    Today’s painting is Water Dancer Mute Swan by Rebecca Latham. It is so detailed it looks like a photograph.

    This is an amazing automaton made in 1772.
    The legendary silver swan – It preens, fishes and impresses.

    Amazingly, this life size automaton dates from 1772 — and it’s been attracting astonished crowds ever since the first time it was exhibited. Yes, it’s real silver, the product of Belgian inventor John Joseph Merlin who collaborated with London inventor James Cox on the 18th-century marvel. Samuel Clemens visited Paris in 1867 and immortalized the swan in his book The Innocents Abroad.
    The machine gets its graceful motion from three internal clockwork mechanisms. Inside, glass rods rotate when the automaton is wound. A 40-second show follows: The swan swims in a crystal pool, preens, looks about and as a grand finale sees a fish and “eats” it. (The fish is actually hidden inside of the swan’s mouth, and it comes out to simulate a catch, however swans are vegetarians, so they would never eat a fish.)

    Oh wait. China’s President Xi is saying that China’s door is only opening wider to trade with the US and he is speaking in a conciliatory tone about trade. It’s almost as if China needs the US more than the US needs China.

      a very astute, and cynical as well, businessman I knew years ago told me, “never trust a smiling Chinaman”….and he watched as the Chinese stole our cyber and mfg technology throughout the 70s and 80s and beyond including today.

        President Trump doesn’t trust them, he knows them. President Trump is not trying to make undercover deals to enrich himself at the cost of America’s safety and purse he is trying to gain advantage for America not himself. The first president to do so in decades.

        ‘Stole’ is not entirely accurate, many businesses voluntarily ‘gave’ them our tech as a condition of getting their crap made there. In many cases they were told they must share and they did – they could have chosen to locate elsewhere but the Chinese deal is the one they chose and I don’t see that as stealing, just shrewd business on the Chinese side.

    Why is simple logic so hard for people?

    I had to explain to my college educated niece with a masters degree in business administration how a six cent diesel tax does impact us all.
    Here’s how that conversation went:
    Her: I don’t see why you care about a tax on diesel, you’re not a truck driver.
    Me: Okay here is just one example. An independent truck driver calculated his extra cost for just one month and it’s between $500 to $1000.
    Her: I don’t understand why it’s between $500 to $1000, shouldn’t he know the exact cost.
    Me: That is based on his lowest mileage driven in a month to his highest mileage driven in a month.
    Her: Well you should have explained that before you threw the number out there. Still it’s not you paying it so why do you care and I don’t think he can drive that much for 6 cents to turn into $1000.
    Me: (Wanting to beat my head against a wall.) Have you not ever watched a trucker fill their tank? Now this trucker has certain contracts where the client pays the diesel cost then a set amount over that. Other clients pay a set amount per loaded mile, which now will be more due to increased fuel cost or the trucker will make less.
    Her: Still you’re not paying for it, so how is it impacting you?
    Me: (Wanting to beat her head against a wall.) Let’s make this simple WalMart orders a 100 shirts, trucker’s increase in diesel to deliver these shirts is $100. WalMart now pays $100 more dollars for the shirt order. WalMart is now going to pass that cost on to you. So for a shirt you would have paid $10.96 for now you’re paying $11.96.
    Her: I kind of get it now.
    Me: Now do you want me to explain to you how much more it is going to cost you due to them taxing oil and gas more? How about the cycle your food goes through and how it increases food costs? Which now they’re yelling about taxing farmers more, plus the capital gains tax that is going to impact businesses, cattle ranchers, anyone selling property, 401K retirement plans? Not to mention they also just taxed you more if you ever order from Amazon.
    Her: I guess you’re saying that will cost me more money too?
    Me: How about I just tell you that now you’re check is not going to go as far as it does now. The legislature and governor just took money away from you and gave it to teachers. It’s no different than if they drew money out of your checking account and handed it to the teachers.
    Her: Now I don’t know what to think, I just want my daughter to have a good education.
    Me: Get her out of public education and not only will you be able to give her a good education, you’ll be doing her a favor and she will become an adult able to think for herself.
    Her: What does that mean?
    Me: That will have to wait for another day, your break doesn’t last that long.

