From the Times Picayune newspaper Blueberry focused Food & Living section yesterday. Especially for you days when blueberry smoothies are called for:
Blueberry “ice cream”
In a blender, Purée 4 firm, ripe bananas which were frozen overnight then cut up, with one cup blueberries and a pinch of salt until smooth and creamy. Serve at once or freeze until use. If frozen, let sit for ten minutes at room temperature before eating.
This newspaper section also has recipes for no-sugar, gluten free blueberry cobbler, Blue Angel Cake, blueberry crostini, and articles about local u-pick farms. Ours are still at least a week away from being ripe.

It’s funny this was posted twice. I scrolled to the bottom of the page to post another YT from “Easter Parade” with Astaire and Garland where they were playing tramps. It’s one of my favorite humorous skits in all of film. Anyway, I hit the “post” button and it disappeared. The assumption was it went into the bin, never to be heard from again. Now I find a replay of the previous post. LOL! Apparently I used the same YT link for both. I’ve made so many mistakes yesterday and today that it’s depressing. LOL, but not LOL!
One time a boss of mine who was new to the studio said he went through my previous work (scripts, speeches, story ideas, outlines) and didn’t discover one mistake. That was long before computers were an office staple where work could be easily corrected. I used an early IBM electric.
How the studio ran in those days (late 60s) was when an executive, producer, or writer was new to the facility, he placed an order with office management for an assistant, a typist, receptionist, or a secretary (literally he filled out a form and submitted it). The person in charge of all support staff would then go down the list of available personnel on call and assign to the requester what he needed. That person in charge would, upon additional request, provide available samples of the support staff member’s work, reviews by previous bosses, and a resume.
It seemed to me that it was a bit much for him to waste his time that way, as most bosses didn’t, but just accepted whoever the office manager sent out. However, I recognized that he needed to know what my qualifications were and whether he would want to retain my services. I thanked him for the compliment and he then assigned me to do all the editing for him in addition to running his office. That job lasted until he returned to New York when his contract was up a year later. And then back on the available personnel list I went.
My next job was my first assignment in the Casting Department. That lasted for the next eight years.

Dogs started early this AM so up we are. Part of the morning ritual is to open the garage door and let the outside cat out. This morning he was up on the freezer begging pats and scratches, soooo….
First thing that came to me was how muscular and wiry he was, from his pointy, snakey head to his whippy tail, a lean, mean, rodent killing machine. He is domesticated to the point he’s very people-friendly but still lives for the hunt, he’s built for the hunt and is 8 pounds of pure c-a-t.
Inside was inside cat, 13-pounds of Ralph Kramden wrapped in fur. When he runs his underside flies from 45-degrees left to 45-degrees right and really aren’t the only parts that freely fling. His sole primal hunting instinct is stalking the can opener. Where outside cat (GGS named both of them Mickey) can leap effortlessly to the top of the 6-foot freezer the inside cat uses various pieces of furniture to make successive approximation leaps from floor to goal.
Outside cat done slunk out to stretch and get ready for a full day of becoming a local rodent legend – inside cat’s on the table sleeping off his morning canned catfood. So starts the day.

My cat is the female version of Ralph Kramden. I have cut her food back a bit, but I don’t see much in the way of results.

I think ours orders-in, he can’t possibly have gotten so big from the dry and tablespoon of wet food he gets daily.
We had one cat, a shorthair named Shelly (he found us as a kitten at a Shell station) that hit the 18-pound mark – lived to about 16 too.

My black lab obviously eats somewhere else. He leaves most of his food here to the German Shepherd. Sometimes you see him out in the woods shaking something until it’s dead. Way too big to be mice or even rats, but not close enough for me to see what it is.
And God help us when he trees a coon, the dadgummed dog will bark all.night.looooong.
LikeLiked by 4 people
Ours are all inside – we can only let the terrierists out together – but they will kill stuff and bring the uneaten portion home to share.
BD’s particularly good at dispatching possum and all of ’em are smart enough not to mess with the coon families on the property. Skunks got ’em pretty well trained too, one smeared BD a few years back and the rest learned. All I really worry about in one of the terrierists mistaking one of the skunks for our inside-outside B&W kitty.

I read somewhere that a cat won’t know how to hunt and kill if it isn’t taught by its mother. I don’t know if I believe that, but I did watch my momma cat teach her kittens to kill many years ago.

