Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no; it is an ever-fixed mark,
That looks on tempests, and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle’s compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.
William Shakespeare
National Tortellini Day and Fat Tuesday.

And Mardi Gras was well underway when I arose at 7. Local TV stations broadcast till at least 2 showing various parts of town, as there are several types of celebrations, with the focus on parades (Zulu, Rex, & Trucks in the Uptown & downtown areas, Argus & Trucks in Metairie, various Krewes across the lake), who is marching with the parades (and singularly, such as the Baby Dolls (very traditional), Pete Fountain’s Half-Fast Marching Club (say it quickly) which travels a now set route from bar to bar with their own band, what people are eating (they set up tents, furniture & whole kitchens to cook everything from crawfish to roasted pigs, with all the sides), what they are wearing (political & reflective of news items, costumed groups with a theme at great), what’s being thrown (plastic theme cups, beads (plastic necklaces in an unbelievable variety), stuffed items, Moon Pies, coconuts with glitter designs, various things you never thought of… The TV personalities dress up to a theme (last year one foursome dressed as the rock band Kiss & we discovered that weatherman was a bodybuilder!): so far we have Power Rangers, fast food mascots, & Mario Brothers characters. Metairie, Northshore & St. Charles Ave are family type areas, French Quarter is likely risqué. Luckily, the temperature & weather are pretty good, with a chance of rain later.
Czar & I are planning to plant some stuff today, maybe get the car out of the front yard mud… Not going to the Mardi Gras.

Woo Hoo! Wildly successful Mardi Gras – there were only two shootings along the main parade route.
One was right by Ann Rice’s old party house on St Charles where I did Mardi Gras security for years. Happened right by where a lot of NOPD were stationed – the ‘young men’, as the news euphemistically referred to them, escaped capture by running away.

Glorifying and Imitating God — Genesis 1:31
How many times have you praised God at the sight of a beautiful flower or a herd of wild animals living peacefully in nature? We see the Creator’s wisdom when a beautiful valley stretches out before us and we breathe the fresh air of the countryside. The ocean’s waves, both the gentle ones and the powerful ones, speak to us of God’s intelligence. We hear the loud cry of an animal in the night, the birdsong that wakes us in the morning, the flutter of wings flying quietly over our heads.
All these remind us that we are not alone in this universe that God created just for us. Beautiful mountains, plains, and valleys invite us to meditate and to worship the Creator. Thinking about his own work, God “saw that it was very good!”
Because we were created in the image and the likeness of God, we can imitate the Creator in our creative words and actions. God entrusted us with the sacred task of caring for his creation. So let us respect our environment by preserving it in a state of cleanliness, beauty, and “goodness”—a place where we can experience his perfect harmony.

Such a beautiful room. It actually seems warm and cozy. So many other photos I’ve seen of the inside of castles, although elegantly decorated, appear austere, cold, and formal.

There is a place in Death Valley called Scotty’s Castle. I have been there several times. You think of castles being cold and damp. Since it is in Death Valley, that would be a good thing, but I don’t remember it that way at all. It is hard to tell in this video, but the large livingroom area is actually quite cozy. I could have moved right in and been comfortable.

As a person’s home is his/her castle (PC version) unless you’re in a state that doesn’t recognize a castle law…..there’a a place down around Four Corners where a guy built his house out of a huge sandstone boulder. It was about 40 years ago when a friend and I stopped by – the family was offering tours – and it was large, spacious and provided its own temperature control. Rooms were a bit non-right-angleish and the decor was sorta monotone but in all not a bad place to live.
If anyone’s interested I did resist the urge to tell them their house rocks.

It’s also tourists acting like the wouldn’t dare act in their hometowns. Days of walking down Bourbon Street through a stew of urine, vomit, spilled drinks and ‘what the ***** is THAT?”. It’s the memory of wrestling a pugnacious drunk in that same slime at 4 AM and coming home to the Czarina telling me to undress on the back porch and not dare come into the house with my uniform on.
It’s also lots of nice memories of rushing to see how many parades we could make in a day. Loading the attic with boxes and boxes of beads and 16-oz throw cups (we’re still using some from the early 90s), days of just having families out on St Charles grilling and BBQing offering you food and drinks, seeing things in the French Quarter you still can’t wrap your mind around and trying to find a BATHROOM!

