going to be a repro. He’s very interested in WWI and WWII so this should fit right in.

I guess POTUS has a 60 minutes interview going to air and theres some questions about Gen. Mattis leaving. I hope there is no truth to this. At least, not until POTUS himself leaves.

“President Trump told CBS’s 60 Minutes that Defense Secretary James Mattis might be one of the next officials to depart his Cabinet.

Asked by Leslie Stahl if the Trump administration was in chaos – citing the high turnover, Trump said It’s wrong, it’s so false… It’s fake news.”

“I have people now on standby that will be phenomenal,” he continued. “I think I have a great Cabinet. There are some people that I’m not happy with. I have some people that I’m not thrilled with, and there are some people that I’m beyond thrilled with.”

Stahl then asked specifically about Mattis, whose departure has been rumored for weeks, to which Trump replied: “I had lunch with him two days ago, I have a very good relationship with him. It could be that he is [leaving],” adding “I think he’s sort of a Democrat if you want to know the truth. But General Mattis is a good guy. We get along very well. He may leave at some point. I mean, at some point, everybody leaves. People leave, that’s Washington.”

    From our friend, Clarice.

    Turkish Taffy

    https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/10/turkish_taffy.html#.W8M06rXU_yc.facebook

It seems to me the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi, last seen in Istanbul, is Erdogan-brand Turkish taffy, a confection of sugary lies made to inflame Americans against the Saudis and aid the far more dangerous to our well-being mullahs of Iran.

I confess to prejudice in this matter. I think Iran is a grave threat to the world, and the Saudis are aiding us in constraining the mullahs. Like Matthew Continetti, I believe the Saudis are now an important counterterrorism ally and roiling the waters there would disrupt “energy markets, create pockets of instability in which jihadists and Iranian-backed militias thrive, and cause headaches for Israel.”

If we disrupt our present relationship, why wouldn’t the Saudis turn elsewhere — China and Russia — and any influence we have in the Middle East would be lost.

In fact, if those in Congress who believe this nonsense get their way and cut arms sales to the Saudis, the beneficiaries will be arms producers in China and Russia and, of course, Iran…

Seems Clarice is right-on-the-money here. Others have also been calling this a phony story, too…Daniel Greenfield, for one. Thomas Wictor also has been on this from Day 1, calling it a phony story. He’s a fan of what he believes is Saudi military expertise which assists U.S. interests on a big scale…I have no idea, of course, whether his supposition is true.

Jamal Khashoggi is a big-time Muslim Brotherhood supporter (member?) and is a major liar. No wonder the WaPo loves him and allows his lies in their rag.

And to think our Pentagon (Mattis?) is allowing Bezos to run the CIA cloud, making him the wealthiest man in the world perhaps.

It seems to me Khashoggi being minced in the embassy, a 14 wide squad of Arab assassins being flown into Istanbul, an Apple watch being live audio streamed to an ally of Khashoggi is even more far fetched than an old episode of 24.

Why would Saudi Arabia paint itself into a corner?

Why would 14 elite assassins be needed?

Why would it not be done in the dark secretive underworld of assassin hits?

Why would Khashoggi’s friend (was it supposed to be his fiancee?) not sound the alarm as soon as the Apple watch started sending the slaughter to the phone the friend was holding?

Why would Prince bin Salman willingly throw away the “new face” of Saudi Arabia?

If it doesn’t make sense, under any which light you view it, then it isn’t true.

Prince bin Salman is brutal, no one paying attention can deny that, but, Prince bin Salman is the product of a brutal culture and whatever his reasons, and I believe self preservation is at the top of the list, bin Salman is dragging his third world country men and women up a few centuries.

One thing Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is not, is stupid, if things happened the way that the MSM, Turkey, Erdogan, Iran and the political elites (did I just repeat myself) would like us to believe, then bin Salman has lost his rational mind. I don’t believe Saudi Arabia has a 25th Amendment so the only reason that the usual suspects would be pushing this story is to build enmity between President Trump and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. < That makes sense.

