There are places I’ll remember

    How do we keep our kids safe from mass murders?

      I see where she’s coming from, but I don’t really agree with her. This is the perfect time for a rant, especially since the school was blaming everyone in America, and liberals are blaming people like me. And I don’t like her questions, either. Her Very Long List of Questions was deeply irritating. (When I was in college and was writing college-level papers, I was informed that I should never ask a question I was not going to answer in the paper. And this list is way too long to be rhetorical.) The only sane question she asked was “why do these shooting keep happening in gun-free zones?” Good luck getting an honest answer about that from anyone on the Left side of the aisle.

      What do we do? For starters, hold the school’s feet to the fire over this. An email saying “don’t let him on campus” is NOT sufficient. There was a lot more they could have done. Reporting threats to the police, for starters. paternpuzzler went last night and found sundance’s smoking gun regarding Broward County’s political correctness. Maybe if the school had actually turned him in, this might not have happened.

      Wanna know how to protect people? Give them guns. You cannot get liberals to grasp that you are much safer when you are somewhere that is NOT a gun free zone or when hordes of NRA members are around. During Obama’s reign of terror, murders started to spike in Indianapolis, and one year during O’s reign, the NRA convention came in. We joked that the safest time to be in Indianapolis was when the NRA convention was there. These nutjob mass shooters like soft targets, like schools, and movie theaters. It throws off a nutjob’s desire to be famous if he only gets to kill a couple of people before someone else pulls out a gun and drops him.

      I’m tired of this. And nothing will change, liberals will wail about the need for gun control, the NRA/ gun rights supporters et all will go out AGAIN and point out that all these mass shootings keep happening in gun-free zones, which is a concept liberals will never grasp because it interferes with their worldview. Nothing will change.

      But next time, like this time, and the time before this, I’ll be expected to feign shock and sorrow over something that was preventable.

      We could start by taking bacvl local control of OUR kids and OUR schools. If you go back through the Communist, Marxist, Leninist, Maoist, all of the ‘ist’ writings, you see that where they hope to convert the adults that adult conversion is a stopgap measure to their ultimate goal – the ownership and indoctrination of the young.
      Murder and death in general has always been a means to their end, with age and gender never a determinant. What could scare the urban/suburban parents more than the thought of their children being killed in school? What would drive these parents to surrender their rights and obligations as parents and citizens, rushing to the safety of a benign dictatorship where professional Leftists trade security for measures of freedom?
      Look at the Hollyork Useful Fools backing a non-Constitutional ruling class of ‘experts’ The same celebs who sot the TV and movies designed for youth with almost nonstop gore and violence from start to finish. “Oh”, they say, “It’s not violence violence, it’s violence with a positive social engineering end!”‘. “It shows the futility of violence to youth!” BS, adults with fully functional frontal cortexes maybe yes but to the under-20ish target audience, no. They are stimulated by and engrossed in it. Same goes for the video games that all seem to have killing (but that’s ‘pretend’ killing of monsters with a positive social goal) and scantily clad female figures galore. It’s Trump’s fault.

        Yes! I said Corey Lewandowski got good training for a presidential election by watching the school board elections and meetings here in town!
        I’m going to be watching the local school board broadcast on Tuesday. The school board voted to let children use whatever bathrooms etc they “identify” as, versus what their actual gender is. They voted for this with NO public input! There is an election next month. There is a meeting for public input on Tuesday. I’m going to sit home with my popcorn and watch the fireworks. (I can’t go to the town hall its old and the mold makes me sick. There are plenty of upset parents who actually have kids in the schools.) What is sad is the town actually voted for Trump, and nationally for conservatives in general.

          The Board yes BUT you have to grab the teachers and school administrators. I’m tired how :HI, I’m Joe A****le the svchool’s BS Allocations Officer, how may I blow smoke up your butt and make you go away?” School officials charged with enforcing programs seem to spend as much time denying your access to them as they do actually performing the work they’re paid for.
          Wanna cause Board members and school admin to choke? Start filing FOIA requests for how Fed funds earmarked for special ed are expended – detailed records.

He wrote me a note asking to meet with me privately. I declined. Soon after he got a job at a different town.

    A comment about ‘If you see something, say something” from a former teacher:

    This was MY experience, and I will lay out just the facts and you can draw your own conclusions about what is going on with mental health issues and students in our public schools
    I was a 4th grade AAP teacher in Fairfax County several years ago, and had a student in my class that almost drove me to have a nervous breakdown (one of the major reasons I resigned).

    Almost every day, this student would disrupt the class with violent outbreaks (yelling, throwing objects, etc). He choked other students, manufactured weapons out of pencils and paper clips and pokes other students as they passed by, slapped classmates across the face, tripped students…and the list goes on. Each time I referred him to administration, he was sent to speak with the counselor, and returned with stickers and rewards. And the behaviors continued.

