Schooner ‘American Spirit’ on the Potomac

Today’s Sousa march is a personal favorite of mine, even though it is named after an institution that is not. It is The Washington Post march, written in 1889 by Sousa for an award ceremony that the paper was holding to honor the winners of a children’s essay contest.

Fairy Gardens. I took kiddo to an old farm thats been turned into a botanical garden, shop, restaurant today. They have the beautiful old house turned into a place to make fairy gardens. Kind of a strange use and only downstairs for the little displays. So we started grabbing this n that to put into our garden and I stopped and added up what he had grabbed. Get this: for a terracotta dish, moss, plants, dirt, rocks, and a few figurines, and a fairy door it was going to be $75.
I put everything down and just got a couple little things the went to michaels craft store. Lo and behold tons of figures at a fraction. We are going to salvation army to find a fun dish tommorow. Hes so excited. Fairy gardens….its a thing. 🙄

The coach really should have known better than attempting this journey with the boys and young men in tow when he knew monsoon season was beginning.

I know. It’s just with a little foresight the coach could have avoided the death if this man.

I know, should have, could have, would have. The things we did as kids were pretty wild. the things our parents (my cousin and mine allowed us, as young children to do, were insane). 25 is young but the monsoon season had started, they were going deep deep into the cave, so hindsight is 20/20 but one would hope by 25 foresight would be a little better than it was for this chap. Sadly a 38 year old man is dead because of it, the boys, the coach and others are still in grave danger.

          A sad situation all around.

I have googled and found info on folders, whch I am also having trouble with.It wants to put all my pictures in one folder. Anyhow, so far I have not figured out labels.

Afternoon Mengerie….Here goes…when you’ve imported the image into imgur, don’t click anything, but scroll down the screen and immediately beneath the image you will see very faint lettering in a faded white that is very hard to see. Click and type a description or tag.
Then post your picture to imgur.

If you have already posted the baby pic into imgur, you can still add a description. Double click on the baby picture. The image will appear on half your screen and links fill the other half. Again, very hard to see, but under the image, in blue lettering, you will find that you can add/edit the description or the image if you so desire.

        Hope that helps:0)

Hi Menagerie, I just took a quick look because I don’t use imgur for personal photos.

If you click on a picture, it opens to the larger size, drag your ious over so that you are inside of the frame with the photo in it, now look at the upper right hand corner of the photo box and you will see the word “name” after name will be whatever you named your photo before you uploaded it to imgur. If you haven’t named the photo it will have the photo/file name which is just letters , numbers and symbols.

You can simply re-upload any photo without a name and just name it before uploading.

        Hope that is helpful.

    • This is the poem that Admiral Denton, choking back tears, read at the end of the interview. He also read it when he was prevented from speaking before the California Assembly on Independence Day 2004.* Imagine, a man as tough as he was, loving his country as much as he did, having to abide the people to whom this poem refers, and how that pain caused by their hate, caused him to have to choke back tears. God Bless Adm Denton and all our faithfull military personnel.

“It is the soldier, not the reporter,
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,
Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
      It is the soldier,
      Who salutes the flag,
      Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

      Amen. God bless America.”

Claim: Vietnam veteran (and former POW) Admiral Jeremiah Denton was prevented from speaking before the California Assembly on Independence Day 2004.
      Status: True.
Example: Collected on the Internet, 2004 a memo written by California Assemblyman John Campbell which was posted on the State of California web site on 30 June 2004 and circulated via e-mail. The full version concludes with several paragraphs omitted from the e-mailed variant:”

    Amy Coney Barrett’s ‘Cult’
    By Mona Charen

    July 5, 2018 10:49 AM

    https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/07/amy-coney-barretts-cult/

Barrett and her family are reportedly members of a religious group called People of Praise. The New York Times implied that the group, most but not all of whose members are Catholic, departed from mainstream Catholic ideas and doctrines. My EPPC colleague Ed Whelan disposed of those suggestions.

Curious, I looked at their website. I suppose it’s possible that the benign image they attempt to convey to the world is mere window dressing. But then again, Pope Francis appointed one of their members as an auxiliary bishop in Portland, Ore. It seems doubtful, bordering on impossible, that he would have conferred that honor on a cult member.

