  2. I am stunned at this man’s talent. I wonder where he got it?

Quite a few years back, I saw him and Bobby, his dad, beatboxing and singing in a video, when he was just a kid. This guy may surpass his dad in success and musical genius.

I hope he keeps his pops’ goodness, too. Bobby is a beautiful man.

The other day when we were discussing favorite films and recommending certain ones to watch, I got to thinking more about the ones which were on TV when I was a child. TV was still in black and white; and so the films may have been in color but we never knew it.

Tonight’s recommendation, a lovely, true-to-life film starring Geraldine Page, and for which she won the Best Actress Academy Award:

    The Trip to Bountiful (1985)

I remember the different feel for the clicks on the VHF knob (channels 2-13) and the UHF knob. And the multitude of adjustment knobs. I sure don’t miss the cathode ray tube.

My father fixed the TV (also the toaster, cars, plumbing & electrical, & on & on). The tube tester machine was at the hardware store, next to the replacement tubes. Now, when the tv (toaster, etc) breaks, just throw it out, cause no one can fix solid circuit stuff.

I just read one of my favorite authors died, Sue Grafton. She wrote 25 mysteries, the titles of which moved through the alphabet. I have a special preference for the female detectives she, Janet Evanovich, Sara Paretsky & Nevada Barr created, & was able to enjoy them each in its chronological order after I retired & had extra time to read. Grafton’s last, Y is for Yesterday, is still on my list. My sister, who is also an avid reader, sent me some new mystery series writers with women detectives, since I am mostly caught up on the above.

Morning Stella and all of you out there across this fine land,
Which although fine is absolutely Crazy Town as well. When clicking on my search engine, this title popped up on top: “Obama is returning to politics.”
Hmm. Scanned through article, which is misleading at best. One point being “O’s” approval rating is in the 60’s while PDJT is “lowest ever” for a president after 1 year.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/obama-is-returning-to-politics-in-2018/ar-AAuODn5?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntp

Then scrolled down a bit and this gem pops up: “Sweden to Publish Leaflets Warning Citizens of Potential War.”
But not from the invasion within, as I thought that the Swedes might actually fight back, but of course from a Russian invasion. Hmmm.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/sweden-to-publish-leaflets-warning-citizens-over-potential-war/ar-AAuOP2p?ocid=spartanntp

Yes, from Newsweek and CNN so what could I expect. i know this is going on all of the time, constant propaganda barrage, but these two struck me odd this morning.

Anyways, LOVE the “Peacock Room”. Stunning. And love all of the beauty you find and share each day. Thank you!

Have a GREAT day out there!

    From Jack Cashill:

Trump and the art of the insult

Joel Gilbert’s new film, “Trump: The Art of the Insult,” is on one level a hilarious trip down memory lane, especially for early Trump backers.

With minimal commentary, Gilbert shows Trump being Trump as he slices and dices his way through the Republican primaries and then somehow manages to outwit the deep state to beat Hillary Clinton in the general.

On another level, though, Gilbert’s movie invites the viewer to consider “insult” as an art form and assess Trump as a practitioner of the art.

As someone who grew up in Newark, New Jersey, went to high school in New York City and spent much too much of my adolescence on inner city playgrounds, I have a certain instinctive appreciation of the art.

Anyone’s else here have a trucker friend or family? One of my sons is an owner operater, and has been a driver for many years.

Last week I spent on the road with him, something I like to do every couple of years. We’ve had some great trips.

Anyhow, to the point. I can’t get this off of my mind, and it really bothers me. I found out several years ago when we made a trip up through New England that there aren’t nearly enough truck stops and rest areas. In the evenings truckers begin jockeying for a sleeping spot pretty early, I found if you don’t quit driving and grab one by suppertime, you probably won’t find one at all. In many states it is illegal for the trucks to park along the entrance and exit ramps like you see them do.

So, now e-logs are mandatory, and drivers must take a ten hour break every day, in addition to half hour breaks. They can set their own schedule, but of course most drive during the day for the purpose of scheduled appointments. So, everyone by law has to stop at a certain time, yet they can’t all have a place to park. Especially true in states like New York and California due to the extra red tape, but with the booming economy, it is more than ever a problem across the country.

I don’t have an answer, but it sure is a crunch for them, and they face serious repercussions if they repeatedly run over the driving time restrictions. They are allowed to drive only 11 hours I believe, then they have to be parked.

If I had million snow of dollars and wanted the headache, investing in truck stops would seem a good bet. Anyhow, I am sympathetic to this need no one seems to care about.

I imagine that people don’t know. We have rest areas on the interstates in Michigan with nice restroom facilities and vending machines. Truckers have their own area. I believe they can sleep there, if needed.

Our truck drivers park all over. They all seem to know the spots along the off ramps and undeveloped areas where ther is room, because I always see more than 1 truck. Southern CA in many inland cities have become distribution centers for everything coming from China and elsewhere in the ports. Seas of warehouses, with pollution, noise problems that are continuously litigated, but usually side for business. bc the cities give incentives they always side for business too.
Trucks park in residential areas also.
Legally by the book we have a lot of places in socal, but out in the desert etc, they have to plan that route.

    • lovely says:

Some of the superstores will allow truckers to park in their lots away from the regular traffic. If he finds places that will allow it he should keep it to himself otherwise too many truckers will use it and they’ll chase them off.

Also factories are sympathetic especially if they have trucks of their own and the company is closed or on a skeleton crew for the night so there is no real fear of any damages.

My husband drove a truck for about a year he found if he was the only one and he didn’t ask permission he wasn’t bothered at big factories or superstores. He received one ticket for being on a ramp for more than a certain amount of time, (I can’t remember what that time limit is). Ramp parking is allowed or was in many states but not for their mandated rest time.

Sorry Menagerie I know it is a hassle and one of those unforeseen hurdles not noticed by the general public or trucking companies.

I had no idea it was a problem. Alaska must have much looser regulations, at least in terms of where truckers can stop. Lots of pull-off places and scenic view spots with big trucks “resting”. Not so many official rest stops with bathrooms and vending machines. If there are 2 drivers in one truck, can they just switch off with each other and not have to stop for long periods?

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
