Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

I’m trying to take pictures of the ice on the trees. Now that it is super sunny out, it is like make-believe sparkly out there. The problem is the sun is so bright the rest of the photo is dark. I still just have the drugstore vivitar camera. I tried putting my sunglasses over the lens, then taking the picture, but it still did not work. Any ideas? The sun will heat up, and the ice will melt making it all go away in another hour or two. I’m wondering, even if I had an expensive camera, would this be a problem? Thanks 🙂

Bishop Barron’s commentary on martyrdom today.

    FEAST OF SAINT STEPHEN

    MATTHEW 10:17-22
Friends, today we celebrate the martyrdom of St. Stephen. The Gospel tells us to expect persecution. Martyrs like Stephen are witnesses who have given their lives for the faith, participating in the bloody death of Jesus himself. They are part of the great chorus that gives praise to Christ in heaven. The Lamb has become their shepherd, leading them to springs of life-giving water.

“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” This is an eschatological hope, one held out for us in God’s definitive future. But a terrible price was paid, and a terrible war was waged. Their robes are washed clean, but in the blood of the Lamb. Please notice the presence of martyrdom up and down the ages, to the present day. The twentieth was the Christian century with the most martyrs ever, in fact more than all the other centuries combined. The most persecuted religion on planet earth today is Christianity. St. Stephen, pray for us!

Hey Col, looks like your 4-shop may have made an error on the ‘unit of issue’ and ‘quantity’ blocks on the 1348-1 when you asked for Christmas snow?

DH says to tell everyone to have a happy “Boxing Day”! My Christmas was warm, happy, well loved and well fed! I couldn’t ask for more, but I do wish this for others as well.
The only disappointment has been a toy the dog got that is driving us crazy! We thought she would have it killed within 1 hour, but it’s still going strong. A wee toy dolphin, that instead of squeaking when squeezed, sings a weird song. She loves it, and hugs it and calls it George, lol!

    Morning Stella, rest of y’all,
Gorgeous sunrise photo, DC at its best.
Slowly working back into the grind, have gotten used to this not working business. Oldest and her husband just left headed to England for a few weeks. Jealous? Oh yeah!

    Have a great day y’all!

The photo at the top is really fine, Stella. Cold. Colorful. Memorial.

Sometimes it strikes me as a grievous conflict that our viewing of military memorials, in person or otherwise, is nearly always in physically comfortable and secure situations, so very unlike the conditions in which most of them died. It is appropriate and reflects truth that, at the memorials themselves, it is usually (and ought to be) stone silent. There really is nothing to say in the presence of even their names.

So many of them died not knowing the outcome of the battle or war in which they were dying. Laying down their lives in the face of unknown outcome, having decided that the laying down of that life was a valid decision regardless of the outcome or, in some cases, trapped in a mess based on deception that they no longer had any choice about.

Those who disregard or devalue the lives of our dead, directly or indirectly, should have their faces slapped.

Fitful sleep overnight and I woke up with a startlingly clear dream set at our home in Minnesota on a summer day. Mr. President had landed on our country gravel road in a C-130 and another very large plane carrying support people, all military. The plane pulled into our drive. (I know. Just stick with it. It was a dream.) He was just spending time visiting and loving on everyone who showed. We were madly taking photos, since they were only there for a few minutes and hadn’t announced their arrival in advance.

The first warning I had of their presence was when the huge wing floated into place in front of and over our garage, completely shadowing the front yard. It was rather wonderful. First time I’ve dreamt about any President. I woke up before they left — guess I couldn’t stand to say goodbye.

Yeah, I hated the Wall when it was first built but I’ve come to accept it as it personalizes the losses by putting their names out there in the order of their deaths. Most memorials are anonymous, a ‘one size commemorates all’ expression but the Wall put all 58,200+ names right out there.
I was on the committee that built the Louisiana Vietnam memorial. It memorialized the 881 Louisiana deaths and the story of its build is something in itself but it’s still anonymous. I think that had the 881 names have been put on the plaques next to the memorial instead of a yearly synopsis of the war’s action and progress but that was decided by others.

  9. I was throwing snow at 5:30 this morning. We got about six inches overnight. Last night was a nice, pretty, calm snow globe. This morning was a blizzard, and you could hardly see the streetlights across the road. I’m glad for the Carhartt hat with the built-in face mask. I’ll refill the Toro and do it again late tonight, because it’s still coming down.

I love using that thing at 5:30 in the morning, or late at night. We haven’t had enough snow to justify it for three years now. Snow is back! Make Winter Great Again! We have snowmobilers in town again, parking at the local bars. It’s been years.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
