A tree house, a free house,
A secret you and me house,
A high up in the leafy branches
Cozy as can be house.

A street house, a neat house,
Be sure and wipe your feet house
Is not my kind of house at all–
Let’s go live in a tree house.

Buried in the local news is an incident that shows how well your – or NOLA – police protect the public. Seems that over Mardi Gras an organized group of ATV and dirt bike riders took over some NOLA streets.
This isn’t unusual as street ATVers have been taking over parts of NOLA streets at night, and days in some areas, for well over a years now. About a year ago one caused an accident that killed a young woman and they’ve caused more than one accident. It’s strange how they went under news and police radar for so long but the permissive climate has apparently gone national. We not only had small groups blocking some city streets but a huge phalanx of them took over the elevated expressway that leads to the two bridges that connect the city, slowing traffic to a crawl and intimidating and threatening drivers.
Only one station pointed out that this gathering was put together on social media, nationwide, over about a 6 month period – they even had posters advertising it – kit was out there for everyone to see. People from around the US drove their ATVs and dirt bikes down here and generally had a grand old time. One would presume that our new-and-improved PD’s intel department would have caught this but apparently it slipped (?) under their Acme radar.
The jig was up when some ATVers went into the next parish and acted like fools on one of their main streets, even crashing into a deputy there who gave chase. Mistake they made was thinking that parish also didn’t take public safety seriously – bad mistake. They arrested the riders, one was illegally carrying a handgun, and the one who crashed into the officer will most likely be facing felony charges. One of the drivers arrested there was from DC and had recently been arrested there for illegal ATV riding too.
Meanwhile when confronted with the riders and the 6-month period this action had been plastered all over the internet the best the police Chief could come up with was that they were too occupied with the parades to deal with it. So with a ‘no leave’ policy on the PD, LEA from other parishes brought in and a contingent of State Police they didn’t have enough people to break up the pack and arrest a few of them in the process? We won’t even get into the ‘not catching it in the first place’ part.
I only saw it on one channel and that channel didn’t even put it on their internet site. Wondering if the local news didn’t want to embarrass the city even more or if they had some pressure put on them? Or both.

BTW, Asian papers are reporting that the Chinese have been finding three rather icky strains of avian flu going thru their population of late. These are not your regular strains, they’re rather virulent, they’re causing the Chinese some worry and I’m wondering when/if they’ll start another mass chicken kill off.
I’m looking for the CDC and WHO to say something eventually as the birds that migrate thru China will be on the move soon, bringing joy and viruses to new and interesting areas. Seems the guestimate they all made about the strains to vaccinate for this season were around 90% wrong so let’s see what they predict for next season.

On the news this morning in the NW: yesterday a teen in Washington state was arrested. He was turned in by his grandma when she found a long gun in his guitar case and upon investigation also found notes in his journal identifying the high school he intended to shoot up in the near future.

He has been arrested while the police continue to investigate (according to the news) and decide whether he will be charged.

His attorney, at his arraignment, said he was just venting. His uncle, interviewed for the news, says he’s a good kid who has made a mistake. The uncle did acknowledge that this was a heinous mistake (but a mistake nevertheless). Uncle also pointed out that the boy had been running with a bad group and had had a hard life. Therefore………….

I’m glad grandma turned him in. That must have been hard, but I have no doubt she saved many lives.

The uncle can go pound sand. I’m tired of this “they had a hard life” crap. Stop making excuses. Not everyone who has a hard life decides to shoot people, but that’s still the go-to excuse when someone does go or plans to shoot a bunch of people.

Buff was accepted into service in 1955 and is expected to fly past 2040, it’s gonna outlast me. I think the interesting part is that you could have the great-great grandchildren of the first crewmembers flying it in 2040 when it’s retired.
It came into service with the Russian M-4 Bison and TU-16 Badger bombers, both of which thev Russians retired in the early 90s. As a side I got to fly back to the US on a Buff coming back for service at Tinker in Oklahoma City and on the ‘civilian’ version of the Badger, the Aeroflot TU-104, when I went to Russia in ’64. In all the Buff was a nicer ride.
Tinker was the hub for Buff service, they hsd (and probably still have) a hanger they called ‘The Mile Long Hanger’. It was a biggun, they put that nosewheel in a track, winch the Buff inside and completely strip and rebuild it as it was hauled thru the hanger’s length. We’d get to go inside on Armed Forces Day and walk around, we’d have a few thousand people in it and you still felt alone. I still have a couple of aluminum ‘tokens’ they made for us. They took a huge room-sized press, put a die and a sheet of aluminum in and whoomp-stomped out a sheet of tokens in the shape of the Mercury capsule (yeah, it was that long ago).

