A Wedding Guest Book Quilt. What a great idea!
Today’s drawing is the one most people think of as an Escher: “Relativity” 1953. Thank goodness his initials are on it – I finally know which way is up! 😉
I just had to put this in:
The angles of this lovely fadeaway painting reflect the angles of the stairs:
And finally, I know this is not a painting, nor angled stairs, but this gorgeous double circular stairway in Prague is a work of art itself!
Time to get some shut-eye. Have a great day everyone 🙂

Theentire city of Prague is a work of art. I was there when it was in the depths of the Russian occupation and the entire city was coated in a shroud of grit, smoke and dispair. I understand that since the USSR crtumbled Prague’s back to much of its former glory.

Russia may have shot itself in to foot – it sold China 4 nuke ractors designed to power ships.
Now China’s taking delivery of a foreign-designed, China-built 30,000 ton ice breaker that will be nuke powered. The only other nuke ice breaker is Russian. Now China and Russia, both of whom are scent marking huge tracts of Arctic wilderness and building Arctic military sites, will be equal in long-duration Arctic exploration and operations.
Ain’t done yet – I’m betting the Chinese military technology city will tear those reactors down, study them in detail and use them to design an even bigger reactor to poewer the 3rd generation aircraft carrier they have on the drawing board. That will give them a leg up on the Russians as they don’t have a nuke carrier so they require porting or obvious refueling at sea, their range is limited to what their gas tanks hold. And that Chinese 30-ton ice breaker ain’t far off of a carrier’s displacement, a great dual purpose ship as it breaks ice and test carrier propulsion.
I’m hoping the Russians have a plan – I’m betting it’s a rework of the Cold WarMAD doctrine – as they’ve given thed Chinese a huge leg up. Let’s see where this puppy goes.

Only have 7 plants & only two produce significant numbers of berries. Usually end up with fewer than a dozen quarts, which I freeze & use in muffins for the coming year. As we know, the ability to think critically is vital. Those lacking that ability will fall for the lies and misrepresentations of the Left and their momentary allies in Islam. I’m sure you’ve heard of the great, peaceful, inspiring, creative, and welcoming al-Andalus. That is but one falsehood which has been forced upon us by academe.
Islamic scholar Akbar Ahmed claims that brutal Muslim ruler represented “the idea of pluralist society in Europe”
June 28, 2018 by Robert Spencer
Historical revisionism is designed to influence current policy; Akbar Ahmed’s ongoing whitewashes of Islamic al-Andalus are clearly meant to break down resistance to the mass Muslim migrant influx into Europe today. In this piece, he claims that Abdur Rahman I’s “dynasty more than any other came to represent the idea of pluralist society in Europe.”

I don’t buy it, but this was in a gift bag from Walmart. I used their shopping program and they bring the groceries out to the car and occasionally give you a bag, on Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s day, etc. Anyway, I decided to cook it. Part of the problem was it looked like a bowl of bugs, or maggots. 😦 But, the taste was just yuck.

Right. I don’t eat Rice-a-roni either. I don’t like the ronis in it. LOL I will eat plain white rice if there is gravy or sugar and butter to put on it. I do like wild rice most of the time. I love fried rice and Spanish rice. But, no ronis or quinoa.

I like brown rice (particularly basmati or jasmine) and wild rice best, and I also like fried rice and Spanish rice too. Plain white rice is tasteless and gummy in my opinion. It’s good in rice pudding, though.

Love your quilts and am jealous that you do paper piecing…..:0)

I think paper piecing is fairly easy, and gives good results. I learned a method that is easiest of all – transfer the pattern to a piece of light weight interfacing, then attach the fabrics directly to the interfacing.
Basmati and jasmine are similar in flavor. Jasmine is shorter grain and from Thailand originally, while Basmati is from India.

I took a quilting class regarding paper piecing and the instructor made the process seem much more involved than I actually thought it should be…I may have to try it again using your interface trick….
Thank you….I think I may just break down and give the Jasmine rice a try.

