Sometimes I think “the Right” is so right all the time that the Left is going to have to rename us “the Left”. Like they always do. Give us a headline about a violent event, with no specifics. Then let us click on it. Yep, we were right. It was the ethnicity or culture we assumed it would be. Every time, we’re always right. Give us a headline about a beautiful, wonderful event, with no specifics. Yep, we were right in our assumptions. It was “those people”.

Also, so surprising about the AG of NY. Not.

Ok, I get that we are angry about the way he treated those women (and I served for a decade on the board of the battered women’s program & shelter, so I DO know). And I read the article which basically stated he was a mean drunk. And I know Republicans are delighted a foe has been removed from their tormentors. And sure enough in a few days or weeks similar accusations will be made against an Republican. But isn’t there a statute of limitations somewhere? I recall a young man who tried to aggressively kiss me back in high school, in 1967, so if I could remember his name, and he were someone worth mentioning in the press these days, should I “out” him, hoping there are others he did this to, showing a pattern, even 50 years ago?
The pendulum has swung from winking or sighing & letting them get away with it, to the far other side damning to hell everyone who is accused. I sincerely hope we get back to a middle, where every accusation isn’t tried in the media & the person ruined for life.
I know change happens this way, pendulum swings to the far reaches before eventually settling to a middle ground, and we learn & evolve. And with each great outrage to some long-time festering problem there follows upset & eventually synthesis. Or as Andy Warhol predicted, 15 minutes of fame, then society moves on bored or no longer outraged. Perhaps improved.

I read that some of them were within the statue of limitations timeline.

Some of these women and their friends are idiots though, not wanting to report it or wanting it reported because he was a democrat doing such good things for their side.

I also am weary of the me too movement. I was sitting at the race trailer this weekend watching all the track you know whats, every track has them, this one just had a few more than most. Not that I condone their behavior or the way they dress, but in some ways it still screams no matter how much the left tries to blur the lines between men and women, women will still dress for attention and men will still give them the attention they desire.

There will always be people who will sink to the lowest level of humanity. The problem with people, especially celebrities and the media nowadays is that they have the belief that only happens with crack addicts in trailer parks. Time and again that has been disproven.

All the Kennedy clan, all the Clinton clan, nearly everybody that has driven through Hollywood, let alone resides there, and the politicians, media, athletes, and dog catchers are prime examples. Oh crap. I left out priests, rabbis, preachers, and teachers. Doctors, lawyers, and dammit, I bet we could find an Indian chief to trot out too.

I certainly don’t condone assaulting women, but a lot of this me too stuff has not been assault. It’s stupid to me when it gets to the point if a man looks at a woman or compliments a woman it’s somehow sexist.

The game has been played since the beginning of time, it’s nature, women/girls want men to look at them and men want to look at women and of course more.

Since the law apparently can’t stop some men from abusing women we need to establish a way to protect women. We should require all men of honor and integrity to defend women, even total strangers. This code won’t even allow men to speak rudely in the presence of women so that the entire nation becomes a “safe space” for the weaker sex. We can call this code, “chivalry.”

Well, I’m old and fat now, but I was a looker in my prime! I was close to 5’9″ tall (Greta is little). My natural hair color is medium brown, but I have had it blonde/blondish red or highlighted at times. I used henna for quite a while, until I had too much gray! Green eyes, and pale skin. Here’s a pic of me on my wedding day, with my dad.

Charted at #1 in 1919. From the “Ziegfeld Follies of 1919”. A timeless song, written by Irving Berlin. Another version of this song by Sam Ash charted at #7. John was a tenor with a great voice. He had many hits between 1919 and 1924. Irving said that he wrote this song with John Steel in mind. Years after his popularity faded, Steel became a singing instructor. The original production number featuring this song in the Ziegfeld Follies incorporated Steel and five beautiful ladies in a format much used in later revues for decades afterwards. Recorded on June 30, 1919.

