Good morning, lovely. We got maybe 2-1/2 inches of snow yesterday. Not snowing today and it’s not freezing at 29 degrees. But without sunshine there’s no chance of it melting. Snow tomorrow but at the moment (AT THE MOMENT!!) no snow predicted for Christmas. Having to wear snow boots to dinner is soooo unfashionable! LOL!
“Tis the season to have rock salt

I’d be willing to bet this young man is way father down his path of life development and preparation for success than a lot of college graduates.
Aside from a dozen advantages he gained, clear in that article, the self confidence from doing something like that has got to be so important for a boy his age.

Moral Crisis, Moral Possibilities

Very good article, but very hard to walk it out for most of us. As he stated, reading the Bible, knowing it, and living it are two very different things.
A thorough examination of conscience should be something every Christian does regularly, not just casually and occasionally. There are some really good tools out there that help us push farther, and dig deep to recognize things we might otherwise be unaware of.
Really good article and writer, thanks Lucille.

Thank Our Lord, literally, that He’s in the business of forgiving our foibles and sins. Following His commands, especially His asking us to forgive others, is a challenge to our humanness. (Hebrews 4:15 NIV “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet He did not sin.”) However, the more we practice confession and forgiveness, the easier it becomes.
“Give me the grace [O Lord] to do as You command, and command me to do what You will!… O holy God…when Your commands are obeyed, it is from You that we receive the power to obey them.” – St. Augustine in “Confessions”

So it’s been a month since I started my new job through the temp agency. Last night, after the day at work was done, I got a call from the temp agency that my assignment at this place was over, just like that. And they told me this on a Friday night, so I won’t get any answers until Monday.
I don’t even know what happened to cause this.

So sorry to hear this, Rhea. I’m sure it’s nothing personal.

I hope it isn’t.
To be honest, I’m feeling pretty devastated this morning.

It’s just one of those speed bumps in life. I know it’s difficult to look at it that way, but better things are coming for you, I’m sure.
I say this after looking back on my own working life since my first real job in 1966 (which ended on a sour note). Things WILL improve!

Rhea, I definitely know the feeling, having worked temp at a number of studios for a while when I was between permanent film jobs. Though I loved working temp because I could go in, clean the place up, get things organized, and then leave for another assignment if I wanted, it still provided an uncertainty to life.
My suggestion is that you ask the temp agency if they have any pointers on how you could improve based upon what was said to them about your work or anything else. Let the agency know you’re more than willing to improve where needed. Or if no reason was given, then simply assume they chose to go in another direction. Like Stella said, it’s probably not personal.
We’ll be praying that you find just the right match. Keep looking up!

Thank you, Lucille. I will ask about that.
And I appreciate everyone’s prayers.

I can pick up some hours at the radio station again, but i’m pretty disappointed. I thought things were going well, no one had said anything any mistakes I’d made, but…just like that. I was done.

Don’t let this injure your self-esteem. It could have been something as simple as the boss thought you were too pretty. Don’t laugh. I remember a case where, it was a dentist I believe, said that was the reason he let a female in his office go. 🙄

I don’t think you should assume this was something you did wrong. If you have had no feedback from your bosses, no coaching or tips or counseling, then you have no basis to feel concerned about your performance.
For a company to thrive, they need good employees. Good employees are developed, not just hired. It is a waste or talent and payroll if managers do not have the ability, nor take the time to teach, train, and developed their people.
If there was a problem you should have known about it. If you did not, the problem with performance was theirs, not yours.
I know that doesn’t make you feel better about losing your job, but it is truth.

I think you are absolutely right.
For several years, I worked as a substitute in some Montessori schools, preschool and kindergarten, and in two cases through elem. grades. In one of the schools, I had a very hard time and was always doing things wrong. It was very difficult. They gave me no instruction, a list of children’s names, schedules, or anything. Another school that went through the elem. grades gave me the schedule, names, everything I needed to know. They were very happy with me and I ended up working there almost full time because they called me for whatever teacher was absent or needed help. Obviously they were happy with my work.

Thank, Menagerie. it does help tonight. And I will try and remember it as I go forward dealing with the agency on Monday.

That’s rough Rhea. No warning is really lousy. Something better his down the lane. I know that doesn’t help at the moment but when you get the next job you will have another new perspective. Perhaps you can call the place of employment and ask them if they are hiring and get a job directly with them without over 25% of your salary going to a temp agency?
Prayers for employment that is long term and something you enjoy.
LikeLiked by 3 people
As someone who worked for a few temp agencies back in the day, they usually require you to sign a waiver that you cannot be hired by any company where you were placed as a temp for at least 6 months.
Good luck Rhea. Praying something better is waiting in the wings for you!

thank you, lovely and Tundra. I don’t know that I couldn’t get hired by a company the temp agency sends me too. This agency in particular seems to make it a point to mention that they can get people permanent jobs. But I don’t think that they’d be very happy if they found out that I was going around them to try and get employed.
I don’t look forward to being without a full time job.

You need to check on this with the temp company. I know people who have worked for temps and have been hired by the company they were sent to and it was all arranged through the temp company.
LikeLiked by 1 person
One thing I would do. If the temp company doesn’t give you a good answer for why you were let go, call the company you were working for and find out why.
LikeLiked by 2 people
Do you think they’ll give me an answer? Indiana is a right to work state.
Incidentally, my father worked for this company for several years a long time ago. They did the same thing to him that they did to me. But the company knew about our relationship when I started working there. I never hid it from anyone. They had actually expended a great deal of money to make arrangements for my father to do some work for them overseas and then…they let him go. Kind of like what they did to me, except they weren’t going to send me overseas and hadn’t spent money on that effort.

Do you think they’ll give me an answer?
You won’t know unless you ask. The worst thing that will happen is that they won’t tell you.
LikeLiked by 1 person
If you don’t feel comfortable calling, perhaps writing them a “thank you” letter of sorts indicating that you enjoyed your time with them and to keep you in mind should another opening arise. You might even say that if they have any pointers as to how you could better fulfill the assignments, you would greatly appreciate the information.
Always conclude on as positive a note as possible. Such a letter just might surprise them into calling you again. But if not, consider it their loss to have foregone a loyal employee.
LikeLiked by 3 people
When I worked temp, some of the agencies were also job placement agencies. If the place you were working temp decided they wanted to hire you, they could pay a fee to the temp/placement agency. If the company didn’t want to pay the fee, they had to keep paying for your temp services. One agency allowed the company to hire the temp for no fee after 6 months.

It’s hard to understand why these things happen. I worked at a wonderful preschool years ago that I really enjoyed. I had a little girl in my class who required a special walker to move around. I had to watch her pretty close to keep her from getting injured. The owner called me in and fired me saying that I was hyper focused. I’ll never forget that, but you just have to pick yourself up and dust yourself off and not allow it to hurt your self-esteem. I know it hurts and feels so personal, but please don’t allow it to defeat you. I’m glad you shared this with us. I’d give you a big hug if I could. 🙂

It’s hard to believe Swift wrote this in 1729. Actually, it’s hard to believe this was written in 1729.
It might actually be the first example of “trolling”. He caught a lot of flak for this one.
Or modern prophecy. Donno which. Outside of Ecclesiastes, it’s the most extreme sarcasm I’ve ever read, and it’s almost like he visited our era with a time machine.

Don’t forget that Swift wrote Gulliver’s Travels. He was a famous satirist. This was also during the Georgian era, a time when England became more free to criticize the King, parliament etc. Satirical lithographs appeared in print shop windows. The British Museum currently has an exhibition:

A review of a movie I want to see by someone whose opinion I trust:
I am just back from seeing “His Darkest Hour”,
Winston Churchill in 1940…when all seemed lost.
I don’t know why I cry when I see movies like this,
I think it really grips me when people have something to feel passionate about,
There are causes worth dying for….
As in “Dunkirk”, we see the goodness of ordinary people in England,
We see that we find courage with others,
A lonely king finds his courage by admiring Winston,
And just thinking about his people,
Winston takes courage from his king, his beautiful wife and a lowly secretary…
How can one see this without thinking about Donald Trump,
A man who also has a deep link with the people?
This film lingers in interesting ways:
There are long shots of the man thinking and worrying…
It’s a relief from all the fast paced dramas out there.
This movie is lovingly slow.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
