    On a turtle (tortise) theme we had one of our resident gopher tortises hiding out under the straw mulch in our garden this weekend. I was a bit worried it was going to dine on my bean plants but it plodded off. Czarina saw it this AM, it had made it some 900 feet down the hill to the road. Despite the apoparent downward trend in their numbers we have our share here.

      Used to have 3-4 by the pond. That was many years ago. I have seen those turtles in years.

        We found this little guy when we were dismantling our old pier 🙂 .

        We’ve got a lot of fat, well-fed red-ears and other freeloading turtles in the lake. Should be some snappers in there too but they don’t advertise.
        This is the South, as you drive down the road every ditch or puddle seems to have a log or stump with turtles on it or fighting to get on. There’s a logjam at the west side of the lake with loads of turtles crawling over them. Every now and then they’ll dislodge a log as they crawl, the log will get caught in the in the prevailing westerly breeze and current and thid log full of turtles-on-tour will float down the lake.

    Went to the movie today, saw Adrift. It is about a couple who agree to sail a yacht from Tahiti (I believe it was) to San Diego. Enter huge storm. It is very intense, very little Hollywood tomfoolery with the exception of one nude scene, which I found totally gratuitous. I highly recommend it. And, if you see it, remember it is a TRUE story. An amazing story.

      I’m watching a British series called Our Girl. It’s about girls entering the Army Medical Corps in England. In the pilot (what I’m watching now) the girls are in basic training. The main character is a girl who has always been told she is stupid, has a Muslim boyfriend, bad family life. She is trying to improve her life. Her main problem is that she mouths off, which doesn’t go down well.

      Yes, Tommy is on my prayer list. IMO, the U. K. government wants him dead.

      I used to think that there was a law prohibiting Queen Elizabeth from speaking on politics, but apparently there isn’t. It would be wonderful if she spoke out on Tommy’s behalf. It’s a human rights/free speech issue. She would get a lot of flack, of course. Real English men and women would be very thankful, though.
