What else? National Hat Day!

In all, I prefer to look at it as ‘National Strawberry Ice Cream Day’. In two of my careers I was forced to wear a hat daily while having far less of a connection to ice cream.

Believe it or not I’ve met someone who has never read The Cat in the Hat or watched the original cartoon. She is one of the most humorless shrews of a person I have ever known 😜. She said if she ever had children she would have 2 TV’s one so she could watch sports and one so the children could watch cartoons.
Thankfully her prospects of ever having children seem pretty dim as she is already in her late 40’s.

Evening Sand! It is snowing a wet icy snow, supposed to stay this way until tomorrow. Roads are slick but I am now toasty with my little dogs. Sad news is I can’t visit with my cousin tonight like I usually do on Mondays.

I’m sorry you can’t do your fun visit this evening. Glad you’re safe inside, though. I don’t drive on icy roads, because when it happens here there’s tons of accidents. Nobody here knows how to drive in winter weather. Stay warm and toasty!!! 😊

I remember reading and rereading so many books some definitely lost a bit of their charm after the 100th rendition.

Years ago some smart cookie entrepreneur introduced that ‘Cat in the Hat’ hat to Mardi Gras and now they’re everywhere. One of the reasons I think tourists come here is so they can wear that hat…wouldn’t be caught dead doing it at home.

Your “friend” seems lonely and that loneliness has made her bitter or perhaps her personality in the first place is on the negative. Who knows. However, is not having seen the cartoon nor read “The Cat in the Hat” unusual?
LikeLiked by 1 person
she’s not a friend just a person in my circle, I don’t think she is happy at all, which is sad, I think she grew up with a lot of criticism as she never says anything positive and nit picks everything. Sad. I think it is unusual for someone who grew up in America to never have read The Cat in The Hat. I mentioned it to a few people and they were all surprised that she didn’t know what it was.

Dr. Seuss’s books and the films made from them are certainly beloved by millions, and I thought the flap was ridiculous when Melania Trump gifted a collection of Dr. Seuss’ books to a certain library and the librarian got all leftie-hater about it.
But I have to admit, I’ve never read anything by Dr. Seuss or seen any of the films made from his works, though I certainly knew about them. I just looked up the publication year for “The Cat in the Hat” (1957) and noted that I would have been in 10th grade that year. So even if I’d heard of it at the time, it wouldn’t have interested me.
Perhaps if I’d had children I may have become more familiar with the books. But maybe not, based upon my own reading habits when I was a child and already being into more adult novels by the time I was in 3rd grade. I was a rather peculiar kid and started collecting and scrapbooking my “historical data” gleaned from newspapers and weekly magazines that year.
Each era had its own scrapbook…one for the American Revolution, one for the Civil War, one each for World War I, the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s–with a separate scrapbook for World War II, all the way up through the Kennedy Assassination, when I pretty much stopped scrapbooking and set up a library instead.
My parents loved to read and encouraged both my sister and me to catch the habit. For my 10th birthday they got me a set of encyclopedias. LOL!
So now, just in time for my “second childhood” I guess I’ll finally get around to reading Dr. Seuss.

“If I Ran the Zoo” & “if I Ran the Circus” were in my 3rd grade classroom. They were my intro to Seuss’ inspired silliness & wordplay. I can still recite the first lines of “Zoo”: If I ran the zoo, said young Gerald McGrew, I’d make a few changes, that’s just what I’d do. The lions & tigers & that kind of stuff they have in most zoos are not good enough for my zoo.

Hosted by an Italian chef and a British art historian, they visit well-known and mostly unknown (by us) cities and towns and the art therein, as well as the food! The hosts are congenial and the shows entertaining and informative:
The first is about Bologna – the city where my former employer is headquartered, and where most of the Italians I call friends were born. A couple of my bosses (and others I know, I’m sure) graduated from the University of Bologna.

The Facebook drug dealers: How cannabis and cocaine is openly being peddled to children on social media
They shut down conservative pages, but drug dealers are just fine, apparently.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5269267/Drug-dealers-using-Facebook-target-children.html
Drug dealers are openly using Facebook to target children, a Daily Mail investigation reveals.
Scores of criminals are freely touting for business on the site and other social media giants including Instagram and Twitter.
Many are offering cannabis for sale. One dealer, when contacted, offered to sell cocaine. A reporter posing as a teenage boy found dealers on Facebook willing to supply him with drugs even when they knew he was still at school.
On Instagram, the picture sharing site owned by Facebook, an account with more than 22,000 followers appeared to be dedicated to verifying genuine cannabis dealers in the UK.