I believe they won’t learn to efficiently kill by breaking thev rodent’s neck, we had some who were totally domestic domestic kittens who, as adults, would hunt down anything small that moved and spend hours pawing them to death.

I think the “throw them against the wall” technique is interesting. We had a cat who hunted and one day the screen door was open slightly. While we were eating, the cat came in and we didn’t pay any attention to it until we kept hearing “thump, thump, thump” in the hallway. He had brought in a gopher and was beating it against the wall.

Back in the early 70s when we lived in a small Utah town we didn’t have A/C (not that it works there) so we left the windows open. We lived in an old farm house – walls were sand/concrete and about 18″ thick and the windows were almost floor to ceiling (some 10 feet) with the sill about 4 feet from the floor or 6 feet from the ground outside.
I was awakened, one fine summer morn, to a scream from my ex – not all that unusual (I’ve still got some May headspace left) – but there was a certain ‘not quite the usual’ quality to the scream. I went into the bedroom where my youngest son’s crib and my screamin ex was and there, in his crib, was our queen cat along with a foot-long gopher she’d killed, jumped thru a window six feet off of the ground and lept into my son’s crib with. Just sharing the kill…

For the heck of it I just looked at the stats for that small town. Population when we lived there was just over 6,000 – estimated population now is just over 31,000. Ain’t no small town no more. And it’s only 10.5 square miles.

This description used to fit my dogs. We had this huge chocolate lab, not my gravitar pic but he looked exactly like it. My husband got a call from one of the guys on a tug, asked him if he might be interested in giving the dog a home.
He was starved but huge when we got him, big boned with skin hanging loose from being hungry for awhile. He ate everything without chewing until the day he died, gulping it down like he was going to have it taken from him. He was not an alpha dog at all, but was very, very aggressive when he was eating. He lived 90% of his life on the back porch, near the food bowls. My husband always joked that he was the last line of defense against any dog food robber who might threaten us.
The Golden Retriever female was the most alpha dog we’ve ever had. She ruled the roost, and although pretty small for a Golden, she used to put Bo, the lab, on his back and be at his throat in a split second. She went on what we called the perimeter check just as it was getting daylight, and she would do it several more times daily. She kept the property clear of the menacing chipmunks (I am not joking here, I ferociously hate those destructive little bastard rodents) and she prowled the property until her death at 14, active and in charge.
Bo, the lab, used to slap her on the butt with his big old paw, and I swear that dog grinned up at us everytime he did it, even though it enraged her and she’d go for his throat every time.
I sure miss those two. Katie was an only dog until Riley, the black lab, came along when she was four or five years old, then my husband brought Bo home, and then we had a few short term strays and a granddog who stayed a lot. She resented not being the only dog until she died. I guess she coped by letting everyone know who was boss.
She used to express her displeasure, if you got on her bad side, by either pooping right beside your car door, which my husband would not see in the dark, or by repeatedly slamming the screen door. I love all dogs. Some are epic. She was a dog for the ages.

The pit/lab cross is an alpha-chowhound. He can’t wait to eat and thinks that food bowl on the floor is the last food ever and he’ll risk a fight with the alpha bitch to get to it. His feeding practice when she’s eating and he’s ‘hungry’ is to rush in, grab a moutyhfull and run off to drop it elsewhere and eat.
He’ll steal food off the counter and will eat full sticks of butter if given the chance – he’s so quick that he can tongue-swipe the cat’s morning wet food saucer clean before the cat can even react.
I believe that his momma sensed his condition and he was deprived of food as a pup as she was trying to naturally eliminate him. From the first day we brought him home he wolfed down anything in reach and hasn’t stopped. Had to be that puppy thing as our BD dog was an adult when we found her, within hours of starving to death, but she’s not a chowhound, she’ll patiently wait until everyone’s done.

Tucker wolfs everything down, counter surfs (he’s slowing down on that habit, thankfully), and will eat anything he can get his mouth on. He’s never been starved! The cat is fed up out of his reach, where he can’t steal her food.

Strangely enough, we have never had a dog who steals food off the counter or table, not even Bo, the crazy lab. Closest was the grandpuppy who could not be trusted at all.
Once he stole a whole loaf of home made bread I sent home with my son, who got not even a slice. He also stole a steak right off of the grill. That dog was a master thief. He was one heck of a great dog though.

Reminds me of my dog-before-last, Sassy. She was very good, usually, never stole food once she was an adult dog (the time she ate a whole bowl of Hershey’s kisses was in puppyhood). Then, one day, my daughter said, “where is my sandwich?” She left it on the coffee table, and it was too much to resist, I guess.

