Evgeny Kissin (b. 1971) playing “La Campanella”
The Royal Albert Hall, London, August 1997

La campanella (meaning “The Little Bell”) is the nickname given to the third of six Grandes รฉtudes de Paganini (“Grand Paganini Etudes”), S. 141 (1851), composed by Franz Liszt. This piece is a revision of an earlier version from 1838, the ร‰tudes d’exรฉcution transcendente d’aprรจs Paganini, S. 140. Its melody comes from the final movement of Niccolรฒ Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in B minor, where the tune was reinforced by a little handbell.

Happy Tuesday! Here is a painting by one of my favorite artists Fitz Hugh Lane – a great painter. This is “Lighthouse at Comden Maine”, another sunrise painting.

Here is another vintage Easter card. This is done in a lovely Art Nouveau style,

F.H. Lane 1804-1865. has an interesting life story. He lived in Gloucester, MA, so paintings of the sea are no surprize. His legs became crippled when he was a toddler, probably from eating a poisonous plant. He was extremely talented, and highly thought of. Here is the statue erected to honor him at his house in Gloucester. You can just see his ever present crutches.

As it is everywhere along the seashore, the ever present wind is aptly shown even in bronze by the horizontal lift of his coattail.

Have a great day everyone! ๐Ÿ™‚

Belated Happy Easter to all. I am fighting this bad sinus infection still. Its a bad one. Kiddo got hives again but no problems breathing. I took pictures to show the allergist. Otherwise, he has a lingering cough, but better. I have to take him out for a day trip before his vacation is over whether i am over it or not. No fun being cooped up for 2 weeks!
I hope you all had a very nice Easter! ๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒท๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿฆ†๐Ÿฆ†

I like it. However, it really will take me more than a day to go through my books. I’m going to have trouble parting with most of them. Another reason I love the kindle.

Of course I am in the middle of, and not doing well at all, trying to purge our house. I have to somehow get myself going, but if I were just organizing this has been on my mind. Suppose you actually threw away ten things a day. Five days a week, less ten days, shall we say, for holidays or maybe just don’t want to. That’s 2500 things you get rid of in a year, if my math is correct, and you could add that with your chart above and really have an organized and neat home.

I’m really trying to get in the mindset of just keeping a very few cherished things and necessities. I think it will help to be able to give some things to my kids and grandkids.

But I am tired of cleaning, of trying to keep up, of organizing, which I am not good at. I want a simpler life with lots less responsibilities.

What I need to do is to make a “things to do” database, organized by day, week, month, semi-annual, annual etc. I did this at work, and it worked marvelously. Of course, you have to DO what is on the lists, but having a target makes it easier. My biggest problem right now is a lack of structure.

I have been telling myself the same thing. My mind does not work well in regards to this. I have trouble seeing where to start, and I am overwhelmed by the task. And my house is an average, every day home. I am not a hoarder, it’s not filthy, it is pretty well maintained, but the things that do have to be done seem larger than life to me because of the extent of stuff I want to get rid of.

When you are at retirement age and wanting to drastically change your life, it seems so overwhelming. I can’t understand why. My mother was a hoarder, and after she died I had to go through her home with only occasional help from my husband, who was working very long hours, and my sons after school if they didn’t have activities, as well as a sister in law who helped quite a bit more than anyone else could.

I was working full time, and it took me four months. When you think of the fact that I had kids at home, a very demanding career, very physical job I needed to have energy for, four months is not a long time to get it done. It was a house wall to wall with crap, and four out buildings full to the roof.

If I could do that, I don’t see why I have so much trouble now.

But I agree, I do better when I write out goals for day, week, and month. Part of my problem is letting myself get too off track with grandkids. I have the tendency to drop everything for when I am needed with them, and I am getting back to work after interruptions.

I’m looking for advice what to tell parents who are coming to me asking for advice.

I’ve been very vocal on FB and have also been sharing any meetings of citizens I know about. That has gotten others to become vocal and speak their opinion. I started being vocal before the last time they all went to the capitol. The problem is some of these people are parents and now they’re contacting me telling me teachers are taking it out on their kids and they’re afraid to speak out anymore. Most have went to their principals but are only told they will talk to the teacher(s). I know the easy thing to say is remove your kids from public school, but I also know that is not what they want to hear.
I did look up Oklahoma laws and we’re a one party state as far as recording conversations.

I don’t want to tell them anything that is going to make it tougher on their kids, some of these kids are not much more than babies.

My gut says to tell them to send their kids to school with a cell phone and show them how to record with it or some other type of recording device and take it to the school board as well as traditional media and social media. Put their names and faces out there.

I know what I would do if it was my child but it’s a little more difficult to tell others what to do when it’s their children involved.

All you can do is suggest. The parents can take it from there. I agree about having the kids record what is going on in class, but parents will have to find out if it is permitted in their kids’ schools, and it would be strictly up to them.

One really valuable thing you can do is to compile data about the schools, salaries, budgets (which you have been doing) and put it into a form that the parents can easily read and use. Truth is a valuable tool.

I’ve been working into the wee hours of the night doing that. I’m getting a county by county count and others are going to send them to local media and legislature.

It just infuriates me that they’re using children to bully parents in an attempt to silence their voice. Parents today aren’t the parents of the past who would have stormed the school and school board.

        • Menagerie says:

I agree with what stella said, and for parents of children old enough to record things. But I also believe that parents need to be persistently confrontational. By that I do not mean in your face threatening, I mean personally put teachers and principals on notice that you are monitoring their actions daily and will contact the school board, as well as organize a meeting with other parents and call in the press (haha, if they will, but threaten anyhow) and expose the harrassment of kids.

In some cases it won’t stop them, but in some it will. And if they can band together, have a group, even if it’s just five or ten vocal parents, give themselves some kind of name, and write a letter representing the group to the school principal, copy the school board, the local representatives, and send it to newspapers, whoever the heck they can think of, they have more leverage.

I might even send a letter to the teacher’s union publicly asking if they are supporting punitive action against children and what their policy is. I would forward that one to a tv, radio and newspaper and let them know you did. Don’t think about whether you get press time, just mention that it was sent. Ask them to clarify for Oklahoma parents what the union’s position is, and what actions they plan to take.

Don’t write the letter saying “Five of us are mad.” Don’t mention numbers. Have one person be the spokesperson representing such and such a group. Perhaps have a second signatory as well to show that it isn’t just one parent. Get a person who can write well, and of course I mean grammatically, but I aslo mean comprehensively and professionally.

Suggest concerned parents have a brainstorming session in someone’s home one evening, or anywhere they will go. Get ideas for composing the letter, get facts, as many as possible, and preferably, at least a couple with as much spine as you have who will be willing to say “Mrs. Jones did xyz to Tom Smith on April 2, 2018 in third period history class.”

That last part you may want to save for back up, not the original communication, but let people know that it will come to that and they may need to go there. And if they do, they need to make the last paragraphs clearly professionally a threat to pursue legal action if these revelations result in any punitive actions by school officials. Ask all parties to ask around if they know or are related to any attorneys who might help draft a letter, or be willing to work with them.

They are going to have to be loud and persistent. Here I recommend, if you have paid attention to czar’s stories about how he and czarina have handled his GGS’s school. In fact, if they chime in, I expect their advice would be much better than mine.

I’ve only been posting my opinion and facts on FB. Although I’ve been posting them public I honestly figured nobody would see them but my friends and family. I guess I was wrong as I’m being bombarded now with private messages.

I keep having to tell people I’m just an old Grandma with strong opinions, not someone with the knowledge or experience to take on public education or the legislature. I was asked by others to come up with numbers, it was my small part.
Now I have parents contacting me, teachers, school board members all telling me horror stories. If only half of what I’m being told is true I honestly believe it is broken beyond repair and at least we need a major investigation into our public school system.

Tell them to DOCUMENT EVERYTHING with names, dates, and if possible videos. A 6th grade girl was just in the news (positively) for recording her teacher’s rants. More and more you’re seeing it, because the teachers have gone nuts especially since Trump was elected.
Have the parents talk to, basically interview, their children every day after school. My parents did with me.They started progressive nosing into family business in the 1960’s in my home state.
As Menagerie said, have them start a group – organize. An organized group with a catchy name and a spokesperson will go a long way towards getting the school’s and media’s attention. Your group needs PR, marketing almost, so your information gets out. There is strength in numbers, documentation and organization.
My friends landed up forming a group, did their own “private Investigator” work, one parent was an acoountant, and they found out that 2 people in the school were stealing the school’s money, having an affair, and spending the money on vacations etc. They all got their kids out of the school, word spread, and eventually the school closed because there weren’t enough kids in it.
This is a long term, probably never ending project to be passed onto the next group of parents coming into the school system. But really, there is no alternative considering how bad you’ve said it is.

I’ve received lots of stories of teachers having affairs with each other, principals and superintendents and it making it’s way onto school property. They get found out and school board asks them to resign and it will not be in their permanent record. (This I know of happening myself several years ago, just didn’t realize it was widespread)
Inappropriate contact with students, same action and some of these teachers later were suspended at a different school for molestation. Others just move on from school to school.
                    Embezzlement gets the same treatment.
New job positions pulled out of thin air by administration to give family members a job.
Cheating on state tests with assistance from teachers.
Teachers giving teens condoms and contraceptive foam. Teachers telling grade school kids about sex without parents’ permission. Teachers taking kids to the health department for birth control without parents’ consent.
Teachers drinking alcohol in class and giving alcohol to students.
Teachers caught smoking joints with students and it being swept under the rug.
Teachers getting mad at parents who call them over the carpet for something and them retaliating by calling DHS and making up lies.
Administration falsifying records to get more money.

The stuff I’m being told I guess is not shocking as we hear it all the time. Just saddens and sickens me it happens here.
I’ve asked some of them why they haven’t taken it to somebody before and they say they’ve tried, but authorities say it’s a school issue and unless they have proof of a crime or a child or parent comes to them, there’s nothing they can do. If you take it to school board members they don’t want to hear it because they don’t want their school to look bad and often are in on the cover up. Then they make your life miserable.

That’s why I’m kind of out in left field when I started getting all of these private messages. I’ve done nothing with all of them because I don’t know how many are true and to be honest even if I did I don’t know what to do with it.

Maybe some of the ideas Stellars had would help if you think you know even a few of the people who are contacting you are genuine good people

Most of the parents who started asking for advice I do know or are friends or relatives of those I know. I started asking who knew them and have figured out most of them.
Some I haven’t figured out though.

Only a couple of those who have contacted me with horror stories do I know or know of.

None of them contacting me with rude messages do I know. A couple of them though I discovered were ranting on their page about Oklahoma Taxpayers Unite. That’s why I think they’re going through the list of likes on that page.

I honestly don’t think anyone who can do anything is going to do anything.
They are using school buses to bus teachers to protest. That is illegal to use buses for anything other than school functions. Yet, it’s in the open and nobody is saying anything, much less doing anything.
They have until April 26th to conduct testing or they lose their federal funding. All of these schools around here testing was scheduled to start yesterday, yet didn’t.

Parents have taken to putting signs up at schools demanding they return so their kids can take their tests. They’re demanding the school boards to have emergency meetings.
Even schools that voted to not walk out have had to close because teachers didn’t show up.
It’s not going to stop here either, they openly are saying now they’re taking this to every red state. I guess we know teachers are democrats by those statements.

Fox news with Shannon Breen just had a quick sentence or two saying the teachers took over the building, and they had a picture of them.

Some of those who have contacted me who sound legit I’ve been stressing to them they need to contact media they can trust.

It’s not something I can do as I wasn’t there.

Something else I keep stressing is to contact the groups who are working towards transparency in our government and are calling for independent audits. That I believe is the only way to solve this. There is nobody of authority looking into the schools or any state departments.

Heck, outside of a select few none of the legislature even pushed back on their false claims about Arkansas and Texas school funding or teacher salaries.
Even those fighting against more taxes keep harping on teachers deserve raises.

Nobody is pointing out that many schools state tests are this week. Some of these tests determine if kids pass. It also has consequences for the schools.

How many of us feel the same way?

    https://brookemcgowan.blogspot.com/2018/03/we-want-divorce.html

    Dear Oklahoma entrenched Republicans,

    We want a divorce.

And itโ€™s YOU that has to go! Because Conservatives, actual conservatives, have held their end of the bargain by rejecting every effort to raise Oklahomaโ€™s taxes to historic levels. YOU on the other hand, have jumped the shark, cheated on the good people of Oklahoma, and we are kicking you out and keeping the house. Youโ€™ve just gotta go, and like the deranged cheating narcissist, you continue to gaslight us by telling us the only way to solve the current dilemma is by raising our tax. We KNOW BETTER, and we are onto you!

Last week, the House voted, with the help of 44 gaslighting cheating republicans, to repeal state Question 640, that very same state question that has saved our bacon each time these cheaters try the same thing over and over again. HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU HAVE TO BE TOLD NO? You donโ€™t understand NO!!?? Thatโ€™s a problem friends.

Remind them: NO MEANS NO! Stop trying to rape and abuse the tax payers of Our State!

Dear true conservatives, Joe Oklahoma, You have until April 13 to find someone to challenge your cheating gaslighting lying republican. Maybe itโ€™s YOU, call me.

By the way, there were FOUR, thatโ€™s right, only FOUR Oklahoma senators last week that voted against that gigantic tax bill, tune of half a billion dollars, and you know what happened to Senators Silk, Sykes, Bracheen and Dahm? The very next day they were summarily punished for their vote against it. Thatโ€™s right, Republican senate leadership pulled their bills from the floor. Thatโ€™s an abusive spouse that needs to be kicked to the curb! In this scenario, We the people are now the police and we are sending out a VPO on all of you!

GET OUT OF OUR PARTY! You donโ€™t belong.

The Republicans in DC are no better. This week they are trying to force the $1.3 Trillion tax bill (can we agree that anything called an OMNIBUS should just be scrapped every time?).

    Brooke McGowan
Middle of the Road Republicans HAVE TO GO, youโ€™ve never served us, we are sick of your lies, your betrayal, and your deception.

    Signed,

    Conservatives who actually mean it

Over Easter weekend I watched this fun old “B” film..and though Frank Morgan is remembered mainly for “The Wizard of Oz” (1939), this performance carries none of the “Wizard” bumbling persona and shows him for the excellent actor he was.

A STRANGER IN TOWN (1943) Frank Morgan – Richard Carlson – Jean Rogers

Frank Morgan stars as a vacationing supreme court justice who assists a small town man (Richard Carlson – “The Little Foxes” 1941) with his bid to win a mayoral election and hinder a local corruption ring.

To ALL who have DOGS AFRAID OF THUNDER. My friend has a dog that is terrified when it storms, shaking and running behind the couch and knocking lamps over, etc. Someone told her to run a dryer sheet over the dog. She tried it and it worked GREAT. She said she had to do it for about 20 min, but it did work.

we got the boomers and hail about 3 pm in Dallas….had to put Thunder Shirts on the Dachs and Aussie Cattle dog…the Dachs gets anxious, and the Aussie tries to “herd” her into tranquility…got the Thunder Shirts at Chewy.com and they are great, coupled with some “dog music” that I put on for them during big storms….and they settle down and nap…amazing way they have trained me.

    lilbirdee12โ€™s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

My friend and I went to see I Can Only Imagine today. There were more people in the theater than I have seen in the middle of the day. Everyone seemed to agree at the end it was a very good movie. Dennis Quaid played Bart’s horrible, mean, hateful father. And, he was despicable. I thought all the actors were very good and the story was so compelling. There are quite a few very sweet moments, especially two at the very end. I highly recommend it to everyone.
