      “If the accusation is enough, God help us all around here.” and THAT is why repubs will vote yes. I was discussing the congressional slush fund of taxpayer $ to pay off sex claims with DH. If it goes public, the Dems will applaud the “bad” behaviour or ignore it, but the Repubs base will freak and throw them out. Maybe it’s a good “stick” (of “carrot & stick”) to keep the rino’s voting the right way.

      Though we have often seen Senator Graham take what seem to be sketchy stands on the issues and certainly his almost kowtowing to McCain seemed weird, plus his Never-Trump stand during the primaries and then the 2016 election was off-putting, he’s been making a bit more sense in recent days. Better late than never.

    Absolutely draining day yesterday, still tired and pissed.
    Czarina and In went to the GGS’s school for a scheduled face-to-face. When we got there the meeting hadn’t been coordinated, participants had gone to other venues and, once again, the stories had changed. The staff heads were hoping we’d just chalk it up to ‘whoopsies’. hang our heads and slink out. Wrong tactic.
    As Czarina’s the subject matter expert my jobs to go in and, if necessary, act like Charles Laughton/Quasimodo on meth. It was a Quasimodo day and I hate leaving that impression but suddenly all of the principal actors appeared with appropriate documentation and we had a productive 45 minute meeting.
    As I thought, his actions on the bus were responsible for the incident that got him detention but had they implemented his IEP on the date they were obliged to there’s reasonable doubt that the incident would not have occurred, it was classic ADHD behavior. An interesting note was that by his not being able to access the bus to come home his mother was forced to risk her job to rush across town to pick him up and bring him home. They basically shrugged their shoulders and told her that that was where she was.
    During the spin up the week before the meeting the person in charge of my GGS’s IEP couldn’t find the new one, knew nothing about it. When I mentioned there was supposed to be a review date in August 2018 they couldn’t even find the date on his old form in his file. When I said: “page one, line four, right where it says ‘review date’…oops. I was even told that they hadn’t done the new IEP and were unfamiliar with his issue.
    So here we are, Czarina and I playing ‘bad cop and not as bad but far less drooling maniac cop’, sitting at the table with the players who’d laid this line of smoke out earlier. Lo and behold, and without any explanation, a new and shiny IEP appears, all signed and dated. Not wishing to jigger the moment and wishing to plow ahead Czarina immediately starts comparing the 20 page old and new IEPs page and line. The educators are at the other side of the table, sometime making small talk but most of the time just quiet, watch her making notes as she compares. She’s totally business-like, her professional voice and demeanor coming across the table to people used to using their positions to dominate parent-teacher meetings, they ain’t used to this. A couple of them even slipped into a soft defensive mode – it was a joy to behold, like a Nat Geo special as the lioness just lopes on behind her prey, waiting for it to fall.
    At the end he got his new IEP and his mom got a promise that if he’s again prevented from taking the bus to or from school the school will use a special program to pick him up at home and take him to school and take him back home at the end of the day. Hmmmmmmm….maybe the ‘special program’ just slipped their minds until I mentioned that their failure to fully implement the IEP, which could be argued to be a proximal issue in his acting out on the bus and getting suspended and cause her to lose her job, might be an actionable item.
    I wonder how many parent, of those who even show up, are cowed by the manipulative actions of the school staff? I realize the school he’s at is thought of as a dumping ground for lower income/minority students but we’re not about to settle for the district’s disparate treatment and expectations for this school’s ‘outcomes’ versus the other middle school in town. It was five years of head-to-head meetings with his elementary school and now it’s getting to look like another three with the middle school.
    As an idea of what we’re dealing with:
    GGS’s school ‘other’ middle school in town
    Standard test scores: below average above average
    Student progress same level as last year better than last year
    low income students 57% 96%
    black/white 78%/16% 33%/59%
    Math/language arts not so hot scores above average scores

    No we can’t get the district to allow him to swap to the better school even though it’s closer – the gerrymandering of the district prevents it. That said, if he doesn’t improve by the end of the school year we’re seriously considering a suit to force a move on a civil rights basis. When you look at the race ratios and compare them to school performance you can see that there’s a disparity. Many public schools in the South have been raked over the coals for better stats than we see here so let’s see if we’ll meet in the streets at high noon next May.