Heres one for you. My husband had a beer on a low table and a shot of jack next to it. He went into the kitchen to get something to eat. Came back and the shot of jack was completely empty, but the beagle who was only about a year old was licking her mouth. She got herself drunk, stumbling all over the yard. I stayed up late to make sure she was ok. After that though she always wanted alcohol. She would get a tablespoon or so left in beer bottles, mostly foam on occasion. She would whimper and whine staring you down then glance longingly at the bottle then back at you again.
Crazy beagle…

Spinning a Crossfire Hurricane: The Times on the FBI’s Trump Investigation
https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/05/crossfire-hurricane-new-york-times-report-buries-lede/
If you’re a fading Baby Boomer, you’re faintly amused that the FBI code-named its Trump-Russia investigation “Crossfire Hurricane.” It’s an homage to the Rolling Stones golden oldie “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” — which, come to think of it, might just be a perfect handle for John Brennan, the former Obama CIA director whose specter hovers over each critical juncture of the case.
Btw, I loved the movie, and Whoopie was good in it. Too bad she’s such a prog.

Just like being black.”[17] Henry Louis Gates, Jr., in his book In Search of Our Roots: How 19 Extraordinary African Americans Reclaimed Their Past, found that all of Goldberg’s traceable ancestors were African Americans, that she has no known Jewish ancestry, and that none of her ancestors were named Goldberg.[11] Results of a DNA test, revealed in the 2006 PBS documentary African American Lives, traced part of her ancestry to the Papel and Bayote people of modern-day Guinea-Bissau. Her admixture test indicates that she is of 92 % sub-Saharan African origin and of 8 % European origin.[18]”

Robert Mueller’s Flock Shooting Fiasco
The first anniversary of this “investigation to nowhere” finally revealed the real character of Special Counsel Robert Mueller with a stunning series of blunders. It turns out Mueller isn’t really a dreaded “witch hunter,” much less Inspector Javert. Mueller instead turns out to be Elmer Fudd.
Fudd’s declared target, Daffy Duck, lost no sleep over his murderous intentions. Elmer Fudd was a flock hunter. Lacking the ability to aim and hit a target, he would aim at the whole flock of birds overhead, assuming something just had to fall. It might be a bluebird, a whooping crane, or a California condor for that matter, but none could doubt the seriousness of his intentions. At least some feathers were ruffled, even if his accidental casualties had little chance of being edible.
The only reason anyone could be surprised, given Mueller’s record of frequent failures as a prosecutor and as Director of the FBI throughout his career, is that he has somehow managed to delude intelligent people into thinking that with his blue-chip credentials, he was not only competent but even able. The latest to spread this delusion, ironically in the middle of a fine article raising yet another question about a Mueller conflict of interest, is John Solomon who refers to “his record of distinguished government service.” …