Detroit had, and hopefully still has, so much beautiful art and architecture. Did they actually sell off some of the art? I read a while back they were thinking of doing so to raise money. I also have seen in some of the ‘rehab a house’ shows some beautiful houses that were once owned by the upper-middle and upper classes that had fallen into ruin. Is there a group that are trying to save these lovely examples of residential art and architecture?

Much of Detroit’s architecture is still intact, fortunately! It was once called the Paris of the Midwest, you know, because of the beautiful buildings and gilded age mansions.

Yes – thank goodness the architecture still exists. I really do hope and think it will happen that with President Trump, there will be a renaissance in many large cities that were once beautiful, but fell into decay under democratic leadership. I really believe that it is important for those who have not been exposed to such beauty to see it, and know it’s history. We were very poor growing up, and I loved seeing beautiful things, even though at times we did not even have money for food. I don’t know what makes some people hate & destroy in that situation, and some people take the pleasure from the beauty offered, even if it not theirs to own.

Detroit has been enjoying somewhat of a renaissance, at least in the downtown area. Most of it is due to private investment.

And, truthfully, the pictures don’t do it justice and they have refurbished it very nicely.

We have The Fox Theatre in Atlanta. It was all falling down, and in the 70’s, people all over the State of GA donated to save the Fox. It’s all Art Nouveau and beautiful. Sort of an “Arabian Nights” theme.

When they dim the lights, The ceiling is like the sky with all of the stars twinkling. The last time we went, it was to “Boortzapalooza”! Neil Boortz, Hannity, Evander Holyfield, Oliver North, Ludicris and a lot of local celebrities. I think it was for his broadcasting for 40 years in Atlanta. We had front row seats, and the place was packed! We sat right next to his side-kick, Royal, who passed away soon after. Sure was a fun night, and it raised a lot of money for charity.

They found out years after it was built, that one of the crystal stars was actually made from a Coca Cola bottle! It is a very impressive and different kind of theatre. Here is a side view.

Well, that’s good. Since I find stalls seem to have gotten smaller since I put on weight. 🙄

Haven’t we all! Long ago I gave away my tiny size clothes. I have no intention of trying to get back to a 19″ waist – I just want to get HEALTHY!

The interesting thing is that while I wore a size 12 most of my life, the measurements now correspond to a size 8. So, if I get back to my old size, I will have lost two dress sizes at the same time.

🙂 Yes, I had a friend who went to that fashion Institute in New York, and had a vintage clothing store. She said exactly that. The sizes are numbered smaller now compared to the sizes and measurements decades ago!

The last time I checked, fashion patterns for making your own clothes have not followed that trend. If you do buy a pattern, be sure to check the measurements given by the pattern company, rather than choosing by size.

Today’s painting is ‘The Courtship’ by Adrien Moreau.
Adrien Moreau 1843 – 1906 was a French genre and historical painter, sculptor and illustrator. Moreau began his artistic training as an apprentice glassmaker, but left for Paris to study at the École des Beaux-Arts. He first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1868, being described by fellow artist and critic, Joseph Uzanne, as “among the ranks of the greatest painters of contemporary genre”. During the course of events of the Franco-Prussian war which forced military attacks into the streets of Paris, Moreau’s studio was actually destroyed by an explosion. He did not exhibit again until 1873, when he showed Concert d’Amateurs dans un Atelier d’Artiste (Amateur Concert in an Artist’s Atelier) which really established him in the public eye, and his art became in great demand, particularly in America. His touch is described as microscopic in its details, and yet the accessories are always kept subservient to the theme of the story. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrien_Moreau
To see the amazing level of detail in the above painting that he is known for go to https://i.pinimg.com/736x/af/95/b3/af95b3cd0e9b0306db194e00dce38b5b.jpg
I know these paintings may not be to everyone’s taste, but I was trying to show a more romantic feeling for St. Valentine’s Day, as well as in all the paintings I post, the true artistic ability which is often lacking today due to the communist goal of wiping out beauty in art and architecture. As it turns out, these are quite a comparison to the Obama’s portraits posted above!