    I requested that a behavior analyst visit to observe and make recommendations for a behavioral plan. He came and stayed in my class for 40 minutes, talked to the counselor the entire time, and recommended that I not pair him with boys during group work.

    I was ultimately able to go through the proper channels and have him assessed by the school psychologist, and he was diagnosed with some type of Detachment Disorder. However, no accommodations or alternative placement recommendations were made, other than to visit with the counselor 40 minutes a week.

    And the behaviors continued. Every day someone was accosted- verbally or physically, but nothing was done to remedy the environment. Parents appealed to me, but my hands were tied as a teacher.

    At one point, he stated, “I wish my teacher was dead,” which prompted the students to let me know what (they were afraid). I alerted the counselor, and she told me that he said, “I didn’t threaten her, I just WISHED it.” So nothing was done. I reminded her that he had an IQ over 140, and she laughed and said, “Oh yes…he is so smart, isn’t he.” And that was that.
    From that point on, I began to lose sleep, my hair fell out and I had nightmares fearing that he would act on his ‘wish.” It impacted my life severely.

    Ultimately, nothing was done and all complaints fell on deaf ears. At one point, one of the administrators commented that perhaps he would feel better if he was in a less threatening environment. This was an indication to me that they were placing the blame for his behavior on me. At that point, I decided that I would not return to teaching the following year.
    They were the most horrible 180 days of my 25 year teaching career.

    The irony is, many of the staff made similar comments about this student regarding likelihood that he would commit some type of crime in the future.

    ***The message here is: Parents, if you hear your child complaining about a student with abhorrent behaviors, SAY SOMETHING. Teachers are often limited to what they can do, but admin is more likely to take action when parents pursue an issue. Maybe, just maybe, it can prevent another horrible tragedy.

      See something say something is useless at this point. The Social Justice Warriors, The Pharisees have deemed the seer as the problem, a racist, a Islamaphobe, a person who creates a hostile environment, a xenophobe, anything other than a conscientious citizen with something of value to give to law enforcement.

      Recently (maybe 2 years ago) we had a violent 20 something year old kid, he was involuntary committed because he was not in touch with reality. The facility held him for the mandatory 36 hours and deemed him safe to rejoin society, gave him a pat on the back, a bottle full of pills and said good luck.

      The facility did not contact the people who signed documents to have him committed. They did not contact local police ( a police officer had to sign to have him committed also. They did not provide any transportation for him to get from the facility to whatever his destination may have been.

      A pat on the back, some pills, a promise that he would take them, “Good luck Johnny Boy!” and he was on his way. So he walked and walked and walked until he came to a farm house and with his pills in his pocket, his pat on his back still warm, he beat to death the elderly couple who lived in the farm house.

      (CNSNews.com) – Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel on Thursday called for more first responders, more mental health treatment, and more power for police to involuntarily commit people who raise what he called “red flags.” The Baker Act in Florida [already] allows law enforcement or medical professionals to confine a person involuntarily…but you have to have a reason, you have to be able to articulate that they’re a threat to themselves or a threat to someone else.”
      They HAD PLENTY OF REASON – THE AUTHORITIES JUST DID NOTHING. Listen to yesterdays Jeff Kuhner. His statement on how they won’t act because of political correctness causing them to lose their jobs seems about right. Political Correctness Kills. The teen was obviously mentally ill from his social media posts, speech and actions in real life..

      Okay.

      I guess my reaction to this is, if my child comes home and tells me that someone in their class tried to strangle them, and I come in and talk with the principal and was told that the student got sent to “counseling,” and was put back in the class after that I’m going to be put out. Extensively. Especially if my child comes home the next day and says that their classmate was choked by the same student.

      The only question after that is, do I hire a lawyer and have them go in and explain why that thug had better not be in my kid’s class anymore, or just call the cops and report my child was assaulted on school grounds? Hmm…tough one. I lean towards the lawyer.

          So, here’s a question though: why are things like what was described in this teacher’s post even permitted past the first incident? If I am out at the local diner, and try and strangle someone, I’m going to be taken jail. No “counseling” no “talking to the therapist” just jail. IANALB, At the very least, what the teacher is describing the student as doing sounds like assault, which in turn makes the school’s actions look like criminal negligence: they knew this was happening, sent the child to “counseling” which did not help, he kept repeating the behavior. What if the classroom menace had seriously hurt someone? Or killed another student or the teacher?

          Why is it that students get suspended for making pop-tart guns, but the student in this story is allowed to go back to class and continue their behavior?

