        I’ve mentioned this before, butttttttt…
A year or so ago I was driving up the driveway and noticed this fulminating lump of black and white in the grass. I stopped and it moved across the drive, to the other side and then up the hill into the brush and trees. It was a surfeit of three or four fuzzy skunk kits playing their way thru life. I never got a count, they never fully disjoined from rolling over, under and around each other thev whole time…..just looked like a big ball of B&W fluff. No sign of mom – with that group she was probably off on the side having acdrink.

    • Those little Hedgehogs are the cutest! I lived in the UK for 5 years before I ever got to see a live one. Over there, they are like our O’possums. Usually dead by the roadside, sadly. The first live one I ever saw, my neighbour’s son found in the sheep field. It was adorable, but covered in fleas! A lot of people keep them for pets, but in the wild, they are running out of habitat and becoming endangered. Even wild, they are the sweetest little critters, and just turn into a spiny ball, until they figure out that you mean them no harm. Then they just uncurl, and appreciate a bit of strawberry, or a nut.

Seen on Facebook, on the use of the word “gay”. Made me chuckle:

A friend of mine was a judge in suburban Philly. In the 70’s her daughter did a HS paper on Vice President Garfield. She wrote that he was “an affable homosexual”. When her mother asked her where she got this info she said, Encyclopedia Britannica described him as a “gay man about town”. I love that story.

Yes. Kiddo is having a hard time. Not sure if its allergies alone. Was up late with him. Gave him benadryl to try and help stuffiness but the coughing is bad. Had to give him albuterol and he finally was able to get to sleep. He sees the allergist this week so it may be a long testing day. Going to be a 2 cup coffee day!

He was in an ok mood when he went to school. Luckily no fever. When I took him to the ER a couple weeks ago they gave me a prescription for an epi pen. It does interfere with school and playing chase the symptoms is tiring for him. See what the dr says.

Sympathies from the allergy team. Allergist I’m currently using says I’m only allergic to dust mites and ex-wives (getting a heads-up on my April allotment). Previous allergist says I’m mildly allergic to cats and some trees. ENT before that had something else on the agenda – he was sure I needed his whiz bang laser sinus operation or I’d probably be dead (no kidding, his ‘zact words) within 10 years! I didn’t and here we are 30 years later, he’s dead and I’m not.
You might luck out on the testing, the big-box medical complex that strokes my allergies now uses a blood test rather than the old scratch test, one blood draw and you go home to wait for the call. Either way it gives y’all a chance to go out for brunch.

I will ask about that. So far it looks like more allergy testing, xrays, nasal n throat cultures, maybe some new medicine.

No doubt, he was amortizing the laser. The laser’s still preferable to the standard cut/scrape routine, fewer side effects and a far less complicated and irritating post-operation recovery routine. Standard ENTs in hospital settings tend to stay with what health insurance will pay for – while insurance will pay for 19th century Sweeny Todd nasal surgery most won’t pay for laser though it’s been around for decades.
I don’t get the slash/burn surgery as I have three people over the last 30 years who’ve had their brainpans or eye sickets perforated by the surgeon. Granted our area is rife with nasal/sinus problems, 30 years is a long time and 3 (I know of) out of a lot of sinus surgeries isn’t a lot but with my luck…
There’s also the high chance of my polyps coming back, an honest doc said the %ages would be about the same as a heroin addict relapsing – talkj about a self-licking ice cream cone. Then again my case is extreme, the military just made sure I had the meds to let me do the job, if I wanted surgery I’d have to wait for the VA to do it. See the problem there?

Gil, if albuterol helped him, then he must be evaluated for asthma. Asthmatics are prone to have allergies. Benedryl doesn’t help stuffiness, which is part of asthma. Benedryl is an antihistamine which helps with watery eyes, runny nose and itching. But it is not generally recommended for children under 10, except for severe itching cases. Pediatricians specifically don’t want it given for the runny nose that usually accompanies childhood asthma exacerbations. Giving a child steam treatments (in a steamed-up bathroom when someone’s taking a shower, for instance) is very helpful for the congestion. And afterward, turning the child over (face down on your lap) and pounding firnly with your cupped hand over his back. Best if his head is lower than his hips. This is called P&PD, for Percussion and Postural Drainage. It helps the lungs clear the mucus plugs which tend to form, so it causes a productive cough which clears the junk. If you can hear him wheezing, he needs to be seen sooner than later. If he has increased work of breathing (like you can see him using accessory chest muscles to breathe) then go to the ER immediately. Keeping asthma under control is the most essential thing. It can be life-threatening at any age.

I have to readjust my opinion of James Comey. I don’t think the young James Comey would be surprised at all by the aged James Comey.

