Civil War ship, the Constellation

Today’s selection is not a Sousa march. The Battle Hymn of the Republic, from the verse written by Julia Ward Howe, was written in 1861, and ties the judgment of the wicked at the end of the age (Old Testament, Isaiah 63; New Testament, Rev. 19) with the American Civil War.

My wife has a recipe for John Wayne’s favorite dish that his wife Pilar would make for him, supposedly.

        Duke’s Souffle
1 28 oz can whol green chilis, drained, cut in 1/3rds crosswise, patted dry
(my wife used hatch chiles in her most recent batch, and they were great!)
3-4 cups shredded jack, cheddar, or jalapeno jack cheese, or combination of them.
        3 eggs, separated
1 8 oz can Ro-Tel or Ton-Tel tomatoes with chilis, drained. (Brand names of diced tomatoes)

        Preheat oven to 350 F.
Grease 8 or 9 inch square baking dish with butter.
Layer in the chilis and cheese.
        Beat egg whites until stiff.
Beat yolks and fold into whites.
Gently pour eggs over chilis and cheese, covering them, and ooze through with a fork.
        Bake 30 minutes.
Sprinkle tomatoes on top, pressing down with a fork.
        Bake 30 minutes more.

        Outrageously delicious

Sounds good. Every coupla years I get some hatch peppers ‘mailed’ to me as they won’t grow here – great stuff. As for Ro-Tel, they’ve been a NOLA staple for years, that Velveeta and Rot-Tel dip the cheese people are all ovedr TV about was a NOLA Mardi Gras sgnature dish foe decades. Gotta use the low heat Ro-Tel for Czarina, anything hotter’n table salt makes her wince.

The #walkaway founder was denied service at a camera shop. The person behind the counter asked him “Aren’t you part of the new Alt-right movement? ” Brandon Straka answered “What?”

The clerk then said “Aren’t you part of the #Walkaway movement”?

      Straka said “Yes.”

Clerk “I can’t sell anything to you.”

Gotta love the emerging #walkaway crowd. Straka said he was frightened when it happened and started shaking out of fear, he will learn to become angry rather than fearful, what a brave man to be as far along the path of escaping his master as he is. Channel that anger Straka and step on their throats.

My response. I’m shocked that he was shocked. Did he not know what that side was doing all this time. Was he really that brain dead until something finally woke him up? I’m not really meaning to put him down, but I am shocked that he didn’t know. Wait until he finds out what the muslims do to gays. I’m sure glad he is now more aware.

Nah, we gotta give this chap a lot of slack he is young, gay, and I believe from NY. He simply did not know there was another way yo be rather than on the liberal plantation.

He was on Facebook or twitter crying when Hillary lost and he thought the world was ending.

Then a friend showed him some video of how the MSM had clipped candidate Trump video and made it appear that Trump was a racist, a homophobe, xenophobic, ect all through trickery of the edit button.

Straka listened. He learned he got out out off the plantation. One of the final nails was someone showed him a clip of how CNN edited black people out of Trump rallies.

          And #Walkaway was born.

That he was fearful when it happened is what I find terribly hopeful. This cat is the real deal, a true dyed in the wool liberal who never questioned the purity or moral superiority of liberalism, until he did. and when he did he had to #walkaway.

There is great hope out there Aus!!!

His movement is brilliant and it is going to be devastating to the Left! Just wait until he and Milo have a sit down!

  6. Morning Everyone 🙂

Just Love The Battle Hymn of the Republic!

Todays painting is “Eight Bells” by Winslow Homer. We have been showing many beautiful ships, but this is one of a small number of paintings showing celestial navigation.

Practical celestial navigation usually requires a marine chronometer to measure time, a sextant to measure the angles, an almanac giving schedules of the coordinates of celestial objects, a set of sight reduction tables to help perform the height and azimuth computations, and a chart of the region. I did not know what an azimuth was so: An azimuth is an angular measurement in a spherical coordinate system. The vector from an observer (origin) to a point of interest is projected perpendicularly onto a reference plane; the angle between the projected vector and a reference vector on the reference plane is called the azimuth. – from wiki

From www navy mil – The use of the bells to mark the time stems from the period when seamen (1) could not afford a personal time piece (i.e. – a watch) and (2) even if they could, they had no idea on how to tell time with such an instrument. The bells mark the hours of the watch in half-hour increments. The seamen would know if it were morning, noon, or night. Each watch is four hours long and the bells are struck. The period from 1600 to 2000 is split into two dog watches. These watches run from 1600 to 1800 and from 1800 to 2000. This alternates the daily watch routine so Sailors on the mid-watch would not have it the second night, and, the split also gives each watchstander the opportunity to eat the evening meal. The end of the watch is considered at 8 bells, hence the saying “Eight Bells and All Is Well.”

This painting shows the clouds from a storm (on right) breaking with the clouds opening (above sextant). The sun highlighted clothing, hand of the navigator, and bright waves prompts the mind to infer open clear skies on the left in the direction the sextant is pointed.

Great posts everyone 🙂 Would love to chat, but have to run. One more, maybe two, sets of relatives coming in over next few weeks! TOG&C is their college-bound children’s emergency contact if they choose to go to college in Northeast.

How far from my comprehension, by degrees, is my LCD screen, or the PC I built like LEGO™, and all its parts, and the memory and graphics and audio cards? All I did was plug all these magic things in and turn it on, to my knowledge. My magic laser mouse, whose workings I will never even hope to understand, works all day, like a 50’s John Deere™. It never quits. For years. One could understand a 50’s John Deere™, though. It wasn’t magic.

And when electricity first made it into our homes, people were afraid of electricity vapors seeping out of plugs …

Those that could afford it were sometimes stymied by it, much like the Dowager Countess and her fear of inhaling electric vapors. “I couldn’t have electricity in the house,” she remarks during the first season. “I wouldn’t sleep a wink. All those vapors seeping about.” And she wasn’t alone in being afraid of the new technology. “People had fears that electricity was going to leak out of the walls, leak out of plug points,” Levine says. “I remember my father saying things like that when I was a tiny girl.” It was this “mysterious, invisible thing that nobody really understood,” she says, and it scared everyone in a new kind of way. And like the Dowager Countess, many were hesitant to see its benefits at first. “Oh, such a glare,” she says while gazing up at an electric chandelier. “I feel as if I were on stage at the Gaiety.”

The entire country isn’t worth one American life.

Remember that Afghan girl with the startling blue eyes which “National Geographic” put on a cover a number of years before 9/11? When the media traced her down and interviewed her after we entered Afghanistan, she said she liked the Taliban, basically indicating she wanted them back.

I understand why we went there initially, but it’d be great if Mattis would have our forces kill as many of the jihadis as possible–a no mercy 2018 summer ROE–and then leave the people to their own devices. It’s awful thinking of what will happen to the Afghans, but if they can’t take care of the problem themselves, then that’s just the way it is.

Let the Saudis handle the Afghan defense assistance.

It’s karma – we put the brakes on Russia sterilizing the dump between ’79 and ’89. That wasn’t because we valued them as a people, it was to keep Russia from getting a deep foothold in the area. I’m not totally against the Russians being bled, they lost 15,000 military – a partial payback for their interference during Vietnam.
Only way this is going to get resolved is for either the Moslems to kill/convert us or we eliminate them. I don’t see either happening as we don’t have the will and they don’t have the firepower so we’ll just continue to bleed each other.
