Or once we had a crazy cow that we rounded up and put in a corral to take to next sale. She disappeared and then we got a call asking if we were missing a cow. She was seen jumping over fence after fence to get back to the pasture she was in.
So we figured out how she got out of the corral. lol

Next time we went ahead and loaded her up and took her straight to the sale and said if she came back again we’d just re-sale her again. lol

Guy we bought our property from tried to ranch buffalo. He put up a big fence, about 5 feet tall, thought that would do it. Nope, they jumped right over it and could be found wandering along/in the road.
He swapped buffalo for some exotic deer in a big penned area. Worked fine for a while until one of the buck, during rutting season, put an antler through his midsection and almost killed him. Best intentions and all that.

Normally cows don’t jump like deer, but this cow was nutty. I’ve seen cows go through fences and have even seen them climb fences. This was the first to clear fences.

Whether it’s a crazy cow, crazy goat or crazy horse, you just can’t have them mixed with your other animals. They will always have the entire herd acting stupid. That’s why she was headed for the sale barn, she just thought she would show us. We won in the end and I’m sure she immediately was turned into hamburger.

I know a guy who raises buffalo, he keeps his in a steel fence set in concrete. He said when he first started raising them he thought if a fence would hold a cow it would hold a buffalo, but he found out he thought wrong.
Folks never think about how dangerous deer are. Some breeds of goats are as bad as deer, especially when it comes to rut. They hook you with those horns and they can do some damage.

Today’s paintings are Bringing the Cows Home, and Her Pup, by Martin Driscoll (1939-2011)

Martin Driscoll’s paintings draw from both his Irish and American roots. Born in New York, Driscoll has dual citizenship, thanks to his Gaelic-speaking mother. His training is American in the tradition of the great illustrators from Norman Rockwell to Frank Reilly, with whom he studied at the Art Students League. Driscoll has been called “The Irish Norman Rockwell”. Driscoll paid for his education with a night job at Pan Am Airlines that led to work in the airline industry for 27 years. “I went to art school not thinking of becoming a commercial artist,” he said. “I wanted to learn something I would love all my life.” Eventually, more responsibility with the airline industry made it impossible for him to continue in both worlds. In 1978 he stopped painting seriously, not resuming until 1996. When he began again he expected to have to find his technique again, but the results astonished him. “I had been painting in my mind all along and my body remembered what to do,” he said. “I was much better than before.”

“For me, a successful painting is one that stands on its own visual merits. It requires no verbal explanation or justification. The image reflects an understanding of composition, shape, relationships, and color that is inherently obvious. The skill of the artist’s brush is evident in every stroke. And, the passion that went into creating the work is captured on the canvas and emanates to the viewer. This is what I am drawn to as an art enthusiast and what I strive for as a painter. I hope you enjoy viewing my work as much as I enjoy painting it.”. ~ Martin Driscoll

Wish I knew how to copy the tweets. This is Neil de Grasse Tyson’s reaction to the death of Stephen Hawking.

His passing has left an intellectual vacuum in his wake. But it’s not empty. Think of it as a kind of vacuum energy permeating the fabric of spacetime that defies measure. Stephen Hawking, RIP 1942-2018.

Agnostic, atheist, whatever. When someone dies, maybe you should just say goodbye and leave it at that. Otherwise you sound ridiculous trying to not offer Christian hope as you babble about the fabric of space time. Which, in your world, at this moment, has zilch meaning.

Problem I see with ‘scientists’ like Hawking and Sagan is they believe they’ve discovered the ‘what’ but dismiss the ‘who’. They can conjecture that the universe was created by a Big Bang and evolved in a certain order (see Genesis ) and thayt’ds that, they can dismiss, out-of-hand, anything but the natural order (which they can’t explain) behind the Bang.
Even now they postulate that the early light, radiation and other effects they observe ‘prove’ there was a Big Basng and therefore no Creator. Sounds to me like were they to see the oil stains, tire leaning up magainst the garage and half-full gas can on the lawn that my truck spontaneously materialized and there was no plant in Detroit.

Ironic, given that’s their work, at least in some part, rested on Georges Lemaitres postulations and proofs. Excuse me, that pull be Fr. Lemaitre. He had not trouble seeing both worlds, even when Einstein couldn’t see, with his own work, what it meant.

Ohio town must pay back millions of fines collected from speed cameras, court rules

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/03/14/ohio-town-must-pay-back-millions-fines-collected-from-speed-cameras-court-rules.html

In Chicago, camera vendor Redflex won in 2003 a $120 million contract to install 384 cameras and collected more than $400 million in traffic fines. It was eventually revealed that Redflex bribed Chicago City hall manager John Bills with $2,000 for every camera installed as well as giving him vacations, a condominium in Arizona and Mercedes among other favors.