Ya know, when you think about it the Buff can go on operationally flying well past 2040. When the Russian Badger/Bear aircraft became obsolete in their primary role the Russians turned it into a maritime reconnaissance/interdiction aircraft. Flying out of northern bases it was armed with anti-ship missiles that could be used against NATO ships operating in the Atlantic. It didn’t have to be fast or stealthy, just have the electronics to detect the ships and launch long range anti-ship missiles.
The Chinese are developing/deploying very long range A-400 style anti-aircraft missiles that can attack US rear echelon aircraft such as our aerial refueling and AWACS systems from far beyond the front lines. They are carrying one on a j-16 fighter but if/when the US decides to build a like family of missiles you could stack a bunch on the venerable Buff. It can carry 70-thousand pounds of bombs, it could carry quite a few missiles. Again, it doesn’t have to be a spiffy, top notch plane, just a platform capable of flying the missiles to a deployment point.

Almost forgot – nothing spells excitement quite like seeing an Arc Light mission, a flight of B-52s so far up all you saw was contrails, each dropping about 60-thousand pounds of bombs, that was each dropping about 120, 500-pound bombs. The earth shook and, if you were close enough in a shelter, so did you. THAT was shock and awe.
Decades after Vietnam in Egypt during an exercise a B-52 did an Arc Light-lite run for the Egyptians. You couldn’t see him but you saw the bombs out there plowing up sand. Berst the Egyptians could do was send up an old Russian bomber they had and drop a single 1000-pounder. Everyone ‘ooohed’ and ‘ahhhhed’ and acted politely complimented their aerial prowess.
Earlier the previous day the Egyptians were supposed to pick up a Buff coming in and track it with their crappy old Russian SAM radar system – their missile was broken. They were out there trying to acquire the Buff, scanning and searching – finally Buff came roaring in at less than treetop (not hard to do in the desert), straight down their runway, screaming and pouring black exhaust – that was the first they ‘saw’ of it. That was Miller Time.

    Good Morning Everyone! 🙂
I have been posting romantic paintings in honor of Saint Valentine, so now I would like to post a few of a more masculine/outdoorsy variety. Here is”Elk” by Bierstadt. It is a simple painting, but for some reason, I really liked it!

Albert Bierstadt (January 7, 1830 – February 18, 1902) was a German-American painter best known for his large landscapes of the American West. In obtaining the subject matter for these works, Bierstadt joined several journeys of the Westward Expansion. Though not the first artist to record these sites, Bierstadt was the foremost painter of these scenes for the remainder of the 19th century. Bierstadt was part of the Hudson River School, not an institution but rather an informal group of like-minded painters. The Hudson River School style involved carefully detailed paintings with romantic, almost glowing lighting, sometimes called luminism. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Bierstadt

Luminism is an American landscape painting style of the 1850s – 1870s, characterized by effects of light in landscapes, through using aerial perspective, and concealing visible brushstrokes. Luminist landscapes emphasize tranquility, and often depict calm, reflective water and a soft, hazy sky. In general, Hudson River School artists believed that nature in the form of the American landscape was an ineffable manifestation of God, though the artists varied in the depth of their religious conviction. The paintings also depict the American landscape as a pastoral setting, where human beings and nature coexist peacefully. Hudson River School landscapes are characterized by their realistic, detailed, and sometimes idealized portrayal of nature, often juxtaposing peaceful agriculture and the remaining wilderness. The epic size of the landscapes in these paintings, unexampled in earlier American painting, reminded Americans of the vast, untamed, but magnificent wilderness areas in their country. One of the largest collections of paintings by artists of the Hudson River School is at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luminism_(American_art_style)

Thank you for all your well-wishes. After emergency shots, and anti-histamines, the swelling is decreasing. Now I just have to be careful of infection because of the swelling. I will just have to keep up with these meds until it freezes again. My worry is what will happen this spring when the snow melts before we can get the stumps ground up and a lawn in because we did not have time before the autumn freeze after cutting the trees. Please keep me in your prayers. This spring may be a real challenge for me medically. Thank you and God Bless you ❤

I’m reading and watching all the bellyaching by so many armchair quarterbacks about how the law enforcement community should have acted before the Nikolas Cruz went on his killing spree.

I agree that given what we know about Cruz there should have been a more aggressive investigation into the intention of Cruz based on his Instagram account alone.

The FBI did interview one man who reported Cruz before the horrifying events of yesterday, agents even came out and interviews the young man who reported Cruz and apparently decided “Meh” about the Instagram account of Cruz.

“I’m going to be a professional school shooter”__Nikolas Cruz

    Meh

And now the response is “Meh” it may be a different Nikolas Cruz with a similar predilection for school shootings. Ya’ never know.

Now, I bet any one of us could easily find 50 Twitter accounts that talk about assassinating President Trump. They have all been reported by multiple people to the FBI Secret Service and to Twitter. Who knows what the Secret Service and FBI does about them. I am guessing nothing.

Twitter replies that threatening to assassinate our President does not go against Twitter community standards.

So my question is how many of the people who are saying that the law enforcement community should have acted sooner in the Cruz case also believe that the law enforcement community should act with the full force of the State and act aggressively toward those who continually threaten the life of President Trump?