      Im sorry you have this fight but I am so happy you are willing to do it and understand how to do it.
      Im terrified. Kiddo not behaving well. They ambushed me on friday for an informal meeting, but they took notes, and told me he has to be evaluated. They gave me a letter with a list that makes him sound pretty bad, including being unaware of/disinterested in his surroundings and unable to understand/ talk about his feelings. So he is bored, in a new place around a bunch of strangers band those are bad behaviors? Also a couple things that we work on bc he is a boy and five.
      Czar, I think what you describe happens a lot. They want compliant zombies.

        They did that with my older grandson. One teacher’s answer to an antsy kid was to keep him in during recess. Really intelligent, no? In fact, they bullied my DD and SIL into drugging him for a while. Thank God that ended!

        Anyway, he’s an honor student hs graduate, who is now in his first year of college. What do they know?

          The only saving grace is this is a private school. I contacted 3 lcsw who specialize in kids but no return calls back yet. The school district also does testing and I was told we do not have to allow it into his permanent file. And it takes 3 days. He is definitely impulsive and it gets him in trouble, but obviously not autistic or adhd, add.
          The only thing I circle around if theres really a label is a sensory processing disorder.
          “They” usually dont know everything.
          Mr gil very angry, stressed, implied its my fault. Ive got a lot to take care of.
          I hope your ggs improves quickly!

        Sounds like a bureaucratic response wherein they’re taking their problem and trying to make it your problem. Most schools are overwhelmed so the more parents they can convince to do the work the better it is for them.
        First off, keep every piece of paper they give you and make detailed notes of what they say. Do not get flustered, make them wait as you write down notes. You can ask that notes of what was said/decided be informally made and signed by all concerned before the meeting adjourns so that there’s no doubt or confusion about what was said – that comes in very handy. What ain’t written never happened. If you have to make your own memo for record do so, time and date it and note who was in attendance.
        It would be good to get him medically evaluated to ensure an underlying problem like eyesight or hearing isn’t in play. If you suspect a behavior issue lik ADHD get bhim tested by someone who’s certified to diagnose ADHD, that way if the school’s tester doesn’t find ADHD there’s an issue you can pursue there. The school isn’t obliged to accept an outside expert’s diagnosis of ADHD but if the school’s contracted service says there isn’t any ADHD you have a reason for…other…actions. Get me? Also, if you give them an outside diagnosis as you push the issue of his being tested by the school’s service you are less likely to get a ‘get rid of this person’ finding. I know, I’m really distrustful but that’s been my life experience with bureaucrats.
        I’ll pass this to Czarina when she gets home, she does the specifics I just do the thug work.

          Just had a full physical and optometry exam, no problems noted beyond clarity on a few words for speech. Yeah everything noted after that meeting. I hope I get a call back from one of these people today. Thx Czar. Good luck to you too.

                Professional bureaucrats look for any opening. When we first got GGS’s IEP all planned and put in place it was about half way thru a school year. At the beginning of the next year the school informed us that somehow ALL of his file had been ‘lost’ accidentally during the summer. We’d have to start over again.
                Reply was that we had copies of EVERYTHING and if they’d give us the district’s legal team’s address we’d be happy to have our lawyer send them a copy. They agreed to go ahead with our copies.
                Sometime you get the feeling they’re just testing you to see how serious you are.

                Communicate as much as you can through emails. That gives you an inviolable record. I am currently in a situation that requires documentation, what I do after a fruitless or fruitful meeting is a follow-up email.

        Try going to: https://www.greatschools.org/ and see how your particular school is rated and how it compares to others in your area. Some of the stats are a year or so old but they’re still a viable metric, schools don’t change that fast.

          His school is private, not rated. So to be tested, i have to take the letter to our public school he would attend , who then submits it to the district and wait up to 2 weeks for their response. Then they test him over 3 days.

          That gives good basic info for a start. Make sure you look at the comments. The HS where I live gets a 10 (I think because it has a 99% graduation rate), but there definitely are problems. One comment is: “The High School is fine if your child is Average to Above Average. In fact, the grading system is set up to help the average child get higher grades. They can retake tests if the score is below 75%. The homework load is quite heavy. But many teachers rarely check the homework, so the child gets credit for doing the work, not necessarily doing it correctly. Honors students have an enormous homework load. The humanities dept. is dominated by young, inexperienced teachers who are overwhelmed by combined Lit/Soc. Studies classes. Sometimes with as many 40+ kids in those classes. Finally, If your child has an IEP, like mine, be prepared for hair-pulling bureaucracy. I don’t know one parent of a high school student with an IEP who is satisfied with SPED. I recommend finding another district if your child has an IEP.”

