My daughter and SIL brought me some coffee as a hostess gift last week. It is excellent coffee, roasted in Warrenville, IL by Two Brothers Coffee Roasters. They are also brewers. The one they brought is a medium roast, Kenya Nyeri Kiama Kiangundo. Very expensive also, so I won’t be purchasing on a regular basis, for sure.

I see they have more reasonably priced offerings, so I may try one of those.

Yes haw! Allan Dershowitz kicks Mueller’s witch hunt down his throat and out his derrière.

Dershowitz is almost giddy with laughter and contempt for Mueller, he’s salivating at a chance to cross examine a witness whose sole crime is lying about something that was illegal. Mueller through this charge has impugned his star witness. Stupid Mueller go to bed.

We the American people want our money back for this farce and for all the pervert payouts and cow fart testing and global warming initiatives and…….

    Morning Stella, Stellars,
Gorgeous photo once again, thank you. Although no real desire to go to Italy, this has swayed my opinion and would love to see in person.
Drove across Bay Bridge last night, where a driver had smashed through a tool booth in a semi killing the poor worker there. What a way to go, NOT!
But evidentially, driver is arrested on manslaughter. Hmmm. Driving a truck wrecklessly will put you in jail but not firing a gun in same manner. Go figure.
My mother was finally moved to a rehab facility from the hospital she’s been in for almost three weeks now, radiation may be next step, but things don’t look good. Some tougher decisions coming up.
Breakfast with my son this morning, golf with the SIL and a brother, then a Holiday Faire with my daughter and her trailer this afternoon before heading back up via mom. Hopefully catch the supermoon rising, maybe as we drive back across the bridge.

    Have a great day y’all!

Derk – you’re walking a hard path that you did not choose. One of the things that makes it hard is that when a family member is involved we desperately want to make that “right decision” that we know we will be living with going forward.

There are no perfect decisions on the part of humans in such hard places. The decision-making will flow out of the best information available to you. Out of hearts full of aching love and longing. and awareness of our limits. (The rest of this comment just illustrates my point – please take these two paragraphs as a stand alone verbal hug for you and your family. You will do the best you can with the information you have – and it will be enough.)

Four days before my mother died in 1995, I got a frantic call from the admitting area of the hospital emergency room adjacent to the nursing home where she had lived in sinking years that included dementia and an aortic aneurysm that had been “ready to go” for years. This night – two things were on the table: she was simply dying, all systems giving up (she was 93) AND – I, being the youngest of seven adult children and having no official documented role in medical decisions, was the first and only one of us that the nursing staff could reach that night.

They were calling me to tell me that they were admitting her. I KNEW that her DNR had been on file for years, so my question was “WHY”? All I could think of was those old brittle bones breaking under the resuscitation efforts that would likely be part and parcel that night……when I understood that there was no “medical event” that could be reverse, I just said, “No. You must not admit her. Take her back to her room and her own bed.”

The problem was this: THE NURSING HOME HAD MISPLACED THE DNR PAPERWORK!! If they had been “able to find it” they would never have been calling me at all – or any of us. When I understood that, I begged and insisted, “NO! You cannot do this to her.” As I frantically tried to think how to persuade them, being 500 miles away, I thought of my cousin who was in her ’60s at this point, had lifelong professional status as “the county nurse” there in eastern Montana, and who had provided much of Mom’s personal care during her last years because none of us 7 kids lived closer than me. And I said – – – ‘You know Gloria K -??? You do???? Call Gloria K and she will confirm to you that the DNR was/is real, and that you must NOT admit her for the reasons you describe.”

Thank God they acceded to my request. They called dear cousin Gloria. Thank God they knew very well of her and her sterling reputation… That was Saturday night. My mother died on Tuesday night.

The next morning, I sat down at the piano and sang, “I will meet you in the morning —” and sang, sobbing, with tears running down my face. I was just about to turn fifty and felt the feelings of an orphan child. An orphan child with faith.

Faith does not make the journey unnecessary. It makes it possible.

God bless you and hold you, Derk. Your mother is in the best of loving hands at every point.

Is there a transcript of exactly what General Flynn said to the F.B.I.? I believe when you are being interviewed, you have to answer from memory, not from volumes of notes you can take into the meeting, though I may be wrong on that. I know Scooter Libby wasn’t allowed to bring notes with him.

And did the same memory scenario happen when the General spoke with Mike Pence?

At any rate, we all know that a plan to overtly lie to a grand jury, the F.B.I. or any investigatory entity is verboten. And I just think he would not do that. As has been said, he copped a plea to lying because the other minor offense would be more costly, both in cash and in time served if he were convicted.

He didn’t give away state secrets, offer bribes, take bribes, use monies illegally, or spit in the coffee. Too bad everyone who has done the same type of process crime AND MUCH, MUCH WORSE, isn’t right now being prosecuted. I’m not excusing these types of crimes, but simply asking for equal treatment under the law.

