      The Empire is responsible for my being here – my great grandmother decided that being a serf in Galicia under the Empire wasn’t all that great. She loaded up the brothers – my GGF decided to stay – and never looked back.

          Left her husband, loaded up the brothers who were her sons, hubby wouldn’t leave – apparently he had a high tolerance for serfdom. He remarried and started a new family and one member of our extended family’s gone back and met them.
          My paternal GGM came here alone, never remarried and worked her ass off in the mills to raise three sons. She chose freedom for herself and, more importantly, her sons while her husband decided that the lily pad he was sitting on may be lumpy but was comfortable enough.

            I have several women in my ancestry with that kind of spine. Any man who doesn’t hang on to that kind of woman, well, he’s stupid enough to get left behind. One hell of a story czar, thanks for sharing.

              She even went back and tried to get other family members to come over. Needless to say those who stayed behind continued to live under the Empire, then the Nazis and finally the Communists…didn’t do anywhere as well as those here.

            Sometimes in my life when I hit a rough spot I remember the stories about my great grand mother and all she did as a widow with a house full of kids on a farm out on the isolated plains of Kansas. I buck up plenty when I think how much harder she had it, and look at myself feeling self pity for some problem she probably wouldn’t have noticed.

      The Russians have nine nuke-powered ice breakers, they consider ice breakers to be not only a civilian but a very important military item. They are presently militarizing their polar regions and moving into what many consider international areas and their ice breakers are vital items in keeping their forces supplied.

    I posted this yesterday next door but still can’t get it out of my mind so I thought I’d post it here too.
    I was looking for something on Wiki and bumped into this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_organizations_designated_by_the_Southern_Poverty_Law_Center_as_hate_groups
    I was struck by the declining number of white hate groups by the end of the Obama administration – some categories increased during his administration but by the end their numbers significantly dropped.
    Now look at the numbers for black separatist/hate groups – over the same period of time the numbers increased significantly. And these are SPLC numbers, a group the POtuS and his sinister-leaning pals consider a friendly apologist.
    So perhaps the POtuS has left a legacy in the underbrush, a kinder, gentler and more accepting white population facing an invigorated and repopulated black hate base. Or am I reading the Left’s numbers wrong?

      Scroll down the page a little more, Czar and look and take a look-see at all the “Haters” listed as anti-Moslem and the year they were inducted.

      Then look at the Radical Catholic Traditions group.

      Aaaannd then there’s this one listed in the Anti-Immigrant hater group:
      US Border Guard/US Border Guard & Border Rangers (2014, 2015, 2016)

      I think the year listing is more important than the category listing. That said, the whole thing stinks like rotten fish.

        Yeah, but the SPLC’s primary mission has always been proving that whites in general and Southerners in particular are all racist thugs. Dees is a Southern sondercommando whose mission is to paint every resident of the old Confederacy as beyond redemption, it must have been painful to print the black/white hate group lists.

      Yeah, FBI took today to return a gun stolen from our Confederate Museum some 35 years ago. It’s the only known rifle that provenance tracing it back to the Battle of New Orleans. City did destroy, after they’d lasted nearly 200 years, some revetments on my side of the river that hosted cannon protecting the Westbank and the city from any ships that might have tried to come up the river. We lived directly across the river from the battlefield.

    Well, I went to the new job today. I was told by the temp agency…actually pretty much nothing the temp agency told me about this job was correct. Not a darned thing.

    It wasn’t bad work but it was monotonous…so monotonous. And they wanted time commitments that I didn’t want to give, especially because they didn’t want me to leave halfway through the assignment, and I didn’t want to put my life and search for a steady job on hold until that was over. So I went back and told the temp agency that I didn’t think this was a job fit for me, so I don’t waste any more of the company’s time.

    I feel stupid now, for leaving it. But when I was there today I couldn’t stand it.

        It was stifling, which is fine, I guess. I mean, it wasn’t bad work. But I was desperate for it to be over by the end of the day, though, just desperate. And I really didn’t want to make any promises I couldn’t keep, especially because this job more then the last one was really expected to dead-end. I can’t commit to staying in those circumstances. If something better comes along, I want to be free to take it and if I had left in the middle of their busy cycle, it sounded like I would have really left them in the lurch.

        Thank you for the prayers. I am still awaiting word from the other radio station in Michigan that I applied too.

          In 1982 during my search for the professional job that was not out there at the time, I worked for temp agencies for six months in a successsion of short placements, such as two days sorting & filing all the invoices an HVAC company generated for one year, or answering the phone while a secretary was out with the flu for a week. My favorite was pointing to & turning on & off a machine for two days at a convention for chemistry scientists. And for one very cold January week I recruited people off Canal street into a bus to take a survey about smoking; wind off the Mississippi River was relentless & 35*.

      Why walk around in shoes that don’t fit? I presume that you’re not in a ’12 step program’ and can write your own name and recognize it in English (I have some experience with temp agencies) so they should feel lucky to have you there.
      There’s a lot of businesses looking for temps as they don’t want to hire a full or part time folks so they take those jobs the established folks don’t want and hire someone from outside. It could be that the job’s too technical to be done internally and they don’t want to get hit with ‘consultant’ or ‘contractor’ costs so they scour temp agencies. We did all of the above. If you’re not desperate don’t waste irreplaceable lifetime being miserable.
