The state of Utah is the “fourth corner”, and you shouldn’t miss it. So much natural beauty!

Arches National Park, Zion National Park, Great Salt Desert and Lake, and Monument Valley (shared with Arizona).

Utah is on my list for sure. I always loved arizona but havent been for several years. Wyoming, montana…so many places to visit. So beautiful. Ive never been to the Redwoods here in CA or north of san francisco even. With kiddo getting bigger, Ive given him a bit of a travel bug. Sooner than later a good vacation would be nice. He did ask me yesterday if I wanted to visit Russia!

  4. Morning Everyone! 🙂
(Have to leave early tomorrow so posting tonight).

It’s our last day of the Blaschka & Beach series. We are ending with some of my favorites – and a little surprise in my “reply” comment. Today’s painting is Hilda Cowan’s illustration from “The Adventures Of Willy And Nilly” book:

First we have a Lucernaria auricula fabricus

    then a Rosacea cymbiformis:

and an Apolemia uvaria aka String or Colonial Jellyfish which can reach up to 50 feet in length:

    • One of my favorites is the Physophora hydrostatica magnifica or Hula Skirt Siphonophore. Here is a picture with both a black & white background to see it better:

Here is a close-up of detail:

and here is the photo being taken of this Blaschka art masterpiece – and also the surprise:

They are so small! It must be insanely difficult to get all that detail in such a small piece! I looked at hundreds of these, imaging them larger, before I saw this photo.

Here is a photo of an exhibition case showing some of the pieces I have hi-lighted in this series:

      • I’m just going to pop my Caturday pics in here because they go with this subject. The 1st is Cat in the Moon by NeonGnats:

        and:

        Have great day everyone! 🙂
Meant to compliment Nyet on great BF yesterday – all my favorites!
Great pics today as well – amazing beauty!

P.S. The cymbiformis was shown with a different name. It is interesting to note that sometimes the names do not necessairly match photos from one specimen to another and to what scientific sites call them. You’d think Harvard & Cornell would check this, but I wonder if the names were altered over the period of 100 years.

This is about the craziest story I’ve heard. I can buy the guy was on drugs, but I’m not going to buy he buys a bottle of coke and it was drugged with something that just made him have to have sex with a horse.
When he was first caught according to the first witness he said he just wanted to give it a hug, then he said he was on prescription medication that made him do it and now they’ve concocted this crazy story.

That is awesome, I’d do it! Just imagine the feeling of being there surrounded by all that glory. It reminded me of a line from Jesus Christ Superstar, Jesus said to the Pharisees who were berating the crowd for singing by saying “Why waste your breath moaning at the crowd, nothing can be done to stop the shouting, if every tongue were to be stilled the rocks and stones themselves would start to sing, Hosannah….”

I’m back from seeing Death of a Nation. I thought it was really good and I learned a LOT from it. My friend, who is not really political, laughed a lot at the beginning when he showed scenes from the alphabet channels being snarky. She really enjoyed seeing the movie. There were about 20 or 25 people in the theater. That is a lot for early afternoon. They were mostly older.

Let’s have a discussion. Which states are in the South? Yep, I know there are all kinds of criteria, especially if you count those states that seceded from the Union.

History.net lists these states as Confederate states.

    South Carolina
    Mississippi
    Florida
    Alabama
    Georgia
    Louisiana
    Texas
    Virginia
    Arkansas
    Tennessee
    North Carolina

I can go with those, although to most people I know around here, we actually consider Texas as “The West.” You know, cowboys, etc.

    From Britannica:

The South, region, southeastern United States, generally though not exclusively considered to be south of the Mason and Dixon Line, the Ohio River, and the 36°30′ parallel. As defined by the U.S. federal government, it includes Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. The South was historically set apart from other sections of the country by a complex of factors: a long growing season, its staple crop patterns, the plantation system, and black agricultural labour, whether slave or free. White domination of blacks characterized Southern politics and economics from the 17th century and began to yield only after World War II.

I take exception to Arkansas, Delaware, DC (who wants them?), meh on Kentucky, nope on Maryland, Oklahoma (again, cowboys), and West Virginia.

No particularly strong feelings about Arkansas, I reckon since they border Tennessee we could claim ’em. But Delaware? Y’all, they’s Yankees! Real spitfire fightin’ firm on DC. Nobody pawns them off on us.

What about the region of the country you live in? Do most people agree with what is listed for that area?

Midwest always confuses me. I don’t know what else you’d call it, but all those states up against the Canadian border don’t seem “mid” to me.

    Just curious.

Have to disagree with you about Arkansas. My family’s plantation was in Arkansas. They were part of the Confederacy. My family had many members either maimed or killed fighting for the South. So, yeah, Southern.

As for other states, if the individual state considers itself Southern, then it’s Southern.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
