1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen.
In 1885, Karl Benz developed a petrol or gasoline powered automobile. This is also considered to be the first “production” vehicle as Benz made several other identical copies. The automobile was powered by a single cylinder four-stroke engine.
In 1913, the Ford Model T, created by the Ford Motor Company five years prior, became the first automobile to be mass-produced on a moving assembly line.

    Hi everyone! After a busy week including a lovely day at the dentist and dmv, I got kiddo to the ent. He has to have surgery. Just adenoids not tonsils. I think he got lucky bc ent does his own surgery. MD is a Navy trained Dr. and seemed trustworthy. Surgery not scheduled yet but a lot of his symptoms are adenoid related.
    I havent seen the rally or read a lot the past couple days. Time goes so fast. Putting on a happy face for Sunday!

    My paternal grandfather had a vehicle like this. Wish I had a way to post the photos I have of him filling up the gas tank at a station in the 1950s. His Model A had a red body with white canvas cab top. He used it in his painting contracting business. Dad nearly had a heart attack when Grandpa sold the truck to a kid in 1968 for $100.00.

Of course, if I hear about a great job I’d tell my (fill in the blank) to apply for it, & put in a good word for him/her. And then, we’ll all get together to gossip & tell state secrets…..

    How does Korea incorporate these generations-brainwashed people without LEGALLY executing Kim and his entire regime, in public? How could Kim, and his regime of terror, possibly skate, and have a peaceful Whole Korea?

    I am exhausted. I have been trying to take a drawer out of a chest in my LR for months. Now it is stuck open. I went on the Internet and figured out a new thing to look for, this dresser has two wooden guides on the bottom, different from any I have ever seen before. But, now I know there is a stop in the center that I couldn’t see. I think I will rest up for a while before I go back to it. Maybe then I can think of something to hold the plastic stop down. 🙄 Haven’t found anything so far.

      Try tilting the front part of the drawer downward which should make the back part of the drawer pop up and then you should be able to ease the drawer out aus.

        Been trying that. Exhausted myself doing it. But, I was finally able to look under the drawer and find the stop. I will give it another try here in a little bit. LOL

        GOT IT! The problem was, the piece on the back of the drawer comes down so far, it took pressing the stop down and then tilting the front of the drawer down at the same time. And, I had to use a kitchen tool that was metal and long to be able to hold it down. I’m too old and out of shape for this.

    So, maybe someone can help me with some math. Pinterest thinks I’m a liberal and I that I sympathize with fellow Millenials. They’re wrong on both counts! But I saw pin where a Millenial was complaining about how a Baby Boomer didn’t understand what they were going through because their parent’s $35,000 house is now worth like $650,000 or something totally unbelievable like that due to inflation, so Millennials can’t get anywhere because of inflation and how their money has less value.

    Why does this math sound wrong me to though? I’ve heard this complaint before, that the deck is stacked against “poor Millenials” because of inflation. I may have misread the number (I don’t think I did, because I saw it and went “that’s nuts”) but even if I did, A house going from $35,000 in value to $65,000 in value makes sense to me. I heard of a man who bought a $20,000 house and fixed up when he had spare time and money, and made the house worth $60,000 when he was done. But while that might be in part due to inflation, he credited the improvements that he made for increasing the house value.

    Something about this whining about how Millenials can’t get anywhere because of inflation devaluing money feels wrong, but I can’t put my finger on why.

      You have to take total cost of living now against then (when?) Compare annual income – then and now. If they live in Cali, the huge increase in housing may be due to land use policies there, which are unique. I have an article about it somewhere. I’ll look for it and post.

        “When” – Dunno. usually when I see Millenails whining on Pinterest, it’s about how Baby Boomers don’t understand the struggles they’re going through, so sometime in the Baby Boomer era.

        I always thought it was just that Baby Boomers spent less time whining about how crappy their lives were and instead worked to make their lives better, and understood that the crappy apartment they started out in/job they started out with wouldn’t be home/work forever, so they worked hard and made plans for reaching better days.

        Maybe I don’t understand Baby Boomers, though.

