      About 2:10 is a picture of Doug’s Body Shop. That building is less than 1/2 mile from me on Woodward Ave.

      Doug’s was a really cool bar/restaurant that had booths inside car bodies, and a good jazz bar on the lower level.

        It’s always fun to recognize some landmark when you’re watching a film or vid. It can be a bit sad, too, when a building which was a central location in the story has been torn down in reality. I’d imagine if you’ve lived near Detroit for a long time, it’s shocking to see the change from its prosperous days. I’ve read there is quite a bit of revitalization. Is that true?

        That happens a lot in Los Angeles and they say it’s progress. In many ways I find the old physical L. A. much more attractive than the excessively tall buildings and ugly architecture of the present. I love watching YouTubes of the city in 1940s or 50s and then remember where things were in the 60s when I moved there.

          When I was little, there were still streetcars in Detroit, and peak population was in 1961, I think.

          Detroit used to be called the Paris of the Midwest, believe it or not. According to Wikipedia, it is still regarded as a major cultural center; Detroit is known for its contributions to music (from the Motown genre to jazz, rock, and techno) and as a repository for art, architecture and design.

          There is a renaissance of sorts going on in the Downtown area, but the city will probably never regain what it has lost. You see the abandoned homes and businesses, because the city has lost almost half of its population. Of course, most of those people just moved to the suburbs!

            It’s awful to see once-lovely homes falling to pieces. I remember a video from about ten years ago or more where roving bands of completely wild dogs were living in many abandoned places. Makes me sick.

            One of my relatives was shocked to hear that the literacy rate was so low in Detroit…third world scores. Democrat rule is wonderful, right? Hopefully #WalkAway is ongoing there.

      The other day my driver and I were talking about the increase in traffic and population in our area. He mentioned that he’d just looked up the crime stats and in one year the overall crime rate went up over 35%! If true, it’s due in no small part to drugs of all types.

      Colorado is having an uptick in weed related accidents. The original weed smokers are apparently teed off at the newbies who have come just for legal weed and they’re tired of “lazy” people befouling their once fine state. Some are even moving back to Illinois 😏.

    Last night we had a wicked wind storm that blew through and brought more Canadian wildfire smoke into the area. The sky this morning is reminiscent of dirty dishwater but because of the particles in the air, the sunrise this morning was magnificent. The sun wasn’t yellow, nor orange but a deep blood red and it was stunning.

    I posted this at CTH also. Thomas is right on the money, IMO. Being of the opinion that minutely going back over your life and picking apart happenings and reactions, dwelling upon them, isn’t the answer, his advice is praiseworthy….