Founded in 1971 as part of the lay Catholic ministries movement, People of Praise provides spiritual community, support for those in need, prayer and counseling, and guidance for successful marriages, among other things. More than 1,000 couples have completed their Marriage in Christ program that instills habits of prayer and — this is shocking — conversation to improve relationships …

People of Praise is ecumenical, with Lutheran, Methodist, Anglican, and other Christian members in addition to the Catholics. It contains both Democrats and Republicans, rich and poor. Like churches, they send missions to needy communities in the United States. More than 100 members have helped to build and renovate homes, run summer camps for thousands of kids, and found schools.

As for Barrett herself, it seems that she lives her faith. She and her husband have seven children including one with special needs and two adopted from Haiti. Her former colleagues on the Notre Dame law-school faculty, many of whom have disagreements with Barrett, unanimously endorsed her nomination to the Circuit Court, describing her as “brilliant” and also “generous” and “warm.” They wrote: “She possesses in abundance all of the other qualities that shape extraordinary jurists: discipline, intellect, wisdom, impeccable temperament, and above all, fundamental decency and humanity.” …

I am glad you found this. I wondered about it, and meant to check it out, but I had not gotten to it. If she were the Pelosi kind of catholic, or that New York socialist gal, they’d be pushing for her.

The leftists would love to destroy the Catholic Church, and with the willing participation of a large part of the Church, especially some of the heirarchy, they are making great progress.

They don’t want any Christian at all, but since the Catholic church has very clearly drawn their position on abortion, Catholic is especially bad, in their minds. They will use anything they can find (and things they make up) to smear this good woman.

        • Menagerie says:

The Church’s position on gay marriage may be more under attack than abortion. Like you, I am not ever big on conspiracy theories. However, I do believe there is overwhelming evidence that there are very powerful non celibate homosexuals in the Church undermining the teachings and customs as lived out by the faithful, sowing confusion (“Who am I to judge?”) and discord.

I have no problem at all with homosexual clergy as long as they support faithfully and live out the teachings of the Church, including celibacy and chastity. If you do not believe in and live out the vows you took, the Sacrament that you participated in, then you have no business being a priest. Gay or hetero, I don’t care.

I think you are right. After seeing what happened to my childhood church, now United Church of Christ, and their “God is still speaking” line of reasoning, I don’t doubt it at all. That reasoning reminds me a bit of the “living Constitution” proponents.

There are so many Catholics who have fallen for the modernist heresy. Here’s what I think. Jesus CHrist was pretty radical. He ate with tax collectors and sinners, he upset the Jewish dietary and Sabbath laws, he broke to Jewish laws in regard to being unclean, he forgave sins. He met man in most most broken places.

He was not a man who would have failed to initiate change for fear of customs of the day. If he wanted to make changes to the teachings regarding marriage he would have done it.

Further, you either believe the Bible is the inspired Word or you don’t. Jesus was Word made flesh. The teachings in the Bible are not nuanced and difficult to interpret. They are very clear.

Another good article about another great SC nominee. My only hesitation about him is that he was originally appointed by Bush in 2008, and thus hasn’t recently faced Senate scrutiny, which might make for a more difficult confirmation:

If Nominated For The Supreme Court, Ray Kethledge Would Reinforce Neil Gorsuch

    http://thefederalist.com/2018/07/05/nominated-supreme-court-ray-kethledge-twin-neil-gorsuch/

When the White House interviewed Judge Raymond Kethledge as a potential successor to Justice Antonin Scalia, Vice President Mike Pence asked him “If not you, who?” Rather than demur or give faint praise of a lesser candidate to improve his own chances, Kethledge responded: “Mr. Vice President, that’s the easiest question you’ve asked me all day. The answer is Neil Gorsuch.” Kethledge then explained why—uninterrupted—for four minutes…

Now the search is on to find a new justice in the mold of Gorsuch, and Scalia before him. Among the many outstanding candidates, one stands out: the one who so highly recommended Gorsuch the last time around. With Kethledge, the president has the chance to nominate Gorsuch’s ideological twin, his intellectual peer, his real-life fishing buddy, and his close personal friend. In short, President Trump has the chance to nominate “Gorsuch 2.0,” as prominent conservatives have referred to Kethledge in recent days.

