Our blueberries will start being ripe in about 3 weeks. Then I will have to pick about every 2-3 days for 4 weeks. Only have 7 bushes, of which 3 produce well, but even with friends coming to pick for themselves, I’ll have berries for a whole year.

My lilac bush flowers are forming, so I expect to see flowers sometime soon. The weather forecast is promising! I just read this about the common lilac – it is related botanically to the olive tree!
Plant taxonomy classifies common lilac bushes as Syringa vulgaris. An example of a cultivar of this plant is ‘Wedgewood Blue.’ Mention of these plants almost surely does not evoke thoughts of the extra virgin olive oil you find so essential when you cook Italian meals, yet Syringa is, in fact, a member of the olive family, along with other such ornamental plants as ash trees, forsythia shrubs, and privet shrubs.
In case you were wondering, the yellow flowering tree pictured up there ^^^ is a laburnum. The seed pods (and other parts of the plant) are poison.

I don’t agree with the idea that Hector is not guilty of fraud in this case. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse.

I mentioned a long time ago that I was researching some stuff for a WWII story. I finished my story set in WWII last Sunday. Yay! It got long. And I have so many bookmarks for random things about life, the universe, and everything in the 1940s that sometimes I look back and think I must have lost my mind for about nine months.
I’m glad it’s over. A couple of problems; chapter three was kind of weak according to my readers, and in October I had this dumb idea that “I’m going to take one German lesson on Duolingo to try and see what the language is like.” It didn’t stop at one, so…that was a mistake. To be fair, at the time, if I was bored and had my phone my only options were 1) Kindle or 2) Duolingo.
We’ll see if I actually keep up learning the language this time.

I studied German (in the classroom) for one year, and French for four years. German is definitely more difficult.

I used to study Spanish. (Now I’m trying to unlearn it.) I can’t compare to French, because I never took french, but some of the basic German vocabulary is easier for me than Spanish because it sounds similar to English.
I went to a library booksale a couple weeks ago and bought all the German books they had. One of them is a German grammar workbook, which was helpful. (I finally understand the difference between “du” and “sie” (<– The "you" version of "sie")). It was also helpful because it turns out that I learn better by writing things out than by typing them out.
Now if it just had an answer key so I could check my work…

Did you ever read the Mark Twain piece about “the awful German language”? If not, I’ll go find it for you.
LikeLiked by 1 person
No, I have not, actually. It sounds interesting, though!
But lemme tell you, I don’t feel for people who complain about learning English anymore. English only has one word for “you,” one word for “the,” and we don’t have to capitalize every noun.

That website ends in a .de so I was worried it was actually in German. Whew, that was close.
Oh, thank you for sharing this, stella. This is a beautiful thing. I’ve never seen the German language summed up so well. And this was gorgeous: “[I]t is built mainly of compound words constructed by the writer on the spot.” True story. In English, we put adjectives in front of nouns to change them. In German, they do whatever they want.
It really feels like English has grammar rules and German doesn’t.

When Czar returns from delivering the GGS to Gulfport, I shall ask if he knows this piece. He learned German in high school on the AFB in Kaiserslautern, and in the city nearby. Personally, I loved Twain, having been an English major in college but read his works before & since.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
