Lost our Lucky Dog on the 6th, he had a grand mal seizure I couldn’t control even with the diazepam we had on hand. I got him into the truck and off to the vets but he passed on the way.
I brought him home and dug a grave out about 60 feet in the front, under a cluster of oak and black gum trees. His little buddy Chez-Chez knows he’s missing and she’ll go out to where he’s buried and sit there – she can still smell him on the ground – but she’s not sure what’s going on.
I’m thinking it’s all for the best, we tried phenobarbital, pheno with potassium bromide and even Keppra but the seizures still came at two to three week intervals. It was inevitable and, hard as it is to accept his being gone, he’s at rest. His terrierist partner will adjust though I’m sure she’ll miss rolling through the yard with him like the Tasmanian Devil, dust and destroyed whatever in their wake but she still has our sneaky hound mix to tear around with. RIP Lucky.

Yeah, as I was writing I thought of Stella. We still have three dogs and our cats so it isn’t as if we’re berift of flying fur. Just part of taking in animals.

Well, I still had my cat, Luna, when Stella died. It was a comfort to have her, and she’s very affectionate, but she isn’t a dog, is she?
LikeLiked by 2 people
No, a cat’s a cat even when it’s doing dog-like stuff. Chez’s been reallt solicitous, taking up lap space and looking for help in trying to to be herself without her partner in crime. Two older dogs are just too settled to react much.

He was the puppy Czar found in a box in the road at dusk, returning from a trip to Bogalusa for lottery tickets. Named him Lucky Dog for obvious reasons! He was just the size to tuck under Czar’s arm & lie along his forearm, and his favorite place was Czar’s recliner alongside his leg, this became a challenge as he grew to 70# and lab size, but he stretched out to fit the space available, usually with his head on Czar’s shoulder. He ate everything, but his favorites were reading glasses and ink pens, which he acquired seriptitiously

Im sorry about your buddy. Seizures are always nerve wracking bc they take so long to go through em and you know they are scared. If none of the meds worked it probably was best at this point. Lucky WAS lucky to have you all for his family.

It’s not easy to sit on the floor with them as they’re going through them, and there’s the period after when you have to help them as their awareness of where they are comes back.
His little terrierist pal was over under the oaks sitting by his grave again tonite, she knows he’s there but can’t understand what’s going on.

2 of my beagles had epilepsy. My oldest had grand mals. My youngest didnt get that bad. Drooling, seizing, loss of bowel, bladder, and the lengthy recovery time. People dont understand the recovery takes hours. The one dog we have left is clinging to me like crazy now. Even sleeping on the bedroom chair. Youll probably go through similar. Hugs to both Zs.😙

It would be difficult to manage without my microwave these days. I could do it, but it wouldn’t be fun. So sorry to hear yours died. Could it be one of the door switches?
LikeLiked by 2 people
No, it isn’t connected to a switch. It is a convection/microwave that my parents bought back around 2003. The convection part died about 5 years ago. It was probably just its time. All I cook in it is popcorn, bacon, and reheat something every once in a while.

I know about this! A couple of years ago ours died a few days before Christmas & there were none to be had. We had forgotten how difficult it is to have everything the right temperature at serving time. It is so easy to just pop things in for a minute or two in succession & serve piping hot!

Yes, there are times where it is pretty much indespensable. I never actually cook anything but bacon or popcorn in it. But, reheating is great.

That is one way I use mine. It is so easy to precook veggies (like broccoli) and reheat just before serving.

My nephew spirited me away late Thursday afternoon to spend some much needed ‘down time’ in the mountains. As we headed into ‘horse country we were gifted with the sightings of grouse, sage hens, pheasants, pelicans, geese, swans, bald eagles, deer, marmots and wild stallions. The secluded valleys were emerald green with new growth and the hillsides were filled with blue & white lupine, wild pink geraniums, blooming berry bushes and black-eyed susans as far as the eye could see.
We stopped to check out a couple of creeks and the water was so crystal clear that we could easily see the brook trout swimming in some of the deep pools and further up the valley we were invited to sit a spell to watch a group of cowboys who were working some wild mustangs and that was such a treat.