          My first apartment was two rooms, a livingroom/kitchen/bathroom/diningroom and a bedroom that we could just barely walk past one side of the bed to a 3 ft closet. I bathed in one of those metal tubs that we had to bring in off the porch. It cost $50 a month. My husband was a third class in the Navy at the time and made $200 a month if I remember correctly.

            Am I correct to say that that was a just a stopping point for a time in your life, and that things did get better, and you got more space, and maybe nicer furniture and things as time went on and you could afford them?

              Yeppers. We were there, in N. Chicago beside the Naval Base up there, for 4 months. Then we went to Key West (much nicer) and rented a travel trailor for 2 months. Then I had to rent a garage apt. for the next year.

          We started out in a crappy apartment over a woodworking shop, then a garage apartment. I divorced when my daughter was 4 years old, and I didn’t even own a house until I was in my 50’s. Didn’t think I could afford it until I decided I would do it somehow, so I did. What I’m saying is that if a millennial decides they want to buy a house, they have to find out what it takes to do that, what they can afford, how much of a down payment they will need, then take the steps necessary to attain that goal. It may not be the house that you would really like to have, because you can’t afford it yet, but you start with what you can afford. And – very important – keep your credit squeaky clean.

      The first house we bought was in 1977 for $26,000. An educated guess, without doing some research, is that the house would be worth at least 140,000 today. We did some major improvements on it, which means we put money other than the purchase price into it.

      Assume we had stayed in it and paid the mortgage off. We would have paid roughly (very roughly because taxes would have gone up) 90,000 in that 30 years. Probably less because back then the interest rate for a mortgage was a lot higher than it’s been in some years and maybe we could have refinanced.

      You think that 50,000 is a lot of gain for 41 years of putting money in that house? I bet you could do better if you wisely invested the money.

      Plus, the huge fact that what we made in 1977 was probably about one tenth of what we make now, and not just because wages are higher because of inflation. It’s also because both of us learned skills along the way, gained experience from hard work that earned us higher wages than we made as very young adults. That should be the wish of all young people shouldn’t it, that life gets better?

      We actually were only able to buy a house 9 months after we married because as a child and teenager I saved all my money and it became a down payment.

      Some real estate investments wind up being right time right place decisions and maybe they have grown the amount you mentioned. But not without elbow grease, more money put into the house, mortgage payments, taxes, and insurance payments.

      So one side of me says that they aren’t entitled to just walk out of college and buy a house. You work a few years, save, choose a starter house, work your way up.

      But I also know that for my kids housing seems to be quite a bit higher in relation to their salaries than it was for us.

        I thought that is what drove house values was the improvements put into it. Maybe sometimes the land is worth money if it’s by a beach or it’s an otherwise valuable piece of land, but I thought the home improvements were what drove the value of the house and made it go up more than inflation did.

      Also, if you just multiply the amount of that original payment times 41 years, we would have saved 111,000 between then and now, and hopefully compound interest would have turned that, over that long period of time, into quite a larger amount.

      Online you can play with some amortization tables assuming a certain payment and minimum annual return to see what compounding does.

      Of course, there is no way to go back and accurately picture the ups and down of investments, but that is part of the picture. Another part is that we got tax deductions from mortgage interest too.

      The way I see it, and I could be wrong, inflation pretty much doesn’t make much difference. Now follow me here. There was a time, many, many years ago that a loaf of bread was only a dime. But, people made something like $30 a week. So, inflation doesn’t make a difference as long as the ratio between things stays the same. So, bread costs $4 and people made $1000 a week, or whatever.

      As far as the prices of houses goes, I bought one in S. Cal. back in the 1972 for $25,000, sold it in 2000 for $210,000. My friend bought one here in FL about the same time for $15,000 and sold it in 2009 for over $350,000.

        I feel better now. 🙂 I think it’s not wrong to say inflation drives a role, but I think the post put too much focus on inflation as the reason. It didn’t, for example, even mention any of the other things that can drive property value.

