Last state this week is California! So much to see there, for sure, but right now California is plagued by wild fires, and some of the attractions are closed, including Yosemite National Park. My daughter is there right now, and Yosemite was on their list but, alas, that won’t happen.

Yosemite is, I think, one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. Some other great places are many ocean spots along Highway 1, and the beautiful redwoods.

    This is an excellent documentary about the man who took those remarkable photographs at the time of King Tut’s burial chamber discovery…so if you have an extra 60 minutes hanging around, it’s worth a view….

        I got to visit Lake Tahoe. Usually I do not like heavily populated or touristy areas, but I loved Tahoe. Also got to go to Death Valley on that trip, and I loved it too.

        We were supposed to go to Yosemite, but two Southern gals had no idea that the passes were closed in April (which is basically summer here) and of course we had to turn back. So we just kept on going downhill until we got to Death Valley.

          That reminds me of the time two of my friends who grew up and have lived their lives in Florida, went to Colorado to see, I think it was the Tutankhamen exhibit. It was in the late fall and I insisted my friend take my coat, scarf, and gloves which she kept insisting she wouldn’t need. When they arrived in the airport, they had asked to rent a small SUV and the guy said they could never make it up the mountain unless they had a full sized SUV. They looked at each other and said, “Mountain?” Both of them are under 5 ft tall and had never driven a full sized car. It started snowing and they had to drive up the mountain in the snow and in the dark. They were terrified with the mountain and no railing. They did not know that the place they had rented was on top of the mtn. I had tried to warn them.

    Downtown Los Angeles – photographer is shooting from the south (probably somewhere in Culver City). As you can see, L.A. is in a valley with the San Gabriel mountain range’s Mt. San Antonio (commonly called Mt. Baldy) as backdrop.


    The two-lane highway that goes up the mountainside which can get VERY bumper-to-bumper at times.

    This is what happened in the hostage situation in Trader Joes. I haven’t seen anything on the MSM about this. I usually just watch FOX but am surprised about the details.

    A 65-year-old Wyoming man was in critical condition after being pulled from a rough Lake Michigan at Grand Haven State Park early Sunday afternoon.

    Emergency crews responded just after noon, when Ottawa County Central Dispatch received multiple calls of a man in distress.

    The man went under the water before police arrived, but conservation officers organized beachgoers into a human chain and one of those chains found the man within a short time after the call, said Sgt. Lee Adams of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety.

    Police and paramedics were performing CPR on the man after he was pulled from the water.

    Luke Nordlund of Grand Rapids was one of the visitors who joined the human chain.

    “Probably 30-40 people formed the chain, but had to split into two sections because it was getting too deep,” Nordlund said.

    He added that it was the second chain of people who found the man and pulled him to shore.

    Who has had kugel? I’d heard of it, but never knew what it was. So, apparently this recipe is quite different from the usual. I can’t decide whether or not I’d like this. So, if any of you are familiar with kugel, I’d appreciate an opinion.