FB friend’s comment about NPR news coverage:
My car has only AM-FM and Sunday afternoons the classical/jazz station has organ music, which I don’t care for, so if I’m in the car and there’s no baseball game, I may see what quiz or game show they have.
I stopped listening some years ago for many reasons, but here was one factor, as I’ve mentioned elsewhere today:
During their hourly newscast their Middle Eastern correspondent had a brief story and while I am paraphrasing, I am doing so fairly and reasonably. “There has been another outbreak in the cycle of violence that rends this strife-torn land. Two young women, one Arab, one Jewish, were killed today in an explosion in the Hebrew University cafeteria.” End of story, on to the next report.
What she didn’t mention was a minor detail…the reason the two young women died was that the Arab woman committed suicide in order to murder the Jew.
This was even better than the CNN crawl I saw once under their program: “Palestinian shot and killed while attempting to board bus in Israel.” Damn, you’d think, guy just wants a ride and these Jews drop him.
You had to go to the website and dig to find out the guy was trying to get on the bus…in order to kill as many people as he could and fortunately someone had a gun and popped him.
Then again, the left has always been a bit casual about Jewish lives.
LikeLiked by 4 people
It seems to me that some on the right are casual about Jewish lives too. I’m not sure about the population in general, but one of the things that infuriates me about the traditional Catholics is that a significant number of them are very comfortable attacking Jews and Israel.
They are really good at disguising it as “reality” or “you may not know this truth about business, the press…” or whatever, you name it. They are always just sharing a tidbit you didn’t know.
I haven’t been able to figure out where this comes from, and why so many of them follow these beliefs. It’s frustrating, because I cannot for the life of me figure out where they get this from, and I’ve tried. I would sure like to find the source or motivation for it, to try and understand better where this comes from.
I actually have had one more or less say to me that my attitude about Israel and Jews is a holdover from rhetoric I learned as a child in Evangelical churches, said in superior and pitying kind of “you’ll grow up someday and open your eyes” kind of way.

St. John Vianney has a lovely solution for folks like this, he would very gently take the speakers hand and say “We must then at once pray a rosary for this person (or people)” and he would then begin a 15 decade rosary and of curse the person being a good Catholic felt compelled to join him. An added perk is that he would begin walking and the poor person would end up miles outside of town by the time they were done praying.

Last week during my ongoing WWII research, I had gone out to the Interwebz to try and find out what happened to the Germans who opposed. Did they just get executed, were they sent to concentration camps, I mean what happened to them?
None of the resulting websites on Google were real sure about the answer to my question, but nevermind because Germany was engaging in the Holocaust and that’s what matters!!!!!!! I am now convinced that if an alien landed on Earth and set about studying the history of Earth, it would quickly come to the conclusion that only reason WWII happened was because Germany had to be stopped from completing the Holocaust and killing off all the Jews.
But as I was trying to find something that would actually answer my question, it occurred to me that lots of groups in the Middle East have made it abundantly clear that they hate Israel, will stop at nothing until they’ve gotten rid of the country, and this…just doesn’t seem to click for people. We have this weeping and gnashing of teeth over the Holocaust, and I’m not trying to downplay or deny that it was a bad thing, but the “never again” stuff wears thin when these same weepy-eyed folks just can’t seem to grasp the fact that lots of Muslims want to have a second Holocaust (and are vigorously denying that the first one ever happened.)

I hate seeing things like this. Nothing will ever be as good. Apparently a mining company bought this whole German town. Apparently they have been promised a modern church, but Im not sure what that means.

Modern things may be nice, but our Western ancestors knew how to build things so that they would be beautiful and that they would last.
This is very sad.

San Francisco Requires Poop Maps To Help Pedestrians Avoid Human Waste
https://www.dailywire.com/news/12001/san-francisco-requires-poop-maps-help-pedestrians-hank-berrien
For those who have maintained that San Francisco is full of . . . whatever, there is now living proof. How much poop is there on the streets of the City by the Bay?
Would you believe there is an online map to track human feces on the city’s streets? There is.
According to Fox News, one area of the city reported a 140% rise in feces. As Jay Caruso of RedState noted, “Public urination is so widespread it has damaged subway elevators and escalators, building walls and power poles.”
When did the gleaming jewel that was San Francisco become a repository for poop? Mayor Willie Brown terminated ordinances; city district Attorney Terence Hallinan would not prosecute “victimless” crimes involving drugs and prostitution…

Its so bad the old street lamps have been falling over due to the damage at the bases from pee and poo. I know the hepatitis from san diego started spreading out of state now. Not sure if its now going to spread through san fran. I heard it got to santa cruz, but not much else. I went 1 time as a kid to the wharf. Its so expensive generally and via taxes, so dirty, so dangerous, and so liberal, Ill never go again.

