Good Morning, Colonel. Capetown at dawn is the picture title. (Right click the picture and choose “open link in new tab”. The new tab has the pic info!) I think of you often and always say a prayer.
Lots and LOtS of jet activity around here which, according to plane tracker, includes UK Globemaster IIIs and Navy 707s….in twenty years I’ve never heard this amount of traffic. Things that make you want to go ‘hmmmm’.

Good afternoon. I had to run to town and go to my most hated place, WalMart.
Got a laugh out of it though. This older lady and teenager were walking around looking for ingredients to make a cake. I heard the older one saying, “it said we needed a cake mix and ingredients listed on box and we need two containers of icing if we’re making a layered cake. This says we need water, oil and eggs. I have no idea where oil is or what kind of oil.” Then they start wandering off looking for oil. I keep going laughing to myself and then I run into them again and she asks me, “do you know where to find oil?” I had heard the conversation already so I told her it was down the baking aisle, the same aisle they got the cake mixes on. She says, “this box doesn’t say what kind of oil, do you know what kind of oil?” I told her vegetable oil would work. She says, “oh good so it’s not in the auto stuff?” I told her nope I don’t think it would taste very good if you put motor oil in it.
I seriously hope they were joking if not there are some dumb people in the world.

We’re they wearing Hillary t-shirts ? If so the question was sincere on their part.

Nope, just regular clothes. I honestly couldn’t decide if they were joking or not because listening to them talk about making a cake it honestly sounded like they looked it up on the internet because they had never baked one before.
On the other hand the one woman looked to be in her 60’s so surely it’s not possible for someone that has been on this earth for 60 years to have never baked a cake or watched someone make a cake.
I really want her to have been joking.

True. I just can’t imagine being that stupid though.
However, I was reading how to mix an insecticide we have to spray the pasture for ticks this evening. Trying to find the directions I read the warning. After all the normal stuff about not getting on skin and in eyes it said in bold letters, DO NOT DRINK. Now who in their right mind would need to be told not to drink poison? You know though someone did otherwise it wouldn’t be on the warning label in such simple terms. Oh and it also cannot be sold in California and it contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer.

Now who in their right mind would need to be told not to drink poison?
No one in their right mind but we have about 25% of the country still lamenting their fact that the Russians stole the election from their Queen Hillary and put friend of the Kremlin (Ha ha I am mid first tea and I typed “Gremlin” had to stare at it for a while to figure out what was wrong with the word 🙃) anyhow it’s a mad mad world full of ignorant kooks.

I’m just often amazed when reading warning labels and wonder who did that?
It’s why I say we should remove warning labels and we could rid the world of idiots. 🙂
As for the Russians the funniest to me is FB, like a meme on FB is going to make my decision on who to vote for. When they were pushing that one so hard I got a good laugh out of it.

Yikes!!!! My new favorite way to shop at Walmart is to order it online and go pick it up. Saves time and keeps me from a lot of frustration.

Same here. Not so much chance to catch the flu. Less frustration. And, for me, right now, it has been a blessing because I have been having a problem walking because of my left knee. Also, every time I notice I need something, I just put it on the list until I am ready to send the order in.

Around here they only offer that sparingly. I didn’t know that until my daughter was telling me about her friend who had a sick child. She needed to go grocery shopping and didn’t want to take her child, but also didn’t want to have to wait until her husband got home from work.
So she got online and did her shopping, after she put everything in her cart and started the process to pick it up it told her she was limited to 15 items on pickup orders.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Weird. Our only limitation at Walmart for pickup is min. $30. I talked to one of the guys who has brought out my order several times and seems to be very knowledgeable. He says this has been so successful in our area, that they are training other stores to do it. Remember, we have a lot of seniors here, but to be honest, most of the people I see picking up are younger people with families getting huge amounts of groceries.
LikeLike
They’ve just started it in this area and it’s only a few stores.

Evidently the closest one to me is the only on in our area. It was a test case, I think. It has worked out much better than they ever expected, I think, since they have plans to put the program in other stores here.
LikeLike
Maybe they have different rules for different stores.
I’ve never tried it and the store closest to me doesn’t do it.
I don’t buy much food at WalMart because I can’t stand WalMart. If it’s only grocery items I need I just go to our local grocery store. I can get in and out in half the time it takes in WalMart, some things cost a little more, but other things actually cost less so the total cost averages out about the same.