      FTA: One understands that not all mass murderers are psychotic. And yet, offering treatment to those who seem to be in the midst of a psychotic breakdown would be a good place to start. It would not have been a difficult diagnosis. Everyone who knew Cruz knew he was crazy… not just rebellious or strange. It pains one to say it but it is a lot easier and a lot more humane to treat incipient psychotics, even against their will, than it is to confiscate hundreds of millions of guns. The revolution in psychiatric treatment, initiated over forty years ago emptied out mental hospitals and made it extremely difficult to treat those who were manifestly deranged. It was mistake and ought to be corrected.

      You may remember our experience with behavior plans re: my GGS. Czarina and I had to go to the Federal DoE and start contacting lawyers before his school would even start an IEP. Only nearly TWO YEARS of our hounding, threatening legal action and driving 50+ miles one way on a regular basis to pound the table during meetings at the school (and they STILL need fine tuning) got results. Luckily Czarina is a person with a lot of knowledge in special ed so she caught their finagling and BS at every turn until they did what they received Federal monies to do.
      Schools are insular, unless they are wrestled to the ground they’ll never yield their powers to play god with our children, never admit that the PARENTS own the schools and THEY work for US. Sadly too many parents are lazy and just roll over.

        I was talking to a lawyer last year while waiting in doctor’s office. This lawyer specialized in family law. He said he sees often that it is the love of a grandparent, even if the child does not get to spend a lot of time with them, that is a great help to the child.

          Three of us, in the early 90s, got OPM to allow Federally employed grandparents taking care of their grandchildren to put them on their Federal health insurance as dependents. We just sent suggestions, with CCs to the appropriate Congressjerks, that if they provided over 50% of the child’s support that the child was a dependent under Federal regulation.
          We noticed how many women were taking full time care of their nieces, nephews and/or grandchildren while their parents were ‘gone’ for whatever reason.
          Grandparents taking care of kids isn’t that unusual, the first day the announcement was made that they could put the kids on their health insurance people were lined up down the hall.

        I wonder how many parents aren’t lazy, but are told “you don’t understand. We’re the educators; WE understand” and then they give up after they buy the line because they don’t know how to handle it. A pretty common slam against homeschooling is that parents won’t be able to properly educate the child because they aren’t teachers and they don’t know how teaching works.

        As G-d&Country said below, bless you both for being willing to go all the way, even when it was tough, or inconvenient, or when the school district was giving you the run around.

          Oh there’s a lot of that, that’s why there are so many parents’ groups dealing with that. Problem with a lot of these schools is they are in areas where the parent (frequently single-parent) types are not exactly education-heavy themselves…even if they do speak English.
          Some schools even try to get programs like mainstreaming to self destruct. They take ‘disruptive’ kids and put them into regular classes without specially trained sitters, disrupting the class, burning out the teachers and eventually irritating the **** (choice of fricative adjective yours) out of the parents. Parents go to Board who sends them to Congresspersons in attempts to get the law changed.
          I’m a firm believer in the idea that progs discovered it was too hard to bring certain groups into the 20thy (or 21st) century and get them to embrace education so rather than fight they found it easier to dumb down the achievers – equality is equality whether you raise the floor or lower the ceiling. We just happen to love knowledge.

    The more I think about Cruz and people like him the more convinced that the ONLY way to deal with the school shootings issue is to harden the target. We need more guns, not less – LOTS more. As rhea stated above, shooters are less likely to choose the target where they are more likely to be dropped by another gun carrier.

    The issue, at the crux of it, is that civil liberties prevail unless a law is broken. We have no laws that are allowed to cover multiple small and disparate offenses. These kinds of things are taken each on it’s own instance rather than in the aggregate, wherein a continuum would constitute an identification of the individual as a potential threat to the greater good. I don’t know how anyone could write such a legislative bill that stood a chance of becoming law.

    I don’t mean to be flip at all, but if this was the kind of atmosphere Cruz’ mother lived in at 68, she may have chosen death by flu as compared to the continued abuse her son likely put her through, based on this report:

    Details about the calls to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office — obtained from police records by CNN — were not immediately available and it was impossible to determine if all involved Cruz.

    But the nature of the emergencies at his Parkland home included “mentally ill person,” “child/elderly abuse,” “domestic disturbance” and “missing person,” KTLA reported.

      Easy one: Prog response to police/mental health/prosecutorial inaction is to have fewer guns so that chances of violent actions are fewer. After all, dead bodies in the pursuit of social perfection is an acceptable side effect of the process of dragging the mouthbreating public into the New World Order.

          We hear the same crap time and time again from the NOPD and city talking heads. Fact is that the huge violent crime rate in the city is NOT the result of hordes of law abiding citizens suddenly going off the deep edge, it’s young black thugs and older black scofflaws. You don’t get a description of the perp’s race on the news any more but once you hear the area the violent act took place you have a very good idea. Also don’t hear descriptions much anymore, instead they show the perps’ pictures and avoid the inevitable racist label for speaking the politically unspeakable.