Looking for input. These two things have come up on fb with one of the posters I know personally. Where or how do I start breaking these things apart? On the picture I know I can blow it out of the water IF the 25,000 is their only income because after the deduction (whether filing single or filing married jointly, the end result will be still not paying any taxes. But if added to a paycheck wage/s of 75K, then maybe they are right — but doubt it, gut instinct says so even if by a “tax preparer”. But “gut” not really a response. (Either is “What a jerk, you have not even read the damn bill, have you?”

Picture of self-proclaimed tax expert (the author made it a public post so can see even if not a facebook holder): https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fphoto.php%3Ffbid%3D1778442012190683%26set%3Da.373052609396304.92392.100000747054104%26type%3D3&width=500

The other statement: “Expenses for small businesses will no longer be tax deductible. I am making the decision to end my small business as a special education consultant as a result of this change. My clients, parents and school districts, cannot afford to pay more to cover the expenses. So tell me again how small businesses are being helped…”

I have read all I can find and half I really don’t get and the the rest, I do not know if fact or fiction. And I so, so, so want to explain that the aboves are wrong, wrong, wrong. . . . . . . . My understanding was that itemized deductions are gone but other things balance that so most will come out ahead. But itemizing, or taking on deductions for business expenses on Schedule C IS NOT itemizing, as in the 1040 Schedule A. Is this where the confusion (orchestrated, made-up scare info to the dem soldiers ready to prove everything Trump wrong) is, you think? I need help articulating concisely a response. Thank you !!!!!!!!!!

I would first say that the final bill is not complete, and the Senate bill is very different from the House bill. This means that many things have already changed in the past couple of days and will continue to do so. Here is a summary I read yesterday in an exchange on FB with somebody who had MANY facts wrong!

First of all, the standard deduction is nearly doubled – $24,000 for a couple, up from $12,700, and similar for singles.

The Senate bill allows owners of so-called “pass-through” businesses (that is, businesses that aren’t incorporated) to deduct 23 percent of their earnings, and then pay at their personal income tax rate on the remainder. This issue was a key concern of Sens. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., and Steve Daines, R-Mont., both of whom announced this week that they would support the bill.

Thank you, Stella! So, now all I can reconcile is the person I quoted saying she was going to quit her virtuous job is she was itemizing as an employee paying expenses related to the job. Doing thus, makes her an employee and not a small business, even if she does call them “clients”. OR, she thinks the 23% reduction in business income is a replacement for not being able to take and business deductions. This is really, really a stupid line of thinking because —
Revenue generated – cost of goods and services to produce those revenues(expenses) = profit which is entered as income on 1040. There is NO business if ‘cost of goods and services” is not taken into consideration for a profit or loss. There must be an equation.

Is the new equation – Revenue generated – cost of goods and services = profit – 23% of profit = income entered on 1040 as business income. The new way mean less monies paid for self-employment tax.

Do you think I have this correct or are small businesses really going to be taxed. on revenue generated only and not on profit, which is the definition of income????? It makes no sense.

Feminism, the Fake Indian, the Tragic State of the FBI, and the Flynn Flam

    http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2017/12/feminism_the_fake_indian_the_tragic_state_of_the_fbi_and_the_flynn_flam.html

A website called Medusa shut down after it was clear that it was impossible to continue to satirize the present-day feminists because they are so idiotic that parody too closely mirrors the neo-feminists’ views:

Much tongue clucking was heard over the President’s reference to Elizabeth Warren as “Pocahontas,” an allusion to her phony claim to Indian heritage. But to my mind, it was apt and called for. She’s a liar, like many on the left, and a hypocrite as well, supporting “diversity” and affirmative action programs while lying to take advantage of them at cost to those who might qualify. In May of 2012 — forgotten by most of the media or brushed under the rug — Warren admitted that she had told the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Law school about her purported Indian heritage before she was hired. Harvard promoted her as the first “woman of color” on their faculty,

The FBI lied to the court and Judicial Watch saying it had no discoverable documents of the June 27, 2016 tarmac meeting between then-attorney general Lynch and Bill Clinton while Hillary Clinton’s misuse of classified emails was under investigation. In a related case, it was disclosed the Bureau, in fact, had 29 such pages and they were turned over to Judicial Watch. What they revealed was that the FBI’s concern was not over the impropriety of the meeting but, rather finding and punishing the whistleblower who revealed the meeting.

This week Trump’s short-lived National Security Advisor pled guilty to lying to the FBI. (In other words lying to liars) and the press went wild, crazily speculating that the end for their nemesis — the President — was nigh. As is his wont, Tom Maguire gave the best short form refutation of their hyperventilating:

    Out Like Flynn

I understand this is a plea deal and we are meant to believe Flynn is being let off easy in exchange for vital evidence that blows the lid off Trump’s collusion with the Russians, but…

given Flynn’s other seemingly more serious legal challenges around the unregistered lobbying, busting him for something we already knew about does not seem like an investigative breakthrough.[snip]

It looks like a new, albeit imperfect but still good tax bill will be passed after reconciliation of the House and Senate versions and I expect it will substantially boost the economy. And the administration seems to be making successful moves to reduce the administrative state — a state not elected by anyone that has weaseled its way into every aspect of our lives. The Awan case, which looks like a potentially major case of Pakistani espionage into the workings of House Democrats, will not be stalled forever.

    and much more!