I don’t like to buy fresh stuff or meat at Walmart, but canned goods…..and wine are ok.

We always look at our kids and decide which doelings we want to keep, the criteria has changed up a little this year though. One little doeling we weren’t going to keep is now on the keep list because she’s the grandkids favorite. My grandson was asking me the other day what I was doing on my computer and I told him somebody was buying one of the goats so I was putting him on hold for them. So yesterday when he started begging to keep this little goat and Gracie kept saying goat over and over I told him he could keep her. He said, “you go put her on hold for me and Gracie on your computer so nobody buys her.” lol

My daughter and I were out in the pasture this evening with the kids and their Daddy walked in and Gracie who had not seen him all day just about jumped out of her Mommy’s arms. It was kind of funny because we hadn’t noticed him so she startled us when she screeched then started laughing and of course her Mommy barely caught her.
My grandson loves his Daddy and is always happy to see him, but nothing like Gracie. She is a Daddy’s girl.

Per Wikipedia re Ides
Ides did not occur on a specific day, but in the earliest calendars were tied to the first full moon. In the case of March, the first full moon of the year, as the calendar started in March. The Romans did not number the days of the month sequentially, instead they counted back from three fixed points: Nones (5th or 7th), Ides (13th or 15th) and Kalends (1st of every month).
Way too much math for me. I’ll stick with the printed calendars I get at my car repair shop. Czar also gets a picture of a nice young lady in a bathing suit on a classic car.

Yes. The problem is I could never drive there myself, and DH only has so much time off of work. We also would have to clean the odors out of it, learn how to drain the water etc, figure out where to park it at night that would be safe to sleep or clean the asthma-inducing fragrances out of a hotel room each night, and hope we did not breakdown or run into some sort of protest on the way. It takes about 4 days to drive there. The train also takes days, has it’s problems, and is expensive.

Today we have another picture by Martin Driscoll “Showing the Horses”
Here is a real life Irish Purebred –
She’s flying!
But seriously, the much loved Traditional Irish Sport Horses are being lost to breeding with warmbreeds.
https://horsenetwork.com/2016/06/demise-irish-sport-horse/
The Demise of the Irish Sport Horse
“We are on the verge of losing these valued bloodlines forever.”
Phyllis Dawson 2 years ago
I recently spent a week in Ireland shopping for young event prospects and was shocked to find the traditionally bred Irish Sport Horse is seriously endangered. Due to the infusion of European warmbloods into the breeding programs, the ISH breed is being diluted as more of the draught and sport horse mares are being crossed with warmbloods rather than TBs. The result is fewer and fewer of the true, traditional Irish Sport Horses are being produced. We are on the verge of losing these valued bloodlines forever. On my most recent shopping trip I visited 17 different yards [in] Ireland. I looked at a total of 67 horses for sale, and of those only 12 of them were traditionally Irish bred. The rest were warmblood crosses. Irish horses take a bit longer to develop than most other breeds, and it seems many buyers do not understand this. They are attracted to the flashy movement and jump many warmbloods show as 2 and 3-year-olds, rather than the prospect of waiting for the ISH to mature and reach full potential……but they [the cross breeds] often lack the gallop, stamina and heart needed at the highest levels of Eventing. The characteristics that give warmbloods that big trot with the long stride and slow tempo do not necessarily help them on the cross-country course or in the hunt field……
Sadly it is not only the Irish people that are being over-run by outsiders brought in, it is also their beloved horses. Even in the comments section of the article one person foolishly wrote: “we have to move to more of a European warmblood.” Another part of the Irish culture would be gone.

I didn’t post anything about the student protest yesterday, because I don’t view it as a legitimate protest. The schools encouraged the students to protest, and their absences were excused by the schools. My grandson’s school was one of those, and I asked what provisions were made for students who chose not to protest. Apparently those students would stay in their first period classes for the duration. This is what I wrote on Facebook about it:
My opinion, and only mine. It is great that students want to protest peacefully for something they believe in.
I don’t think protests should be organized by public schools, or that teachers and schools should be encouraging or pushing students politically in one direction or another.
If students want to protest, let them organize outside of school, and outside of normal school hours. Saturday would be good. If they choose to take a day off school to protest, it shouldn’t be excused. School days are for school, just as work days are for work for adults. If I wanted to protest on a work day, I would have to use a vacation or sick day, or not be paid.