I discovered bulgur wheat 30 years ago. Comes in 3-4 levels of ground-up (from whole to fine). Tastes nutty. Makes an excellent pilaf with brown rice, onions, celery & mushrooms. Czar sometimes makes buckwheat (kasha) for a side with eggs & sausage. Got no taste for wheatberries, quinoa, or any of the green smoothies they have invented to get people to eat grass instead of beef & pork.

Rice-A-Roni…the first time I tasted it was at a Sunday School gathering at the youth pastor’s home probably in 1959 or 60. The West Coast had first crack at “The San Francisco Treat” and his wife wanted us to all try a new dish she discovered. Served piping hot as we brought our plates into the kitchen to fill up, it was a huge hit.
Such fun and lovely yesteryears to recall with good and dear people being central. Thanks for bringing up that memory for me. I hadn’t thought of it for probably 50 years.

You obviously haven’t had my former place’s savory quinoa or our breakfast quinoa (with dried cherries and maple syrup)… good stuff, high in protein.
It was made popular to feed the third world, because of the protein content and that it grows pretty much anywhere, and now it’s too expensive for the third world, because of rich liberals glomming onto the fad, like they tend to do with fads, and pricing it out of existence for the very people it was meant to help.
Good intentions and consequences are two phrases that don’t belong in the same sentence, regarding liberals. But quinoa is incredible, salty or sweet. With meat or with berries and fruit.

These are more pictures of my daughter’s wedding guest book quilt. These were taken in 1999, before the quilt was finished. I finished it on her third wedding anniversary, in 2000. I’m not speedy!
The first photo is a closeup of the center of the quilt. It is a recreation of the design on their wedding program, designed by my son-in-law, embroidered and hand-quilted by me.
The second photo is of my daughter and me, and no, neither of us looks like that now.

What a project! It took me about 3 months to do the one, simple quilt I made, not including building a makeshift rack to hold it & roll it up as I progressed.
LikeLiked by 2 people
I only hand quilted the center; the rest I machine quilted, very simply. The rest I did – pieced, embroidered, layered (quilt back is one piece), bound. I also made a custom label for the back. I had a quilt rack made of pvc pipe, which I mainly used to support the quilt while I machine quilted it.

The fiddliest part was setting up the rectangles that people wrote on, so that they couldn’t color “outside the lines”. I ended up using a photo album, and cutting out windows in the plastic so that they would write where I wanted them to write.

My preference is needlework like that you did in the center. My biggest project took about 100 hours.

My favorites were the Christmas stockings that I did for the boys and for my SIL (special request; still a boy at heart). Those were felt, embroidery, sequins and beads.
I also enjoyed making a crazy quilt vest out of silk and velvet, extensively embroidered and beaded. Lots of hand work.
ADD: the silk came from old ties I bought at the second-hand store.

Ooooh, nooooo. I made a mistake and clicked on “notify me of new comments by email” on the Presidential thread. I think I have deleted about 400 comments so far. 😯 The only thing I can think to do is turn off all comments to email. 😦

LOL I just had a thought. They are turned off now. I wonder if when I turn them back on in the morning {pow} 2000 new emails. LOL

I usually only mark my comments to email from your sites, Stella. That way, I don’t miss things. But, that Presidential thread is something else. I checked and it had almost 400, I think, and now, just a short time later, it is over 800. I only check in there once in a while. Oh, well, I fixed it for today. Just hope I can remember to undo it tomorrow morning.

Can anyone explain to me the “Load More” button on PJ Media articles?
Why does it exist? Why can’t the site just load me the whole page at once?
Is it a scam to get them more money for clicks? I don’t get it. Or maybe I do, and I just nailed it.
I just read an article and had to click “Load More” about 5 times. Makes no sense. It’s as if the internet lately is stuck in 1994. Why do I have 24 GB of ram and have to click “Load More”? It’s like the tech industry folks would have me click a button to add another tablespoon of dirt to a Ford F-150. And then once again for another tablespoon.
It just makes no sense, unless it’s a moneymaking scam. Then it does.

Could be a money making scheme. Doesn’t bother me.

:0) I always figured anytime I came across a “load more” website that it’s just a result of an old outdated site setup,

When the World’s Fair was in NO in 1984 the US pavillion had a quilt with a piece for every state. Looked all over on the web but could not find a pic.