After the Comey/Stephanopoulis faux interview made my skin crawl last night there was something that I could not put my finger on about Comey that was unsettling. Comey hates Trump. Ok. Comey expressed that hatred with lies, innuendo and petty remarks last night. Ok.

    But.

Comey literally never shows any emotion. Not even anger or hate He simply states his facts without an emotional attachment to them.

Going back to Comey’s testimony about Clinton, the more I thought about it the more Comey’s repetitive “Putin hates Clinton” line he repeated several times, makes sense. Comey tried to evoke emotion at that point, but he ended up looking like a constipated weasel because he has no emotions and has to mirror what he has seen in other people, he has to match his face to how he thinks he should be feeling when he says certain things.

It all came together for me today when I heard that when someone would disagree with James Comey during his FBI tenure he would tell them “Your moral compass is askew.”

Anyhow I believe James Comey is a sociopath with a God complex. Dangerous man.

    Gotta run!

    Have a good day folks!

Excuse any typos no time to proofread.

  12. R. Lee, RIP. You spoke some sense into me.

Beloved by Chicago’s WLS, and for a long time.

Still amazed at the demoscene. The C=64 was obsolete by 1990, when the IBM model of open source took over (Thank God.)

In 1995 they were still pushing it’s limits — quite far beyond what its fans ever imagined in the late 80s.

Here’s a 20+ year span, in two videos. 1995, and 2016. Mathematica’s use of the 64 chips was groundbreaking in 1995. They’ve broken that system today, and they still do it, on all systems, just for fun.

20+ years later, nobody ever thought the C=64 chips could be made to do this. Nor the monitor. Nor the VIC chip. Nor the 1541/1571 floppy drives with their own ROM OS’es. Nor the SID chip with it’s four voices.

They’re doing it with even older systems than the VIC-20. Amstrads. Texas Instruments TI-99/4A.

I remember when CGA was new and high-tech. Now I have a 1080p monitor, 18″ from my nose. It’s nearly like sitting in an IMAX theater. I have to turn my head to see the whole UI.

Making it do what it ain’t supposed to be able to do, that’s what Demoscene does.

The competitions, over the years, always had, by necessity, restrictions. Especially filesize (64k, etc.), and hardware (stock only, for instance). “What can you do with those restrictions?” was the rule.

I wish I could go back in time and show early-90s demoscene followers what 2018 people are doing with the 64 even today. Boggles the mind. They’re all doing the same with the Sega Genesis, and the 8-bit NES. Making these systems do things that were previously thought impossible.

This was 1994, on the Sega Genesis. But commercial. Not Demoscene. The FM chipset on the Genesis contributed to the greatness of the soundtrack. One set of chips. No recording. No CDs existed when this was made. It was all programmed in hex, like Bach wrote on staves.

Apparently Milwaukee city officials are trying to scare people into shoveling by saying that there could be more than a fine involved for people who don’t clear their walkways.

If you can’t take your kids out of the public school system then find parents at your school who agree with you and go make sure the superintendent, principal and teachers know you’re fed up. Force your school board to call an emergency meeting. If you can’t find other parents then make such a big stink they have to listen to you. Demand these teachers who are telling your kids to tell their parents who to vote for are fired. Take control back of your own kids.

I had a discussion with a young man two days ago. Among the dull things he said to me was 1) That he is not an adult (he is 20 years old). I said “Paul” you are an adult, his response was “Lovely, I’m not an adult, I’m very immature.” 🤔.

Then we were discussing morality and I could tell that he was getting more and more agitated, he said that he didn’t like arguing and I told him that we simply disagreed abut a point but that didn’t mean we were arguing, anyhow we talked some more and I asked him to point to one logical conclusion, just one article of reason that supported his moral stance and we could move on to another subject.

It takes a lot to surprise me but he managed to do it. His answer was this, verbatim, “I never tie my morality to logic, tying morality to logic opens the mind to grays in an area that is for me black and white.”

But his moral stance was of course totally emotionally derived and void of objective morality, when I explained to him that morality could indeed be demonstrated by objectively bringing different stances to their logical conclusions, he scoffed. I explained to him that he would have to give me a reason that his moral stance was the proper one and “Because it is the way I feel.” was not an acceptable answer because there are people who “feel” the opposite of him so therefore logically “feelings” could not be the deciding factor in moral questions.

He told me no one ever talked to him the way I was talking to him and that it made him uncomfortable and that he “felt” like I was attacking him 😏.

He also told me that no one had ever asked him “Why” so many times in his life and that he felt that I was being very argumentative.

The death of reason is big with people.

Isn’t it wonderful that we have as our President a man who just keeps on plugging. Nothing deters him no matter what the Left throws at his head. He will continue to work toward the goals he’s set and that the American patriots desire until he’s gone in January 2025. Remarkable!

As we continue to pray for President Trump, let’s always thank God for the stamina and purpose He’s given our President. Thank You, Lord!