            I was speaking to a teacher who rattled off all these different degrees she had in education and how that made her so more intelligent than me and she was correct and I was wrong.
            I was trying to have a conversation about how these kids running around screaming to take away our 2nd amendment rights were repeating what has been fed to them by teachers.
            During this heated conversation she told me all they had to do was get enough democrats and a President to repeal the 2nd amendment. First totally ignoring them repeating what has been spoon fed to them, second not knowing how you amend the Constitution. When I informed her how you amend the Constitution is when she rattled off about her degrees and her intelligence and my lack of intelligence.

            You’d think at some point while she was acquiring all these degrees she would have had one class on the Constitution.

                Now all of those intelligent educators are blaming Oklahoma taxpayers because there is a second teacher messing with students, this time a male teacher.
                If we properly funded education teachers wouldn’t be doing this.

                    Yesterday when it came out about the teacher having sex with a 15 year old before heading to the capitol and again before dropping him off, their logic was it’s just one bad seed.
                    Today it’s our fault because we always vote against funding education aka taxes.

                    It’s hard to keep up with how many there are because the media isn’t real good about making the public aware, but I was told today this made #13 since the beginning of 2018 who has either had sex with a student or touched inappropriately.

                    No telling how many over this school year. I know of one school that has had 5 teachers this school year arrested for rape. Only one has really received any media attention. The other 4 I only know about because I read the arrest report weekly.

          Did I mention that my friend was the Business department head at a pretty well known university? He had a student come to him (business major) who had maxed out his credit card. His minimum payment was $100.00 a month, he told my friend that he could never ever afford that payment.

          My friend suggested that the young man put aside $25.00 a week to make the monthly payment. (Interest lesson and never paying the bill down aside that was totally lost on him) this was the advice he gave to the budding businessman.

          Anyhow the kid, the business major says “Well sure I can do $25.00 a week, just not $100.00 a month”.

          SMH.

          After reading this and Lovely’s comment below, and thinking what I had to go through to EARN my undergraduate and graduate degrees in business (not just talking about working 2 jobs to pay my tuition), YES, apparently they do just hand them out for showing up. You are also right they do not teach them to THINK. I really wonder what they say to them for 4 years – capitalism is bad? bad, bad capitalism – now go hug a puppy????

          I am so glad I am as old as I am. I actually wish I was older because these people are the future GOD HELP US! And GOD BLESS YOU for gently explaining it to her in a way she understands. I have been trying and doing that all my life. I have been a bit disheartened because I felt I was one of only a few compared to the mass brainwashing in the schools, but “It is better to light one candle than curse the darkness.”

              They could do some ‘tough love’ educating like I had my 1st year in college. The high school I went to – no actually from the 6th grade on – did not teach any grammar. They only had essays on content to snoop into students family life! My first english class in college was a shock because we had to learn Harbrace’s College Handbook. Every Friday we had to write a paper in class, and for each error we were penalized a GRADE. I flunked my first 3 tests and gradually improved to getting B’s and some A’s which gave me a final grade of C. Later in 3rd and 4th year classes our finance papers were not only graded on content of financial acuity, but grammar as well.

              I realize I am not much of a talented writer and my grammar is not always correct, but I can clearly get my point across.
              BTW – My college also offered public speaking class for all students, which the business profs and my dad suggested, and I took. I am so glad I did. I have no fear of speaking in public now.

              Oh. My. Gosh This alone has caused so many problems! I’m too tired to list, but:
              -no realization of what you’re good at so you may ignore your true skills
              -no consequences of actions (ex: not practicing in sports or music)
              -becoming a naval gazing narcissist thinking the world revolves around your FEELINGS
              -causing GUILT because you know you did not deserve a prize – but with that guilt you can then be more easily manipulated!
              -no realization of what it takes to suceed in life
              -a preliminary step towards Kurt Vonnegut’s dystopian society in “Harrison Bergeron” which he wrote in 1961. If you are not familiar with it look it up. I have only read a few synopes, but it seems up there with Animal Farm and 1984 by Orwell.

          Our huge Federal agency got its PC badge by hiring various graduates from Southern University at New Orleans, a university that has had its accreditation threatened and pulled at intervals and was listed by various NGOs as the WORST university in the US.

