      Interesting as American Jewish voters tend to lean towards a pro-Israel stance while overrwhelmingly vote Democrat in presidential elections.

        More like overwhelmingly support, endorse and contribute to democrats.

        Just look at Alan Dershowitz, he said that he stillbelieved Hillary would have been a better president as of a month or two ago. (I still have hope for Dershowitz going to a self reckoning one day) but he is and will be the exception not the rule.

        Many Catholics are the same way.

        Instead of thinking and doing what is really in the best interest of humanity they are superficial in their political discernment and do what their lazy ill informed conscience tells them is the “loving” thing to do. If they followed their folly to its logical conclusion they would find that their love for their fellow man would have kept the slaves on the plantations where they had a roof over their heads and food in their stomachs. Many blacks remain slaves of their culture.

        Twisted charity.

        The Great Society indeed.

          I just don’t understand the American Jewish population – not that I care to – but in the early 70s when I worked for the Helmsleys they were always holding Rat fundraisers at the Towers, even while the rich Rats in Palm Beach were directing the most vile rhetoric towards them.

          If I have a hole in my brain, it’s over how Catholics can even be sympathetic to anything or anyone associated with Democrats, let alone be one.

          I find the teachings of the Church to be without a doubt 180 degrees away from the vast majority of Democrat values and policies. In my mind they can never be reconciled.

          Strangely enough, I consider myself to be a rather middle of the road Catholic, theologically. I’m pretty orthodox in my beliefs, but I’m way far away from trads like Ann Barnhart.

          I think my problem is that I simply, having all my life been very anti union, don’t get the Dorothy Day remnants of Catholicism.

            When I was first entering the Church my husband and I were invited to dinner with a very charming older couple from our parish. They were daily mass goers, extended their hand to us immediately and very involved in the church.

            I can’t remember what the conversation was but I remember the look my husband and I exchanged when we realized that they were dyed in the wool democrats.

    Conservative syndicated columnist George Will wrote this week that Vice President Mike Pence has “become America’s most repulsive public figure.” Why does Will think Pence deserves this absurd slur? Apparently, the columnist has found the vice president guilty of the heinous crime of being a decent man.

    Will announced in 2016 that he was leaving the Republican Party over the nomination of Donald Trump as the GOP’s presidential candidate. So it is no surprise that Will has become part of the so-called “resistance” to the duly elected president of the United States. He’s even become a contributor to NBC and its liberal sister news channel, MSNBC, using this as a forum to criticize both President Trump and Vice President Pence.

    But don’t let the Will’s penchant for writing columns filled with big words that most American’s never use and can’t even define obscure the fact that the central indictment of his hostile column is pretty thin gruel.

    Some writers – and Will is clearly among them – think using big and seldom seen words makes them seem smart. He clearly rejects the advice given by writer George Orwell in a 1946 essay to “never use a long word where a short one will do.”

    In attempting to prove his anti-Pence thesis, Will summons the depths of his ample thesaurus to support a conclusion that the vice president is, in fact, very polite and proper.

    And it only gets better from there….

      I have disagreed with William Bennett from time to time, but I think he is an honest and fair man. I read this in the morning, and I’m glad he wrote it. My favorite excerpt:

      For the unpardonable sin of publicly supporting his boss, his boss’s political allies, and his boss’s political agenda, the vice president is condemned to face the supercilious verbosity of Roget’s Firing Squad.
