Many years ago I think I was 18, I saw a really cute guy in a republican campaign office so I decided to volunteer 🙂 !

He looked just like Jonathon Pryce for “Something Wicked this Way Comes”.

After the campaign headquarters closed for the night he asked me if I wanted to go to a local restaurant John’s Garage, (Stella have you been there? It was by Ford City) so of course I said yes.

He had a little orange Corvette Stingray.

      Fun 🙂 !

          • Mine was too long & way too long getting over! However, as that song says “I’ll bless the broken road that brought me here to you!” Both my husband & I are thankful for the convoluted journeys we had to get to the place where we can share life with our best friend…& we thank God daily for the precious kids he’s blessed us with!

I think getting to drive that Vette was the pinnacle of that relationship…& that was our first date!

Oy, my guy was one of those “regretted” relationships, too. He was supposed to be out of town on business. I was invited to a party at this huge house in L.A., lots of people…almost like standing up on the subway train. And in who should walk with a dame on his arm? He saw me and gave out with a funny little smile, ushered his date into another room and I left. That was the end of that. D.u.p.l.i.c.i.t.y!

              • Sorry you went through that. Mine was a fairly similar experience in that he never “broke up” with me but was seeing someone else at the same time. I found out when the girl I used to work with in a church’s counseling center called me & said “I shouldn’t be telling you this but then I thought what would I want someone to do if they knew this about me…(heavy sigh)”…then she told me that the same guy I was signed up for premarital counseling with was also signed up with another girl on the same list…Live & learn (& learn how to forgive & try not to see betrayal wherever you look nor stay immersed in anger)…

Ha ha! As most here at Stella’s Place know I was a wild child, I went out on a first date with a guy when I was maybe 19 (?) he had a sweet convertible, (I have no idea what kind of car it was though) anyhow we had been drinking and I said I wanted to drive his car, he said no because I was tipsy (understatement) so after a few words I said it was best that he take me home because I felt like if I couldn’t drive his car then I might feel like walking on the roof (I had very high heels on) now a wise man would have taken my little punk ass home and tossed me out the door. No he tried to reason with me 🙄. Obviously a big mistake.

Anyhow he finally drove me home and I said goodbye, adios, sayonara, but sure enough the next day he calls me to ask me out again.

              SMH.

              Why?

              • I think the Lord has a pretty big soft spot for the Wild Child! I had more of the problem of the guy Not calling, even we he said he would. Ironically my daughter assumes that the guy won’t call, even if he says he will. She even goes a step further to say that if he did call she’d probably miss it anyway! She has a cell & only uses it to send texts (she loads it with minutes & can send 3 texts for the same cost as 1 minute of calling) so it’s usually turned off.

I was the pathetic chic who was so hopeful that her Ex-boyfriend (who she Knew still loved her but had too many personal issues to work out) would still call that she pulled the phone into the bathroom when she showered just in case that desperately sought call might come…at least I didn’t constantly call or stalk him like one of my friends did with her Ex–Yikes!

We’ve all come a long way Baby!!!

                  Growing up is an adventure.

I was the type of girl who broke up with a guy and then called him after I found out that he would be out of town for two weeks to ask if my friend could borrow his car for two and he was the type of guy who said yes 🙄.

Anyhow he left his notebook in his car and had written a poem about me “Cyanide Sally” 😂😂 (He used my real name but I don’t want to put if on a public board.

I started reading it out loud but not rolling on the floor because I was in a car 😂, my friend was laughing so hard she had to pull over.

                  Life is funny.

Thanks Valerie, the circuitous path to God and sanity 🙂 !

Funny thing is that by nature I am very much an A type personality, I like my ducks in a row, I like to be in control, I’d rather drive than be driven anywhere any day of the week, but life’s circumstances caused me to accept opening endings and disorganization and actually rather than tolerate it or be very confused by it as I was as a child I now enjoy the looseness of possibilities.

I’m not really sure if that sentence makes sense but I hope it does.

When you are a child your family defines you, defines your perception of who you are, as a child I was gifted with always knowing I wasn’t who I was told I was – that I wasn’t what surrounded me. Another concept that is hard for me to articulate. But it is something that saved me.

I love my family to pieces and I accept that some of us are more broken than others, I accept that I have been carried and that I must carry people. Life for me is that simple.

                    Or simpler yet,

Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God….

I have a very clear memory of being in AA and hearing the 4th step “Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

I had as much familiarity at the age of 24 with sanity as I did with God which was close to zero. For some reason it pissed people off to high heaven when I would say “If we’re a bunch of drunks what type of sanity are we trying to get back to? Why is the word “back” in step 4? I mean if what we thought was sane led us to alcoholism aren’t we missing something?

Man most people got angry. It no longer mystifies me why I made people angry but it does sadden me, so many people try to replace one addiction with another, they didn’t want to hear that the problem started not with the first drink that we picked up but rather with the reason that we wanted to disappear. That simple truth is just too overwhelming for most people so instead of healing we run in circles and convince ourselves that motion means progress. At the time I knew that they were wrong for getting angry and I knew I was right so it didn’t bother me that they would get mad at me, that “knowing” was a gift, a grace and I knew it back then even if I didn’t understand what grace was at the time.

Anyhow, sorry to be long winded, you just started me thinking about the journey of life and what we as individuals consciously and unconsciously allow to define us as human beings.

I’m a firm believer in forgiveness being a main ingredient in healing and living.

                  • Beautifully & profoundly stated! Thank you for sharing these fascinating insights from your personal journey.

“the problem started not with the first drink that we picked up but rather with the reason that we wanted to disappear. ”

There is tremendous wisdom here…& it’s hard to Really face reality for so many of us. The more painful that full view in the mirror is the more we prefer the funhouse version of reflective surfaces to enable our own distortions (self-deceptions?)…

Thank God (literally) that He chose us, covered us, healed us, & freed us! Of course all verbs in the preceding sentence could be stated in all tenses (chooses, is covering, will heal, has been freeing, etc…) The ongoing work & steadfast love is boundless!

  5. Morning all 🙂

Today’s horse is the American Cream Draft. The American Cream Draft is the only historic draft breed developed in America that has survived. The breed originates with a draft mare in Iowa in 1902 simply called Old Granny who consistently had foals with her creamy coat and amber eyes. They are considered a medium heavy-draft, ranging from 15 to 16.3 hands and weighing between 1500 to 2000 pounds with a marked gender difference. They typically have a more refined head than other drafts: a flat profile, wide forehead, smaller muzzle, and tiny ears. Temperament is easily one of their best qualities – quiet, amiable, and willing to partner in work. They are cream in color with pink skin, amber eyes, white manes and tails, and occasional white markings.

During the 1930s, cream draft horses became popular in Iowa, but just as the American Cream breed was becoming established, the market for draft horses collapsed. Mechanization of agriculture meant that the majority of workhorses went to slaughter. The breeding of draft animals nearly ceased. Fortunately, a few people held onto their Creams and thus maintained a slender genetic base, which was the foundation for the breed’s survival. (There is a difference of opinion depending on which website you go to about the DNA purity of the horses), however they are in jeopardy with only 450 surving worldwide, 99% in The USA. (I was surprised at the number of horse breeds close to extinction inthe US – very sad!). ~ from a variety of websites

Below we have a painting I really like. I doubt this is an American Cream, but it’s a nice painting, very well painted – “One of the Family” by FC Cotman:

here is a lovely example of the breed – in many pictures they were a bit dirty from working. This was the only recently washed & brushed pic I could find from a reputable site

Here is what is listed as a Cream Draft Mare & foal – it may be because of the pink. I can’t see if the foal’s eyes are white

If swe leave troops there they’ll bleed us just as the Vietnamese Communists did because they know we can’t take casualties, the Democrats are more interested in embarrassing the Republicans than beating an American enemy and the MSM and Hollyork crowd are butt-kissing cowards who’d rather risk a sharia US than risk having the little bubble worlds they live in go ‘pop’.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