Yeah, it was heavily school oirganized. My GGS’s school had them step out for ‘school safety’ while later portraying it as an anti-gun protest. Last kid in that school out knoweingly marching forgun control would be my GGS.

wonder if any kid chewed a pop tart into the shape of an assault weapon and got put in jail.

which bathroom does a pistolette have to use at school? or is it teacher’s choice…

Depends if the pistolette self-identifies as a pistol-packing momma or a pistolero.

Haven’t been next door lately but we all have reason for optimism.
The world is aflame and things are going to go downhill very rapidly or things are going to continue to go slowly painstakingly upward. There is no more middle ground so let the sun shine!
Tomorrow will be interesting.
Macabe will lose his pension, as he should is my guess. That is Macabe’s fault. Flynn lost everything that is also Macabe’s fault. Think about how angry certain people are with James Comey, Comey had an opportunity to do the right thing and instead he spit into the wind and tugged on Superman’s cape.
The democrats are working hard to steal the special election but the mamby-pamby kiss butt republicans have lost as much control of the narrative as have the democrats.
Things are looking up for America 🙂 .

I think this is the most concise commentary I have seen re the psychology of the goofy non-responses to mass shootings of the past few years.
I remember this “first one” clearly, and how, while it remained shocking, it was not considered a cultural event in any way. It was simply considered horrible and it was dealt with.

That article is so interesting and makes perfect sense. With all this talk about what to do about school shootings, I wish there was a chart showing age, gun used or other, meds he was on, drug use, etc. It is so irritating to watch all the discussion of “take the guns away” when you know that isn’t what the underlying problem is. Of course, we know, gun confiscation is what the left is about. Period.

As I’ve said before, Snowflake doctrine does not allow for assigning guilt to and individuals when there’s a perfectly good inanimate object to blame.
Yesterday the local news had tearful in nercity black Moms boo-hoo-hooing about their childen ‘killed by gun violence’. Uhhhhh…’scuse me black mommas, your children weren’t killed by guns, they were killed by members of the far-too-large feral black youth cadre.

This article caught my eye. Of course, if you don’t read the whole thing, it appears that the black boy is being discriminated against. And, of course, his mother immediately thinks that. However, it isn’t true at all. He has stepped up to help. Very courageous and sad at the same time because of his reasoning. She has to be very proud of him and herself for raising such a child.

Morning Stellar friends. A last bit of Iditarod stuff. Aliy crossed the finish line last night about 9:20 pm. Here’s a couple of photos.
Nice sunset going on in the last photo–spring’s definitely coming! Allen was there at the finish line to greet her.

Thank Tundra for your inside view! Aliy looks beautiful! Will she sleep for 3 days or be so excited not sleep for 3 day?
And thanks for the poodle link, the chap was certainly interesting! The Johnny Carson bit really gave flavor to his personality.

Glad you enjoyed it all, lovely!
Aliy is an amazing woman, and one I am proud to call my friend. She is probably the strongest woman I’ve ever known. She is 6 feet tall and bench presses 250 lbs. She is kind and helpful, and seemingly always cheerful. And she loves her dogs. Thanks for helping me pull for her!

It was my pleasure Tundra, your view brings the race alive for me. 6 feet tall and bench press 250 pounds!!? Neat, for some reason I just saw that sunny smile and thought she was somewhat petite like a teenager. She looks like a happy happy soul!

I think it’s sad also. I can’t imagine the pressure that they are under. When she opened the letter with the white powder in it and was taken to the hospital she had to be terrified, imaging her 5 children and all those thoughts that must have been racing through her brain.
God’s peace and speed to that family. Perhaps, just perhaps, it is a strategic move to let her and the children have a safe place of their own away from the chaos and hatred, that is what my artistic romantic heart wants this to be.

I have been getting those spam “your phone is infected with viruses” messages nonstop next door today. Only next door once I click on posts. 1st time its ever been a problem. Because I only use 1 device, my phone, and no problems here, I have to assume theres a problem on CTH.
Any idea Stella or Menagerie?

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