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2018/01/a_nigerian_immigrant_addresses_president_trumps_alleged_comment_on_shole_countries.html
Video done by a Nigerian in the US who is going back to Nigeria. His point (made with the repeated use of the word itself) is that Nigeria is exactly what a shole country would be and for people to stop acting like Donald Trump’s language is the problem, since it is the truth.
This man doesn’t use notes. He doesn’t spend time defending Trump from accusations of racism–apparently even allow for the possibility that Trump might be that…..(which I don’t think he is – my point is – that is not this man’s concern). He is going after Africans who are denying reality out of some group loyalty.
He just says what is so.

Made by my older grandson for breakfast this morning:
One is filled with Nutella, and the other is filled with PB&J.
He got the pan as a Christmas gift.

Reminds me of the aebleskivers. Might those recipes work for him? They sure are good, especially that one from Williams Sonoma that you found for me. It is my all time favorite one.
I love things like that. Fun to make treats, the family gets excited about their favorite filling, everyone gets to have their pick. I just love having them all gathered in the kitchen laughing and excited about the next batch.
I don’t know what you call that thing, but I hope your grandson has as much fun with it as I do my pan. And the fish are seriously neat!

The recipes probably would work, although this is more like a waffle iron (it has a top).

This guy really in very arrogant and seems to think he is a direct connection to the pulse of the U.S. Does he have a chance at becoming a senator?
Chelsea Manning confirmed Sunday that she is a candidate for U.S. Senate in the 2018 Maryland
Democratic primary.
Manning is running as a Democrat and will challenge two-term Sen. Ben Cardin in the primary.
Manning is yet to file for the primary with the state elections board, which she must do in person by Feb. 27, according to the board’s website.
Senator Cardin is also yet to file. But campaign finance reports show that his campaign had nearly $2 million cash on hand in late September.

How can someone convicted of treasonous acts be a Senator? Don’t they have to have security clearances? Doesn’t make sense to me.

One of the biggest diamonds in history has been discovered in the mountainous kingdom of Lesotho in southern Africa.
Gem Diamonds Ltd. found the 910-carat stone, about the size of two golf balls, at its Letseng mine in the country. It’s a D color Type IIa diamond, which means it has very few or no nitrogen atoms and is one of the most expensive stones. The diamond is the fifth-biggest ever found.
The Letseng mine is famous for the size and quality of the diamonds it produces and has the highest average selling price in the world. Gem sold a 357-carat stone for $19.3 million in 2015 and in 2006 found the 603-carat Lesotho Promise.

stella, can you shed any light on what’s going on next door in regards to that letter to the media that sundance posted? If you can’t talk about it, that’s fine, but I admit I’m curious (and I’m not over there a lot anymore). Was sundance getting lots of media inquires into his work on that whole Russia dossier fiasco?

I currently have no insider info, but I’ll take a look.

Okay, I read the letter. Sundance has gotten requests for interviews, radio interviews etc, over the years fairly regularly, and he never engages. His point, as it has always been, is that he isn’t the story, and the story is right there for them to use, if they care to do so.
The only exception to that rule that I remember is that he (and several others of us) were interviewed by Jack Cashill over the telephone in Jack’s preparation for his book, “If I Had A Son”, which covered the George Zimmerman trial, and crowd sourcing by The Last Refuge which became part of the story.
We also emailed with Bill Whittle in prep for his video about the same subject.
Of course, those weren’t interviews in the usual sense. All we did was provide background info.

I dont think traditional interviews by anyone would go well. Media are users and looking for their own celebrity and enrichment, certainly not the story.

That’s it, and media personalities expect him (and others like him) to be flattered by the attention and, therefore, eager to bite at the opportunity. Sundance doesn’t want the sunlight; in fact, he does everything to avoid it.

I see it as he would never get ANYTHING done. If the journalist is a celebrity and IS the story theres no room for research and writing. Ergo our current state of journalistic drought!😊

I think the fact that he is anonymous encourages others to send tips, and feel safe from exposure.

Ok, thank you! I was just wondering if he was getting badgered about giving interviews or something like that.

Good! I’ll send this to friends who still live there. They’ve met Bill and just about every conservative in the film industry. I’d say the movement needs to search out all conservative ethnic minorities that supported President Trump. California can never be taken back from the socialists without their help and influence in their communities.

I kinda like that it’s on St. Patrick’s day. He was a former slave who legendarily drove all the snakes out. 🙂
And Liberty! Leave it to the Irish to throw a drunken feast (corned beef!!) smack dab in the middle of Lent. 🙂 I suppose you could call it the Feast of St. Patrick’s Intermission. 🙂

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
