Beautiful Critters.

Track the annual Monarch Migration on Journey North

Monarchs migrate between August and November to Mexico and California. When my daughter was 2 years old, we lived in a farmhouse in Illinois that had a huge Catalpa tree in the backyard. One evening as we returned home, we saw our Catalpa tree covered by thousands of Monarchs, where they had stopped to rest for the night. It was amazing, and I don’t know why I didn’t take photos. I haven’t seen anything like it before or since.

Journey North reports that peak flights were spotted last week along the Atlantic coast and ridges of the Appalachian mountains.

“We saw Saw at least 41 monarchs throughout the day at the high elevations of the Blue Ridge Parkway.” Elizabeth Fox, Canton, NC September 29, 2018

Trump Steadfastness on Kavanaugh Wins Over Some Never-Trump Conservatives

    https://legalinsurrection.com/2018/10/trump-steadfastness-on-kavanaugh-wins-over-some-never-trump-conservatives/

Some of Trump’s harshest critics have been people on the right who identify as “Never-Trump” conservatives.

But his record on the economy, judicial appointments and foreign policy is starting to change the minds of some. And Trump’s steadfast defense of Brett Kavanaugh sealed the deal.

There are people who will probably never change, Jennifer Rubin of the Washington Post comes to mind, but who knows what the future holds?

Matthew Continetti, editor in chief of the Washington Free Beacon is not only a frequent critic of Trump, he is Bill Kristol’s son-in-law. Here are some highlights from his most recent column:

    Trump’s Remarkable Week

Can we pause for a moment to consider what has transpired in the last seven days?

TRADE: Earlier this week, the Trump administration announced it had reached an agreement with both Mexico and Canada to revise and rebrand the North America Free Trade Agreement as the United States Mexico Canada Agreement…

ECONOMY: The Trump Bump continues, with Friday bringing news that unemployment has reached its lowest level since 1969. Consumer confidence is high, and data from the manufacturing and service sectors indicate continued growth…

JUDGES: Susan Collins’s announcement that she will vote to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh practically guarantees he will be seated on the Supreme Court in the coming days. Kavanaugh’s elevation will secure a five-vote majority of originalist and textualist judges on the high court for the first time in modern memory…

Donald Trump is putting the finishing touches on one of the most remarkable weeks of his presidency. For Republicans, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Erick Erickson of RedState fame, has been steadfastly Never-Trump, but he is also changing his tune. He writes at Townhall:

    Trump 2020?

I have wobbled back and forth on the idea of supporting President Donald Trump in 2020. I opposed him in 2016 and voted third-party. The candidate I supported, Evan McMullin, has, like so many others, abandoned all his values as his hatred of Trump poisons his conscience. I dare say the worst mistake in my life was not when I climbed a mountain only to remember I was scared of heights, or when I played with a scalpel that nearly cut off my finger as a kid. It was voting for McMullin…

I find myself in an odd position where, for the first time, I see myself, one of the original so-called “Never Trump conservatives,” voting for Trump in 2020. I have inevitably concluded at times that Trump would do something to push me away from him. He has not disappointed on that front, from tariffs to character issues. But now I do not see how anyone else can offer a more compelling alternative to the president. Each time the president does something I do not like, his opponents play a game of “hold my beer.”…

Trump is neither an ambassador for my values nor the articulate champion of my principles I would prefer. But he is a safe harbor in a progressive storm that seeks to both destroy my values and upend our constitutional republic….

Ran out to Walmart and got a few hurricane supplies. Just more water and a few cans of beans, just in case. Michael is headed for the panhandle, but one in the past made a right turn and went straight across Central FL. I really feel for the people in the areas that still have not recovered from the last one that may be hit again.

If I lived in Pennsylvania, I would take 1 of these poor beagles! Animal hoarders are the worst. Hopefully everyone gets adopted.

“Animal welfare workers removed 71 beagles from a cramped house in rural Pennsylvania, where officials say a woman had been breeding them without a license before she died last month.

The Lehigh County Humane Society got a call late Saturday night from police who responded to noise complaints at a home outside Allentown, said Barbara Morgan, the Humane Society’s police officer.

The officers estimated about 25 dogs were inside the home. Four animal welfare workers and two trucks responded.

“Six hours later, we’ve removed 71 beagles,” Morgan said, adding she had never seen so many animals squeezed into such a small space.

Many are sickly and underweight and all of the animals had fleas, she said. Several are showing symptoms of mange and others have vision issues and are possibly blind.

The dogs didn’t initially belong to the man who owned the home, said Mary Shafer, the executive director of the county Humane Society. The man’s companion had been breeding, kenneling and selling beagles, and acted as a beagle rescue, all without a license, Shafer said.

The woman passed away in September, leaving the man with the animals, she said. He will likely face charges.

The dogs are being evaluated and information on adoption will be available in coming days. Until then, the shelter is in need of donations to help care for them, including wet food, towels, sheets and leashes.

“It is beagle-mania here right now,” Morgan said.

The shelter typically handles 200 animals at a time, and the influx of beagles has overwhelmed the large dog area of the non-profit shelter, Morgan said.

Just bathing them, clipping their nails and separating the ill from the healthy has been a challenge. Eventually all the dogs will be spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.

“It is really stressing for staff, but they’ve told me this is why they are here and they appreciate being able to help,” Shafer said.”

I never have seen a swarm of monarchs like that. I hope that their habitat hasnt been burned with the fires here. I keep wanting to plant more flowers. Maybe this spring kiddo and mommy will have a butterfly/hummingbird flower garden with our strawberries.

    This is big but neat!

I have a very long raised planter that I can do this in, but I will have to rip out a bunch of succulents. Its where the strawberries are too. I think ill get better pollinations wuth the berries though. Maybe add in some thyme and basil?

I don’t know about growing season in your area, but here, in the winter, basil dies but thyme is a perennial.

Same actually. Here a few years ago it actually snowed. We will get frost that damages more though. My strawberries are very happy with cool nights and 80 in the day. My tomato is done, same for basil and pepper. Never produced or grew all summer. Going to rip out those succulents and make it flowers and herbs. Can you believe my daffodils have sprouted? About 3/4 inch out the ground.

Plant milkweed, they’ll camp out on your porch. You can get bright;y colored varieties and avoid that dull flowering wild milkweed many of us know from childhood.

Hello, Stellars. I’m taking just a moment to ask for your prayers. As I informed you previously, I’ve been having trouble with my eyes and using eye drops, artificial tears to keep me going until I could get to my appointment in December (lengthy time due to doctor shortage in my area).

This morning I awoke with red-streaked eyes, but alarmingly my left eye pupil will not dilate but just stays larger than the right eye, not changing with light/dark…like it’s stuck. I thought about going to Emergency, but called the ophthalmologist in hopes they could get me in today…no luck there but did get an appointment for tomorrow. Hopefully there is nothing heavily wrong with the eye requiring anything but rest and meds.

So take care, everyone. I’ll be back when I can. Love you all!

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

“After watching her husband rip into pro-death senators who used Dr. Christine Blasey Ford in attempts to derail the appointment of her husband to the U.S. Supreme Court, Ashley is asking all people of faith to unite in praying Psalm 40, which reads:”

“BE PLEASED, O LORD, TO DELIVER ME, LOOK DOWN, O LORD TO HELP ME. LET THEM BE CONFOUNDED AND ASHAMED TOGETHER, THAT SEEK AFTER MY SOUL TO TAKE IT AWAY. LET THEM BE TURNED BACKWARD AND BE ASHAMED THAT DESIRE EVILS TO ME.”

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