Hey I was there! My Aunt and Uncle took me and a friend of my choice on their cruise though the states as a high school graduation gift 🙂 .
somewhere I still have a little plastic Heinz pickle pin 🙂 that they were giving away at the fair. The whole trip was fun.

There’s a lot of infidelity (no sex to speak of), and pot smoking, but I think it’s still worthwhile. Really strong cast. Steven Spielberg production.
I have a book written by the woman who led the group of “stunt quilters”, the women who actually made the quilts in the movie, and acted as consultants. It’s called “Pieces of an American Quilt”. Tells their story, shows all of the quilts, and even has patterns for two of the quilts.

Stella, I’ve been watching a film called “In the Shadows of Motown”. I never knew about a band called “The Funk Brothers”. They were THE band behind basically every single Motown artist you ever heard. They were the ones who made all the music for the young stars with the famous names, and they never got the noteriety they deserved. I found it on Hulu, after my dad told me to look for it. Phenomenal band, and quite an education for a movie.
I’ve been stuck on Motown for a week now, moreso than most of my life, which has been steeped in it. I just never studied the people behind it all.
It’s the best music since America was founded. Hands down. Topically and technically.

I love Aretha, and many other Motown oldies. I have actually seen her around town, in restaurants etc.
The Funk Brothers were the Motown house band.
One of my favs is the Stylistics (a bit later). Here is a favorite tune:

Chicago has had musical successes – there is a lot of musical talent there. Earth, Wind & Fire, Chicago, Styx, just to name a few. Also a band (long gone) I liked called The Flock.
On their album back (the only album, I think; 1969) John Mayall says that “two months ago I was telling the gentlemen of the British press that The Flock was the best band I’d heard in America.”
ADD: Apparently there was a second album called Dinosaur Swamps (1970).

I’m watching the movie – it’s great! Old stuff, but new production of old stuff too. Even interview my old friend, Don (Fagenson) Was.
I highly recommend it to anybody who likes Motown music.
By the way, check out the Motown stuff on Don’s Motown All-Star Revue YouTube channel:

I will, thank you. I’m still not finished watching “In the Shadows…” I have to keep rewinding it. You knew Don Was? That’s awesome! I’ve been researching him, and Uriel Jones, and Pistol Allen, and Johnny Griffith, and I’m just getting started.
And I can see why Don changed his name. The schoolyard insults… goodness.
Yes, I listen to a lot of soul out of Chicago, as well, all the bands you mentioned, but I’ve never heard of The Flock. Now I have! Thanks!

In Detroit, there is a Fagenson family that owns Faygo Pop (I’m sure you’ve heard of that company). Not the same family, though. He said that the Was, Not Was came from something his son said when he was a toddler.
I knew Don pretty well when he was playing bass in a jazz trio with an amazing keyboard artist named Lenore Paxton. That was in the 1970’s-early 1980’s. After that, Don moved to L.A. He’s a very cool guy who really loves all kinds of music and musicians. If you get a chance, listen to one or two of the interviews he’s done that are available on YouTube.

How do you solve a problem like Rod Rosenstein?
By Patricia McCarthy – June 29, 2018
The ever so self-important Deputy AG, Rod Rosenstein finally came before the House Judiciary Committee today, along with FBI Director Christopher Wray. This particular committee has been on the case for many months with little cooperation from the DOJ or FBI. It has been obvious from the beginning of all this nonsense that the higher-ups in both of these agencies feel themselves to be above the law; way above the law.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

Oh {drool} I am watching Money, Women, and Guns. It is an old western made in 1958 starring Jock Mahoney. Now, I don’t know if any of you even know who Jock Mahoney is, {sigh}. He is very tall, broad shouldered, etc. Handsome without being pretty.
This is him as Yancy Derringer. I really loved that show. Had a little trouble choosing between him and Pahoo-Ka-Ta-Wah. 🙄
This is Money, Women, and Guns.

Some of my favorite scenes in this movie were when he turned to walk out a door and it looked like his wide shoulders wouldn’t make it through the opening. 😀