          I had my MBA from Central Michigan but found myself working with/under SUNO grads who didn’t even know what year MLK was shot – ‘ Mr Czar, I’m doin’ a paper on MLK for my class, he was shot in 1972, right?” I refrained from saying “no, he was shot WHILE IN Memphis” or “No, he was shot IN the head” – the fine points of English are lost on SUNO folk. When I said 1968 she went to the Fefderal computer she was sitting at, doing her homework, and looked it up, not trusting me.

          We also lost the huge TSP contract, a program out agency started and nurtured but was managing so badly that the Big Guys in DC decided to give it to a civilian company rather than watch more of our glacial efforts at trying to create a 20th century program even though we were in the 21st. Guess we did serve a purpose though – had we not caught these folk before they entered productive private industry they’d have worked their magic there.

              At my age I can attend college for free if I wanted but the idea of sitting in a class with kids who have a warped, incomplerte and, in most cases, false knowledge of historical events I lived through makes me ill.

                    I was telling my son and daughter over the weekend how glad I was they weren’t idiots like most of their generation. That I would hate to have to knock them into next week all the time. My son said, “the reason we aren’t idiots is because we believed you when you would tell us, ‘if you ever try to do or say what that kid did, I will knock you into next week,’ we didn’t know how you’d do it but we weren’t going to find out.”

                    My daughter laughed and said, “we weren’t really scared of you, but you and Dad taught us better.”
                    My son said, “speak for yourself, I didn’t want to find out how Mom would knock me into next week or how Dad was going to fit his boot up my butt.”

            Take my family members, two didn’t go to college until they were in their 30’s. They both had common sense and were conservative minded women. Now after 20+ years in public school with the exception of guns, they’re the biggest libtards you can meet. They both speak the same language, like programmed robots.

                It’s a democrat ran system and they need to create more democrats. It’s no wonder they keep wanting school for younger and younger kids. It’s why we have kindergarten and Pre-K. Now they want 3 year old and are just starting to push for 0-3 year old programs, paid for by us of course. I remember how many were against Pre-K, myself included when it first started. It was much the same when they started Kindergarten. Now both are the norm and nobody gives them a second thought. Now they want them from birth.

                I guess the joke, “if the government schools had your child since birth, they would say no child would learn to walk or talk without a teacher,” they want to make reality.

                    My daughter and I were discussing the 0-3 programs and she told me they’ll line up to do it if it’s free.
                    She says she sees her generation constantly posting on their FB page how they need a daycare that has an opening and will take 4 or 5 week old babies. They can’t even wait 6 weeks anymore to dump them off.

                    I couldn’t bare to leave mine after 4 months. I had 4 months of maternity leave because I had been at the company so long. So, I started an in-home daycare.

                    My husband and I discussed it before we had kids that we both wanted me to stay home and raise the kids.
                    I couldn’t imagine leaving mine with a stranger that young.
                    I believe some parents just don’t care anymore. I’m always shaking my head when I see people on a FB group looking for someone to watch their kids. First person who says they’ll do it for a decent price they jump on without even knowing them.

                    It used to bother me a lot to see people carrying little babies in those car seats and not actually carrying them close to their bodies. I had back problems and couldn’t carry one of those seats anyway, especially not with a baby in one.

                    I read a statistic today that was very sobering. Since our teacher strike, 160 babies have been aborted.

                    I know the OEA and NEA, AFT, Socialist Party, Democratic Party, ACLU and any other leftist group I missed with tents set up, could care less, but scream, “it’s for the kids.”

                    Yeah, for the kids if you’re lucky enough to be born and become their pawn.

                    I was just watching a facebook live video of one district whose teachers were told to come back to school tomorrow. It was a b…fest with their superintendent. It started off quite funny, with him telling them he understood their feelings and wanted to answer their questions. It was okay they were in a safe place. When the first one came up who was a literacy coach or behavioral management teacher, can’t remember the order and was crying how hurt she was. He kept repeating it’s okay, you’re safe, you’re with family. I almost fell out of my chair when she cried she doesn’t feel safe and she doesn’t feel as he’s really family if he makes them give up.

                    Then we had the angry teacher who again kept bringing up feelings. Another teacher, who I know was a behavioral management teacher who felt like her kids and wanted to throw chairs and just might have to if the head of her family ignores their feelings and forces them back to work. She sounded like she needed some behavioral management herself.

                    Then it quit being funny as they started bringing up child after child telling him to let their teachers fight for them. If he cared about their feelings he would let them fight. One made a long rehearsed speech that ended with her future was at risk and then she dropped the mike. Everyone cheered and clapped as she ended her performance.

                    Time was up after that and they were screeching like banshees and they cut off the video.

                    My first thought was pity for grade school kids being used this way, then anger, then the thought they were going to become future little commies just in time if I’m still alive to be too old to fight back.

                    It’s going to keep spreading, they think this will turn red states purple if not blue.
                    I read it on their private page until I was outed by a family member and was blocked. They’re now working on other red states next year. They’re also not done with West Virginia and Oklahoma either. They’ve named it #flipthestate#. They got 5% in West Virginia, 16% in Oklahoma, they will get 20% in Arizona and then it goes on and on and then they’ll come back for more.

                    They got a lot of democrats to file and now we’re having to talk people off the ledge and not to fall for it. I get it I’m furious at our legislators as well and they’re no different than a democrat, but if our only choice is a liberal republican or a liberal democrat, we still have to vote for the RINO. These democrats running aren’t the conservative democrats of the past Oklahoma democrats.

                    A friend of mine who is still conversing with them on open groups told me they’re now claiming those on our side hate unions, but yet we’re members of the largest union in the U.S., the NRA. lol

                    I gave up trying to educate them on the facts, because you can’t debate anything with them as all they know how to do is call you vulgar names. Oklahoma teachers have potty mouths I’ve came to learn. Some form of the f word in every sentence.

                    It’s impossible to debate people like that, you give them factual numbers of school revenue and school spending. They ignore it and cuss you and tell you that you hate kids and teachers.

                    They have no facts, just the same old tiring talking points, our budget is cut year after year, we just want funding back to 2008 levels. They can’t comprehend they don’t just get state money and other sources of revenue have went up, making them have way more total revenue than they did in 2008, not to mention the state had way more revenue in 2008 to spread around that has nothing to do with cutting taxes.

                The classroom size cracks me up. It’s simple math. Oklahoma has 692,670 students and 42,435 people being paid as certified teachers. If you have large class sizes districts have certified teachers on the payroll they aren’t paying to teach class.

                  First, I am in no way arguing with you. I always hear about these huge class sizes of 30 to 35 students and how difficult it is for teachers. A couple of things. I hear that teachers have these large class sizes, but when I read about real parent’s and children’s experience in school, the class size is almost always 20 or so. The other thing is, I went to a lot of different schools because I was a Navy brat and in many, if not all, the class size was usually 30. This was back in the 50’s. Of course, the real difference is that we were mostly well behaved and respectful, with only a few problem children. Now too many children are raised to be disrespectful and disruptive.

                    Well you know the liberals don’t want those kids disciplined. Kids should be free to express themselves, even if that means tearing stuff up.

                    The thing about teachers though is why aren’t they ever protesting to be able to discipline children disrupting class? All they ever protest for is MORE MONEY!

                    In our state either they are lying about their class sizes or districts are lying about how many certified teachers are actually teaching. The facts I’m discovering is it’s both. Some districts are paying teachers to not teach. These people are actually getting more money because they are a certified teacher and a liaison this or that or bilingual specialist, just two examples. It seems there are federal grants and other additional funds for schools who employee a lot of stupid positions. Of course you’re going to have teachers who want those positions, they don’t have to teach and get paid for two positions.
                    Then many of these teachers are lying through their teeth. Just one example of many is a teacher I saw from our county with a sign that said, “I have 30 kids in my class!”

                    I downloaded it to my phone and took it to the superintendent and asked if the district condones lying? At first he asked my address and then told me I wasn’t in their district so he didn’t have to talk to me. Then I informed him I own property in his district that is taxed and I wanted to know why his school proudly boasts they have 13:1 student to teacher ratio, but one of his teachers is claiming she has 30 kids in the classroom.
                    When I threatened to mail flyers to every address in his district, he started apologizing. Then he posted a public statement that it had came to his attention a teacher was holding a sign that said she had 30 kids in the classroom and this was not true. Their school prides themselves in their low student to teacher ratio. He tried to lay it off as the teacher didn’t intend to mislead, there were just a lot of signs being passed out at the walkout. He made sure to thank all the parents for their continued support and the school administration were proud of their teachers for fighting for their students.
                    He still had to address it though. lol

      I had to teach a high school class for awhile…elective so no one cared to learn anything anyway, but it was called “Money Matters” and the info offered was terrific and if learned, would have prepared them for a huge part of adulthood. But no…they were having none of it…

      So I abbreviated the lesson to one truism, and they had to put the definition on every piece of classwork turned in and on all tests all year.

      T.I.N.S.T.A.A.F.L. = “There is no such thing as a free lunch…”

      and that explains the internet, facebook, social media, TV and Movie entertainment, etc.

      and many actually would see me in the hallway and say, TINSTAAFL Mr. Lewis…..

      Think about this. Before the finished product gets to market, Walmart as you say, all the parts, components, or materials were shipped at least to one factory or plant. Each individual component was transported, the finished product was likely picked up in a trailer sitting in a massive lot of trailers by a trucker like my son, and the trucker then takes it to a distribution center, where it, and all the other components are broken down and re-loaded onto trailers that will then go to each Walmart.

      That’s a lot of fuel for each stage of the journey. And it is not even taking into consideration how much each worker at the factories and distribution centers, etc. pay for their increase in fuel. It’s not inconceivable that they might get a raise with the cost of fuel a part of the negotiations or consideration in arriving at the amount.

      My son is an owner operator. If I remember correctly, I think fuel is his largest expense. I have travelled with him twice, once a week, once longer. He chooses his loads on a variety of circumstances, and the price per mile is one piece of the puzzle. Fuel cost to destination, availability of outgoing loads and how much they pay are all parts of the picture.

      He knows every truck stop, and which places to buy fuel cheapest. If he’s going into an area with high fuel costs, he goes in with tanks full. He passes on some very high paying loads because nothing is coming out, or the rate per mile would be at a loss.

      There is a lot more mileage involved in product distribution than most people think, and imdidnt even describe a situation with a middleman between product distribution and sales destination.

        They do not understand just how much increased taxing of the one industry that means the most to our state is going to cost us. Obviously even those idiots in OKC don’t get it either.
        They also don’t get how it impacts farmers/ranchers and then themselves.

        I’m not even going to attempt to explain that one to them.
        We have a low cost of living in this state.
        You should have seen me trying to get some of them to understand what cost of living means and why them comparing their wages to New York teachers, as some of them were doing, is insane. They couldn’t comprehend that these rankings they were showing that didn’t factor cost of living were not adequate rankings.

    The issue is principle over politics. On a deeper level, the issue is principle over expediency.

    We all depend upon principle for our survival. With respect to government, we depend on principle for the maintenance of our freedom and liberty.

    The Democrats and Never Trumpers sneering with delight over the FBI’s brazenly unconstitutional raid on the office and files of the President’s lawyer are fools. They think they can sleep soundly in a world where the very powerful United States government can do whatever it pleases to whomever it pleases, and the Constitution be damned. They assume that so long as it’s not THEIR guy whose rights are being violated, THEY will be safe.

    Only someone who grew up in a nation where the individual rights of the citizens are held as sacrosanct would be capable of such ignorant complacency. Only people who look at liberty as an automatic and guaranteed birthright — incapable of ever being violated or taken away — could possess the arrogance and hubris not to see the principles at stake here, regardless of what you think about Donald Trump or his presidency.

    Next door is vicious, full of debbie downer types today. Ive been reading here, there, and at 8chan Q posts(interested not a total believer) and am just floored by those on our side in our blogs who attack us.
    I took a day to take kiddo to the safari park last week even though Im still sick. We spent an extra amount of time looking at the big cats. The male lions always were prominent, supervising. Then out of nowhere, displayed dominance and let everyone know who is boss. Parallel with POTUS, and I hope we see positive action over the next few weeks.

    Looking at schools for kiddo. Private tuition seems to be $600/month to 10,000/year, once the large number of fees are added in. Realizing I am in CA, is this normal? The charter schools have long waitlists. 1 charter school that is homeschool hybrid but lower cost has college prep rates of 85%. I can do some homeschool aspects, but I am not high end educated and dont want to deprive him of better education and needed social skills building.
    Whats the balance? Should we spend 1000s on education like this?

      My friend went to a prominent college for a master’s degree in education. She wanted to teach middle school. She was dumbfounded when she was told the teachers did NOT have to know the subjects they were teaching! All the “teacher” had to do was follow the teaching plan given to them and grade papers according to the answers in that plan. When she asked about not being able to explain something they repeated: follow the teaching plan given and go over the answers according to the plan the next day in class. When she asked about what to do about very smart children who were bored and needed more of a challenge, they did not have an answer. Ignoring gifted children is a common problem that is a silent cause of the dumbing down of our country.

      I was just talking to a relative about 40 years old. They are a good, smart person trying to build a good life, but they do not know how to analyse a situation or look at the unintended consequences of options to take. Sadly this is very, very common.

      Without a college degree you can teach your child a GREAT DEAL. I thought prior people here had recommended online free courses? Or as they get older look at what true classic liberal arts colleges are teaching. Even if you are NOT Catholic, looking at the requirements and course offerings at a place like Wyoming Catholic College would give you something to head towards. I would even contact them when the kids are in middle school, explain you are home schooling, and ask them what they suggest for a curriculum. Wyoming Catholic teaches how to think, and how to be a leader.

        The public school is 5 days a week for 3.5 hrs, but the last hour blends the am and pm kinder classes. Free classes online arent what is ok in CA, unless I am not understanding. I have to look more.

      I believe anybody with a REAL 6th grade education should be able to teach their child through about the 10th grade, at a minimum. The materials are all there, you don’t have to create them. I taught my son up to the 11the grade. I will say, I have an elementary ed. degree, but I don’t believe it is necessary at all. And, the ONLY socialization he will be missing is how to use foul language, what nasty words to call female bodyparts, bullying, etc. There are homeschool groups for socialization along with church, etc.

        I am going to visit a few schools. Ine that is a hybrid home and class just started enrollment but already are just waitlisting kids. One less expensive private kindergarten requires an 830 to 230 day, 5 days a week, and I have to pay for them to feed my son. They will not opt out of that. Im the parent so I find it very strange that they are forcing me to not be the provider.

              Other mothers thought I was very strange. I didn’t want to give my son foods I didn’t want him to have until he got to where I had less control over what he ate. So, I didn’t give him sodapop until he was probably 4 or 5. Therefore, the things he was used to eating were mostly good foods. So, he didn’t snack constantly on junk as he got older. I don’t know if that makes sense to you. But, it seemed to work. He eats very well now.

                  One of my son’s little friends was very slight and underweight. He would eat almost nothing except for hot dogs. And, his mother allowed him to drink either Dr. Pepper or Root Beer all the time (whichever one has caffeine in it). Any wonder he wouldn’t eat? Oh, he was hot tempered and hyperactive to the max.

                    I had a friend who had three little ones, twin two year olds, and an 18 mo old. She let them drink sodas all the time and they would set down to eat and drink their soda and get up and leave. Not one ate a quarter of a sandwich. It was okay, though, my son ate his whole sandwich and then started on the ones they left. LOL He was 18 mo, too. And, no sodas at that time. She couldn’t figure it out.

                  I gave my son things I won’t even eat because I am a picky eater. He is not. I don’t eat beef or pork, but I gave it to him. Well, actually, LOL, my mother gave him the pork when he was very little, just starting on meats. He wouldn’t eat beef, but, boy did he love pork. LOL

      There are at least three ways to home school:
      1) Go it alone and be your own private school and deal with all the government red tape along with teaching.

      2) Home school through your school district, which gives you books and teaching materials.

      3) Join a home school umbrella group. It takes care of the government stuff, and there are many group interactions, like science fairs, graduations, field trips, etc. And as the kids get into higher grades, some parents with professional skills will teach a few other kids along with their own, like say, a nurse teaching a biology class, or an engineer teaching physics and higher math.

      We home schooled under option 2 at first, but the books and material were far too easy, as in, at the beginning of the year when we got the materials, we knew he already knew it all. So at first we just supplemented, but then switched to option 3, which was far better, and home schooled all the way to High School graduation. In High School years, we enrolled him in Spanish, math, and writing classes at the local community college to cover those topics. When he graduated, he had already accumulated 35 credits at the college, and so continued on there until he transferred to a local major university at the start of his Junior year. He’ll graduate with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science this June, debt free, with money in the bank, since he’s been working at a local high tech company since he was 16, and he got a small scholarship for being President of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society at the community college, taking it from a 1 star chapter to a 5 star chapter during his tenure. He lived at home until last Sept when he moved into a 3 bedroom apt a couple miles closer to the university with 5 other guys. Great kids, all. 🙂

        I like option 3. The largest charter has full campus, hybrid, and home school. Thats the umbrella. The homework he has in preschool is very easy. We did 13 pages yesterday out of 45 for the month. I know I can do basics but I dont want to mess up. I enjoy hearing how many of you have completed home school with well adjusted kids.

          You won’t mess up. Kids are inquisitive little sponges. Feed their interests, answer their questions, and ask questions that stimulate their inquisitiveness. Teach the 4 Rs: Readin’, Ritin’, Rithmetic, and Research (the library is your friend!)
          My son became interested in baseball, so my wife taught him how to look up books and videos at the library, and he became an expert on baseball. 🙂
          One of his Little League team mates moped to him in 6th grade or so about having to memorize 5 facts about each of the major Civil War battles.
          My son replied, “Is that all??? Dude! You’re missing all the good stuff! Battle terrain, army sizes and equipment, the personalities of the Generals, the weather, supply lines, objectives, troop morale, . . . Think about it like it’s a battle strategy video game! What mistakes did the generals make? What might have been better strategies and tactics if they had a do-over?”

      Gil I don’t know if you have done this or not but there are likely homeschooling groups in your area. Our daughters learned about dinosaurs from a paleontologist and got to hold real fossils, they still remember it.

      You can search online for homeschooling groups also a lot of churches have homeschooling groups.

      One of the things I am most disappointed in myself about is sending my two oldest girls to Catholic HighSchool. Truly inhabited by horrible teachers, horrible parents and horrible children. I was naive. I wouldn’t do it again. Did I mention that some of the kids drove cars that cost more than the average teacher’s annual salary? Vipers in the parking lot, money to spare on drugs sex and alcohol.

      The education was relatively good, Both girls got into prestigious universities and knew a lot of “stuff.” Still a mess of a place for young people forming their world view.

      My two eldest were homeschooled through eighth grade.

          Some so-called “Catholic” schools are much worse than secular schools, especially the further up in grades you go such as in college. It is a nightmare sending a child to college these days. I think most of the “Catholic” colleges are worse than the secular ones.

        Interesting. Back in the early 70’s the Catholic school one friend went to had more than a few promiscuous girls, but not the Catholic school my other friend went to. Both their children went to Catholic schools and neither was like yours. The current schooling in one is somewhat PC however. One school the parents basically caused to be closed down when they did their own investigation and found money being stolen.

        I am so sorry it did not turn out well. I hope your children were able to at least take a life lesson from this about how to deal with people like that.

          There is one Catholic school within an hour of here that is actually Catholic with a student body that respects the teachings of Christ. All the other Catholic schools are liberal cesspools I have heard about it from mu;title sources.

          The high school my girls went to had two bus loads of students go to the pro life march in DC. A bunch of them had to come home early as they were evicted from the hotel they were staying in for property damage and drunkenness, their punishment? Their parents had to foot an extra bill for the unplanned ride home. These are kids who routinely spend 200 on a meal out. 🙄.

          The principal was an Obama supporter with an Obama sign in his yard do to strong presser from a few of us parents he resigned at the end of the year but I would say 80% of the teachers supported Obama.

          Sad.

    I have not read them all – I will when i’m feeling better. What a great mind he has!

    To those who are looking to home school or teach their children when they get home from the brainwashing center, when it is age appropriate, have them read intelligent writers such as Pat Buchanan. There are many out there, but I find more, and more it is the older writers with the ability to think and express good values, and there are fewer young ones to follow them.

    This reminds me of how schools are not teaching cursive so how can students read original source founding documents. As important as that is I can not imagine not being able to sign my name. Having your own signature is one of the last vestiges of individuality, and the regressives want to take that away as well.

    I recently was listening to a techie radio program and they said in a few years video was going to be how 80% of the news is presented online.
    Gee – you won’t even have to be able to read by then! Isn’t that great! You can just sit there like a zombie, wallowing in your feelings, watching news/entertainment! /sarc.

    I am not familiar with The Hill, but I found some truth in this article:
