I have taken the day trip on this railroad, boarding in Antonito, CO, traveling to Chama, NM (a 64-mile trip), and back by van.
The other big railroad in this area is the Durango & Silverton NGRR (see tomorrow’s post). I’ve been on that one too, several times, and I recommend both trips!

So, apparently a green space alien from Hell just won Ohio.
He really is from Hell, MI. He really said his parents are space aliens.
I’m absolutely loving the Dem implosion about this. If you read the twitter comments, the Dems are saying that the Green Party is only getting more Repubs elected, and that it’s Russians (natch). No, Dems are getting Repubs elected, by their insane actions both in media and on the streets. They are so un-self-aware it’s worthy of ridicule.
They keep acting the way they do, Trumpslide 2020 is a surety.
Every turd on the roof of a cop car is another 10,000 Trump votes.
Every brick thrown through a business window is another 10,000 Trump votes.
Every death wish or abject hatred expressed on Twitter is another 10,000 Trump votes.
Keep it up, Dems! We love you! We don’t even need to work to get him re-elected!

Q: Why can’t our armed forces, NATO, the UN, etc, quickly take care of the fires in CA?
I don’t get it. It seems to be that big of an emergency.
Not that I give a hoot about CA, philosophically, but still. It seems to be that our armed forces would be well-equipped to put out fire, and quickly. Also, I thought that NATO and the UN were mutual protective agencies? Are they not? Are there fires in Europe right now? Why don’t they come help? Otherwise why do we pay them a dime? A private company put out Saddam’s oil-well fires in Iraq. Nobody on earth can do this in CA, where we have actual civilization? I don’t get it.

Wooly, the reason you “don’t get it” is because you are not basing your perspective on reality..
They don’t want to help.
Their policies and procedures allow them to provide assistance as they choose, to whom they choose.
Their behavior is no different than obama’s when he delayed/refused to provide emergency services to Texas some years ago – I think that was fires, too. I may be mistaken about that part.
NATO and the UN were designed for military threats, as I understand it, not for natural disasters.
The UN already has too many sticky fingers in our business – up to and including attempting to be a presence in “election oversight” and matters involving gun regulations. I am absolutely opposed to thinking that they should be invited or allowed to enter into our domestic emergency services. Good grief, they would love that. Talk about Stockholm Syndrome.
The biggest problem in California is (1) their governor and (2) their environmental practices [refusing to allow smaller burns and burns of undergrowth as a regular matter. If those two elements were on sensible footing, illegals, fires, budgets, human poop on streets, etc. etc. would each be a smaller footprint. Until those elements are dealt with, stupid thinking and inability to comprehend consequences will continue to drive major events, including out of control fires.
Stupid-thinking and inability to comprehend consequences are also the driving forces behind serious events in Oregon.

Mornin’ Stella, everyone. In the last four months the use of the railway system has exploded. Huge numbers of oil tankers and Chinese marked Freightliner trailers are riding the rails now and I’d say there are over twice as many trains running on a daily basis as there were just two months ago.
I’ve got a lovely view of the trains, so thought I’d share one of the trains from this morning.

Oh, litenmaus, the instant I saw that, it tweaked my heart even before I knew it was you who posted it. Oh, my – I KNOW that scene.
I was just scrolling down to the bottom here to make a comment about all the wonderful photos that are being posted by everyone. Goodness, they are a retreat and a refreshing for my heart, they are.
Stella, I absolutely love the one at the top this morning – that is exactly like views I saw as a teenager when we would be driving in the early morning hours from Minot, ND to our farm in NE Montana – on a day when my parents would have come to my dear Dakota Lutheran Academy to collect me at the end of the school year – a 360 mile round trip drive it was, so sometimes we would pull into a short approach road along the railroad to let my Dad sleep a bit before continuing the long drive home, to get there in time to milk the cows – and sometimes I would awake to exactly this scene.
Photography and music — – beautiful sights and music have always been such a blessing but now with the internet, access and options to share and see such beautiful things all the time. Sometimes it’s almost a little overwhelming.
I have not ridden the trains in Colorado but that needs to go on my to-do list. Maybe if I put a bug in #1 son’s ear, he can plan some extended vacation around my next visit there. Are those trains seasonal – to be safely done only at certain times?
Just beautiful – thank you to everyone who shares so many beautiful things.

Here is the website for the Cumbres & Toltec RR:
https://cumbrestoltec.com/
I really like the Durango & Silverton RR. They have trains all year around. They are my chosen railroad for tomorrow. Here’s their website:
The town of Silverton is a gem. I haven’t been there in a long time, but the people were so friendly. We found a rock shop that a man had in his house, and he took personal checks in payment! Silverton is in a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains, and lots of opportunities for jeeping. It’s very near where that EPA mine spill into the Animas river occurred. The railroad follows the river most of the route. The name of the river is so romantic, I think. One theory is that the river’s original name was “Rio de las Animas Perdidas” (River of Lost Souls).

I remember the years when there were shops with nothing but hats and other head coverings, and every department store had a large separate section of wonderful hats, some with veils. AND THEY GAVE YOU A FREE HAT BOX! I had perhaps 30 hats or more to wear to church or just out shopping.
One of the first antiques I purchased was a Victorian hall tree so I could display eight or ten hats and would change the selection with the seasons. I still have that hall tree but none of the hats of those early years, but do have maybe 50 modern hats but NO FREE BOXES.

I finally got a call back from the vet about the growth in Foxy’s ear. It is cancerous. She said it does appear to be a fast growing one. I’m going to have to make some decisions. She is looking into the options for me. One would be an operation to remove a lot of the material around the growth, which would include an MRI. This could cost up to $5000. It could add 3 years possibly to her life. A smaller operation which would be much cheaper could possibly add 9 months to her life. She is about 13 now, and probably only has 5 more years left anyway.
Also, quality of life has to be factored in. The time it takes to heal from these operations and whatever chemo or medication has to be taken can make the quality of life poor. I don’t want her to suffer, no matter what.
The really hard part is, if you saw her, you might think she is a puppy. When we took our walk this morning, she ran almost the whole way. She had to stop and wait for me, but then would run again.

This is a hard decision, but I’m sure that you will make the right one for you. 13 is a pretty good age for a dog, really. It will be difficult no matter what you decide.
I lost my Stella before her 14th birthday, spent about $2,000 on her care in a 3-month period, and she was miserable in the end. I can’t help but think that I made the decision to prolong her life more for me than for her, or out of guilt. I loved that dog so much.

Quality of life, age, and chasing the cancer around from treatment to treatment are all the things you have to weigh. Im sorry she has cancer and i hope you can be ok with the decision you make.😗

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
