Hey Col, Ken, wanna share some yummy field ration Thanksgiving meals of the past to make Nyet feel a bit less put out? Yummmm…LRP rations on turkey day…a meal that stayed with you. For days. Canned C-ration chicken that some caring and inventive cook had crossed out ‘chicken’ on the can and lettered ‘turkey’ with a Magic Market…gently warmed in the same trash can full of water heated by an immersion heater that reeked of unburned fuel…the same can you, and 50 other people, would bring their mess gear over to when you were done eating.
Ah yes, Turkey Day in uniform….

    • Not to be pedantic, but, “If I don’t love myself because of the stuff I know about myself, how can God love me if He knows everything about me?” needs an edit.

“If I don’t love myself DESPITE the stuff I know about myself…”

      Regardless… heard, and seconded.

  13. Former bossman called me an hour ago, invited me over to his yearly dinner, at either his or his dad’s house. I said, “hold on a second, I’ll be down”, because they were at the restaurant, making turkey stuffing, he and his dad.

I was there in about a minute, and talked with them for a while, as they worked.

I declined, said I had other plans with other people. I don’t.

I knew he would call me today, and I told him that. He smiled bigly. So thankful for this man.

Many of you know he was not the model bossman, nor was I the model employee, but he is blessed, and a blessing, still. I had to leave his employ after 9 years, but I love the guy greatly. Most days, when he pulls up, we chat about business and life, and I help him unload his truck. Now he doesn’t even have to pay me.

I’ve spent 8 of the last ten Thanksgiving dinners at his house, or his dad’s, or his brother’s.

Today I’m looking at an empty parking lot, and thankful for all these years I’ve been given, and all these people. So many blessings, all these people.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

And, Lord, we pray for all the people who have been affected by the earthquakes and hurricanes.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

The bad thing about Thanksgiving is I have no willpower and always think there is room for that slice of pie. Then I spend the next several hours wishing I had not eaten that slice of pie and then at dinner time I do it all over again. 🙂

before I ate, I took my weight on the scales, and had reached my absolute weight loss goal. Then dinner happened.
I am so stuffed….three helpings of triffle, two slices of pie with whipped cream…wonderful food all around, everyone had a great dinner, and then we played games with stuff like “Say Anything” followed by Chicken foot with dominoes….and everyone had a great time and laughed and ate like crazy….my kids are finally adults….and my wife and I are more like kids. Tomorrow is my 76 Birthday…so every Thanksgiving and Christmas spent with family is precious. Before dinner and after the blessing, I had the video of Dennis Prager presentation to the “Key to Unhappiness”….and everyone agreed that “Gratitude as the source of happiness was a new perspective and it did not get shot down as all preachy…

No discussion of politics, and no deep philosophy or religious discussion…but lots of living and thriving together talk…and deep gratitude that our nation seems headed to a better place now.

It was a great Thanksgiving….and I am so glad to have met and been part of Stella’s Place with all the wonderful friends and “family” that share together here.

      Bless you all.

I went with a friend and a friend of hers to Bob Evans Rest. yesterday. The plate was piled so high that I ate about a third of it and brought the rest home. The big styrofoam container was almost completely full. I think it will make at least 2 more meals. I had the pie for dinner last night……..just pie.

I used a valencia orange for juice, raw sugar and a whole zested orange peel for a 12-ounce bag-o-berries. I may still use the stuff in a can for certain things that require a milder taste but that homemade just can’t be be beat – and it’s so easy.

I always make homemade, and usually use orange juice, although I have also used pomegranate juice. I reduced the sugar from a cup to 3/4 cup, about.

The homemade is always better, and accounts for the fact that my grandsons love it.

I made the fennel/radish/apple/orange salad with a creamy dressing (sour cream, mayo and honey). It was a hit as well.

Speaking of fennel, I was supposed to put the Italian sausage in the dressing but forgot to…that’s about Czarina’s limit on liquorice taste.
I just love juice orange juice, fresh. Those bland California navels that are fast becoming the red delicious apple of the orange world just don’t cut it. Gonna try it with satsumas for Christmas.

The Florida navels are much better tasting – juicier and sweeter – but they don’t look as nice, which is fine with me. Grapefruit too.

I sneakily pinch the skin to get a smell of the oil…the inside should taste like the outside as far as strength goes. I just find juice oranges have a better flavor than navels but I work with what I got.

Dressing? I found a satsuma rum that I’m thinking of using but I gotta stop hitting the stuff each time I grab it.
I like to do a tilapia poached in OJ with a fresh tropical fruit mix added just at the end and tossed. I like it as it’s tasteless (if it’s raised correctly) and works great with different preps.

Cook with it, drink it, I’d probably bathe wit it if it weren’t so expensive – and there are so many flavors now. Our old bar in NOLA used to make a drink aptly titled: ‘where the **** am I?’. It was a 32oz cup with some ice, a whooooole lotta rums and enough fruit juice concentrate to make it taste less like aviation gas. One of those and there was no question in your mind why there was underwear stapled all over the bar’s ceiling.