Bills was eventually sentenced to 10 years in federal prison in a corruption scandal that rocked the city, while two Redflex higher-ups were sent to jail and the company was forced to pay $20 million to the city to settle a lawsuit.

Redflex did not respond to Fox News’ request for comment.

Thanks Stella, par for Chicago. Really where I got my ticket was an unprotected left turn, only one car could turn and that car could only turn after the light turned red and after the last car coming from the opposite direction finished running through the red light.

I heard that there was a class action suit in Chicago about the red light cameras because a defendant is supposed to be able to confront their accuser, and you cannot confront a camera, I don’t know what is happening with that.

I think that the Mayor and the members of the Anchorage Equal Rights Commission should know that we’re watching….

The AERC is governed by nine commissioners appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Anchorage Assembly. The Commission meets on a regular basis in the Mayor’s Conference Room at City Hall (632 W. Sixth Ave., Suite 830). Meeting dates and times are published in the Municipal Public Notices. The AERC also has six professionals on staff, including an Executive Director and Staff Attorney, three investigators, an Intake and Outreach Coordinator, and a Docket Clerk.

You may contact the AERC staff and obtain information about the next Commission meeting at 343-4342 or aerc@muni.org.
      Director: Pamela Basler
      632 W 6th Avenue, Suite 110, Anchorage, AK 99501907 343-4342

Here’s the email I just sent off:
      Ms. Basler,

An article regarding the demands of a violent man who was denied access to a battered women’s shelter and his subsequent complaint to your Commission has made it all the way out here to the East Coast.

If the article I read is correct, the man was removed from a male shelter for being drunk and disruptive. Miraculously, he immediately determined that he was actually a female and presented himself to The Hope Center. I hope that if the story details are factual you will rule against his complaint. In the event that you rule in his favor I and many others will hold you accountable for any ‘unintended consequences’ of that decision.

      Sincerely,

Well, this one will be a real mess. I want to say that even the lefties, in theses #metoo times, would stand up for battered women. But I don’t believe they have backbone enough. Or sense.

It seems to me that when you call males men, and females women, and you operate the world, as it always has operated, along those common sense lines, you simply aren’t going to have about half the ridiculous crap that somebody somewhere will take to court. And some crazy judge somewhere will come up with yet another judicial fantasy action.

Until these times we are living in, it seems to me that the vast majority of parents realized that it was beneficial to teach their kids early on that no one always gets what they want. Now it seems that we are enacting laws and using our court system to guarantee a bunch of mentally defective people things they can never really have, and further, force those opposing such actions to actually break their own conscience, disrupt their lives, and be a part of this harmful fantasy. Or, the people who refuse to step into lala land lose their livelihood, business, and homes.

In the end, the only reason this is all happening is because some under developed over grown child wants something that they can’t have.

And we have stupid courts that can’t think.

Who’s surprised by this? Really? Is anyone? This is what I expect to see, not because I explicitly thought, “I know this is going to happen” but because this is the extension of lunacy. And these battered women are caught in the crosssfire because no one had the courage in the legal system to tell the completely insane freaks that they were wrong.

Sometimes “I told you so” doesn’t begin to cover it.

The old Big Charity hospital in NOLA was a mainstay for training military trauma docs for years, knifings, stabbings and shootings were the rule. When new Charity opened they put in multiple Level 1 trauma centers and training possibilities were met by the expanded efforts of The Usual Suspects.
As I’ve mentioned before the quantity and quality of these trauma centers have served to make NOLA a safer city in that while the number of shootings yearly has risen the number of deaths has allowed the city to claim the murder rate is down. Thanks, Mitch.

As predicted, Joar Ulsom won the 2018 Iditarod at 3:00 this morning. Congratulations to him, he ran a beautiful race!

Nic Petit was second, and Mitch Seavey was third. No other teams have reached Nome yet, but the next two are about an hour away. Pete Kaiser will finish 5th this year; he is too far behind the guy in front of him to catch him, and too far in front of the guy behind him to be caught.

Aliy is still in 15th position, finishing her 8 hour rest at White Mountain. She is still in a tight group of 4 teams, and could move up one position or back two. She’ll have a top 20 finish either way.

Mike Williams, Jr, is in 29th position, currently resting at Koyuk. And Aliy’s husband Allen Moore had to scratch at Kaltag, the last checkpoint on the Yukon River. His dogs were fine; he was the one who was sick. He woke up from a nap after arriving in Kaltag with a high fever and a lung infection which started at Grayling, the previous checkpoint. He knew he was too sick to care for the dogs properly, so he withdrew. He and the dogs flew on to Nome and will be there to greet Aliy when she mushes under the burled arch.

All told, a very exciting race with lots of chills and spills. Thanks, all of you, for following it with me!

    Go Aliy! Go dogs!
