I’d never heard of the song until Duvall sang it in “Tender Mercies.” Hard to believe Duvall is 87 now.
My oldest nephew was only 19 at the time the film was released. He was temporarily living with me in California. Being he was a big fan of country music, I took him to see the film, after which he said, “Auntie, that’s the best movie I’ve ever seen.” Seems like yesterday sometimes.

He is one of my favorite actors. Not a serious role, I know, but how could you absolutely not love him in Second Hand Lions? He and Michael Caine were awesone together.
I don’t like most movies and I am always reluctant to watch them but my husband threw fits until he got me to watch that one. I sure was glad I did.

We went out for mexican food the other day. Kiddo’s go to is mac n cheese with peas but he eats what I give him. This time though going out he was super nice and asked if he could please have a taco bowl. As in “I want a President Trump taco bowl.” They made him one. Boy was he excited. I took pictures. A POTUS super fan at 5. Too funny.

A wet and very humid one, every window’s heavily sweating on the outside. Nearlt 3″ of rain yesterday -not bad for a 20% chance – they’re saying 40% today so we’re getting the rubber rafts out jes in case…

Same thing happened in Texas at my son’s b’day. Zero chance so he set up an outside tent to add seating space. Sky turned dead black, heavy winds blew in and a deluge fell. That’s why we calls ’em ‘wearherguessers’.

At the same news website is the latest on the husband who killed his pregnant wife and two daughters…1) he was having an affair with a co-worker; 2) says he strangled his wife when he snapped upon seeing his wife killing one of his daughters. That can soon be disproved via forensics, of course; 3) he’d asked her for a divorce. What kind of mind kills anyone, but especially his own children!
This is so reminiscent of the guy who worked as director of security for a TV evangelist and shocked everyone when he killed his wife and two little boys.
Oh, my…Lord Jesus, keep us safe from harm. May we be free from the sins which lead us to destruction.

Vid description: This well-known harvest hymn might appear to come from the English countryside, but it has rather different origins. It is the “Peasant’s Song” from a sketch by Matthias Claudius in Paul Erdmann’s Fest (Hamburg, 1782), depicting a harvest thanksgiving in a North German farmhouse. It was based upon a peasants’ song which he heard sung at the home of one of the farmers. Claudius was for some time an atheist, but later renewed his Christian faith. At the time of writing this hymn he was editor of the local paper in Hesse Darmstadt, where he was also a Commissioner of Agriculture.

We did sight words and I make him spell then use in a sentence. Then reading with writing and he liked it. He still looks at me to guess an answer but I make him sound it out or give clues. I plan on getting him slightly ahead for kindergarten. Not sure how advanced they get.

He may just get ahead of them. That’s what happened with my daughter. She was doing well in our daily reading sessions, then all of a sudden it “all came together”, and she could read just about anything.

But it’s not only curmudgeons eager to complain about the younger generation who ought to find the survey of interest. For despite the recent prominence of flat-earthery among musicians and athletes, YouGov’s survey seems to have been the first systematic attempt to assess the American population’s views on the shape of the Earth.
Moreover, the results raised a number of compelling questions that deserve attention. For example, why is the scientifically established view on the shape of the Earth less popular among younger respondents (according to YouGov) when the scientifically established view on the history of life and on the cause of global warming have been, in poll after poll, more popular among younger respondents?
So, anyone concerned about the understanding and acceptance of science in contemporary society—like us, a psychology professor at the Air Force Academy and a long-time staffer at the National Center for Science Education—might be expected to be fascinated by the YouGov survey. Unfortunately, when we investigated the details, the result was as much confusion as clarity and as many questions as answers.
When we asked YouGov for the actual response frequencies categorized by age, a public relations representative provided a spreadsheet with data. But it was impossible to reconcile the data with the original report’s results for a number of technical reasons, most importantly because the spreadsheet’s data were more numerous, reflecting 10,374 respondents as opposed to the report’s 8,215…