As Monty Python would have said, “And now for something completely different…”
From the New Orleans Times newspaper, July 4, 1875, a jambalaya recipe from a hunting party:
“A half gallon of washed rice was put into the largest camp kettle, and with sufficient water set to boiling, after a while, slices of fat pickled pork were put in at intervals, half fried pieces of bear meat, venison and ham were dropped in and well stirred; then a loggerhead turtle, and by and by three owls, two wild ducks, a half dozen squirrels and five or six small catfish with broken biscuit were put in, with an abundance of garlic onions, red and black pepper, salt and leaves of sweet bay, for a high seasoning. A piece of alligator tail had been subscribed by one of the party, but was indignantly rejected.”
This was cooked overnight & served the next morning and according to the report, greatly enjoyed.

I can remember watching him when I was small – imagine my pleasure when we got to attend his later recording sessions at WYES in New Orleans. He was a character, more than a few of the cajun Cajuns disliked him because they thought hec was a caricature of them but…who cares? He was as frienfly and gracious in person as he was on stage.

Unless you’re familiar with making roux I’d suggest a cast iron pot – don’t know why a kitchen wouldn’t have one anyway – as it heats more evenly and keeps more of the roux in the pot. When you make the roux brown/cook the vegetables in the roux (watch out for splashing and keep your insurance cards handy). You can make a roux for beef stew too and do the beef cubes and veggies in it – just be careful adding it to the hot broth when their cooked.

When we first got to NOLA I worked with a bunch of soldiers in their late 50s, WWII vets just waiting to hit 60 for full retirement. More than a few were full or part Cajun and talked like Wilson to one degree or another. One, Ashton Carmouche (RIP) was Cajun/Indian. He used to go out on morning PT with me and point out the various song birds along the way and explain how his grandfather tought him to hunt and cook them. Purely old French, my older Larousse Gastronomique has recipies for song birds, part of old Cajun culture almost gone now.

You can find used Wilson cookbooks on Amazon, they’re a hoot and taste good too. For an insight on what older NOLAns ateat home look for Frank Davis cookbooks.

Takes practice, that’s all. I’d sduggest starting with peanut oil – higher flash point – and not using self-rising flour, just pure flour.
            I’d also get a flat-bottomed pot whisk: http://www.chefsresource.com/kuhn-rikon-10-inch-silicone-rainbow-whisk-stainless-handle.html
This is a suggestion, acooking store by you may have what I have, a pure stainless one. It’s invaluable for getting the roux outta the edges and from sticking to the bottom. I guard mine like I do my kids, they’re hard to find and a great tool in the kitchen overall.
I’d use a good range hood, roux kicks up some pollution, and keep baking soda/fire extinguisher close by juuuuust in case. Don”t be too enthusiastic stirring it as when roux heats up it becomes a sixth state of matter and sails thru the air randomly – it burns like hell.
If it splashes on you immediately wash it off with cold water and put ice on to stop the cooking process. I’d also suggest NOT looking over/into the pot while stirring.
You can practice making roux and freeze the good results for future (not too far out) use. Heat frozen roux in the microwave slowly until hot-hot-hot and and to hot soup/stew or liquid gravy base (does great gravy). ALWAYS ADD HOT ROUX TO HOT WHATEVER, never add hot liquids to hot roux. That soup boils at ~212 degrees while that roux’s up around 400 degrees.
Add some roux, stir and give it a minute to set bup before you add more – it’s a heck of a lot earier to add than remove and too much roux can turn stew into mortar.
You can do a light, blond roux for things like a chicken-based soup/gravy or dark, dark for a heavy red meat gumbo. Just don’t burn it because, like garlic, theres no way to save it.

BTW, Czarina reminds me that you can make a roux without oil by broiling the raw flour under a broiler. That also takes stirring but I caution you, the flour dust kicked up can be a major problem as when it gets dispersed into the oven it becomes very flammable and could create a huge cloud of flaming flour. I bring mine outside of the broiler to stir/turn over and wait for the dust to settle before putting it back in.
This creates a unique nutty flaviored roux base without the oily overtones.
