In yesterday’s general discussion I was waxing nostalgic about childhood happenings and hobbies and remembered that my favorite TV show from the moment it arrived was TODAY.
Although I can’t remember if I saw the very first episode some 66 years ago (see below), I do know that I watched TODAY in my grammar school, junior high and senior high years just after getting dressed and during breakfast. I absolutely would not start on my walk to school before 8:00 because I HAD TO watch the “This Day In History” 5-minute segment which came on at 7:55. LOL!

Then of course you remember J Fred Muggs. My brothers & I thought him great entertainment. But we changed over to CBS after Arthur Godfrey moved to Miami Beach, just a few miles from our home. My parents liked his association with Eastern Airlines’ Eddie Rickenbacker, as well, since they were in the airline business, too.

Morning lovely! Well, it’s bitterly cold here, but my county got lucky and none of the snow and sleet stuck. Areas around us weren’t so fortunate. Lots of schools closed.

I don’t know if the schools are closed here or not. We tend to follow Milwaukee. I’ve heard the plow/salt truck go by several times already. At least everything I need to do today is in town.
When I opened my door this morning my little dog turned her head and stared at me for a moment as if to say “Really, you except me to go out in that“.
I’m happy you were spared, stay toasty!

Good Morning Nyet! What a beautiful breakfast. ‘ Morning Stellars!
“I could set from memory a replica of the perfect Still Life she laid out on the table each morning: the carefully folded Advertiser, the two canary yellow hemispheres of grapefruit in their bowls, separated by a more richly yellowed cube of butter; the sky blue milk-jug and matching sugar bowl filled to the brim with their differently textured whitenesses; the pot of tea snug in its knitted navy blue cosy, the steam that rose invisibly from its spout suddenly rendered visible, swirling, where it entered the slanting morning light.” ~ Peter Goldsworthy, Maestro

Good morning beautiful people! We have a lovely 14° to start our day here and a low projected at 2° . Snow and ice to continue. My driveway and walk has been shoveled once already, but it will need to be done again.
Roads here are always bad once it snows, this mix makes them even worse, speed racer drivers end up in lawns and on medians but never seem to learn that the ice doesn’t care how big your vehicle is or how small your brain may be.

When I travel I always find an old church to visit, as I love the ceilings & statues. I can stand in the silence & absorb the years & people who have been there. I need to have a year for places like Venice, where there is a chapel with great things to see every block!

Agree! Sometimes the smaller churches and chapels are just as precious, and much more intimate because of their smaller scale and they are quieter (less crowded).

Mike, I mentioned this yesterday, but I have been watching a BBC series on YouTube, which is fascinating. It is called BBC Italy Unpacked, and the hosts are a British art historian, and an Italian (Lombardy) chef. They also did a series on Sicily. Very interesting and fun. Here’s the first (Bologna). The second and third series covers more little-known cities on the West and East coasts.

We have plenty of old churches in NOLA, some being closed as parishioners wane, and they are a joy to visit. As the city becomes more Democrat and older generations are replaced by the Rats preferred secular sheeple they become tourist attractions and then commercial property.
They used to be on tourist tours but now the tours mostly hit Mardi Gras-related spots, the Dome and watering holes. My favorite part of the tour was when they talk about how the bricks to build the church would come in on barges and lines of parishioners would unload the barges, each in a line coming up the streets from the wharf with a load of bricks in barrows, hods. buckets or some women carrying a few at a time in their aprons. I’m supposing future tours will be touting how forward pols successfully weaned correct thinking progs off of religion for moral direction and turned the churches and synagogues into coffee and T-shirt shops.

In The States, where churches & chapels are mostly locked up during the week (except for Mass), I usually have to call ahead, although sometimes tapping on the chancery door brings a secretary or caretaker. They have always been happy to show me around & quite proud of their places.

I remember when, hears ago, Ann Rice bought what I refer to as a block of property on St Charles that included a really nice house on one end and a small church on the other. She turned the house on the St Charles side into a really nice residence she could house guests in and rebuilt the church on the far end. I’m not sure if the church is still in use, she bought the property from the Archdiocese as the church’s footprint in the city contracted, but she did a great job. It used to be a great place on Mardi Gra, the St Charles side would have hundreds of guests for the parades and the free food and drinks flowed.
She sold her NOLA property when she moved back to California and I’m not sure who bought it and what the status of the small church is but the St Charles side is nowhere near what it was when she owned it.

A thank you note is important. Sometimes they may hire someone else, that person does not work out, so they go back to people previously interviewed rather than starting all over again. Also it makes a good impression on them, which if it’s a small circle of employers gets around. It also gets you in the habit of writing thank you’s. (I am amazed how almost NO ONE writes a thank you note of any kind anymore.) Keep trying. I started looking for permanent, full-time work during a major recession, and sent out almost 100 resumes for my first job. It started out awful, but turned into a very good job once I figured out the politics, and became pro-active. It will happen!

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