It’s a mad world. Stay locked and loaded.

      https://tinyurl.com/y8ygmztp

At this point, like so many others in my 46 year life, I ask myself, again:

Why does the FBI exist any more? What purpose do they serve, and what good are they?

“If you see something, say something.” Say something to whom? The agency with “INVESTIGATION” at the end of their name?

And why are all government agencies’ names the opposite of what these agencies do?

Great minds Wooly! It’s all BS, just heard one of powers that be on the tube say :If you see something say something.” To what end.

It will be interesting to see if Cruz has ever been treated for mental health issues. Was he on any antipsychotic drugs? His mom died 3 months ago (if I am seeing correct reporting) how did she die?

It seems like this guy was all over the place ideologically. The one common thread is violence. That to me lends itself to him being dangerously mentally ill. A young man led by his passion of the moment.

Given our broken mental health system, my guess is he could have been put in a 36 hour watch and evaluation but would have walked after the 36 hours.

Some idiot on Fox just said “If you are mentally ill you can’t premeditate a murder.” What a moron, yeah and maybe a blackhole sucked a plane into its vortex.

I know, right? The NSA snoops through everything on the Tree House, and everything here at Stella’s Place, and all of our Twitter feeds. How did they miss this idiot?

What I’m more upset about is the weeping and gnashing of teeth about how “we need more gun control”: – no we freaking don’t! We tried “gun free zones” and people keep dying in them. I told my family once that if I got shot on my gun-free zone college campus that I wanted them to sue the college. It wasn’t even about the fact that I wanted to carry a gun, it was about the fact that I had been preemptively disarmed and everyone knew it. We need more armed people everywhere. We need armed teachers in school buildings.

And the media needs to be taken out and horsewhipped. I hear all the time these Lefties threatening violence and the media is always there to breathlessly report on theses statements. Hmm…I wonder what the breathless coverage of someone threatening to shoot Trump supporters would say to some nut who was considering shooting people to make a point?

Funnily enough, NRA events don’t suffer a lot gun violence. It’s like mass shooters avoid places where they know an armed populace would shoot back or something.

That’s because the blood spills over onto the media. I wonder how much Nikolas’ last name played into the school wishing his violent threats away and not getting the police involved with him and charging him for making murderous threats. What if his last name had been McDonald or Peterson, would his violent threats simply been swept under the rug?

I’ve been wondering that myself. Didn’t O have some policy that punished schools for turning minorities in the police if they v did something wrong?

Probably. that sounds like something that Obama would push as an agenda.

Cruz was adopted as an infant (or so it seems) by Lynda and Roger Cruz. The dad died when he was very young Lynda passed way last year from pneumonia.

Barbara Kumbatovich, a family friend who lives on Long Island, told the Sun Sentinel she didn’t think there was a major issue with Cruz and was shocked to find out he was the suspected gunman.

“I know she had been having some issues with them, especially the older one. He was being a problem. I know he did have some issues and he may have been taking medication. (He) did have some kind of emotional or difficulties,” Kumbatovich told the newspaper. “(Lynda) kept a really close handle on both boys. They were not major issues, as far as I know, just things teenagers do like not coming home on time, maybe being disrespectful.”

May have been taking medication 😏

This was a known massacre waiting to happen. The willfully blind staff’s defense is we said he wasn’t allowed in school with a backpack.

Yes. Remember the Miami School Police Department, and how they covered up crime by certain students – like Trayvon Martin? SD wrote a lot about it.

I wonder how many of these starving souls voted for the socialist Hugo Chavez…the masses are easily swayed, never realizing this is the inevitable consequence of communism in third world countries.

It’s happening in communist South Africa, too, except the whites being thrown off their land, and out of their jobs have nowhere to go. Look for mass slaughter very soon in the white shanty towns.

When I first saw this article, I checked on the two that supposedly happened in my state, because I had not heard of them. One was a suicide in a school parking lot. The other was two shots fired in a school parking lot at 8 pm on a Friday night after a basketball game. Nobody was hurt.

Oh my goodness, and someone told me tonight there have been eighteen shootings so far. And it’s from Every Town for Gun Safety. Good grief.

How come these people don’t even blink when they quote Every Town but won’t believe a word the NRA says? (Yeah, yeah, I know. It’s just irritating, that’s all.)

    About that inconvenient tip received by the FBI;

Florida school shooting: 19-year-old accused of killing 17 is a ‘broken child,’ lawyer says

    http://abcnews.go.com/US/students-parents-desperate-answers-police-investigate-florida-school/story?id=53103817

The FBI said it received a threat last year of a potential shooter based on YouTube comments, including, “I’m going to be a professional school shooter,” but couldn’t track down the source.

    So;

Option A) Martin Shkreli can afford spyware that allows him to know the name, address and phone number of any account he wants to have that information about yet the FBI somehow can’t afford or figure out how to do it?

Option B) The FBI is lying and coverage its butt.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