These are nice and I get an art lesson. That obama thing is junk. I saw pics of tom hanks with obama at the unveiling. I guess they’re best buddies.

Glad you enjoy them! 🙂
Hmmm… Tom Hanks makes his millions playing conservatives and heroes – maybe it’s time to stop going to his movies. I’m so happy Clint Eastwood had the actual heroes play their parts in his new movie about the French train attack and rescue.

The detail really is amazing. Thank you.

Isn’t his talent amazing! I can’t even dream of doing something like that! I wonder if it took him the entire 5 year gap to paint that one painting – it would not surprise me if it did. I think they painted these detailed paintings with a variety of subjects in it for the salon. The salon was the big entrance to getting wealthy people to buy from you. It was the major marketing tool, so everything had to be in your one best effort I guess.

Finland emerges as a happy, prosperous place.
Like I keep saying:
1) Can-do attitude
2) Diligence
3) Continuous Learning
4) Trustworthiness
based in love for one’s neighbor, which, coincidentally, is what the Lord commanded.
It’s all there in this article, if you look for it as you read through to the end:

I searched on Mardi-Gras gowns, because hey I’m a girl! I had never seen gowns and trains like this before! Amazing and beautiful. The amount of work is mind boggling. Gown/costume production must be a huge business down there!
This one was beautiful blue with an amazing headdress!

Each one is hand crafted, the more money you have to put into it the more elaborate it is. The Queens of Rex & Comus have detailed hand beading, pearls & crystals on fine lace. The headdresses are so heavy they are supported on the floats by rigging. There is a whole industry around feathers. And, of course, they are only worn for one Carnival.
Of note, a Mardi Gras Indian makes his own “suit” every year, sewing the elaborate beaded story plates & creating the feathers. They have tribes, such as The Yellow Pochahauntas, which meet to taunt each other & sing, both on Fat Tuesday & on Super Sunday (a few weeks from now).

Hi Stella, The other day I was trying to sort pictures I had already posted versus pictures to post in the future, but I mixed them up! (Should have known not to do it when not feeling well 😦 ) What is the best way for me to search on my comments to figure out what paintings I’ve already posted so I don’t re-post them?

I don’t think there is any good way to do that.

Should be interesting press conference today. Chris Wray at the FBI says that they sent four separate reports to the White House about Rob Porter, and that their investigation was closed in January.

You know what bothers me about this? I don’t really care. I don’t care when they found out and I don’t care if he did it. But, I thought I heard Wray say there was some info in Jan, 2018 and of course Kelly wasn’t there then, and Porter denied it. Then the investigation was closed in June or July and the later reopened because somebody requested it. And, then again, they closed it and reopened it when the pictures were made available.
My feeling about this is, “Boy, his ex-wives and girlfriend really hated him.” I think somebody came across this information and pressured them into coming out with it. That is what I think. And, no, I didn’t really care that he was in the administration.

Thank goodness I haven’t read the details…don’t want to filthy-up my mind. Whatever he did, he’s lost his job over it. It’s one of those “need to know” items and I don’t need to know. Let the police, courts, etc. handle whatever criminality was involved then let the whole lot of them ooze back into their previous nonentity status.

In Defense of Evangelicals Who Support Trump

I wonder how many of these people discussed in this article who are bemoaning Donald Trump thought that Obama was the be-all, end-all of moral righteousness. A man who literally voted to let babies who survived abortion be left out to die is probably less reprehensible to these “evangelical” cretins then President Trump is. And to be brutally honest, I heard the “Trump’s been married three times” thing shortly after the man was elected and nearly blew a gasket. The divorce rate among professed Christians is astronomical, but now it’s okay for us to get all huffy because Trump was married three times? Give me a break.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

Well, I took several souls to task over at CTH a few minutes ago in the “Just Plain Goofy” post. Honestly, dislike of a person’s politics, even considering a person to be influenced by the Father of lies, is generally acceptable. But degenerating into stupidity, libelous content and pornography is really too much! Sickening!