    Beautiful photo, first thought though was how to get on the floating platform without knocking lanterns over. Staged I’m sure but still gorgeous.

    The one thing that really triggers me is injustice, as with most people. Still don’t know why this guy just doesn’t go in and blow it all sky high.

    Saw Howie come through yesterday, and must say now, I’m more in agreement with his view on this fellow. Had hoped for more.

      Oh ye of little faith. President Trump knows more about these people than they know about themselves. They are righting a wrong as deep as the Marianas Trench. Sessions tipped his hand.

      From a Breitbart interview;

      Attorney General Jeff Sessions told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview on Thursday that the Department of Justice was ending the “executive branch legal activism” of the previous administration, while also fighting the judicial activism of liberal judges.
      “I think the department did become too political” under President Barack Obama, Sessions said. “Essentially, it was executive branch legal activism. They would take cases or regulations or statutes and expand or redefine the meaning of words in them to advance the agenda that they thought ought to be advanced — an agenda that often had zero chance of passing Congress, where the elected representatives sit.

      “So you have an agenda, and you can’t get Congress to pass it, so you use unelected regulatory officials and lawyers to draft regulations and enforcement policies that carry out a political agenda that the people don’t favor.

      “And I think that was a factor in this past [presidential] election, and it was an issue that was known to a lot of business and legal experts. They saw this as a dangerous trend.”

      Sessions singled out President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program — which expires March 5 — as a primary example of “executive branch legal activism.” And he excoriated the courts for preventing President Donald Trump for withdrawing Obama’s policy.

      “[President Obama] said repeatedly that it was not legal, he couldn’t do it. Congress had took up an issue and it failed to pass. So they just did it anyway.

      “But now when we tried … to withdraw the DACA policy … we’ve been sued and judges have stopped simple withdrawal of the policy.”

      In other words the Trump administration is not chopping down a tree only to leave a stump and roots behind, the Trump administration is burrowing all around and amongst the roots and the tree will fall with a mighty mighty crash. From the roots to the tippy top leaf.

      That’d be me! Thanks, Stella. Two weeks until Iditarod starts! Once again I’ll be pulling for Aliy Zirkle and hoping this is (finally!) her year. Her husband, Allen Moore, won the Yukon Quest three days ago with a monster performance–over 6 hours ahead of the 2nd place finisher. And out of 13 teams who finished, he was the only musher to have all 14 dogs still in harness. That means their dogs are in great shape! Yahooooo, go Aliy!

    BTW this week Kuhner was also discussing how in Massachusetts now elders are being institutionalized against their wills (used to be kids) when they are not demented. Then they are put on psych drugs, and when they eventually get physically ill, they are given a few antibiotics, then killed with morpheme. (Usually they have some sort of money).
    Before I had asked who started this craziness in psychiatry. Was it one of the list of communist goals – I think it may have been. Kuhner – (who’s family came from a communist country) stated saying someone was crazy and putting them in an institution was a way to get rid of them.
    I do not like the “weaponization”, one way or another, of psychiatry – whether medicating and leaving out in society not being cared for people who need help, or forcibly institutionalizing and medicating people who do not need it.

        I absolutely agree with institutionalization when needed.
        We had to put my mom in a nursing home for dementia patients when we could no longer physically care for her. One time my husband and I together could barely keep her from running out onto a busy street. It was amazing how strong she could get. As I said I do NOT agree with medicating and leaving out in society and not caring for people who need help.
        The forcibly institutionalizing and medicating cases I referenced are with a particular lawyer and particular organization that has now done this with three seniors. Forcibly institutionalizing people when NOT needed has gone on since there have been institutions – usually caused by greed. Some people are bad and greedy, and will use any means necessary, even forcibly institutionalizing someone, to get what they want.
        Jeff Kuhner was also instrumental in the Justine Pellitier case.

    This must be when they were first born – they still have their tails! The tails are normally docked within the first two days.

    Please don’t misunderstand.

    It’s not a dog whistle for a feeling of nostalgia for a time where some Americans were favored over others.

    No. It’s about turning the country back over to We the People, as intended.

    America is a representative republic. We elect people to represent us – not rule over us.

    This is not a 2-class system where those whom we’ve elected have carte blanche.

    They are not special.

    Justice is blind.

    The intent was not for our elected representatives to be able to:
    • trade on insider information
    • sell our natural resources (for any reason, but particularly personal gain!)
    • create slush funds from tax dollars to pay hush money to cover up their bad behavior
    • walk away from crimes for which the rest of us would be convicted
    • create fake charitable foundations to sell American influence for personal gain (pay-for-play)
    • use our systems against us (voter fraud, immigration, electronic surveillance, health care, 2nd amendment, free press, courts, CFPB, etc)

    With today’s revelations, we are on our way to turning this around. FINALLY.