          This doesn’t have anything to do with property values or inflation, but I think the last couple of generations has expected to leave their parents’ homes, get a job making as much or more than their parents and move into a bigger house than their parents have. Something else. When I was growing up, we had one small TV, no cable, no Internet, no private phone, and none of the expenses that go along with. Kids now expect to have ALL those things and more.

            Another problem is some people want to live “where it’s at” in tony neighborhoods, or trendy downtown areas. I had a friend who lived right in San Francisco, because she loved it, but on her salary had to rent a room in someone’s house. Did that for years until she moved up in salary to get a couple of roommates and a small apartment. My brother wanted to live in Manhattan, nothing else would do, so he rented a basement room for years until he could move to a third floor walk-up he did the renovations on. In 1975 i moved into an apartment I simply loved in a safe neighborhood, but could just afford if I never turned the air conditioning on (in Miami), ate frugally, & made other sacrifices. I spent extremely hot summer afternoons at the air conditioned library or the mall. The whiners need to decide what they want and how they will get there. Everyone else does.

            I bring this up whenever someone says that “it takes two incomes to live now, but our parents only had one”. Yes, but our parents had one modest car (if any at all), a tiny house, no air conditioning etc.

              Yeah, the first wall air conditioner we got was probably in the late 50’s. And, we had lived in Panama, Cuba, VA, GA, and FL. We only had one car until my mom got a job when my dad retired from the Navy. Then, we had to get another one, a VW. Just think how much the gadgets cost.

            For example, my house was built in 1937. It is less than 900 square feet, has one very small bath, two little bedrooms with miniscule closets, and a small kitchen and dining room. A living room of course, but it isn’t huge.

              My apt. is almost 1200 sq. ft. Of course, there is a stairwell and landing at the top that makes up a big portion of the sq. ft. My friend’s house is about the same size as yours with one extra bedroom. It is a perfect size for one person and some animals.

    I was in the room last night when that wretched, leftist “comedian” began attacking Sarah Sanders to her face. It was disgusting. You could not really see it on TV, but virtually no one in the room was laughing. I saw even some of the most liberal reporters in the profession cringe with disgust.
    If a conservative comedian was so vicious to a working mother in the Obama administration, they would never get a job in the industry again. The organizers of the dinner would have cut their mic.
    The double standard is sickening.
    However, there is something you must know about Sarah Sanders: She is a better and bigger person than the sad leftists who attack her.
    At the MSNBC after-party, I spoke with high-ranking members of Sarah’s staff. They were disgusted by the remarks – and tell me that the plan was for Sarah to walk-out if they got too personal. Sarah however, stayed firm. “I don’t know how she does it,” one of her closest confidants told me, “She kills them with kindness – she puts up with it. Good-hearted American people see that – and then she wins.”
    Members of the White House press corp tell me they were sending Sarah a flower basket today – they felt so bad.
    Then, Sarah Sanders walks into the party. The MSNBC party. A network that lives to savage and promote the godless vitriol that just attacked her. Guess what? Sarah Sanders was smiling. She owned it. I asked her about the attack and she shrugged with a smile and just said the attacks didn’t bother her and that she’s praying for the comedian.
    That is the kind of woman she is.
    Flying into a city to cheap-shot a working mother to her face in front of a room of one thousand journalists because you disagree with her politically is not brave. It’s the definition of a coward and a bully. Putting up with it and forgiving that person afterward?
    That is real power.
    That is strength.
    That is class.
    That is Sarah Sanders.

        You say “too much”, Rhea, but there is no “too much” for the Left — they went after the Catholic Church for child abuse, after they insisted and were granted access to impressionable boys, and ignored their own.

        Later studies, even by the CDC, even confirmed that the Catholic schools and church are the absolute SAFEST place for your kids, as far as “Organizations” The Protestant churches have more complaints. The Public Schools have more complaints than that. Both of the “Scouts”, “YMCA”.

        But Hollywood+Politicians have the Trophy.

        And that’s just Christian and Decidedly-Antichrist denominations! There is worse than those. Islam. That weird Satanic stuff Podesta & Co. are doing.

        Those are the three immutable laws. They do always project.

    Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

    Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

    Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

    Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
    Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
