I want to visit D.C. again someday. My little black, and black-run school (with a long-term, hefty Nuke Plant Grant) took every single Sophomore class to D.C., every year. It was fun for us, but didn’t teach us a dang thing, because we didn’t know anything about any of it, because we were never taught anything about any of it. We were falling asleep, in the daytime, literally, against the columns at the Lincoln Memorial, not giving a hoot. We were up all night in D.C. hotels partying with our tenth-grade classmates, having learned nottada**thing, since the whole NEA experiment started when we were all in kindergarten.
That’s what public schools did to us. That and integration. That kind of put the kibosh on progress.
My great grandparents lived in that township, with its beautiful dunes and lakeshore. You should see it now. It’s a little, tiny Government town, in the middle of the country, with no future. Used to be thriving and growing, back in the day of my GGF.
And they come to our town, every year, on the 4th of July. All of the whole of this town. And they make absolute mayhem, on purpose. Planned.
It’s like I grew up in Mordor, but escaped.

I remember on that trip, kids in my class, as we piled off the buses, saying, “That Washington Monument sho do be lookin’ like a KKK hood.”
…man. It’s all true. My story and theirs.

Lucky you weren’t on the Larry Flynt tour of DC.
Wow, there’s a flashback…’President’ Larry Flynt’. He could have brought all of the party favors to the DC Rat galas. Imagine his conduct of foreign affairs…

When I was in the seventh grade my legendary teacher and a few other teachers from our school took us to DC, those who were able to pay for the trip, not all. IIRC, I think it was around a couple hundred dollars then (would have been 1970 or 71, I think).
We had been taught all about the government of course, and we had an itenerary. For weeks before the trip we studied the places we would go, starting with Ft. McHenry in Baltimore. The liberty bell was in Washington and we saw that too, as well as all the Memorials, the FBI, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Mount Vernon, and to my teacher, the most important of all, the Tomb of the Unkown Soldier.
She brought in a table and her own dishes and silverware. Each of us was required to come sit at the little table up front while she instructed us in how to properly use the untensils. We were already a very well behaved class, she tolerated nothing less than perfection in behavior, but she was very explicit on how we were to conduct ourselves.
Every year she made the trip, and every year she kept a tally of the number of compliments her class recieved. We were told we had better top last year, and we did. We were to refer politely at all times to our bus driver and tour guide as “Mr. Smith”, we were to address all adults as Mr. or Mrs or Miss, we would not be noisy and loud, we would eat properly as she had taught us, no one would be out of our rooms at night. Anyone violating those rules, after she beat the stuffing out of them, would be sent home on a bus at our parent’s expense, and she would have done that.
Most of all, she told us how we would be utterly silent at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers, how we woul honor them and the soldiers who stand guard, and that she had seen people, even adults, try to make those soldiers lose count or mess up. To do so for us would mean quick and very violent retribution, but more important to us, shame on all of us, intolerable.
After all these years, that trip stands out in my mind. Yes, we learned a lot in Washington DC, but due to Mrs. Elizabeth Sorrels, long passed now, we learned more before we left about how to conduct ourselves in an honorable and pleasant way. She was the best teacher in the world. I was honored to have been her student.

I remember some good teachers, but no one who went to those lengths. In 6th grade Miss Bowman was a grandmotherly type who drove a Nash Rambler, read from novels to us after lunch every day, & had gone to the University of Havana when Fidel was fomenting revolution in the 1950’s. A drunk driver killed her one Saturday night 6 weeks before the end of the school year. In my senior year, Mr. Randolph taught English & Drama. He was a tall black man with a limp from WWII, probably in his late 50’s, who replaced a woman who kept the Drama Club an exclusive little group. He put on plays with lots of actors, brought in the chorus classes, art department, band & orchestra, home-economics to sew costumes, etc., & trades classes (our school had carpentry, auto mechanics, & shop) to build sets. We travelled to other schools to see their plays & participate in competitions. He acted in plays at the Coconut Grove Playhouse & invited us to participate in “real theater” there, volunteering as ushers, backstage workers, etc.
My sister taught English, ran the yearbook, & spent a good portion of every summer writing new lesson plans for the coming year because she didn’t like to e
I’m sure there are still some really good teachers out there, ones who don’t just put in their required hours

Just gotta change the speed of the video with the gear menu in the bottom-right.
To 50% speed. They did that to get past the AI.
This is absolute genius editing.
It should be played on TV, in full. Only stuff on the internet will save TV.
Remember how BIG TV was in the 80s? They’re still operating on the same model they were in the 50s, then. They’re all retarded.

Once I spent the night in he hospital in a ward where they monitored your heart. It was filled with very old people, no rooms, just curtained areas, and they snored loudly all night. Finally I cut the tv on, watced this five ingredients cooking show.
I memorized chocolate vodka milkshake. Ice, half a banana, coffee ice cream, chocolate vodka (which is yuk outside a chocolate milkshake) and a little milk. Yum.
Eat both together. Worth the calories.

The soft bigotry of low expectations strikes again.
You want to be served after closing? You’d darn well better have your order in BEFORE closing time. It’s one thing to finish serving folks who ordered before closing. It’s another entirely to demand service after the place has closed, simply because the last orders are still being wrapped up.

Just another day of rolling with the punches.
My lumber for my renovation was supposed to be delivered on the 24th of May and unfortunately, it was not. It seems that the supplier that provides the lumber to Home Depot has stopped taking calls from Home Depot and all contact has been severed. It looks like I may have been caught up in the NAFTA pi$$ing match. Oy!!!!!

:0) Good option Lucille. I had discovered that the bank interior was originally all ship lap, so in keeping with the intent of the building, that’s what I had on order..
If Home Depot doesn’t call tomorrow to tell me the order has been filled and is in transit, then I think that I’m going to opt for raw tongue & groove lumber which is on hand at one of our local lumber yards.
LikeLiked by 2 people
Is local just about the same price as Home Depot?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Unfortunately no Lucille. The price of the shiplap at the local lumber yard was over twice the price that was offered by Home Depot. I’m believe in supporting local business and I recognize that I’m usually going to pay more, but with the size of the lumber order, twice the price was too extreme for my renovation budget to absorb.

That’s sort of a “cut-off-your nose” attitude…a “we’ll show them; we’ll cut their supply” type of thing. If they think China will be happy to do business without the advantage being all on their side, Canadian lumber needs to think again.
LikeLiked by 2 people
“cut-off-your nose” attitude…Yeah, I had that same thought Thursday when Home Depot told me that the supplier wouldn’t return their phone calls or answer their emails.

It just may go under the heading “failure to strategically plan” for those suppliers…and Trudy’s government.
If you read the Canadian press, man!!, they are buying the leftie drivel and fake news memes of CNN, the EU, and the globalists + HateTrumpers. I have family in Canada and have been trying to keep them informed as to what is REALLY happening. What Canadian citizens are seeing and reading, however, is definitely making the people mad, though. Trump hate is on the rise big-time.

I know this because my young son does night freight and brings the stuff in and puts it in the lumber bunkers.

Yeah, I agree.,,I figured that Home Depot could pull from their Texas outlets, but as of today, I’m told they are sorry, they cannot help me…,.
So, I’ve moved on…I’ve ordered tongue and groove lumber from the local lumber yard and the full delivery should be here on Friday.
Now I just have to fight with Home Depot to deliver the steel siding that I ordered and that they haven’t delivered,..(yeah, I think there’s a problem with this specific Home Depot)
