trying to decide whether or not to give the Aussie Cattle Dog a summer coat shave now the weather is warmer. He sheds a ton in the house, and is a lot easier to bath with a shave, and he does not mind it….but groomer that does it is not in Dallas, so have to take him to lakehouse area for the job.

and a lot of other things higher priority…until vacuum the floors times comes back around….he sheds enough hair to make three more dogs I think.

Every week of vacuuming, I have enough hair to make another dog, I think.

Same here. Her fur is all tufted right now and it makes her look ratty and is coming out in clumps. Nothing wrong, she does this every spring.

Two dogs ago I had one with a double coat. They have good tools for removing that winter undercoat. The birds love it for nest making!

She doesn’t seem to have the patience or whatever it is, to let me brush more than a little at a time.

When I comb Riley, the black lab, there is enough black hair to cover the whole area in front of the house. After the first year, I learned to have a garbage bag handy. It looks like black snow has covered the ground from a distance. The German Shepherd has a lot of hair too.

In sled dogs, that is called “blowing the coat” and they do it twice a year. The tufts are so big they are actually sheets of fur. My old guy (RIP) had a coat four layers thick. He went to the groomer once a month and lost 3 dogs worth every time.

That’s the beauty of Shih Tzus…minimal shedding. Potentially LOTS of hair mats, though, and daily grooming plus monthly haircuts is necessary. I got pretty good at doing the haircuts everywhere but the face. Poor little guy sometimes looked really mangled.

Harley was such a love…gray, white and a bit of gold. He’d come and sit with you in a comfy chair on occasion, but never in the lap and not for long. Good thing because he was the maximum size for a Shih Tzu–18 pounds. Picking him up made him nervous and he never got on the bed. Had terrible separation anxiety until we got him a cat and then they would play constantly.

It’ll be ten years in October when he passed. The cat seemed to have a personality change after that, crying and missing him terribly.