Deception has always been the Leftists go to mode to move public opinion.

I was suspicious about this story the minute I heard about it. What would make more sense is that there is a traitor in the Salman group who led the group to commit the murder backed by Iran to try to put a schism between P.Trump and Salman. What is making me angry is our congress persons going on TV and saying we need to do this and that to the Saudis. Gee, didn’t we just go through this with Justice Kavanaugh?

I’ve been thinking in the lead-up to this election that Republicans really, really seem to think I count on their ability to think.

Actually, I don’t. And after they spent six years wringing their hands under Obama (did they think they got the largest Congressional majority because we wanted them to further O’s agenda?) all I want is someone representing me in Congress who will say “How High?” when President Trump says “Jump.”

        • Hi, Sand. Been hanging out with Chef and the old crew, last night and tonight. They want me back in the restaurant. I just went over to say hi, and ended up helping them close. Because I can’t help myself, and I miss them, and they miss me. Good God, the floor drains. They need some love. When I saw the floor drains, I knew I was needed. Floor drains should never look like that. It’s shameful. What if Gordon Ramsey’s TV crew came in unannounced, and started filming your area, including your floor drains, at your station. Would you be proud of what your station — all of it — looks like in 1080 HD? You should be able to. It should be THAT clean and shiny.

Mop sinks. Floor drains. Baseboard trim. That’s what I look at when I am at a restaurant. The undersides of tables. Prep table legs, the bottom four inches which are usually caked in black from months of mopping the floor. Metal scrubbie make ’em look brand new.

Is there anyone in your kitchen that wants to make ’em look brand new?

Why not? It makes me sick. Almost nobody cares about the business any more.

What? Of course we did. I had glue sticks and I’m a lot older than Miller for goodness sake he was 8 in 1993! These people are losing their minds. Having the Great Kavanaugh Debacle has bore a hole into their brains and they are going to say anything that they think sounds bad or casts a poor light on President Trump or anyone who will not outright denounce him.

Look at this nut case Gabriel Sherman. He says a mean old whitey knocked his 15 month old daughter over and that the mean old whitey’s mean old whitey wife demanded an apology from Gabriel after Gabriel meekly asked for an apology from whitey.

Oh and his daughter, his 15 month old daughter being far enough away from him and either getting bumped into or more likely running into someone is President Trump’s fault.

These people have truly lost their minds.

DEMOCRAT SENATORS TRADED 15 TRUMP JUDGE CONFIRMATIONS TO GO CAMPAIGN

    https://www.newsweek.com/democrat-senators-traded-15-trump-judge-confirmations-campagin-1166979

With the November midterms approaching, Senate Democrats on Thursday night made a deal with their Republican colleagues to allow their endangered incumbents to get home and campaign, according to multiple reports.

In exchange for the ability to go campaign, Democrats agreed to confirm 15 federal judges—a lifetime appointment—who had been nominated by President Donald Trump. Politico reported that it was a calculated move by the Democrats because, under Senate rules, even if they spent 30 hours of debate on each nominee, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would still have been able to push them through before the election.

So, the Democrats, led by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, made the deal to go home.

Trump snubs Feinstein, Harris to nominate conservative judges to liberal 9th Circuit

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-snubs-feinstein-harris-to-nominate-conservative-judges-to-liberal-9th-circuit

President Trump is plowing ahead to fill three vacancies on the liberal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, brushing aside Democratic resistance to nominate conservative judges.

Presidents traditionally work with senators from judicial nominees’ home state — in this case, California — to put forward judicial picks. They often seek what’s known as a “blue slip,” or an opinion from those senators.

But in a snub to California Democratic Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, the White House announced Wednesday that Trump had nominated Patrick Bumatay, Daniel Collins and Kenneth Kiyul Lee (all from the Golden State, and reportedly all members of the conservative Federalist Society) to the influential circuit. The court, with a sprawling purview representing nine Western states, has long been a thorn in the side of the Trump White House, with rulings against the travel ban and limits on funding to “sanctuary cities.”
