The ringtail cat, Bassariscus astutus, is related to the raccoon but carries itself more like a cross between a cat and a fox.

The government is moving to make it easier for you to get copies of your medical records, you should be able to go on line to your care providers, log in to their systems and print out a pdf copy. As the government seldom does things for their charges unless there’s something in it for them I’m wondering if they’ve found a way to CYA their and their med pals’ gluteus maximuses?

The move the Feds fostered over a decade back to allow hospitals and doctors’ offices easy access to yout med files never really took of despite the loads of money put into it so now they’re putting the work of getting your med records between doctors and hospitals back on you. You’ll be able to sign on and transfer a pdf file between providers. Neat, eh?

I’m wondering…so far some 90 million medical records have been stolen by hackers breaking into hopital, clinic and individual doctors’ IT systems. Providers don’t really want to devote the resoiurces to securing your files against theft, it’s an expense that just keeps growing and at some point a smart cookie tort lawyer is going to successfully sue a provider for failing to adaquately protect your records – bad for profits either way. The Feds giving everyone personal access to their files creates a defense for the providers in that now everyone has a way into the providers’ record banks and a compromised user ID/password could let a hacker sneak in.

Just being unnecessarily paranoid (a medically billable condition) as the medical world goes to great lengths to protect our medical files. After all, 90+ million files have been stolen but millions more haven’t been…yet…..there’s that paranoia again.