If they had done this when Obama was President, we would never have had the situation where the government was releasing children to traffickers.

DNA tests ordered to reunite separated migrant families

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-44731119

…The agency is bound by a court order to reunite children aged four and under by 10 July and children aged five to 17 by 26 July.

Mr Azar said the agency’s traditional method of using birth records to match parents and children would take too long, adding that in order to comply with the deadline, normal vetting processes may need to be truncated…

It’s ironic that the government is using that stupid court order to go ahead with the plan to use DNA testing. The left doesn’t like that at all.

The specter of rabid antisemitism has never been far from the German’s pre or post-war psyche, their dream of wiping out European and then world Jusiasm has remained a goal for a portion of the government and state.
Hitler conspired with the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem to wipe out the Jews in the Mideast and ‘Yugoslavia’. When the war ended many of the most dedicared Nazis ran to Mideast countries, especially Egypt, where the found total support with the Antisemitic Moslem governments and with the creation of Israerl the relocated Nazisc and the Islamic states’ hatred of the Jews and desire to wipe them from the face of the cearth found new fuel.
Not too many folks remember that German and Austrian countries in the 60s/70s supplied specialized and controlled equipment to Moslem governments to make WMDs. THe German government turned a blind eye and didn’t really move to cap the shipments until the Israelis blew a private plane carrying one of these big Nazi-lite businessmen right out of the air.
The Germans will imvite these corrosive elements in and watch dumbfounded as these parasites destroy close to 150 years of the German state. Then again the other European castrato nations who’ve been neutered by their gutless, Leftist leaders, will welcome the last nation in Europe that showed some signs of having a pair brought to its knees. I don’t even know if this stuff has been proven or if it’s just Indiana Republicans being stupid. Liberals and the Death of Comedy

    http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2018/07/liberals-and-the-death-of-comedy.php

Now, you know what’s coming. In a recent announcement of new comedy programming on the BBC, the head of programming, Shane Allen, went out of his way to take a sideswipe at the Monty Python troupe, even though they haven’t performed together for almost 40 years now. I guess there’s no statute of limitations on making up for past crimes against leftist sensibilities:

In response to a question about Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Allen said: “If you’re going to assemble a team now, it’s not going to be six Oxbridge white blokes. It’s going to be a diverse range of people who reflect the modern world.”

This has sparked the only sensible reply from Pythonist Terry Gilliam (by far the most bizarre member of the troupe—he’s the one responsible for the clinically-insane cartoon work):

Speaking at a press conference at the Karlovy Vary film festival, where he was presenting his new film The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, Gilliam said: “It made me cry: the idea that … no longer six white Oxbridge men can make a comedy show. Now we need one of this, one of that, everybody represented… this is bullshit. I no longer want to be a white male, I don’t want to be blamed for everything wrong in the world: I tell the world now I’m a black lesbian… My name is Loretta and I’m a BLT, a black lesbian in transition.”

Liberals and the Death of Comedy

Everyone understands that the left is against comedy, because humor punctures their precious earnestness. It has widely been understood that Mel Brooks couldn’t make Blazing Saddles today, even if Richard Pryor wrote most of the script again.

But there’s another movie what can’t be made today: Monty Python’s Life of Brian. Although the film is mostly a satire of political extremism, at the time of the film’s release a lot of Christians criticized it for anti-Christian bias. But today the leftist scolds would object to this famous scene:

    John Cleese also weighed in:

Gilliam follows fellow Python member John Cleese’s angry response to Allen’s comment, who tweeted: “Unfair! We were remarkably diverse FOR OUR TIME … We had three grammar-school boys, one a poof, and Gilliam, though not actually black, was a Yank. And NO slave-owners.”

Bonus chaser—this scene has always reminded me of every Democratic Party meeting ever:
