In looking for Easter art online, I found various vintage Easter and religious cards. Many of these cards were lovely, but the color was wrong, and they were dirty &/or torn, so if need be, I “cleaned them up”, and will be posting them this Easter week.
This first one may not be considered the best artistically, but I really liked how it shows Mary’s sorrow, and how she brought the oil to the tomb. Before she knows Jesus has Risen, she offers to get His body, and take care of it, if they will just tell her where it is. Imagine going to a desert tomb on Sunday to finish the the preparation for burial that there was not time for on Friday, finding the body is not there, and then offering to move it back. How she would have moved the weight of an adult man, I have no idea, but I’m sure she would have mightily tried. Her love and devotion to Jesus deeply touches my heart.

Today’s painting is by an interesting artist. Stevan Dohanos (1907 – 1994) was an artist and illustrator of the social realism school, and attended the Cleveland School of Art. He worked in fine art as well as in commercial art. He was nationally known as an illustrator and magazine cover artist, especially for his over 125 Saturday Evening Post covers and several Don’t Talk set of World War II art. He was a founding faculty member of the Famous Artists School of Westport, Connecticut.
Dohanos worked for the Section of Painting and Sculpture of the U.S. Treasury Department, painting several post office murals, including those for West Palm Beach and Charlotte Amelie. In the 1960s he became chairman of the Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee, which selected art to appear on United States postage stamps. He selected art for over 300 postage stamps during the administration of seven Presidents of the United States and nine Postmaster Generals. In 1984, the Postal Service’s Hall of Stamps in Washington was dedicated in his honor.

    The Byzantine Rite;

    “Khrystos voskres”

    “Voistynu voskres”

At Easter one says “Khrystos voskres” (“Christ is risen!”) and responds “Voistynu voskres” (“He is truly risen”). This is used until the Feast of Ascension which is 40 days after Easter.

A happy and blessed Easter to all of you wonderful people.

  4. Don’t know how to put this, my friends. Last night at work, between 11 and midnight, I died. They found my body on the floor outside the kitchen. At some point I realized that nobody could hear me, or see me. Yet here I am. I can still eat, drink, sleep, defecate, and manipulate physical objects. I picked up a pencil, and wrote, “WAIT, I DIED?” Our bartender said “yes”. I asked, “WHEN? WHERE?” and he said what I just toId you. I just woke up and let Tripod inside. I don’t know if he can hear or see me either. He acted mighty strange when I opened the doors, and still is.

Question is: why am I still here?

Stella, my Mom’s number is 352——-771———8400. Please call and confirm. I’d text, but if I really have died, it would unduly freak them out.

You are here our dear Wooly. We can hear you and talk to you. Relax, which may seem hard to do, but pray. Take care of yourself physically, eat some good food. Sometimes dreams can seem so very real, perhaps that is it, if you’re tired or stressed people can dream even when awake. My prayers are with you today on this Easter day, a day of renewal and new beginnings Wooly, a day of great love God gave for us all.

Please check in with us today if you have the time.

wooly, it is alcoholic delusion, paranoia connected with brain dementia that is likely temporary, but is the end result of practicing self medication with booze. It is like DTs without the shakes…many wake up thinking they killed someone last night, but have nothing but the fear and dread of trying to find out what actually happened.

you likely need some help other than a bunch of friends and merely believing in your ability to conquer this thing alone.

very best wishes, and hope for you. There is a life out here.

I’d put some chopped fresh basil and garlic powder into the crust though we’re getting so lazy we generally buy one of those ‘crusts in a bag’ now rather than make the crust. Surprised me – didn’t know that 9×13 baking pan we have is a Detroit pizza pan…if I try this I guess I gotta buy another one so there’ll be pizza for someone else.

Spoent much of last night drinking beer with an old friend – a primary target in both the Danziger Bridge and Glover incidents during Katrina. He was the ranking individual in the group that Eric Holder himself stood on the NOLA Fefderal Courthouse steps and pontificated about nailing to the wall. Holder, the Bureau and Federal Persecutor’s office spent weeks preparing the lynching…and failed.
The jury aquitted him – for the 4th or so time on the same basic charges (that was Fefderal andstate charges) and judge was upset at the persecution’s handling and presentation on the case. The judges ‘critique’ of the Fed’s case was more damning than the Fed’s case against the police officers involved.
My friend suffered under some ten years of prosecution at the State and Federal levels, was aquitted at EVERY trial and spent a large amount of money defending himself he’ll never get back. He had to resign from NOPD to save his pension as the pols in the department who’d pushed this political witch hunt from Day One were working overtime to fire him. He spent a few years working odd jobs before another department hired him – the heads of SOs/PDs know if an officer’s problems are political or not – and he’ll have to work well past his regular retirement date to play catchup, but he survived some ten years of unrelenting political persecution and came out whole. It can be done.

        To serve and protect…
He was one of the NOPD who didn’t break and run and commandeered a school and set it up as an operational police unit where his SWAT and others could sleep, get fed, get replacement clothes and supplies – it morphed into the destroyed cities biggest police command post where not only NOPD could group but the on-loan police from Fed agencies and frtom other states could bunk and operate out of.
One of my all-time-fondest memories period is, in November 2005, he used what he could beg, borrow and scrounge – plus buy out of his own pocket – to set up a Thanksgiving Day dinner at the schoo/command post. Families who had barely, if at all, seen each other and their first responder mates could sit down to dinner at elementary school bench tables in the middle of a devsstated city and have a meal together. Wive, hubbies, kids – my Mom even came in from Florida – and be together, for the first time in months, for av meal together.
The PD brass, city pols and military poohbahs and their families celebrated in the luxury French Quarter hotel they were set up in, rank and file scrounged. Your political leaders at work.

Oh definately, he went thru ten years of vhell. A big chunk of why the local pols went after him in particular was that he documented what went on during Katrina and put together a presentation on it. It blew the pol’s self-serrving BS ‘How Great We Were’ narrative right outta the water – and he presented it (when asked) at a number of venues around the country. That didn’t go over too well but then truth never does in NOLA politics. He made himself some powerful enemies.
Years asfter the state cleared him and the others in trial for the incidents the pols and their local press supporters tottered off to DC to pressure the Feds to take action. By then one of the oldline, major NOLA political figures was in Obama’s inner circle and the question is how much this personj influenced national-level pols to push the case to DoJ. As DoJ was then headed by Holder who was part of the POtuS’s reinvigorated early 70’s ‘Kill The Pigs!’ movement it’s no wonder they saw the NOLA police as low-hanging fruit.

Love this picture. I know some little girls who will too. Almost all my family was with us a mass this morning. We filled up a pew and a half. I wish all had been there. Out of the six children with us, five were fairly well behaved. That one though, we won’t talk about him. 😀

God answered many prayers on his behalf. I am guessing he smiled at the tempest. Some of the parishioners on the other hand…

So happy for you, Menage! Easter blessings! We had quite a few cranky kids in the packed church for mass this morning. And a few cranky adults after the long-winded welcome that included specific mention of every Oppressed Group that the liberal priest could think of. DH leaned over and whispered “Pope Francis musta written that welcome speech.”

    Faithless in Holy Week

    https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/04/faithless_in_holy_week.html

The FBI, which has in its ranks many good accountants, has apparently done a reasonable job on tracking terrorist finances. It has been a bust in “disrupting” terrorism. As noted, they missed the Pulse shooter. The undercover agent assigned to the group that tried to kill Pamela Geller encouraged them and never did a thing to stop them or even to alert authorities to the attack. Then there was the Tsarnaev case, where ignoring Russian warnings, the FBI sat by and the brothers murdered three men (and got away with it due to fumbling by the Boston law enforcement agencies) and proceeded in time to bomb a marathon route,

I won’t even go into the number of times where the FBI agents entrapped mentally deficient men into acts for which they then took credit for stopping. But there have been many such incidents: Jerry Drake Varnell, a paranoid schizphrenic, in 2017, the depressive Aby Rayyan in 2016, the delunsional Sami Osmakac in 2012, and Peyton Pruitt, who suffers from “mental retardation, autism, and attention deficit disorder,” in 2015. …

Hmmmm…the 1991 case of Zein Isa beating his daughter to death while the FBI listened in, the 1994 case of NOPD officer Len Davis ordering a hit on a woman threatening to report him to internal affairs (she was killed) while the FBI listened in, the whole business with DoJ and Janet Reno neutering the infiltration of the group who did the first WTC bombing. Getting to look like a pattern.

****NOTE: I generally cringe at mentioning the first WTC bombing as I did it once, a few years ago over at CTH, and had some lurker flame the (BLEEP) outta me as, he explained, there was only one bombing and that was in 2001! Aside from the technical issue of 2001 not really being a bombing I find myself suffering from PTSD (post troll stress disorder) when mentioning the first attack on the WTC.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