We got a ‘gotta go out’ sign from our old alpha border collie (Daisy) so we let her out. Czarina was outside with Daisy and noticed she was ‘worrying’ a spot…then she picked up a snake and threw it into the air. I went over to where she was guarding and sure enough there was a ~3-foot rat snake. I called Daisy off and left the snake but watched the purple martin houses just to be sure the snake wasn’t headed for them.
We brought Daisy in and let BD, our hound golden retriever mix and resident snake killer, out and she must have had a short conversation with Daisy as she went out and immediately went over to where the rat snake was and nosed around. She tracked the snake for about 50 feet but the snake had, for lack of a better exporession, beat feet and was gone. She was satisfied the snake was no longer a problem and came back inside – another day another snake. Little issues you don’t generally have in a more urban environment.

A couple of years ago I went into the guest bathroom and there was a king snake along the wall. A month or so ago, shortly after 4 in the morning my husband found a snake in our shower. Fortunately before he climbed in. We’ve found a six foot skin beside the house once too.
We get critters in the cabin. It is much harder to seal (seems to be impossible, frankly) than a stick frame house. I hate the scorpions the most.

This is how I look at it. I deal with critters now and again living here in the cabin in the woods, away from people. If I lived in a subdivision or in town I’d have to deal with people, day in, day out.
I like most critters better than most people.

Re: FL license to carry
This came in an email to me. I was glad to get it because I had been hearing about this and it sounded like the license to carry in FL might not be legal but they didn’t give the dates. There was no way to check it.
DATE: June 9, 2018
TO: USF & NRA Member and Friends
FROM: Marion P. Hammer
USF Executive Director
NRA Past President
The media isn’t getting it right and anti-gun Democrats don’t want to get it right — for some, it’s all about attacking a candidate for political reasons. This issue is extremely important to all firearms owners and license holders. Truth and facts matter, so here is what really happened.
THE FACTS:
The Division of Licensing under the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (DOACS) did, in fact, do background checks on applicants for licenses to carry concealed weapons or firearms.
Background checks were done through FCIC (Florida Criminal Information Computer system) and NCIC (National Criminal Information Computer system — the national FBI fingerprint data base) and they also did a NICS check (National Instant Check System), which is the name-based background check system.
The NICS system is the same system used by retail firearms dealers to do background checks when a person buys a firearm.
ALL THREE BACKGROUND CHECKS WERE DONE.
During the time the employee failed to do her job, approximately 350,000 applicants for carry licenses were processed. Of those 350,000, 365 had a disqualifier based on the NICS background check.
The employee should have uploaded those 365 into the internal computer system to stop the processing of those applications. She did not. So those 365 applicants got their licenses anyhow.
Although they got their licenses to CARRY firearms, they still would not have been allowed to purchase a firearm from a firearms dealer because the same NICS background check would have been performed by a dealer and would have stopped them from purchasing a firearm.
A license to carry does not exempt a person from the background check required when you purchase a firearm. The license ONLY exempts a license holder from the 3-day waiting period.
When the Division discovered the problem, the employee was let go. The Division then ran new background checks on all 365 applicants who initially had NICS name-based disqualifiers. Of those 365, 74 were cleared and 291 still had disqualifiers, so their licenses to carry firearms were immediately suspended.
THOSE ARE THE FACTS. The facts don’t fit narrative being pushed by the anti-gun political opponents of the Commissioner of Agriculture, Adam Putnam, who is a candidate for Governor.
Feel free to forward this Alert to family members, friends and fellow sportsmen and firearms owners.

Absolutely 100% true.
George Michael lived that life. He was giving a tour of his house and the interviewer commented on a piece of art work, George said that he picked it up somewhere for some amount (under $500.00) and added something like “You know, once you start getting expensive things you have to start locking your doors, so I’d rather not have to do that, so I don’t collect expensive things.”

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