        “They want compliant zombies.” – Exactly. They are lazy. Teachers have not been taught common sense and how to THINK. My friend earned her Maser’s in Education, and did not use it because it was just -> follow the DOE/teachers union plan. You don’t have to KNOW anything.

        I know you have the fortitude to do this and to be his advocate.

        I’m not sure if you said whether or not homeschooling is an option for you?

          I can do a lot, but my husband thinks its bad for him “to be isolated with his mother” and he thinks my contributions have minimal value unless I bring in a paycheck. …I know….😐
          The public schools in our district are better than average, but…CA. So, charter school, one 1 in area, offered him a slot, but private school is under contract and a very advanced academic achiever. See the position? I will homeschool if thats what it takes. Hes smart, not a vsg, but has yuge potential.

            All I can do about the Mr. is pray. Menagerie may have some good advice, she has really good insight into the raising of boys and the minds of men.

            I was somewhat isolated while raising my girls, even while surrounded by friends, some things are very difficult to bring up and it makes people very uncomfortable when they see need.

            You have everything you need to do this. Don’t feel alone, know that many of us have been through similar struggles. Hold on to the goodness.

        Evaluating is good. Ask that someone be required to sit in his classes to observe him during a school day, not just take the word of school staff. Make sure they give you copies of all original documents as well as the reports they submit. Assure they get an evaluation by a certified audiologist, including testing for Central Auditory Processing Disorder. Being able to understand/talk about his feelings is possibly just immaturity, but he needs provessional evalution. If he has Medicaid or private insurance your “outside the school district” second opinion may cost little or nothing. You may alternatively be able to demand a second opinion the school has to pay for. Ask around among families with kids with differences or on the web to find someone in your area who has already done this & acts as an advocate & support for families new to the system. We had a neighbor with a kid with “differences” who had been through the whole wringer and now had a job paid for by the state dept of education to assist other parents as an advocate /ombudsman.

        Gil, I am sorry to be so late on this, but I do have a couple of suggestions. First, I encourage you to take notes if you need to on everything czar and czarina are doing for their GGS. I also bet they would not mind at all if you have specific questions to ask them when you encounter difficult situations.

        First, take a deep breath and reassure yourself. Educators are dealing with hundreds of kids every day. They, at this point in the American education experience, are often dealing with problems and trying to teach to pass tests. And they also are human, which means for most of us in a given day that we want the easiest way out.

        They are bound to teach every child, but they like little Susie brainchild who never gets out of her seat and always does what the teacher says, learns easily, and presents no problem.

        My oldest son was diagnosed with ADHD back when it was first called ADD and teachers really just wanted to poof these kids into perfect automatons. Or out of their clss. They were absolutely angry and accusing and unco-operative and I was young, stupid, intimidated. Do NOT be intimidated.

        You are the expert on your son, you are his advocate, you are in charge of EVERYTHING. You also must absolutely keep up with things like czar pointed out czarina doing. This is critical.

        First, at five is it, his age? There is a good chance your son is going to settle in and excel. I hardly think a couple weeks of school, a new and very different experience for him, is enough time to come to the conclusion that he has any problem with behavior or adjusting, just that he is taking a little time to do so. Boys are not school settled and mature at five.

        Second, do not let your own opinions be made by what teachers say. Try to dig deeper, observe factual situations, and always ask for specific examples of behavior they say is problematic. Hold them to that. Don’t let them be vague bitches who bitch.

        Be polite, professional (the more professional like czarina’s example the better), but if you are going to do this alone, be czar the enforcer too. They will respect the first, fear the second, and both are nesesarry.

        Finally, I have thought about this part hard, and I’m going to opine here only because I think you and your son really need this.

        You do not have to accept things as they are given to you at shcool. You also do not have to accept and not encourage change to the role you indicate your husband has chosen to take. He needs to be a part of the hard parts of his son’s life in this regard, and you can tackle that and tell him so.

        There are going to be so many times in a boy’s life that it is critical for him to have hard things from dad. Support, encouragement at down times, but discipline, intervention on his behalf. A million things running through my mind that my husband did and boy, did it matter then, and more importantly, long term.

        Do not let him blame you. Aside from the unfairness of that comment, it allows him a passivity that is not in your son’s best interest.