From the Mayor of Livermore, California (east of the SFO Bay Area in the great Amador Valley):
“The mayor of Livermore California explains Trump’s popularity and success. This is perhaps the best explanation for Trump’s popularity ….
Marshall Kamena is a registered Democrat and was elected mayor of Livermore, CA.. He ran on the democratic ticket as he knew a Bay Area city would never vote for a Republican. He is as conservative as they come. He wrote the following:
Trump’s ‘lack of decorum, dignity, and statesmanship’ By Marshall Kamena, Mayor of Livermore, CA.
My Leftist friends (as well as many ardent #NeverTrumpers) constantly ask me if I’m not bothered by Donald Trump’s lack of decorum. They ask if I don’t think his tweets are “beneath the dignity of the office.”
Here’s my answer: We Right-thinking people have tried dignity. There could not have been a man of more quiet dignity than George W. Bush as he suffered the outrageous lies and politically motivated hatreds that undermined his presidency.
We tried statesmanship.
Could there be another human being on this earth who so desperately prized “collegiality” as John McCain?
We tried propriety – has there been a nicer human being ever than Mitt Romney?
And the results were always the same. This is because, while we were playing by the rules of dignity, collegiality and propriety, the Left has been, for the past 60 years, engaged in a knife fight where the only rules are those of Saul Alinsky and the Chicago mob.
I don’t find anything “dignified,” “collegial” or “proper” about Barack Obama’s lying about what went down on the streets of Ferguson in order to ramp up racial hatreds because racial hatreds serve the Democratic Party.
I don’t see anything “dignified” in lying about the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi and imprisoning an innocent filmmaker to cover your tracks.
I don’t see anything “statesman-like” in weaponizing the IRS to be used to destroy your political opponents and any dissent.
Yes, Obama was “articulate” and “polished” but in no way was he in the least bit “dignified,” “collegial” or “proper.”
The Left has been engaged in a war against America since the rise of the Children of the ‘60s. To them, it has been an all-out war where nothing is held sacred and nothing is seen as beyond the pale.. It has been a war they’ve fought with violence, the threat of violence, demagoguery and lies from day one – the violent take-over of the universities – till today.
The problem is that, through these years, the Left has been the only side fighting this war. While the Left has been taking a knife to anyone who stands in their way, the Right has continued to act with dignity, collegiality and propriety.
With Donald Trump, this all has come to an end. Donald Trump is America ’s first wartime president in the Culture War.
During wartime, things like “dignity” and “collegiality” simply aren’t the most essential qualities one looks for in their warriors. Ulysses Grant was a drunk whose behavior in peacetime might well have seen him drummed out of the Army for conduct unbecoming.
Had Abraham Lincoln applied the peacetime rules of propriety and booted Grant, the Democrats might well still be holding their slaves today.
Lincoln rightly recognized that, “I cannot spare this man. He fights.”
General George Patton was a vulgar-talking.. In peacetime, this might have seen him stripped of rank. But, had Franklin Roosevelt applied the normal rules of decorum then, Hitler and the Socialists would barely be five decades into their thousand-year Reich.
Trump is fighting. And what’s particularly delicious is that, like Patton standing over the battlefield as his tanks obliterated Rommel’s, he’s shouting, “You magnificent bastards, I read your book!”
That is just the icing on the cake, but it’s wonderful to see that not only is Trump fighting, he’s defeating the Left using their own tactics. That book is Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals – a book so essential to the Liberals’ war against America that it is and was the playbook for the entire Obama administration and the subject of Hillary Clinton’s senior thesis.
It is a book of such pure evil, that, just as the rest of us would dedicate our book to those we most love or those to whom we are most indebted, Alinsky dedicated his book to Lucifer.
Trump’s tweets may seem rash and unconsidered but, in reality, he is doing exactly what Alinsky suggested his followers do. First, instead of going after “the fake media” — and they are so fake that they have literally gotten every single significant story of the past 60 years not just wrong, but diametrically opposed to the truth, from the Tet Offensive to Benghazi, to what really happened on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri — Trump isolated CNN.. He made it personal.
Then, just as Alinsky suggests, he employs ridicule which Alinsky described as “the most powerful weapon of all.”… Most importantly, Trump’s tweets have put CNN in an untenable and unwinnable position. … They need to respond.
This leaves them with only two choices.
They can either “go high” (as Hillary would disingenuously declare of herself and the fake news would disingenuously report as the truth) and begin to honestly and accurately report the news or they can double-down on their usual tactics and hope to defeat Trump with twice their usual hysteria and demagoguery.
The problem for CNN (et al.) with the former is that, if they were to start honestly reporting the news, that would be the end of the Democratic Party they serve.
It is nothing but the incessant use of fake news (read: propaganda) that keeps the Left alive.
Imagine, for example, if CNN had honestly and accurately reported then-candidate Barack Obama’s close ties to foreign terrorists (Rashid Khalidi), domestic terrorists (William Ayers & Bernardine Dohrn), the mafia (Tony Rezko) or the true evils of his spiritual mentor, Jeremiah Wright’s church.
Imagine if they had honestly and accurately conveyed the evils of the Obama administration’s weaponizing of the IRS to be used against their political opponents or his running of guns to the Mexican cartels or the truth about the murder of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and the Obama administration’s cover-up.
So, to my friends on the Left — and the #NeverTrumpers as well — do I wish we lived in a time when our president could be “collegial” and “dignified” and “proper”? Of course I do.
These aren’t those times.
This is war. And it’s a war that the Left has been fighting without opposition for the past 50 years.
So, say anything you want about this president – I get it – he can be vulgar, he can be crude, he can be undignified at times. I don’t care. I can’t spare this man. He fights for America!”

Seen on Facebook, in a discussion about bad tattoos:
I once saw a woman with explicit female to female sexual positions tattooed on the back of her calves. I saw this because she had shorts on, and I noticed it because there were small children behind her discussing the pictures on the lady’s leg.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
