    The Clock Tower with its famous clock is undoubtedly one of the most important tourist attractions of the city of Berne.

    As the city expanded around 1220 from the bend of the river Aare up to the region of today’s Clock Tower a West gate tower was built as part of a defence wall. The town grew very fast and expanded to the West, so that the West gate tower lost more and more its purpose of defence. First transformed into a prison it was immediately reerected, after the fire of 1405, to host a big bell and a mechanical clock. Thus, it was called the Clock Tower ever since.

    Though it has undergone many changes, the Clock Tower kept its purpose of announcing the hours to Berne’s people until today. Its time was classified as the main time in the state of Berne. The course of all other clocks was based on the one in the Clock Tower.

    The astronomical clock was first mentioned in the city accounts of 1444 when it had to be repainted. It therefore dates from the early 15th century and presumably belonged to the first original movement (soon after 1405).

    In 1530 Brunner took over the astronomical clock without making any major changes. We have a good idea of what it looked like in those days thanks to a contemporary painting, which is still extant. A astrolabe type of dial is well cognised. The twelve somewhat arbitrarily arranged signs of the Zodiac can be clearly seen. Sun and moon orbit the zodiac, while a hand indicates the hours on the outer edge of the dial (numbered in reverse order from I-XII). The lines on the planisphere indicate a southern stereographic projection. In the corners of the painted border, symbolic faces indicate the four winds. Above the dial the Roman deities Venus, Mars and Jupiter are painted on the wall together with their attributes. The musical oriel is depicted on the right side of the dial.

      what….all boys? where are the girls participating in a formerly all boy event?
      Maybe the girls are now all Boy Scouts and have their own klatch of playing “horse” without any dirty old boys being part of what used to be their own venue.

        We were at the track one night and had our grandson’s power wheels truck, letting him drive it back and forth between the pits and stands, as we walk beside them. This lady stops us and says, “aren’t you worried about him or his sister not having a helmet on and what if she falls out?” My daughter says, “nope not worried and she’s belted in, she’s not falling out.”
        The lady walks off with her sidekick and we hear her say, “I just can’t believe parents today, they had her tied in with a belt, what if those babies wreck?”

        It made me about die laughing. Yep, the belt works, they don’t come with seatbelts. lol Who the heck honestly puts helmets on kids in a power wheels?

                She probably would have totally freaked out if she saw them this afternoon. Little man had a buck by the horns attempting to drag him and Gracie was sitting in the middle of a group of recently weaned buck kids. She was feeding them leaves and they were licking her like they were dogs. lol

                    Probably. Goofs will be goofs. Somehow we survived all kinds of dangers, no helmets, no seatbelts, whole grapes, no curfew, trick or treating long past dark, good times.

                    Yep, then I turned into a horrible parent and allowed my kids to ride bikes with no helmets, let them ride in the back of the truck on the dirt road, fed them whole grapes and let them drink out of the water hose. 🙂
                    They went trick or treating too, but they had to have me along because they couldn’t drive to town. lol

                A few years ago I was at my sister’s house, some of her great-grandkids were there watching old Roadrunner cartoons.
                A neighbor had came over and sat down and started talking then suddenly she started paying attention to the television and said, “I hope those cartoons come with a warning, what if the kids think they can do that?”
                I said, “well if they’re stupid then they’re also stupid enough to think a coyote can buy dynamite and knows how to strike a match.”

                I told my sister when she left that she had one ignorant neighbor and asked why in the world she let her through the door. lol

    Heck…got a dr. report of highly elevated Liver Enzymes, so now off to the cat scanner to see what damage the Aleve I took for the pain of a failing hip joint did to my organs…..so I can’t eat anything good, or take any pain medications..

    I just got some good news! My darling Grand Daughter (just turned 16) called to let me know she is now enrolled at The University of North Georgia! By the time she graduates High School, she’ll be halfway through college!

    Rand Paul on Hannity today:

    I ran against Trump in the primary and wasn’t sure if he was really a conservative. Now, I think President Trump is more conservative than either Bush, by far, and as conservative as President Reagan was. Reagan was a powerful speaker but Trump actually accomplishes more than Reagan. He gets things done. It is amazing what he has accomplished so far. President Trump has exceeded my expectations. I give him credit for the tax cuts, judgeships, reducing regulation, foreign policy and much more.

    I have a movie report for today. We went to see the new Overboard. I had reservations about this because I am not too keen on redos. They turned things around a little bit, and it was the guy (Eugenio Derbez) who lost his memory. The preview seemed like it might be okay. Well, it was a really good movie, IMO. The woman (Anna Faris) did a very good job. She had three daughters who were absolutely amazing and sweet. It wasn’t overdone or stupid, which I totally expected. A fun movie.

    Last week, we went to Super Troopers 2. {bleh} {spit} It was so horrible, we left and got refund tickets. It wasn’t funny. It wasn’t clever. It was nasty, icky, disgusting, dull, and boring. I had not noticed it was rated R and there were scenes that should have made it rated X. Don’t waste your money.

    We also saw Avengers: Infinity War. I won’t go into it. I was completely bored. But, then that type of movie bores me. I know a lot of people thought it was great. So, if you like watching things being blown up and destroyed, you might like this movie. 🙄