        This is not an all on battle. I am not suggestion anger or confrontation. There will be times for plain speaking and then other times for subtle encouragement.

        Once my husband asked me if I couldn’t handle the constant complaints from school, the meetings, the barrage of almost daily problems. I suggested he should take over, and that I was going in to the office the following morning and changing the primary contact to call. That handled a difficulty with him, and it also was very influential with my son.

        Another time I began to be concerned and feel guilty because we never had supper together, at the table, sharing our day. My husband got home late, and the boys usually ate earlier in front of tv. I felt powerless to fix it, but sure it was important.

        One day I thought “If I, the mother, don’t have power in this situation, why not?” Then I realized that I was thinking in ruts, in traps. I had to take control, not wish for it. So I gave the boys another snack, and told everyone we were cutting off the television and eathing together as a family, which we almost always did after.

        No one complained, or at least not seriously, and we enjoyed and needed our time together. What had been a real struggle for me was really my own fear and lack of confidence.

        These two stories are not to suggest my ways of dealing with those moments are a cure all every problem answers. They are just two things I dealt with that were big issues to me, and hopefully an illustration that we sometimes can’t see the best and clearest way to deal with things in the moment. Step back, assess your own ability to act. Take time.

        As czar and czarina have done, if this situation is ongoing, and I emphasize again that it may very well just be initial adjustment to school, then assess what your end goal needs to be for your son at this period in time, perhaps for the school year, perhaps for a month. Come up with a plan, with the teachers, school counselers, etc, and hold them to it.

        Don’t feel ambushed. Never let the discussion be vague. Make it clear that supportable facts are what you will deal with and YOU point everyone in the same direction and hold them accountable for the journey. You follow up. Let them know their performance is also being monitored.

        Good luck, and stay positive. If there is anything in the world I wish, it is that I had not been so young, unprepared, and timid when I dealt with this. If I had it to do over, I would have been on their end of the playing field taking them on.

        I feel sorry for those parents with kids that don’t even lift a finger. They just sit there in the middle of the road and let the bus run over them.
        What’s going on with the schools and their children is just so blatant that I can’t see why they aren’t standing in front of the district offices with torches and pitchforks in hand.

How many of these kids come from one parent homes, or 2 parent homes where both parents are either druggies or the opposite – working 2 jobs each to keep thier heads above water.

          My friend’s family is from the middle east. She said a certain ‘protected group’ has about 12 kids to each family, and just pushes even the little ones out of the house to wander the streets. They don’t care about them.

              Exactly what worries me. They are not only our teachers and gov’t employees, but nurses, healthcare workers, bus and truck drivers etc. What’s next, lowering the standards for commercial pilots because there is such a shortage?

                We’ve been dumbing down the country ever since we discovered that ‘freeing’ the ‘oppressed’ didn’t mean they wanted a seat at the table, just to be able to eat at it.
                Leftists internationally couldn’t compete with our productivity and our educational outcomes so they joined hands with our homegrown lefties to drag us down to their levels.

                Speaking of truck drivers/delivery persons. Yesterday I had a door tag saying I missed a Fedex delivery that required a signature (case of wine). I was sitting within 15 feet of the door all morning. He must have tiptoed up to the door and left the note; probably because it was pouring rain.

                I called Fedex and told them that not only had I been home, close to the door, but that I have a doorbell and a dog. No knock, no doorbell, no dog barking. Wonder why?

                I got the delivery today.

      Very interesting. I wonder about dems pushing not to release now. Releasing it right before the election would really push repubs to vote.

      What worries me is this: The demoncrats seem very sure about taking control again. I WONDER IF THEY HAVE REFINED THEIR VOTER FRAUD. Voter Fraud fell off the radar right after the election.

    A strange thing just happened…as with most of you, the whole push to destroy Judge Kavanaugh–and through his destruction, the lives of his family–is so very disturbing to me. So I was looking up Bible verses in the “poster” form and chose Hebrews 10:30-31, found a good photo background and font, hit on it to copy for posting, and up popped a poster with the same verse but different photo from what I had chosen…

    Coincidence? Maybe. But what an appropriate coincidence!

      As I often do, I go to Bible Gateway and choose several translations to get a different slant and thus feeling of various verses…this is the same verse in the VOICE version….

      “For we know the God who said, ‘Vengeance belongs to Me–I will repay,’ also said, ‘The Eternal One will judge His people.’ It is truly a frightening thing to be on the wrong side of the living God.”
